I am pretty happy with the wood work, however I was totally blindsided by the nearly $1k price tag. My slab only cost $500. I asked them for an estimate, and when they only gave me their hourly rates, I did not stop to ask them how many hours they estimated. They said my 10x5 slab took them 7hrs! So please make sure they give you a complete estimate and you do not end up with a hefty surprise like me.Also, the wood shop where I bought my slab had guesstimated my slab would take 3hrs max so....

We needed custom stair and fencing rail caps milled from walnut for our steel rails (constructed by another fabricator). Laurie at O.B. Williams was super helpful and patient with the whole process. Once the walnut caps were ready to our specifications, we brought in the metal rails and they attached them. The whole process was really smooth. This was for a three-story, high end townhouse remodel with many custom touches. The rails were beautiful! Everyone who came in commented on them. Thank you, O.B. Williams. Well definitely use you again for custom millwork.

My first visit was pre-covid so they allowed me to guide the technician in flat-sawing and seam-gluing three maple top 7.5 x 20 body blanks. They only charged me for half an hour (@$60/hr their minimum) for sawing and gluing but in reality it took a lot less time than that.Imagine my surprise when during my 2nd visit (during lockdown) when they charged me 4 hours at $120/hr for flat-sawing three pieces of mahogany and gluing these maple tops! For most of the work I was curbside and watched most of the flat-sawing get done so I wasnt too concerned. I can understand charging for a convenience premium during covid since they were the only show in town and was considered essential. But they were not upfront at all with how many hours they were going to charge me, especially knowing that it doesnt take 4 hours to run three 20 inch length wood blanks through a mill. This is called unprofessionalism. A simple call couldve mitigated this. Dont set a low expectation and then come around and charge people without consulting them.I tried to talk reasonably with them and even protested a little bit but they wouldnt budge and my bill still ended up being around $500. Imagine that. Definitely gives you a feeling of dread, being violated & taken advantage of.

Probably a good mill shop for small projects but dont expect them to get it right if you have specific requirements. My budget grew in cost and time about three times the original quote of 2 days at $1500 to 1 week at $3500 and the work was only partial complete. Miscommunication errors in house. If you have a large job youre better off buying your own industrial planer and drum sander. Laurie is nice. Good luck.

There are mill services available so if your project is beyond what you can do in the garage, you can make an appointment and have them run the 50 wide belt sander, the 28 planer, re-saw to 18, jointer and even glue things up. Appointments are required.
