Had the day off so my family and I decided to try this place out. The atmosphere was welcoming and the vibe looks to be very laid back and chill for a happy hour or dinner with drinks. The lemon chicken soup was plentiful and delicious. Made with real chicken chunks and fresh ingredients. The Picnic Hill burger was cooked to perfection and the fries were fresh, crispy and thick cut! To top off the meal we all had desserts... the blueberry lemon pie was fresh out of the oven, the donuts were light and fluffy, and the red velvet cupcake was decadent. Make a trip out here and try this place out. You wont regret it!
Picnic Hill is a hidden gem in Shaker Heights! Ive been here several times, once for take out, another time for drinks and appetizers on a Friday night and lunch on the patio on Fairmount Circle. My sister is vegetarian so we were happy with the large amount of options she had! Their tacos on Tuesday are 10/10 fresh ingredients. Everything is high quality here and I am happy to support a locally owned business. The owners are friendly and have been at the restaurant every time that Ive been here.
I love that this little market cafe is right by our house! Their cocktails are delicious and the food is good too. Love the little gourmet/international market inside. This is a great place to hang out. The staff is very friendly too!
Picnic Hill is a great place, all the way around! Go in and chat with the owners, Michael and Shawn, and you’ll see why they only serve the best drinks and the best food. And it’s a market too - wine, beer, cheese, tuna salad, select seasonal produce, etc. Want a special thing you don’t see, just ask and they’ll see if they can get it for you. Great addition to the neighborhood!
My friends did a Private Brunch at this venue today, 10/11/2020. We paid in advance for our meals. It was a packed event with 40 people in attendance. The event went well in the beginning, then the food came out COLD. We had grits, green tomatoes w/ crab cakes. The food was to come out at 1:15pm. The food didnt come out until 2:30pm, a lot people still had no food. The event was from Noon-4pm, so we had Amazing music going & mingling, great ppl coming together, we had our masks too. Ok back to the food, so our food comes out the grits looked like dried corneal, still gritty, & super DRY. The tomatoes were red and not fried, they were mushy, the crab cakes werent a consistent size. It was 5 of us at my table. 3 of us ordered this meal. The food came to the table & all of them went back to the kitchen. Literally the other 12 plates of grits came back too. The plates were stacked over each other. So now were waiting for our food. My other 2 friends had the French toast with chicken & fruit compote. My one friend had her undercooked French toast come out & the French toast had egg still over the edges of the bread & was mushy on the inside. The fried chicken lacked flavor & wasnt fully cooked. I sent that order back. My other friends order of French toast came out she took one bite, it was eggy & chicken wasnt done. She didnt want a reorder & left the event with no meal. The host of the event came and asked if we would accept French toast w/ crab cakes we had to send the orders back at least 3 more more times due to the French toast not being fully cooked. The crab cakes were fishy on my friends plate. As for me and my friend we got French Toast & Chicken the chicken still lacked flavor and was finally cooked through and the French toast was still a lil undone, we got our food at 3:15pm the event ended at 4pm keep that in mind. One of the managers Shawn was cooking the food, he had another guy back there & he was a helper. Shawn cannot cook brunch, I stood by the counter to watch the food come out. The servers were terrible, they came by our table one time, we had to keep calling them over to get us napkins, silverware, etc. The sad part is I had been here before for lunch and that food was good. This felt like bait & switch. The venue was closed to the public so they had no distractions to not focus on quality food. It looks like they bit off more then they could chew or cook for that matter. Im so disappointed in this place because no management came out to apologize for the terrible service & food. I dont recommend them for any private events and will not return. The pics were the original food that came out & I sent back. The French toast was the plate my other friend sent back and she didnt eat it. None of these meals were eaten. Look closely at my grits plate. To the managers you all need to reevaluate how yall run business & do private events. This is super unacceptable & to those reading this how was it that I ordered Grits w/green tomatoes never was remade nor did grits ever come out after the first catastrophe of food. They also didnt let ppl know that green tomatoes are out of season, which is a lie because green tomatoes are unripe tomatoes they just didnt order them. Aldo before me & my friend got our plates the host, Evelyn had to cut into the French toast to make sure it was done. She had to stsndy by the bar/kitchen counter to check each plate before it went out. Thats how bad the food was & she still had to send some back before they hit the floor because some werent fully cooked yet. Michael the other owner stayed in the kitchen or by the bar, he did come out to drop off some plates that were recooked. He never gave an apology as well. To my friends yall threw an amazing event unfortunately this business couldnt step up to deliver quality food. Keep doing great things and this is a learning curve. After the event we went to bar Louie for food I got quesadillas quesadillas, which Picnic Hill Market doesnt serve this. Bar Louie had great food & quality service.
This restaurant is good for breakfast, and the lunch choices are similar. The menu is very heavy on eggs, but the sandwiches are unique and tasty.
Working in the area installing new gas main owner brought us coffee for free everyday great place
The food was very generous, the waitress and owner were great.
Fantastic lunch today! Owners were helpful, knowledgeable, provided excellent service and the food was incredible! Highly recommend!
Great live music, great food and outstanding Gimlet.
So, first time customer to Picnic. Ordered dinner online, crispy thin cut eggplant parmigiana and the fried chicken dinner (all white meat) grilled string beans and potato lyonnaise. What we received was one inch think planks of eggplant - not crispy, inedible and a slab of mozzarella cheese on top. We didn’t fair much better with the fried chicken dinner - first of all it must have been leftover from lunch and was room temp, I received a wing(only white meat) a drum stick and a thigh - so much for the $3 upcharge for “white meat only” no grilled string beans just an inedible melange of carrots and string beans - no grill marks in sight - also cold.I ordered online, at 4:00 pm for a 5:45 pickup .I arrived at 5:30 called for curbside pick up,told them I was early and they said “no problem “ that should have been the heads up of old food.I called to register my disappointment, spoke with the female manager. She was polite . Said the right things “thank you for your feedback “etc. My advise - run don’t walk away from “to go” food from this place.
Fabulous lunch, exciting wine list, friendly owners.
Stumbled in randomly on a Friday night for happy hour and had a wonderful experience. The specialty drinks are quite good and the food portions are huge and delicious. Service from the owners was warm and friendly. Stayed open after posted closing to allow our group to finish meals and drinks. Looking forward to going back again.
Let start with the exterior. Parking not that great because it sits on the corner of a roundabout and shares the parking lot with several other businesses(so that would be their fault). Interior very cute inside. Reminds me of an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. Now for the service.... Ill mention for that I attended a private event(for staff purposes) no utensils at the table I was ASSIGNED to. Finally got someone to take my drink order after about 12 minutes. Received a cup of black coffee with no sugar or cream. Received a glass of water without any ice & when I asked for a straw I was given a bare straw with no wrapping & it was place on the bare table. Finally received food after starving for 2 1/2 hours and the chicken was tasteless and RAW 🤢 the French toast was made with TOO many eggs & I notice that I wasnt the only one sending my food back! At least 5 out of the 7 tables of attendees had sent their food back ONE THAN ONCE! Im all for second chance but I doubt if Ill ever be back because the owners NEVER if attempted to offer an apology.
Great food fast friendly service
Great lunch Paloma cocktail, tomato bisque, and salad. Will be back soon for the famous fried fish.
Went with a few friends recently and had a great experience. The cocktails were delicious, and the food was very good. Service was great. Will definitely be back!!
Ordered a sandwich to go. Every person was super friendly and helpful. As mentioned in other reviews, its a little sparse in there but Id say its more of a big space to fill.I enjoyed my food very much. Good selection but I would love to see some additional, more traditional fare offerings.I look forward to returning and I would recommend folks check out their menu without hesitation.
Poor food, poor service and unconcerned owner. All orders were wrong and cold! Cold coffee, cold food and waited one hour for one order to be corrected. Overall do not go!!! Bad place!!!
Food took a hour to be made, but decent staff, especially the bar lady, now 5 stars for her!
Great service, great place, great food and very friendly people
I love this little place! Great selection of wine and the take out food is great. Looking forward to dining in sometime soon!
Picnic has a great bar, friendly and professional owners, the best breakfast sandwich on the Eastside, delicious taco Tuesday selections, and a fantastic Friday fish dinner. Great neighborhood place. Highly recommend.
Great location, fantastic and quick food, and a great environment! I was able to enjoy a lovely conversation (and a beer) with the owners while I waited for my lunch to-go and will definitely return! The club was great and the farro salad was incredible🙂
Fantastic food, craft cocktails and awesome owners. LOVE this place
The new chef is extraordinary! The market has grown and the new food and drink menus are spectacular. Looking forward to have them cater my events as well.
Went here for an event. The event was very wonderful. On the other hand the service was horrible, the food had no taste at all. I had what was supposed to be fried green tomatoes crab cake and grits, the grits were cold hard and can be picked up in one scoop clumped together. The crab cakes were cold and flat with no taste, what was suppose to be a fried green tomato on top was a regular tomato with a very nasty sauce. When we sent out food back(along with everyone who orded that particular dish) it took them another 45 min to fix the problem. NO one came to us to apologize for the mess up. When asked for straws, eating utensils they were brought to the table not wrapped up and they just sat it on the table. No one refreshed our water or to even see if we were ok.
Very enjoyable lunch
So good! I highly recommend.
Great food and very friendly staff! Ordered curbside pickup and everything was hot and ready at the time we requested. Will be back to try other menu items soon!
The atmosphere was welcoming and the food was delicious. Kid friendly space on a Tuesday afternoon. I enjoy the open kitchen concept, as well as watching the bartenders learn to make drinks. Very nice addition to the area.
This is a very unprofessional business. We ordered and prepaid dinner as required online early this afternoon. Went to pick up food at 6:30 as scheduled and were told they were sold out of our entrees! They claimed they called at 5:30 to let us know but no record of call on our phone. Half heartedly they asked my husband if he wanted to order something else and wait for it to be prepared. He walked out. Stay away. This business is not reliable nor customer friendly. P.s. my husband got an email today saying we are getting a store credit for this meal THEY canceled on us. No apology. Very arrogant to think we will be back to use a store credit. Stay away.
Great food, awesome atmosphere, and good service.
Good food and service.
Food is absolutely awesome just make sure you ask for condiments silverware napkins when you get it to go
I hated it! This was the worst place Ive ever been to it was so nasty do not come here no one had mask on and they do not care about your safety.
Good BBQ chicken, the rub was very good, pieces were pretty small though.
Very friendly atmosphere. Staff and owners were very professional and friendly. I will be back
Good service just opened so kind of stark. Food was okay. Egg salad was delicious
Really excited to have found this place! The food is incredible!
The food is very good, the staff are great and the selection of food and wine is good as well.
