I really wanted to love this shop. Craig and Diego are both very sweet and charismatic, I felt at home from the start. My first issue with their establishment is that I was not able to get a refund for something I had rented in advance and no longer needed. They said they would get charged a fee to refund me, even though I didn’t rent the equipment. Oh well, I got over that - that was my own error. The thing that truly saddens me and ruined my experience with this shop their lack of care with my boots. I rented mountaineering boots online and picked them up the day before my climb. They felt fine at first glance and try-on, with plenty of room for my feet! I grabbed my gear and headed on my way, without a second thought. It wasn’t until I was at 6,000 feet elevation when I realized they had forgotten to put insoles in my boots, and I ended up walking on (what felt like) a wooden board of a shoe with no support for the entirety of my 16-hour climb. I was never told I had to ask for insoles, as this should always be included in a rental. My feet ached the entire time until they finally went numb. In fact, it’s been two weeks since my climb and I still have no sensation in my feet or toes. When I returned the boots, I told them about my painful experience, asked if there was anything they could do to make up for the error on their behalf. I was told that I should have noticed, that it was no big deal, that there was nothing they could do. I enjoyed my climb, but the experience was definitely dampened by extreme foot pain, and it was incredibly disheartening to hear they had no empathy for the pain they had caused.I understand mistakes happen, but I’m a firm believer that a business should stand by their product and support their customers. Make things right when you mess up. Empathy and “putting the customer first” can go a long way. I am sad to say that I will not purchase from this company again.

Met with Diego to pick up an ice ax and crampons before a trip to Sahale Glacier. He was very helpful, laid back and easy to work with. The gear performed as expected and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip! Upon return, Craig helped us out and we chatted with him about his recent Baker summit and other climbs he’s done through the years. Great shop, great gear and great service!

We stopped in after my old hiking backpack started to rip. We got immediate service and help to find a good replacement for me. They have backpacks, climbing gear, hiking and camping gear, and awesome hats and gloves. If you dont immediately see what you need, help is seconds away with the wonderful staff.

Today as enjoying a lovely breakfast at Bonnie Jos. A fellow patron had taken ill, severe enough that 2 ambulances were called to the store front, to help the gentleman.I do not know if the Gentleman from this store is the owner or just an employee(dark hair, yellow shirt, black vest & shorts, maybe mid to late 40s) had the audacity to walk out into the middle of the street to record what was happening to the poor man, while he was in the ambulance.I have not nor will I ever shop at this store.

This was my first time renting mountaineering gear. I rented boots, crampons and hiking poles. Other gear needed for the trip was provided by a friend. The goal was a one day summit trip to Shuksan. Craig took the time needed to help me get a great fitting boot and pre set the crampons for the boots. It was easy to see that Craig was a wealth of knowledge and was happy to answer any questions I had. Further more he was happy to hear about my experience summiting Shuksan and how the gear performed for me. Craig and his team truly care for the love and growth of the sport! I would not hesitate to rent/buy gear from them in the future!!

Diego is an incredible guy! He made us feel at home there and even invited us to stay and watch soccer. When I later returned with a broken pair of glacier glasses that I had rented, he was incredibly nice about it and turned down my request to pay for them.

What a gem for Sedro-Woolley,or better yet the Northwest corridor north of Seattle. It is obvious just walking through the door that this store is a labor of love. The selection of gear to purchase or rent is amazing. Craig and Diego both offer years of experience in the mountains in assisting with a purchase or rental. Whether buying a simple canister of fuel to high end climbing carabiners, this store has it all. I really cant imagine going back to the box store in Bellingham! We look forward to continuing to shop at the Mountain Shop for our hiking and mountaineering needs. Thanks Craig for providing our area with this incredible resource!
