I was out on the water last weekend and was admiring my Silverback Marine ORCA 16. After having the pleasure of using it for fishing, water sports and cruising for well over a year, I feel like I have a much better ability to evaluate its capabilities, durability and performance. First of all, it is an incredibly seaworthy design for a 16 boat even when there are four standing and moving around in it. The fabrication/welding and attention to every detail continues to impress the more time I spend on the water with it. In addition to its performance/seaworthiness,I must also tip my hat to Silverback Marine as they continue to reach out and care about their product long after it has left the shop. They show a genuine interest in any user suggestions to improve on the design and/or performance and fortunately for me, I havent been able to come up with any.If you are interested in an extremely well-built custom aluminum boat where the fabricator will care about it long after it leaves their shop, I would highly recommend Silverback Marine.-Eric P.
I have ordered 6 boats for our duck club and have nothing but good things to say about the boats and this company. The customer service and attention to detail has been outstanding. These are strong, dependable and reliable American made boats! I will continue to support this business and their hard working staff!
I have purchased 2 14’ Super Cub aluminum skiffs from Ian and Silverback Marine- used as tender boats for our bigger vessels in remote Alaska. Top notch communication throughout the process to insure that the boat would fit the application we need it for. I appreciated the detail and insight, and its clear the sheer passion those at Silverback have for boat building. Silverback has also performed a few smaller aluminum projects for us with ease and quick turnaround time when it was greatly appreciated. It’s always a pleasure dealing with those at Silverback.
Would not buy another boat from this company nor would I give a recommendation. Bought a Super Cub and it’s not even close to the quality of an actual Woolridge. Boat took way longer to complete than originally quoted. When I finally got the boat it was built to incorrect specifications and had to be heavily modified by a local shop. The boat couldn’t be powder coated again so Silverback instructed the local shop to use spray paint to cover up the modification. The plywood floor was soft and poorly installed. The bow lights werent even close to being even and the holes they cut to install them look like a four year old did the work. They sold me a trailer that’s way too big for the boat. No floatation foam was installed in the boat and the kit they said they included never arrived with the boat. The welds are poor and look like they were shot with a hot glue gun. The boat was full of aluminum shavings from assembly which killed a brand new bilge pump. If you don’t believe anything I’m saying I’ll gladly provide pictures.
This review is in my sole opinion:Zero stars but was not given that choice....Unfortunately, I trusted Silverback Marine and signed a contract 3/3/21 with them to build my dream boat. Sent them $10,000.00 and had to inquire 7 weeks later about where my drawing was because I had not received anything from them at all, as Ian promised. I was given an excuse they were working on them, and he asked for another week and then we would have a virtual meeting on 5/3. The day of the meeting, I was then informed it would not be a virtual meeting because they didn’t have internet set up in the new building and it would be a phone call. They sent be a drawing of the boat that anybody could have just done quickly like you see on their website and Facebook. I was introduced to the navy architect like he was the one working on it the entire time, only to find out by doing some research he had just been hired by them in April. My concern grew even deeper especially the way they were consistently advertising they need help in every field and still are.... We set up another meeting the following Monday on 5/10 and the architect sent me another drawing on my 23’ boat with just only 8 measurement and again no complete drawing/schematics detailing my boat specs as I was promised. I again became concerned after waiting another two weeks after that meeting and had no contact from them. I decided that was enough, so I call Ian informing him I was no longer interested in purchasing a boat from them and would like my deposit back. The managing director of the company whom I had never spoke with before, got on the call and tried to convince me that they had been working on my drawing every single day since 3/3/21. I could tell then, getting most of my deposit back was going to be trouble. Of course, for me to believe that they had been on my project every day for 13 weeks, and that I had only received 8 measurements on a generic drawing, and one of those measurements was the length of my boat was absolutely ludicrous. I asked them to please be fair and they came back with they had worked on my project drawing for 50 hours. They kept $6,000.00 and will be returning $4,000. I received nothing for the $6,000.00, absolutely nothing… and had to except the $4,000 because I was afraid if I argued I would have received nothing at all from them. This is my unfortunate experience with Silverback Marine and they are now $6,000.00 richer!!Also, since writing my review I have received threatening text messages from Ian requesting I remove my nasty review immediately. Speaks volumes!
When our yacht club needed a new work boat built I called and talked with several boat building manufacturers. One stood out from the rest and it was Ian at silverback marine. Ian took the time to draw up several different renditions of work boats for us and incorporated the changes that we wanted to accommodate our specific needs. In the end the work boat he built us exceeded all of our expectations. The powder coat finish not only looks outstanding but it has held up very well to the elements. Ian kept us updated through the entire build process sending pictures and asking for input along the way as per additional modifications that we requested throughout the process. Ian was a pleasure to work with and I would recommend him to anybody wanting a quality built boat!!Ian still checks in with us from time to time to make sure it is still living up to our expectations, which we are happy to say that it is. I am in the process of wanting a new fishing boat and I look forward to working with silverback marine to build it for me!SincerelyBrent S.
On the contrary to the other review I dealt with Ian to produce me a Commando RS with a black arch, looked sick btw.He was VERY personable and honest. Great communication and the smoothest build process in true lean fashion.
