Everything you want in a second-hand bookshop: knowledgeable proprietor, awesome selection, and decent prices. The only negative (you might call it a negative, I personally do not) is that aside from a few small sections, they specialize in vintage kids novels. Nancy Drew? She has em all, along with Hardy Boys, Trixie Belden, Tom Swift, Wizard of Oz, Cherry Ames, Bobby Twins, etc. If you collect, this is a great place to fill any gaps in your collection.

Really unique and cute bookstore! My husband and I loved our experience here! The owner was knowledgeable, courteous, and very kind- you can tell he always has the customer’s experience in mind! While checking out, he offered plentiful knowledge about the best places to eat and other antique shops to explore! We had a wonderful experience, we couldn’t recommend this place enough; we will definitely be returning!

This book store is excellent and the customer service was excellent as well. The atmosphere in the book store is great and the layout is user friendly. I also enjoyed the various posters and decorations that made the store that much better. This book store is for collectors. For those people who want cheap, trade books, go to Goodwill. I purchased a nice Sherlock Holmes book here and will be back. Great experience. 😊

Best bookstore ever! A vintage book lovers paradise.

The woman working the front counter, who I believed to be either the owner or GM, was nothing short of incredible. Im honestly not much of a bookie so to speak, but she picked up on my interests and engaged me with the books in a way Ive so very rarely felt in life. Being able to touch history and the valuable collections its imprinted into was nothing short of mezmerizing. I highly recommend anyone take a few moments and pay service to that store. It felt special in a way that could only be described as divine, even holy.

Cute bookstore near the Riverwalk. I bought a biography to read on the way home. I wish there were cats walking around. That would have made my day. Great stop for any booklover.

Very helpful staff and an excellent quiet place to collect thoughts. It is also a trip down memory lane. A portal for some into the age of classic literature. Loved it!

I visited 3 new/used book stores in downtown Savannah today. Books on Bay was my favorite! It was the biggest, most spacious (not crammed with books in every free space), and held an impressive variety of books (mostly old). If you are a book collector I would add this place to your list and check in occasionally to see what new treasures Betsy has to offer.

If you collect original Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Tom Swift and others, then you need to visit this store. I bought a 1910 Tom Swift here. The owner and her son are really nice folks, its worth stopping by just to converse with them.

I went there with my wife who is an avid reader and I can honestly say that it was the best experience I’ve had in a book store before. Jimmy was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They have a wonderful collection of books that you don’t often see at bookstores with more Nancy Drew books than I’ve seen before. (My wife loves Nancy Drew)

On a short vacation I recently took I visited this store and another popular independent book store in Savannah. Both were wonderful and worth the visit, but they each had a very different feel.If you are a fan of not just reading, but books and book stores, Books on Bay will captivate you. Its a small tucked away store in an old building that has a lot of character. The owner was friendly, personable, and very helpful. Most importantly the book selection was something that I am not used to. Its not just a used book store. The books are SO unique and interesting. Old adventure novels and young adult novels from the early 1900s, old printings of the Chronicles of Narnia, The Wizard of Oz, fairy tales and text books. The list of interesting books is endless. You wont find many new novels by current authors in here, but again if you enjoy books in general, this little store might just capture your imagination for a few hours.

The owner was knowledgeable without being pushy and helped us decide between 2 early editions of Kidnapped with NC Wyeths illustrations. Later she really extended herself by chasing us on foot over several blocks of the waterfront, warning that our car might be towed! Turns out ours was parked legally, but we were so impressed by her effort and concern.

Its a little hidden away, but quite delightful. The store itself holds many books, and most of them quite old. Though there was a small section of more contemporary paperbacks and authors I recognized from childhood (such as Carolyn Keene), a majority of them were unfamiliar to me. I didnt lose interest though, as many of them were of great value and undoubtedly considered collectors items (signed books, early editions, that sort of thing). The owner was nice and polite, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. If youre looking for the latest novel to grace the NY Times bestsellers list, you probably wont find it here, but you will find a great selection of novels spanning the last forty to eighty years!

Heavy on the nancy drew and hardy boy books. So great for those fans, but only ok if you have other interests. Found a book on girls scouts. Still nice change of pace from rest of River Street tourist shops.

I love old books. So Books on Bay is my kind of heaven. There is a wide variety of books, and theyre well organized, which makes it so much easier to find a title, an author, or a genre you like. The owner is friendly and helpful. And there are comfy chairs, if you want to spend a little time with a favorite old book that you dont plan to take home.

Quite possibly one of the best bookstores I have ever been to. Betsy was so wonderful while my husband and I shopped in her store. My husband was able to find some vintage Masonic books and I was able to grab up some vintage Cherry Ames books. We could have spent the entire day in there. She gave us some great websites and groups to get involved with to help in our book searches. Any of our future visits to savannah with most definitely include a stop at Books on Bay.
