Delicious made to order ice cream treat. I forgot to take a photo of my order because I was so excited to try it. I opted for the non-dairy ice cream made with coconut milk and had a banana chopped up in inside and topped with crunchy toasted coconut flakes. They ran out of almonds but the crunch from the toasted coconut flakes added texture. The price was about $10 a cup BUT it is hand mixed and rolled so each cup is specialized. The staff was nice and friendly. They seemed to enjoy work together even with the heat. It was a hot day and there was no a/c! They could have used a few more benches outside to enjoy the ice cream.I’d go back when I’m in the area. Support small businesses!
I love the texture of the ice cream rolls. I know its the same sorbet whether rolled or scooped, but the texture is really smooth and less heavy than I am used to which is nice.
They have fun flavors with unlimited toppings. I got the Thai and green tea combo. Ive had rolled ice cream before but they get theirs really cold so it doesnt melt as fast.
You know when there is a line, there is interest! So we had that line and that interest! LOL.After seeing the menu, there were some flavors that I would definitely come back and try for.------------------------------------------------There is a line and it doesnt move as fast as other places, IJS.Price is kinda high.Service isnt instantly fast, so be patient.Staff is friendly.I had to get the Mint Oreo deal... damn it was good. But I definitely want to try Fruitroll or PB&J, Ube...Quite a few flavors really.
Great place to get fresh ice cream. Plus free toppings. Lots of choices.
Such great tasting ice cream! It is in downtown San Mateo next to alot of other good restaurants and nearby a movie theater. The location itself is kind of small and gets very hot even when it’s cold outside. There’s a bench right outside the restaurant but other than that, you pretty much have to take your ice cream to go. It gets hectic, but I deem it to be worth the wait. My go to is a Cereal Killer with Captain Crunch cereal (honorable mention to the Nutella and Chill) The ice cream is delicious and so are all the toppings! Get yourself a roasted marshmallow!
Let me start off by saying that the ice cream is phenomenal. It had a super creamy and smooth texture to it. The flavors come out truthfully to the ingredients and most of them are harmonious. One of my favorite is the base vanilla custard with coconut and blended with bananas and chocolate drizzle, it is heavnely. Now why the 2 stars... well it took us 45 mins to get the ice cream. Yes, the place is popular and we went there on a hot summer evening after dinner. But shouldnt they warn you how long it might take? Or at least give you a heads up so that you can go somewhere else and return. I had 2 toddlers with me waiting in front of the rollers without a chair for the entire wait at which point we were almost ready to give up.So message to the store: just give your customers a heads up and set expectations right.
The ice cream is good and the service is also good
I had always wanted to try this place for its unique ice cream rolls. But frankly they were not what I expected. Also at the time of our visit the wait was very long. It was clear the place was popular but frankly didnt like the ice cream rolls much.
Amazing, perfect ice cream!
Enjoyed the experience with good Icecream and friendly staff
Delicious ice cream!
Great little spot downtown to to grab some ice cream. Order ahead by calling, with current state of this pandemic, they’ll bring you your treat. Plenty of space to social distance and eat your icicles. You can have a ton of toppings, or keep it basic like me, vanilla and Cap’n Crunch. Delicious as always.
They are still open in this pandemic!!! Love the ice cream here. Strawberry Fantasy is very yummy.
Its fun to watch your ice cream appear before your eyes. When I first walked in and saw what was happening it reminded me of cold stone, not a fan so happy I was wrong. While you see and hear employees scraping and items being placed on a cold surface its nothing like just items being folded into ice cream, its you ice cream being made how u want it. Too hard to explain how its done and how it looks when made but my little niece talked us into going saying they make straws out of your ice cream. In a way thats true. It is so creamy and tasty. It says custard base. Being from the East what I miss is custard ice cream not available out here. Well this has that creamy texture and the flavor was great. Im on a limited budget so I havent been able to get back but Im hoping soon. Its worth the cost. Went on a SAT evening, very crowded but the staff friendly and fast. Im craving it now just thinking about it
Overpriced subpar ice cream. As we ordered and paid, the cashier saw familiar people come visit her. The people had a dog and im all for animals but not around my food when it comes to cleanliness. She proceeded to play with the dog and sit with these people right in front of the store. One person the cashier was with did NOT HAVE A MASK and she didnt say anything to this unmasked person being in her eating area, but continued to condone it and talk to this person. When our ice cream was ready she went inside and we clearly saw her WASH HER GLOVES instead of switch them out. How disgusting. The overpriced subpar ice cream with possible dog hairs and germs from all days worth of rewashing the same gloves was not worth my time or money. Will never come back here again.
Ice cream was good, not great enough to justify the hefty price tag. Its all one size and basically mine came out to $10. What made it worse is I was coming from an unhappy situation and the kids behind the counter were rude AF. 2 model looking boys. Customer service is officially dead. First kid rolled his eyes at me and the other one is glaring at me asking me a question but I cant hear because the music was so loud. Probably wont be back for another 30 years but it was good. A better attitude on the workers and a bit of a sweeter strawberry wouldve made it great. I even tipped the lil boogers. Ugh.
Icicles has the most unique way of preparing your delicious ice cream dessert. It is a fun show to watch them make the ice cream. For a reasonable price you get a large cup of freshly made ice cream with as many toppings as you desire. I look forward to my return visit.
My first time watching ice cream being made from scratch in front of my eyes. It was amazing. It tasted great too. If you are ever in San Mateo, California its a must have.
Must try! Loved the fruit combination!
Strawberry Fantasy will always be my go to when going here. It consists of strawberries, graham crackers, and condensed milk. Prices go for 8.99, which for me is worth it (experience, unlimited toppings and all). It’s cool seeing them roll the ice cream. Would definitely come back to try their non-dairy selection!
This is a fun and yummy place to stop for a dessert. I really enjoy watching them make my selection of ice cream- Ive tried one from the dairy menu and one from the non-dairy menu too. My favorite was the non-dairy selections. Each selection goes for $8.75 but it is big enough for two people, the Unlimited toppings are included. Make sure to try their roasted marshmallow with your ice cream. Be ready to wait in line for a while on a nice hot day, it can get crowded.
Creamy, and icy delight! Fun to watch your order being prepared right in front of you. Lots of options and toppings for you to select from. Theres always a line since your icicle is prepared fresh to order! An experience to watch, then eat! Youll never know Whats it like, without actually being there!
Have you ever discovered something you didnt know you could ever want and cant believe youve never thought of having before? This fantastic idea for the preparation and dissemination of creamy goodness blew my mind. Its like a reverse hibachi grill, where they freeze your food in front of your eyes! Capitalism, cuisine, and art all in one place.
The rolled ice cream is actually really good here. They make it right in front of you and you can pretty much customize however you want. They also have a nice selection of toppings to put on after the ice cream is ready. The reason I knocked off one star is because of the price. I cant say with 100% certainty, but Im fairly sure they raised the prices since the last time I went in there. It is about $9 for an ice cream bowl. It is really good, but not worth $9 in my opinion.
A bit pricey at $8.99, but the ice cream is in fact quite delicious. I got the cookies + cream, added M&M toppings and oreos, and it was absolutely delicious. The art of creating this thin ice cream is quite fascinating, but it does melt quickly and clumps together into normal ice cream.Overall, its a fun experience for the family. It was nothing super special compared to other ice cream shops, but I would go here again.
The best ice cream Ive ever had in my life! Compliments to the creators of this spot. As well as to the dedicated employees.
Tasty, freshly made ice cream. The staff takes your ingredients, add some cream, chops them up on a frozen plate and makes delicious frozen ice cream treats. It is really cool to see the staff prepare your dessert.Theres a big choice of ingredients, and unlimited toppings. My tastes are simple: just avocado.
A great take on Thai rolled ice cream. Tons of tasty options and combinations and its really cool to see them make it. Love the cereal killer and oreo blast!
A really small and cozy ice cream shop. The ice cream tastes great and with unlimited toppings it tastes even better. However, I think the price is a little too expensive. Right now its $8.50, and with that kind of money you can buy a meal instead. Its a good place for people who love ice cream, but if youre looking for a quick bite then you should try the other ice cream shops in downtown.
Tasty ice-creams. They make it with such perfection that its worth captivating.Enjoy the Amazing flavours of icicles.
Great spin on a classic! Whether its something fruity or decadent, its always delicious. Plus you get to watch them make it, like Benihana but with ice cream and they wont throw food in my mouth, still awesome though
Bad costumer experience with my order, bad actitud both guys, peopel in store need to improve costumer interaction, request information, make suggestions and be patience with new costumer, probably I never will came back to this store.
I wasnt sure at first about how good custom Ive cream would taste like. Clearly I was wrong because the choices here are amazing. Absolutely recommend trying it at least once.
No words! If you are an ice cream afficianado, this place was made for you!So good! Made to order, perfect custard, not too sweet, and its cold! A little pricey at $8.50 a serving but its a lot and is good for two (unless youre feeling greedy)!
I dont know if the ice cream is worth the wait. I came on a Fri night and there were maybe 10 people in front of me. I paid and then realized that I would have to wait for all those people to get there. Too late to turn back :/
A unique dessert were they flash freeze the cream and toppings together in front of you. Very popular with the locals, and there is always a line. We waited half an hour. It is tasty, but more if a special experience than amazing flavors. The names of the dishes on the menu are jokes, puns, and references, even going as far as drug and sex jokes hidden to be PG (Yay for coca).
After waiting 30 minutes (!) in line and paying $9+tip, I got a very bland mango icicle that gave me a tummy ache for one hour after eating it. It seems that the dairy flavors are far better, but if you are refraining from dairy, then refrain from coming here.
Extremely pricey ice cream even with unlimited toppings - $7.75 (excl tip) for five rolls. When it was put into the cup, everything melted into a normal scoop anyway. I got butterface which was vanilla ice cream with Graham crackers... Pretty basic. Overall, for the price I wouldnt go back. The staff are friendly though!
Too sweet and very little toppings for the price paid.
Its really cool to watch them make the ice cream and it tastes even better. There are some really cool flavors too so it doesnt seem like your cookie cutter parlor.
AMAZING!!! Best Ice Cream ever. I went there for my half birthday with a couple of friends, and they LOVED it. Its amazing, I would totally recommend it
Pretty interesting concept, they basically make the ice cream fresh in front of you. I tried a few flavors, found them hit or miss. A little too on the higher side of expensive but a good experience. Strawberry fantasy is my favorite so far.
Fun experience!No.9-matcha + strawberry is greatEverything is under $9, including all toppings.Such a good deal
This is probably the most popular ice cream store in San Mateo. Theres always a line in the evenings. I just cant get bored watching the staff here rolling up icicles.
It wasn’t as busy as I’ve seen it before. There wasn’t a designated person on the register the whole time. So, waiting to order was lengthy. Everything else was great!!
Tasty but pricey
The best place if you are looking for good, fresh and handmade ice cream
Busy place for Monday. Allow 45 minutes if theres already a line. Hard working servers. You get all the toppings that you want after they make your ice cream.
First time Ive had this, Ill definitely be back. Yummy
If you have 45 minutes to wait for one expensive ice cream its the best place .
I have enjoyed their offerings on a few occasions, the texture more so then the icicles/toppings is unique. Their high prices however is hardly justifiable.
First time trying these ice cream, felt in love with it .
I got the Ferrarii Flavor topped with strawberries, bananas & white chocolate drizzle. Definitely recommend if you love Nutella. They lost a star because it was extremely hot inside while waiting for them to make it. Also, it was taking a really long time for them to make it.
Trendy rolled ice cream. Flavors are mostly from the Asian palette. Fun for kids (i.e. 5 - 10 years old) to see ice cream made by teenagers with forearms like gods (!). A little pricey to be more than a special treat. Awkward customer flow (i.e. only one door and often crowded).
Absolutely try out the Berry Squad. Pair it up with fresh strawberry and blueberry toppings. Delish!
Freshly made ice cream at $8.99 per box. The kids liked it.
Icicles is a cross between Cold Stone Creamery and Creamistry. Like Creamistry they start with an ice cream base with a few mix-ins but instead of liquid nitrogen they use a cold plate where your ice cream is spread out, and then scraped off into curls. The unlimited toppings @ the end dont just refer to the location of the toppings list, but that said toppings are requested and applied after your ice cream is prepared and put into the cup. Its a fun experience and worth doing once, but at more than $8, even the unlimited toppings cant really make up for the cost.
Great place for rolled ice cream. The servers are nice and they have lot of options to choose from
Good ice cream but inexperienced staff and poor customer service. Philz coffee is an example of a place that has long waits and great customer experience. Icicles is long lines due to poor customer service.
Awesome spot to chill for a bit and have some ice cream rolls... Haha. Their music is on point too!
New way to prep and eat ice cream. Very good. Lots of toppings $8.25. Including everything.
Very delicious! I like Ferrari the best.
It was cool to watch the ice cream getting made, but it seems more like a novelty than your go-to ice cream place.
Its a very good joint. Good variety, friendly service.
Long line and I agreed with worth the wait 85%:-)
Good collection.. and no extra charge for toppings 😊
The ice cream is delicious and so rich and creamy. The kids love watching it being rolled but its so big, its enough for two adults to share.
This treat is awsome alittle pricey but its sooooo good
Taste good but little bit pricey
Great ice cream, made fresh to order but no peanuts.
Ice cream made fresh in front of your eyes! They use nitrogen to keep the metal plates at very low temps and they mix the cream and toppings on top, resulting in a quick freeze. This style of freezing the ice cream results in really small ice crystals, so the texture is super smooth and creamy. My favorite is the matcha and Thai ice tea flavor, with a little condensed milk and mochi on top. Their bravacado is surprisingly refreshing too, made with fresh avocados! The one downside is you have to wait since each order is made to order, and there’s always a wait no matter what time of the day you go. I had my first ice cream roll in NYC a few years ago, really nice to see this dessert gaining popularity in the Bay.
Vast selection and friendly staff. They make your order in less than 10 minutes.
Today is a Friday around 3pm and about 7 people ahead of me it seemed like it took forever. They were very stingy on the chocolate sauce so my rocky road was not very chocolately. They use one cup to get the cream from their container for each customer. They didn’t wash it out they keep using the same cup for different customers. I didn’t like that! Not better than Baskin Robbin’s.
Long waits and over rated. Its expensive because its labor intensive nothing else. Good to try once though.
Only public restroom Ive ever used with more than single ply TP
Fantastic place to take the kids for ice cream, they have plenty of delicious toppings.
Rolled ice cream with fad-ish toppings and add-ins. Good flavor and price for how much they give you.
Great place to just watch the delicious icicles being rolled by workers. Theres a rather long wait but the results are DELICIOUS & definitely worth the wsit.
One of the best ice creams I have had so far
Good concept but the Rock & Roll ice cream was ok not amazing.
Amazing ice cream. You can watch them making it, and its pretty impressive.
Really novel concept and fun to watch your ice cream being freshly made for you. However, the ice cream itself is only mediocre, at a very high cost that youre paying for to get the novelty of the experience, not the quality of the ice cream.
