No one offered me help on the sales floor. And the staff was ok at the register, but asked me nothing... Did I find what I was looking for? Did I want to join the club?Other than that the bookstore is very very nice. Great selection.

Best bookshop ever! This is a Santa Cruz institution! My grandson adores this bookstore, just as I do. Everyone is so helpful. There is a great selection of books even in this time of Amazon. I hope that as a community we will always support this bookshop. I dont know about you, but I like actually feeling the pages in my hands and reading the words on paper.

I have a dear friend who had a birthday coming up and I wanted to give him a special book. I went online and found that the bookshop in Santa Cruz had the book. I was thrilled and went online to order it. The process was super easy and I went down to pick up the book before the employees had processed it because I needed to get it in time for the party. The staff at the bookshop was super helpful, pulled the book from the shelf, and got it to me so that I could present it to my dear friend. I love this bookstore.

Moving to a new city is always a challenge, never mind during a global pandemic when finding new connections is impossible. Bookshop Santa Cruz has been a salve over the last year. Their recommended reading lists and helpful staff have allowed me to both stick to my reading goals and expand my literary horizons. I cant wait until things are back to normal and I can go to events at this incredible space.

Such a blessing to know Bookshop SC is still in business.. I haven’t been to Santa Cruz in many years, but just thinking about the 80’s & 90’s, and recollections of good times in my life brought Bookshop to mind.. This review is honestly more appreciation based on memory, and celebrating that they are still in business, and continuing their legacy..

I walk in here planning to buy one or two books, and walk out with a bag full of books. I always enjoy the events that Bookshop Santa Cruz put on--book signings, books & brews, the wheres waldo hunt, and many may more fun things for adults and children alike. This place is a magical place for those who enjoy books.

This iconic Santa Cruz establishment has certainly gone down hill in the customer service area. Beware of bringing used books in. They give you less than a dollar for almost new hardbacks. They should beware of Amazon!

Cant go to Santa Cruz without going to Bookshop Santa Cruz. The staff is so helpful and they will help you find anything you are looking for. They seem to have every book I have ever needed and lots of unique gifts and souvenirs. The Bookshop hosts a variety of events, such as author talks and book signings. Right in the middle of downtown so grab a parking spot and you can walk to lots of shops. Also worth noting that they have public restrooms because it can be difficult to locate one in this area.

I needed 10 copies of the Santa Cruz Sentinel on a Sunday and they were able to set them aside for me when I called at 1pm which was super lucky. I appreciated their accommodating my need which was related to an obituary in there. Thank you!

A good place to browse. Too crowded and clustered for me, but they have a wonderful selection of local and popular artist. Can definitely find your vibe here if you have enough money in the meters

Best book shop on the planet. One of the few remaining big, brick-and-mortar bookshops. One-hundred-percent covid-19 safety compliant, and determined to stay that way. They actually have a person watching the door to make sure everyone that enters sanitize their hands and does not consume food or beverages inside the store.

So I was just in there and I’m checking out the journals and pins and what not. So I call my girlfriend who was in another store where she bought a book and a candle. And the Mr. tough guy profiling me the whole time. He stops us and says excuse me you need to pay for that book and candle and she said I just bought this next store and he said show me the receipt. Which she had but it didn’t say the price to the specific item so he asked if he could scan the precious book to see if it was in their system and snatched it out of my girls hands and I said your Finns feel so dumb after this lol he says “am I?” I told him you’ll see he walks over and scans it and the. Comes back over saying don’t come back to this store again and I gladly won’t hahaha he wouldn’t tell us his name.

Great local bookstore carrying much more than works of literature. They stock a robust selection of UCSC clothing and swag. Even a fair number of toys, games and works from local artisans. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

My friend and I were visiting Santa Cruz from out of town. For some reason I was setting off the door alarms at almost every store. To the point where we were actually warning workers before entering or leaving stores. Every store was really understanding and nice which was a relief considering how embarrassing it was. Not this store however.. upon leaving or trying to, I again set the alarm off. my friend and I were chased down by an older gentleman who I am assuming was the manager. I was asked to remove everything from my pockets and strip down to just my Jeans while being told to walk through the door alarms multiple times until it produced a non alarming result. The whole time he was extremely rude and arrogant. Saying something along the lines of youre not leaving until we find that security tag. After about 10 minutes of harassment I was finally allowed to leave and had to put myself together again at a nearby table. I have had better experiences at the airport. This was extremely uncalled for and highly embarrassing, would not recommend

Love this independent bookstore! Also my daughters favorite store. They have new and used books. In addition they also have a limited selection of graphic novels. Bookshop Santa Cruz has a used book buy back program where they give out store credit for used books. Best in the Santa Cruz region!

Good general bookstore downtown. Im more a used book guy, chiefly my reason for existing, and they didnt have much in that regard. They followed me around like I was a shoplifter...which I enjoyed. I stole a copy of The Book Thief. JK...

Very pricey and very left leaning literature wise, but hey, its Santa Cruz and I expected nothing less. The store itself is laid out in a very common modern way and it is clean and has superb lighting inside. Giving three stars instead of four or five because they dont have a separate section for used books/discounted books. Expect to pay at least 25$ for one book.

A Santa Cruz gem. Enjoyable environment, public restrooms (which is awesome when youre downtown and REALLY gotta go). Live musicians are often playing beautiful music outside. Great selections displayed in a thoughtful manner.

We visited this bookstore downtown Santa Cruz during a 6PM curfew with COVID-19 State requirements in effect and it was all in place. We love these old style of reading choices afar from electronic devices. They had what we needed in stock and was helpful in locating our sourced area for our gift. Thank you!

Dealing with Bookshop Santa Cruz has been the worst experience that I have Ever experienced as far as customer service. My mother in law is a huge reader and we both try to support local businesses. I ordered a gift card on line on November 30 and I still have not received it. I called the store on December 6 after I received an email stating my order was complete and spoke with a lady who refused to give me a tracking number. My last email stated the gift card was not mailed until December 11. Boy do I regret not buying a gift card from Amazon
