One of the water supply lines in my 2004 travel trailer sprung a leak. I looked online for info on how to fix it and the main recommendation was to cut a piece of the line and take it to a hardware store for help. I called Builders first to make sure they had someone who could help me. Got down there and had to wait a couple of minutes while the gentleman on the floor helped someone else but he got to me as soon as he could. I just called and found out his name is Doug. He was very helpful. I had no idea what connectors I would need and he handed me everything I needed along with an explanation of how the connectors work. I got home, and got to work. I was able to fix it by myself. I am pretty proud of that but it wouldnt have worked out that way if I hadnt had help. So big thanks to Doug and Builders. Ill be sure to call on them next time I hit a snag doing repairs or home improvement.

I went in to the Shelton location looking for a brass fitting for my truck and a gentleman by the name of Doug I believe helped me out and mad my experience amazing. He used to be a diesel tech in his day and I as well and continued to have an awesome conversation, I will always go back as long as he’s there to help. Thank you Doug

Nice store and has quite a variety of different building supplies at what you would currently expect to pay. Only suggestion would be to have some way to know who is an employee or not. I had someone start talking to me who I thought was another customer, but it was an employee. It would be nice also if everything had a price tag nearby so that you dont have to go back in to find out the price. I know that in our current world that those can be changing frequently but we arent talking about tagging each item but rather just the shelf or spot where they go. The employees were all very friendly that we interacted with during our trips there.

I have been using this store for 20 years to buy materials for a vacation home projects and repairs. Knowledgeable staff have directed me successfully. The store previously had a different name but it is otherwise unchanged. Highly recommend.

On the Shelton Washington Community Page, called Shelton Talks, a single mother who is fighting each day to provide the best life she can possible for her children, had made a request on the page, for three one gallon cans of paint and so I decided to take on the challenge of finding out exactly what paint she would like and I decided to reach out to Builders FirstSource !I called and explained the situation to a gentleman named Tim, he felt compelled to help and unfortunately he wasn’t going to be on shift when I was able to make it to their store however, he told Forest about my request to help this young woman.Forest was prepared to take care of this request as soon as I stepped through the door, he helped me find exactly the perfect colors and he carefully mixed the different colors to get the right ones.The people working at Builders FirstSource, are amazing people, they have the most amazing level of compassion and the mother who they donated this paint to, was so overwhelmed with happiness!Her children are dealing with health issues and her children’s father is fighting a terminal illness and this act of compassion, made a significant difference in her and her children’s lives.I can’t thank Tim and Forest enough, thank you so much for being actively involved in the community.I have never experienced such great customer service before, I absolutely stand by the employees and this business.I have so much love and appreciation for all of you, especially Tim and Forest!Angels among humanity!

How is this a lumber store but they wont cut lumber for you to size? Needed only one piece cut down and given some lame excuse about the city not letting them cut because its too dangerous. Hire competent employees and maybe you wouldnt have accidents. Will drive the extra few miles to Home Depot in the future.

This place is for when I dont want to go to Olympia. The prices are typically higher than home depot. Like 3 dollars more on a 8 foot 4x4 pressure treated post. They also do not carry metric nuts and bolts, and their selection of electrical and plumbing are significantly smaller then home depot and Lowes. They do not have alot of things needed to wire to code. Most of the tools are more expensive as well as saw blades. So in all I use them for saving time but not where I would prefer to shop.

Be careful builders first source will change there prices at their whim and while their prices are consistently higher then other places they will still try to overcharge you every chance they get. If possible try somewhere else or be prepared to be gouged.

Well stocked lumber yard. Not so good on the hardware inventory. Prices are high, but I have gone several times when I needed something in a hurry and didnt want to make the trip to a big box store.

It has most of everything I could ask for and I could ask for with the exception of the obvious with the exception of the obvious that has been sold out because of because of Corona.

I always go there to get pellets to heat house in winter and everyone of the employees are always great.

A sign out at the entrance reads:MASKS REQUIRED.We are in the throes of a pandemic, 177,000 fellow Americans have died from it. Yet at Builders 1st Choice will become my NO CHOICE for they really dont take this pandemic seriously, just a meaningless sign for to appear serious.Several employees out in the warehouse are laughing it off when I ask why their mask is below their nose and some wearing it like a chin guard. One with no visible mask said its all political BS. 1ST CHOICE allows customers to ignore the sign and walk right in to shop maskless exposing us all to a killing virus. One customer wiped his hose and touched the counter while paying.Sorry, until this is over Ill learn to mill my own 2x4sSee ya.

Excellent customer service

Absolutely, for a small-town store, their availability of product is amazing. And, their customer service is fantastic. However, be prepared to pay about 20-40% more for most things in comparison to a big-box chain store. [Purchased 10 4x4x8 and 15 2x4x8 (both treated) and 20 bags of quick-set concrete... ran me about $400 (versus $300, elsewhere).] Im still on the fence as to whether the convenience is worth the added cost.

Selection isnt overly huge, helpful store when in a pinch though. Prices are a little on the steep side compared to Home Depot and Lowes, although I understand they are big box stores. If in need of a quick fix and in no need of going to Olympia, then this place does just fine.

They are expensive but very knowledgeable and very prompt service. Staff are very helpful.I like not heaving or to wait for a long time to load because I have and injured arm and cant lift.

The cashier was good and the experience went downhill from there. The long attendant where to get our fence boards while he got our for boards and then he disappeared without getting the boards. The lot was a mess and difficult to drive through. We were left standing there with no help in sight. Will not shop there for the lumber to build our new home.

Hardware selection has always been poor but a few years ago nail bins were replaced with VERY expensive prepackaged nails in packages that are difficult to open. So the poor hardware selection has gotten worse. Update 3/23/2019, sharp drop in quality of service. Some good folks remain but others have no knowledge of hardware and one is rude and overtly hostile. If you like rude service, high prices, and poor selection, this is the place to go. Otherwise drive to Olympia.

The worst lumber yard I have ever been to! The customer service is non existent. I spent an hour looking for what I needed. Could not get a answer even when I asked the employee told me to wait and never came back. Bought some 18 shelving asked to have it cut down to fit in my car. the guy told me there only saw would not cut over 12. So I had to score the shelving and break it to get it home. If it wasnt particle board I would have been out of luck. The general attitude of the employees is go away your bothering me, not what can i do to help. If I could give it zero stars I would!

They rock and deserve a much better score than they receive. I go there almost daily and they have almost any building product I can ask for. For a small town lumber store, they knock it out of the park on the daily.

Go here if you want the thrill of being helped by someone who obviously doesnt want to be there and hates people. So smug that you cant cut it. They might not even have what you were looking for. Bring food... youll be waiting a while for the help you wont really receive.

Buyer be ware- the price on items is not what gets rung up. This has happened to me three times now on a variety of things. The price is always higher! No apologies, just silence and they change it. Always watch the price when you shop there! Must say also that prices are (excessively) higher because they know they can get away with it being the only lumber store near by. Cant wait for a Home Depot in Shelton:)

They quoted us a price over the phone of 170 for a tarp and when we went in the price became 210 pretax. Ace hardware still had it for 169. Rip off sales tactic in my opinion. The woman who was helping us was not accommodating.

Tried to return a functionally broken (Broken weld) door closer, $14.99, purchased three days earlier. A little man wearing classes was summonsed by the counter clerk and was clearly against honoring the return, saying how can I resell this when youve opened the package (sleeve)? He clearly did not want take it back and quickly turned way when I stated ...so you dont accept returns? For tunably I paid for it with a debit card an have a record of the transaction because the counter clerk kept possession of the receipt. I did inform them that I was upset as I have spent in excess of $8K with ProBuild since October 2017. Dont shoat this store if you can avoid it! They have stolen $14.99 from a long time customer that they clearly figure doesnt matter anymore.

I try to stay local, and Builders First Source helps me to do that. I find that thier selection is enough for most of my needs and the lumber yard has most everything...

The guy that helped was very pleasant and heipful.

Consistently some of the worse customer service I have ever encountered. Needed a new screen door and thought I would give the store a third chance. Seven initial phone calls, three people who all denied having any knowledge of the last and two lost information encounters. Finally ordered, it was continuously postponed in projected arrival day until I just finally cancelled order. Actually actively lied to in one of the phone encounters. Asked to speak to store manager two occasions and not available at either request. I have never bothered to fill out a review before for a business. This one is beyond the pale.
