This place is authentic Tamilnadu style food. I can not say any stand out food I can remember. Byriyani is okay. Do not order for any party, they will give you old remaining stuffs of previous day. I had bad experience personally after ordering for a party. Kothu porata is special dish u get here. You can try that.
I visit this nice place many times a year! This is my favorite place to have a bite. I go to this spot regularly. The cooking is very tasty, the staff members are professional and the charge is good. I enjoy being in this spot to have a rich dinner.
Awesome food.. awesome taste..After a long time, we found an authentic and such a nice restaurant.. really worth your money.. would definitely recommend and come again too 😊😊
I certainly love the food and service, fantastic location right next to my residence. The cashiers are always super friendly. Highly recommended.
Finest food, welcoming staff members, always great atmosphere. They charge fair pricing and the food quality is good. Highly recommended.
Excellent spot to get something when in a rush. The service is fast, pricing is affordable, excellent ambience. I highly recommend this spot.
I absolutely love their food and service, excellent area close to my apartment. The cashiers are always nice. Will visit here again.
Delicious South Indian food with more varieties, used to go more often with family, every time I felt the same taste. I enjoyed the food every time and like it very much. Really appreciated the service!!!
This spot obviously knows how to take care of their clients. Regularly with a very friendly attitude. The food is affordably priced, constantly flavorful and clean.
Went with my South Indian friends and I really enjoyed their food! The place is nice and clean. Great service.
Excellent food for a budget price. Great catering. Every person enjoyed the food with great appreciation. Credit goes to the whole team. A very reliable restaurant with same great taste to fill everyones appetite. Would recommend this to my friends and will order in future. Good job team.
Being Saturday night it was crowded but food was amazing except chapati which were served stiff making it difficult to eat. Also, staff and servers looked bamboozled as it was lot for them to handle weekend rush. So i was not provided with dish and had to wait for 10 minutes and then follow up. Overall decent good experience and food quality is perfect.
Food is great. Not very busy during lunch time. Service us slow.
Lemon rice is bleached. When I gave feed back they say thats how they eat it. And no regrets. Appetizer tastes good
Always awesome food and service! We have been visiting this place for over 17 years - the food and service has been amazing and keep improving every time.
Ive been here multiple times with my wife, and most recently with my family. Always so friendly and the food is always so good. It keeps me coming back. :). Fr
I usually dont like Indian food but this restaurant is amazing and I loved all food I tasted today. Briyani was delicious, mushrooms (I fall in love with them) and chicken (red chili thingy) so good in taste that I think I will always remember. Thank you J for all your effort today - you are amazing chief! See you soon again!
I am not from the area was debating between Bombay chopsticks and this place. I unfortunately went to this one due to lower cost. I got the noodles and hot & sour soup. Both were tasteless. Their service is decent but food leaves a lot to to be desired. They did give me a complimentary Gulab jamun which was very nice of them!
Need to work on their cleanliness more, quality food and tase as well (especially biryanis)
Been coming here for the last 18 years. The owner, when he is around still personally greets the customers and the food is phenomenal. Dinner options are specifically good.
Veg food is really good in here. But I feel like non-veg section are limited varieties. They need to add more on this area. 12.99$ is not a worth for eating only veg items.
Absolutely love their buffet. Authentic Indian dishes. The only place where I enjoy buffet.
Authentic, great tasting food.If you are going for the food, this place is it! If you are expecting atmosphere and ambiance, forget it. You are at the wrong place. This is a hole in the wall, well kept secret kinda place that serves fantastic food - period.Agree with the washroom and small space comment. But if you can look past that, the food is simply superb!
Excellent South Indian food! Banana leaf style serving was awesome. Well organized!
Decent South Indian fare. Some days are better than others. Have tried most of their vegetarian options. I don’t recommend their veg Kurma. Overall decent food.
Excellent food at a descent price. Loved the carrot halwa. Courteous & friendly staff. Average ambiance.
Dakshin in my opinion is the best Indian restaurant in this area. Their Indian and Indo Chinese vegetarian food is of the greatest quality. Most of the indian restaurants cover up for not so great taste by adding toooo much spice or masala. Dakshin does not do that so you have fun eating and your tummy is safe too. The food tastes like back home. Note that I am vegetarian, but they do have food containing chicken, etc. They are also very friendly and attend to your needs very well.
Dakshin’s food is authentic and tasty, speciality in South Indian .They have been serving South Indian food to Chicago land area for several years now, amazed by the consistent quality and exceptional customer service both at restaurant and their catering services. Highly Recommended
Very excellent food. Dosas and vegetable pulao were delicious. Vermicelli with yoghurt was outstandingly delicious.Staff is always friendly and welcoming. Please visit.
I love the food and thanks so much for keeping up the taste and aroma of nativity. I had a great experience and elated by the food I recommend this place.
Today they announced as banana leaf lunch. We went there around 1:20 and gave our name in the queue. Waited till 02 PM and asked them since the tables are free. At that time only they mention some items are getting ready which feels very bad. They should prepare in advance when they are arranging such special arrangements. Finally we have to go to other restaurant for lunch.
This is a great place for dining. Really recommend it. The menu is simple and the food is delicious
Closed! Seems to be shut down? Friday night, prime restaurant time and the sign says We are closed. Can only take that as they are now out of business.
Nice place for a lunch buffet or a relaxed dinner. Good food at affordable prices.
Had been to this place multiple times. Love the taste and consistency. Weekend Buffet gets crowded. Authentic South Indian dishes.
Good South Indian restaurant and very good service, tried special thali meals - worth the money. Waiting to try buffet
Authentic South Indian (Tamil) cuisine. The lunch buffet has a very good spread.
Food tastes great for very reasonable price...Under rated hotel...I came over for dinner and ended up taking Togo for next day lunch as well
The following are the Pros & Cons of Dosa Buffet when compared to Siri Indian Restaurant, West Taylor Street, Chicago near UIC campus.Pros:-1. Ample free car parking2. No waiting time for table3. Price is cheaper by $24. Non veg dosas5. Non veg side dish options.6. Good ambience for elders.7. Special seats for babies/kids.8. A waiter brings the dosa to your table.Cons:-1. Average taste2. Dosa cannot be customized.3. Kitchen is seperate(Siri has the kitchen in front of you, so you can customize the dosas according to your needs).4. Servers dont understand what you say (Siri has local people make the dosa in front of you).Conclusion:- You can choose Dakshin for the ambience if you are visiting with colleagues or babies.Visit Siri(near UIC campus) if you want authentic taste with multiple vegetarian options.
Best South Indian buffet ever!! Love the authentic taste and the wide spread varieties. Also, definitely try out his biryani. The veg biryani is chettinad style and is really tasty.
Nice place for comparably better Indian vegetarian food. They have 4.99 lunch take away at afternoon which really good package.
Tasty, authentic. Many choices of vegetarian and several with meat. Yum.
Good spicy food . I will come back for the buffet on Sunday
Dosa was good. Value for money. Just $11 for the buffet.
Amazing food and it is a simple and beautiful restaurant. Had a great experience so far.
Slow and disjointed service. The soups we ordered had very little substance (more like consume. The lamb(probably goat) curry had bones and bone shards. The parotta was really good though
This place is always a solid choice for food. Every time I have visited, I was never disappointed.
Authentic South Indian cusine. I love their egg/chicken kothu parota and chicken 65. Keep coming here for this particular dish. Would highly recommend to taste kothu parota if you havent .They take little more time to bring in the orders but I never mind though because of the taste.
We went for the Friday evening buffet. They serve dosa as a part of the buffet. The food was excellent except for a little too much salt in the lamb Curry. The atmosphere is typical for a store front, tired and old.
Super fresh Idly & very good paper dhosa. Value for money.
Very good friday dinner buffet.... each and every dish was very good including desserts ... awesome
Dakshin special dosa is the best. Overall taste and service is good
Food is below average! Even though the place looked hygienic and service was fine, my husband and I got diarrhoea the very next day of having dinner from there. Big thumbs down 👎🏻
We tried lunch for the first time. Very decent restaurant with clean interior and booths for quiet conversations. Waiters are polite and friendly, took pictures for us upon request. Didn’t bother asking us too many time but enough to feel attended. Quantity of food is huge compared to regular restaurants. Dum sim from appetizers is a must try. Hakka noodles is awesome taking. Ask for extra vegetables if u r vegetarians (we are). Realized it late vegetable could have improved in quantity. There are many Indian restaurants in this area but this is different if u care for ambience and friendly waiters. I highly recommend trying this place.
My first time trying Dosa. Loved the whole experience.
Good food (not great), very laid back service without smile. Visit if you have godly patience.
I tried their lunch buffet and was really happy. They had good variety overall. I could not even try the main course as appetizers (pakoras and veg cutlet) and masala dosa were so good. The rasam and sambhar were just awesome. Masala tea was also very good. I will definitely go to this place a lot 😀SummaryVariety - very goodTaste - very goodCost - reasonableQuality - very good
Kothu parotta was awesome and good service, kudos
Very good and tasty food, lot of veggie options. People of all ages can enjoy the food, kids, elders, etc.
They have good South Indian food, tomato chutney tasted good. Rasam and sambhar was also flavourful. They had buffet night the day we visited, dosas were crispy and tasted good.Service can be improved upon. We had to wait for a few mins for a server to reorder dosa. The severs didn’t know the items on the buffet.
Excellent food and service. My kids love the Dosa here.
One of the finest south Indian cuisine in West Suburbs of Chicago. Authentic taste and very respectful staffs. Dosas included in every buffets.
Great buffet with an amazing dessert line-up!!
After years of living in U.S. Ive come to realize not many restaurants serve authentic south Indian food .but Dakshin was surprisingly very authentic that proved me wrong. Would eefidefini recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting Schaumburg or driving by do visit this restaurant for a tasty filling and authentic home - style south indian meal. Their aviyal, pongal, sambhar, vadai, dosa and masala chai is top- notch . Definitely looking forward to coming here again.
Food is ok, although not as good as it used to be. Service was bad. Took 45 minutes for my order.
Sooper buffet, if you are a south indian you will like the endless masala dosa that come with the buffet.
Love the food. If you want good Tamil food, this is the place to go.
I ordered dosa and sambar. Sambar was cold and Dosa tasted sour... not sure if I will ever eat there again.
Still the best authentic South Indian restaurant in Chicagoland. Buffets on weekends are a great deal.
Authentic south Indian cuisine. Modest, yet neatly furnished eatery.
Quality of food has gone down, pathetic customer service
Great buffet .. low price and delicious food..:)
An awsome south indian restaurant.. the best thing you will get here is special rava masala dosa.. it’s tasty inside out. And the chatneys accompanied are also tasty. Medu vada is also nice.. uttapam too.. everything is nice. And the coffee is awsome ; everyone should try it. I would highly recommend this restaurant. This was my initial impression... recent visit was opposite to it. So can’t say the same now. We were 4 people on one table., two of us got food immediately they finished there meal then other two got food. Out of which one was rice .. so no idea wt they were doing which took them soo much time for it.
This place is knows for its kotthu parotta ( south indian special) . I have had veg kothu parotta. I always liked it. This time I tried chicken, I would say it came really close to the one we get in Chennai. I recommend this place for kothu parotta specially.
Hi! I was at Dakshin restaurant yesterday and it seems that they have started carryout specials from weekday evenings. Each carry item will have special different items everyday. The veg carryout costs $2.99 and non veg costs $3.99.i had got the non veg which includes idli and chicken curry. It really tastes delicious especially with the affordable price, thus seems too good to be true there are other items which are provided in every other weekdaycarryout special.
Nice food. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices.
Food is really really South Indian...feel good, nice staff, the cashier is so pleasing..overall this place is go good authentic Indian Restaurant
Best South Indian food in Schaumburg. Friendly staff. Love their sambar, pakoda and fried rice.
Food is okay. Seating is like sitting in a school or a community hall
Service was good however food was terrible. Rava dosa and masala dosa is same here 😂. Giving 2 star for good service otherwise it is -1 ⭐️
Did not get actual taste except Rasam
Lot variety, good service and affordable
Its ok restuarant would not go there again....👎
We went on a dosa night and the food was simply amazing. The idli with chicken curry reminded me so much of mangalore. It’s decently priced and dosa is unlimited on Wednesday’s. I would recommend coming here early, my previous experiences were not really great since it was crowded and popular items were depleted.
Having tried all Indian restaurants in schaumburg, I can say that Dakshin is one of the best for south Indian taste.
Good restaurant for tasty and delicious food. Unlimited Dosa night has both veg and non-veg varieties of Dosa, idly, vada and also chicken curry. Love the taste of chicken keema dosa.
Limited variety but the food tastes good
Food was okay. Darshin special dosa was soggy and tasteless and we couldn’t eat it after one bite.
The buffet was overpriced with watered down drinks and jambus. Food was ok, not worth the price
Excellent food. Highly recommend this place.
Tasty food. Tastes like home food. Nice hospitality.
Nice place... very good food.
Only dosas are good. The rest of the buffet is underwhelming. North Indian food is def not there speciality. Inside of restaurant is not attractive with old seating and ugly wall colors.
Pretty good food, not typical Indian fare.
Best Indian food Ive ever had in my life. !!
