Wonderful farm with very serene, beautiful trails. You can see lots of animals, including chickens, cows, horses, and sheep. You can also see how cheese is made live in their little factory. Some things are closed due to COVID, but theres a shop you can buy fresh produce at to support the farm. There are many different trails and you can choose them based on how long you want to walk. Theres a lot to do, and a lot to see!
The Shelburne farm trails at Shelburne farms are such a delight to explore this time of year. The elevation is moderate with lots to see along the way and it kinda reminded me of Northern Maines coastline while walking along lake Champlains shore line.On my way out I picked up so of their beef lasagna and Tractor cheddar cheese from the visitor center.I would definitely recommend going to Shelburne farms to any of my friends.
Great spot for exploration, a nature walk, wildlife viewing, farm animals, food, and seeing a very cool old farm.Stopped by to show the little one an old family favorite and we werent disappointed. Lots of turkeys (both wild and domestic), horses, cattle, chickens, rabbits, goats...and a very neat set of farm buildings.Came back the next day it was so good. Thanks for all you do!
Shelburne Farms is wonderful to visit all year around. In the winter, the grounds are open for hiking, snowshoeing, and skiing. The views are beautiful and wind through the farm, by the lake, and over the hills. There are lots of things to discover along the way, and you can end your outing with food from the take-out window! Shelburne Farms is a definite outing recommendation.
Wow; what a great place!January snow hiking / walking is chilly and beautiful. The paths are plowed well, and there were several cross country skiers trekking alongside the paths. The sunset over the lake is quite stunning, and the area in general: fields, rolling hills, and barns are picturesque!Food: their stuffed cabbage is DELICIOUS! Only wish I had ordered more Food!Gifts: during covid they have closed all their buildings - however they are accommodating gift & clothing etc purchases through window service.
Really enjoyed the 41/2 mile loop. The bakery at the main barn was worth the walk alone, then up the hill and through maple forest laced with tubing for syrup/sap harvest, out to the edge of Lake Champlain and on through meadows and more wonderful scenery.
The Farm barn is like something out of a movie its literally like Vermonts own Hogwarts. It houses a k-8 school, its such a unique and peaceful place.
An amazing landscape with lots of open space and walkways. You can spend an entire afternoon here with family.
This is a fine example of a large farm that operated around the turn of the century. It was primarily a cow operation that provided meat and dairy products. Most of the current operation is viewed from a distance due to covid restrictions. There are trails and a store selling cheese made on premise and gifts.
Beautiful place to visit! I love that you can see farm animals and sit by the lake. Great for getting some exercise in by walking. The workers were very kind and had no problem with my friend and I walking the trails despite it being after listed hours! Definitely a great place to go!
Great place for kids and adults
Lots of fun trails across well manicured landscape. Seriously you could film a period piece movie here. The farmstore has fresh produce and prepared foods. They also make their own maple syrup and it is competitively priced. This is a great place for families.
A place dating back to the van der bills apparently but now a beautiful farm for cheese making...fine Vermont cheddar... and baked breads and wonderful walks at the edge of Lake Champlain.
What an awesome experience.
Worth a stop over if you have time in town to explore a farm. Prepare to walk a while to see everything! Cool nonprofit.
Relaxing walk to the Lake Champlain shore and back took an hour or so.
Store is currently outside with purchases made at window, which was fine. Unable to drive into farm but could park at store by road and take a nice walk to the main barn area. Chickens, goats, horses and the farm cat were around to watch.
It is 2021. The ONLY reason they get 4/5 stars is because the Inn and the restaurant are closed to.the public and you cant give half a star. I rate them 4.5 this visit. The grounds are beautiful and we walked many of the trails. We took different trails to and from the gardens where there are spectacular views of the lake and mountains. You wont want to miss a visit to this place.
So Ive heard people rave about this place, so I brought our 3 1/2 year old because they advertised a childrens barnyard. Its a pretty good walk for little legs to the animals, and there were VERY few there. Some chickens, 1 rabbit and some goats. Horses were MIA and the dairy barn was closed. I understand I giess having the buildings closed.....but they wouldnt even let you walk AROUND the dairy barns. People mention sooo many other things....but if they were there, there was no way for us to know. It is a breathtaking place to walk, nice expansive trails, but we did not walk beyond the dairy barn. The signage is pretty weak again, and there are no maps in pamplet form, so be sure to take a picture of the map with your phone....otherwise....wander? Which, here, I dont recommend with little people....its a long walk.We had brought a lunch because I wasnt sure what they would have and they seemed to have a bunch of things on the menu, but I was VERY surprised to find they didnt have ice cream?? I feel like for a place like this, that is a VERY missed point of income? especially in the summer.I might go again for a nice walk.....but thats about it. NOT AT ALL what I have heard it, or expected it, to be.
Beautiful grounds and walkable paths made this a great outing for the kids. It was a warm morning with a nice breeze lending to a pleasant walk up to the farm. Strollers handled the path with relative ease. The only animals around were chickens and goats but the scenery alone was worth it.
Beautiful with so much space to explore. Loved the little farmers market in front and the bakery and cheese making area. Childrens farm was great and the trail with the story along the way was fun!
Excellent place for a short hike. Farm is very well maintained. Fall foliage is awesome
A beautiful hike full of history, paired with amazing local cheeses and products?! Yes please! To top it all off with their great mission makes this place truly special.
It was really cool, lots of hiking trails and few animals. Got to see a cheese maker and got some fresh homemade cookies and bread. Due to COVID-19 there were no tours or transportation.
Shelburne Farms is a nonprofit education center for sustainability, 1,400 acres (570 ha) working farm, and National Historic Landmark on the shores of Lake Champlain in Shelburne, Vermont. The property is nationally significant as a well-preserved example of a Gilded Age ornamental farm, developed in the late 19th century with architecture by Robert Henderson Robertson and landscaping by Frederick Law Olmsted.
An extraordinary place. A wonderful gift the Webb has given to the local community and the world at large. If you enjoy it please consider becoming a member to help support this wonderful institution into the future.
Great walking trails, beautiful scenery, farm animals
Awesome place to visit need half day to cover if you want trail all the to inn we were late so couldn’t catch the cheese factory time
The staff was all about teaching and educating the public, even to the littlest kiddo. There were also many places to take in the breath-taking views, both inside structures and the formal gardens, to just about everywhere outside! Make sure you also visit the Market Garden when you can, and say hello to an animal or two (and more)!
Pro tip...Order farm fresh groceries and prepared dishes online then pick them up at their curbside shop AFTER you go for a run, hike, xcountry ski, snowshoe on the miles of beautiful trails and paths throughout this working farm.
Such a gorgeous estate, you will not want to miss a visit here! You can plan eating out for dinner or brunch here, go visit the barn animals where kids are welcome to pet sheep etc., or just go for a walk on the beautiful trails. Starting November 1 they allow dogs on leash on the property. Once the busy season is on dogs are not allowed. There are many trails to take into the woods, to a barn, to the lake, etc. You will not be bored. Plenty of parking and they often have cool events and horse drawn tractor rides. I have also seen signs of cross country skiing as well. I never tire of this bucolic place and feel lucky that it is open to the public.
Love this place, beautiful friendly and clean. Great cheese as well
Dont forget the cheddar cheese, especially the TRACTOR cheddar
Nothing special. I only went for some food, but there wasnt much in terms of variety. Mostly just fruits and vegetables. Quality wasnt great, considering its a farm. Probably a better experience on the walking trails.
....even during a pandemic, a great place to visit...the walking paths are great and the views spectacular....
Its a big, beautiful place. Cars are not allowed beyond the parking lot for the shop. We simply parked the car there and walked the trail all the way to the lake. The view along the trail was beautiful! So was the public garden next to a mansion on a hill with the lake view.
The farm is extremely laid out perfectly! The trails to find different venues on the farm are easy to walk suggest this place to anybody whos a hiker
Such a beautiful place... lots of open spaces and trails to walk. Plenty of great views and places to explore. If you are visiting Vermont, this is definitely something you want to schedule on your itinerary.
Beautiful place to visit. Great for kids as there is a petting zoo, cheese tasting. They have a food cart which had a few snack options which was nice too. You could also stay at their Inn which will let you take your car into the farms. If you are an external visitor you will need to use their shuttle service.
Beautiful views, long walk almost 6 miles, bring a lot of cold bottled water, they only sell seltzer water. It is definitely worth a visit.
Family oriented place, great service, courteous personnel, take the trolley ride to walk you through the farm, received good information on how cheese, bread and other goods are manufactured, do not miss the boutique at the entry for cheese, farm products or souvenirs can be bought, big free parking lot available, all personnel is very friendly,
This is not just any farm tour. A National historic landmark 1400 acres and, an hour long tour of Shelburne Farms was worth the money. A visit to the cheese factory and at the end cheese tasting was a welcoming treat. Love the views on the property. Overlook Lake Champlain was gorgeous and romantic. The grounds, animals, sheep & cows spread out. On a lush green land. The end of the tour got to taste their famous cheese with the hot red pepper jam from SideHill Farm is awesome. Kid friendly place for the whole family. The inn is an added family getaway.
One of my favorite places in the state. The walking trails are well maintained, and the views are gorgeous. The old barn, Inn, and coach house are remarkable set into the rolling hills of the property. During the off-season, you can bring your dogs hear, and do some snowshoeing too. Great year round entertainment
A must see old Vanderbilt working farm which has evolved into a sustainable agricultural learning center.Walk the grounds, buy some cheese and other items at their store.Covid safe but struggling.DONATE ONLINE. ...A REAL TREASURE.
Perfect spot for photography besides its amazing beauty 💚
This is the place where Vermont (i.e.Green Hills) fully deserves its name. Beautiful landscapes.
I absolutely loved the experience. Wines are really great here! Please try a flight and buy the one you like.
Had a wonderful walk around this beautiful farm. Perfectly manicured, thoroughly enjoyed seeing the property and the animals. Did not get to see inside buildings because of Covid restrictions.
Great place to walk/hike with beautiful backdrops.
This is a great place to take kids! We spent the whole morning here and still didnt see everything. There are some packed gravel walking trails that are fine for strollers. We walked out to the barn area and rode the wagon back. The bakery in the farm area was a welcome surprise with French pastries that tasted like the ones in France! We loved the chicken parade and checking the coop for eggs and getting to milk the cow. The play areas for kids are awesome and there are so many hands on learning displays all over. We had lunch at the farm cart and the food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend a visit here with the whole family! You could easily spend the whole day here and not get bored.
We had an awesome day at the farm. We learned so much about how cheddar cheese is made. We did a tasting and bought some cheese to take home. We visited the animals and I had fun holding Pearl the chicken. We had a great lunch made from farm products. Try the lamb pastrami sandwich. The bacon cheeseburger was so yummy. Also there is a bakery that makes incredible croissants.
An amazing 1400 acre farm that offer guded tours or you can explore it yourself. Lots of farm animals on site from chickens, cows, sheep, lambs, goats and pigs. They offer viewing demonstration such as milking cows and much more. The views while walking along the trails are absolutely AMAZING especially when you make it to the coast line.
We spent the most wonderful day here! I loved seeing the animals and the views are just beautiful. I went in the fall and it was just gorgeous. Allot a few hours because I could have stayed all day!
Fanciest stable Ive seen except for the Clysdales stable. Long walk for little children to animals. Glad we brought our stroller. Salt, most of the fun things are currently closed due to the pandemic.
Beautiful grounds to take a stroll. Make sure you go up to Lone Tree Hill as thats where you get a beautiful view of the lake.
Gorgeous views, great staff and some excellent food. Try the cheese!
I love buying farm fresh goodies and supporting a local business
Absolutely a must-visit place in Vermont.Family-friendly with logs of activities to try: milking a cow, petting sheep, cheese-making tours, wine & cheese pairing, shopping their lovely products- jams, maple syrup, trinkets, souvenirs. Its picturesque farm-estate.
Enjoyed delicious cocktails and strolling the grounds! Wonderful, helpful staff!
Stunning fields and absolutely gorgeous buildings. The view of the mountains is breathtaking.
Great for young kids. Free cheese samples. Lots of opportunities to interact with the animals and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We loved it!
This place was amazing. Friendly animals (still dangerous), beautiful gardens and awesome service. We walked from the welcome center to the formal garden at the Inn, and back. If you’re out of shape like us I wouldn’t recommend it- drive there haha. However, the peaceful 90 minute round trip walk was still worth it.
It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. Absolutely stunning and a must visit if you’re I town. Drive or walk through the farm and enjoy the scenic view. The lake looks gorgeous from here ♥️
Outside only for now but good food.
Great for children with the animals at the barn. Miles of excellent groomed walking trails. Spectacular grounds, both scenery, and architecture.
Spring is arriving on Lake Champlain, and what better way to enjoy the views and pick up fresh bread and cheeses made right in front of you, then to visit Shelburne Farms. Nestled in the North Country of Vermont, this sustainable farm offers many educational programs as well as an excellent opportunity to enjoy the delicious foods they provide. The historic main house reopens in May so do check before planning a surprise overnight. This stunning edifice contains rich architectural period details and harkens back to such grandeur and appreciation of the views looking outward. The grounds are vast, and it is worth a meander down to the waters edge at sunset for a particularly romantic twilight. They have a bakery that makes delicious goodies to enjoy, and you can see cheese being made right there. So fun and tasty too. You can also purchase organic grass-fed beef here among other items from Shelburne Farms. If the hotel is booked, there are several local options. So do stay and return here for breakfast in the main dining room. There is nothing like a farm fresh egg omelet that comes with a view and silver service!
We took a great 4 mile hike around the farm. Beautiful scenery.
Due to Covid, they do not offer in store shopping. The view is nice.
Wonderful place for families of all ages!
Went for the Vermont Cheesemakers festival. Nice event on Shelbourne farms. Beautiful sitting. Enjoyable afternoon tasting gourmet foods, cheese, wine, beer and spirits. On the shore of lake Champlain.
This is a beautiful farm with plenty of space to walk, experience, and learn.
Beautiful grounds with lovely views. Try the cookies from the bakery while you are there.
Amazing oatmeal cookies and it has fresh bread ! Super kid friendly
Beautiful location on lake Champlain. Wander the grounds and walking trails. Terrific cheese made on site.
Perfect place to bring kids and take a beautiful walk!
World class place with an interesting history.
Large grass fields but not really much sightseeing other than green, blue sky and cows!
Amazing scenery, wonderful staff, beautiful place. One of my favorite places on earth!
Nice. Only wish the Inn was open.
Beautiful farmstead with lots of interactive elements for kids. Lot of walking as the tractor cart is down for the pandemic.
Free to visit, nice walking trails. Cheese and produce shop open daily
The farm is super big.. We covered just the farm and cheese making. its super fun for kids with very friendly staff
What an absolutely beautiful place to spend a day.
