I love maps, and I love this map store. You can find different maps from anywhere, even celestial and nautical maps. This was my second visit here, the first was six years ago when I bought a 1925 Seattle map that still hangs framed in my bedroom. I made sure to support this place again! The employees were friendly and nice to talk to. Really, make sure you stop at this store when youre near the market!
If you love maps, languages, flags, and books, youll be in heaven at Metsker Maps, just outside of Pike Place Market. They also have music- and vexillology-related trivia cards (games, basically). The book selection is pretty awesome. I bought a book on the history of African civilizations. Its map-based, so itll complement my text-heavy ones that I really need visual help with. I also bought The Atlas of Disease as a present (which was much appreciated).I saw a lot of great takes on historical charts and on the world map, but I wonder if they have more variety than they display. (I saw a south-up world map on the wall, but I already have one thats area-accurate [to the extent possible]. I didnt notice any of those projections displayed. (Perhaps someone can correct me.)Anyway... really fun store!
This place rules! Such a breath of fresh air. Has so much cool stuff.
Fabulous, well-curated shop...not just maps, but also educational charts, travel guides, art prints... anything with a sense of place. Lots of cool kids items. Great customer service, as well.
Super cool little spot. Truly a map for anything imaginable.
Fantastic and unique maps and Pacific Northwest stuff sold here. The 3D maps in particular are very interesting. I bought a poster showing the main volcanoes of the Cascade Range, which is now hanging in my room near a May 1980 newspaper reporting the eruption Mount St. Helens.
Staff helped me find an accurate map of Sápmiland -- which was no easy feat. Love this place.
Everyone here is amazing! If you need a map for pretty much anything, they have it! Do not miss this place when you visit pike place! Its definitely a must see if youre here. And its always good to check it out every once and a while if you live here, they always have exciting new things!
Super helpful and knowledgeable. Awesome store. Had my map shipped to my house painlessly.
Great selection of maps of Seattle, Washington state, and all over the globe. This was our favorite specialty shop we visited in Seattle.
When’s the last time you looked at a paper map? Mine was at Metsker Maps. Super random store full of delightful geography related items, like maps, books about maps, flags, globes, etc. Charming specialty store in which to spend a half hour break from all the eating you’ve done in Pike Place Market so far.
If maps are your thing, this store is a must to visit - great variety of maps and all things travel literature
The owners are always friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They have everything plus the most recherché maps or posters you can ever think of.A very quirky place!
Awesome collection of maps of all kinds, and more you never thought existed
I stumbled into this place during a weekend trip to Seattle, and it is heaven! Very cool store! Great for geography nerds or just people who love travel! I purchased a map, and they were able to ship it to me. Everything was super easy, and the employees couldn’t have been more accommodating! 👍 🌏
Whats cooler than a map store?
A place of fun discoveries!
Amazing shop. With so much shopping being online these days it’s not every day you find a store specializing in maps that provides such friendly, knowledgeable and helpful service. They offer lamination for waterproofing printed maps for a very small fee (~$5). They carry not only National Geographic but more up-to-date green trails maps and others for any park or trail in the PNW and beyond. They got you covered for any and all your mapping needs including protective sleeves to keep your maps in good shape while hiking.
I love maps! Since the pandemic, I’ve been ordering hiking maps from Metskers instead of going to REI or Sports Emporium. Getting them shipped within Seattle takes a day or two so it’s super convenient when I’m doing my trip planning during the week. I’ve called them with questions and to double check stock, even ordered a new NW Forest Pass. They are great! Even when the pandemic is over, I’ll still order like this since it saves so much time. It also feels good to support a local, small business.
What a fun and unique shop this was. This store has all the maps that you can think of! People at the front are very helpful and will show you how to look at the maps before buying. They also have a great selection of travel books which fits great into their theme. Theyre located right next to Pikes Market so stop by if youre there.
This is my new favorite store! Great customer service, too.
Amazing shop with every kind of map you can imagine. Friendly and helpful staff. They opened up several maps so we could see them laid out and compare before making a selection.
This shop carries all types of maps, globes, atlases and related items. The staff is knowledgeable and offers insightful advice. They will ship your items practically anywhere and at reasonable rates.Ive shopped here on many occasions and have never been disappointed. Its a Seattle classic. They have childrens items and some touristy kitsch but because of their location near Pike Place Market I guess it cant be avoided.
Absolutely love this place. I visit whenever Im in town.
This is one of my favorite landmarks in the city. They carry maps of all kinds, from geological maps of Washington State to a fantasy map of Middle Earth to maps of the Tree of Life. They also carry books and atlases and globes of all kinds. The historical maps of different cities in the world are wonderful, and theres a book you can order from if they dont have it in stock at the time.It is a little easy to walk by their shop with all the din of Pike Place. I knew about it and still couldnt find their shop. You need to be on the street level outside to find it, but when you do it is a delightful hidden gem
Really neat shop with a great selection and super nice staff! Found some great souvenirs from my trip here.
Metsker Maps is an extraordinary store. Such a warm and helpful vibe. Run by people who love cartography, travel and well organized information. A treasure trove of gifts, books, maps, charts. Great curiosities and tools to inspire younger and older minds.
Very helpful staff. I was able to decide and purchase a large laminated map of the state of Washington and it helped to have a wide variety of maps right there to examine side-by-side. Way better than trying to decide by viewing maps online.
Another Seattle landmark, although sad they moved from pioneer square. Amazing staff, and maps of all kinds for miles. I could spend hours here browsing
I picked up some USGS 7.5 minute maps for a last-minute Mountaineers Navigation class. Theres also travel guides, unique memorabilia, cool poster guides, etc.
Really cool place for all travelers/adventurers. They have maps for places all over the world and lots of detailed maps for nearby hiking trails.
This is our first trip to the Pacific Northwest so I thought a 3d topographical map would be a wonderful souvenir. I came down early in the day and scouted their selection, which is impressive. When my wife was free from her conference I grabbed her and we hurried to the market and arrived just a couple minutes before closing time, relieved to see several customers still shopping in the store and some checking out. When we entered we were rudely and abruptly turned away at the door and told that they were closing in a few minutes and there was no time for us to shop. Very disappointing.
I’ve been coming here for 31 years, and it’s still my favorite store in all of Seattle. My grandfather (who had been frequenting Metsker Maps since 1950, when it opened) introduced me to the shop when I was a kid. I have fond memories of flipping through the vast catalogues of technical sailing charts and mountaineering guides with him, and perusing the travel guide section; dreaming of adventures in the Pacific Northwest and faraway lands. I stop by about once a month to buy a map, book or journal and remember my grandfather. Never disappoints and always inspires :)
Love this place - it has maps. You probably didnt expect that, but it does! From literally everywhere. Or of literally everywhere, I guess. I get confused. The ginger beer, you know.
Incredible store. Im glad its not in my hometown, Id go broke. Good for travelers, map lovers, and generalist nerds. Books, maps, globes and accessories. Im in love.
I always enjoy this store. Such a wonderful selection of travel books.
What a hidden gem!Found some great artistic pieces and historical pieces. The crew really knows there stuff !This is a must visit on any Seattle Trip!!!They didn’t have the size I wanted of a certain map and ordered it to shipdirect !
If you’re near pike place market, this is the place you need to stop by. I could have spent hours in the store, looking at all the unique maps!
Awesome store with tons of unique maps. I love the fiction maps section the most!
Great place to look around. It does have maps, obviously. Also, geography themed getting cards - yes ... And they are really nice. And travel books and foreign language books. A few travel accessories, too. And very helpful staff if you cant quite find what youre looking for.Not just for map lovers, but also for travelers and book lovers.Do stop in, the place is a delight!
I love visiting this store. Im here at least a couple times a month. They have a great selection of maps and other travel related material. I especially like being able to talk here to get my Green trails maps for hiking.
Metsker Maps is one of my favorite shops in Seattle. Tons of corners to wander around, with a range of products appealing to both amateur and professional map fanatics. Shop owners are helpful and the store is clean and well-organized. Worth a stop!
Love this store. Helpful staff and great place to get gifts
I love maps and majored in geography, so I’d been expecting to go here since I planned my visit to Seattle. However, the owner was very rude all along and didn’t even say goodbye when I left after buying almost $100 worth of stuff. I don’t know what his problem is but YOU SHOULD LEARN MORE ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Bad Experience.
Great and comprehensive collection of maps, and other aids to navigation of Seattle, the Pacific North West and the World. Very helpful staff. Fun to shop and browse in.
A National Treasue. A travel bookshop like no other.
A fun place if you love maps, and books and maps about potentially more fun places to visit.
Wonderful store! I was able to find hiking maps for national parks in the US that REI and a regular bookstore dont have. They have all of the mountaineers hiking books- its nice to have all of them in one place. Ill be coming here from now on when I need travel books. I also found a cute stake l Seattle nightlight from a local craftsperson
Always a great map shop with fantastic books and gift choices based around travel, geography, and local history.
Cool shop for just browsing, although I came in to find specific backcountry maps of Oregon. The employees were extremely helpful and you could tell they were very knowledgeable about all kinds of maps. Not just a tourist/trinket store.
A store I didnt mind getting myself lost in. The maps, the books, the little knick knacks were all so fun to see and go through. Must stop by when youre in downtown Seattle!
We found this fantastic shop by chance. What a great surprise!! It is a really cool place and I bought myself a great print.
Cool map stuff! No, really! Historic globes, new maps, laser cut bas relief representations, travel books, tourist maps, posters, and more!
This amazingly unique shop is a must next time you are around Pike place market. Its really difficult to explain the variety of Maps, different kind of globe miniature, travel information ranging from small town to constellation (not kidding). Also, the staff is really helpful, and there are some really nice souvenos items for someone who loves travelling and learning about new places.
Amazing store! I could spend hours here. Great gift ideas!
Large selection of maps of all types, good sales force.
Great store and excellent service!Weve been looking around for a Seattle street map that had good detail but was artistic enough to hang on a wall. Within five minutes of walking into Metsker Maps, the staff had located the perfect map for us. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly.
It is my one absolute must-stop location in Seattle when I visit family. Awesome place for map-nerds, as well as those who want a great selection of travel guides for Seattle and just about any other place you can think of. Great for gifts for the geography/history buff in the family (like me).
They have every map you could possibly need. i’ve been multiple times for my map needs!
A great selection of all things cartographic! Are you traveling near or far? Theyve got every guide you can ask for. Language phrasebooks for muddling about in a foreign land? Ja! Oui! Sí! Да! نعم! Want a globe or decorative map for the home? All shapes, sizes, and types! Hiking maps? Check! Plug convertors for going abroad? Every style!Lovely staff, excellent shop. I hope its around for years to come!
In addition to the plethora of maps, Metsker is a convenient place to pick up Northwest Forest or Discover Pass in the downtown area. Friendly and attentive staff!
Fun place for travelers, geography geeks, and vexillologists! 🎒🌎🇺🇸
Amazing collection of maps, books, and trivia. Go here!
So many really interesting maps you wont generally find elsewhere. Geography nerds could easily spend an hour or two here.
Cool niche store with fun array of art and functional maps.
If it is maps you want, this is the place. They also have all kinds of geography and cartography things. This is not a quick in and out place with all the things there to distract you. So spend time or stay focused
Im a big fan of maps, and this is one of the coolest establishments Ive ever been to. Knowledgeable staff and a great selection of maps from all around the world.
So many maps here, a cartographers paradise.
The COOLEST store! Maps of everything.
Great selection of both practical and novelty maps. Staff was helpful and knowledgeable.
I love this store. They got maps of backpacking campsites every in Washington state!.
I got my National Parks Pass, and a new road atlas here and had the summer of a lifetime
What a great store. Just moved to the area and was exploring downtown for the first time and what a great find. If you like maps as I do you will love this store. They have an incredible selection of maps that you might want to have as wall art or for actual use. As more people use GPS I sometimes worry that maps will go out of use, but there is something to be said about actually seeing and reading a large wall map. I felt bad that I didnt buy anything there because I want to support the store, but the item I wanted was a little out of my price range. I will be back though, its more like a museum then a retail outlet.
Great store with a very good selection of maps and travel guides.
What can I say? It’s basically heaven on earth.
Amazing shop where you can find beautiful maps and lots of travel books. I could spend hours in a shop like this !! Unfortunately, as we were travelers, we did not have enough room to buy some maps for our house :)
I love this place! Maps have always been a draw for me and this place really has some great ones!
I love this little map shop, I can spend way too much money here! Great selection and always happy to order something if they dont stock it.
Great map store. Awesome environment.
Love it! Great selection from high end globes on stands to pocket paper maps.
Shopping here beats online shopping any day! I knew what I wanted, ordered and paid over the phone, and they walked it out to my car!
Good places for finding presents and got original maps and related stuff: guides, posters...
Sweet!! The map lover loved this map shop!
This store is like a dream! it has lots and lots of beautiful maps from various parts of the world.
An wonderful assortment of maps, globe and related items including compass and magnifying glass
Great selection of travel and recreation maps for hiking, orienteering, travel or decoration.
If you need a map, any map, they will have, or get it. A great company.
Favorite store in Seattle. Awesome souvenirs, puzzles, maps (obviously), books, etc! Decor is sweet, too! A MUST if visiting Seattle!!
Good info friendly and helpful staff.
