I love Burmese food and it is so hard to find in this area. But Mandalay is delicious and a great long time establishment. Ive been coming here for over a decade and its still a favorite spot! Some of my favorites...KaYann Thee Hin - Eggplant simmered in onion base curry with cilantroThinnBawThee Thoke - Shredded papaya, cabbage, and onion, tossed with Burmese dressing, garnished with fried onion and carrots.Let Phet Thoke - Fermented tea leaf, tomato, and cabbage tossed with Burmese dressing, garnished with fried garlic and crispy yellow peas. (STILL MY FAVORITE!)Baya Gyaw Thoke (Gram Fritter Salad) - Gram fritter, tomato, cabbage, onion, and fresh cilantro tossed with Burmese dressing, garnished with fried onion and carrots.Tofu Ohnno Hin - Lightly fried tofu cooked with coconut cream curry. I always add the onion, green pepper and tomato. (Additional $1 - which is a tad silly if you ask me.) Ive tried this curry with chicken before too, the sauce is the real winner!Burmese Samosa - Potato, onion, and green peas in spring roll wrapper and deep fried triangles.Sticky Rice Dessert - Sticky rice with brown sugar and coconut.Their steamed Jasmine rice is so good. They use a good quality of rice and its a perfect chewy texture. ITS LIKE CRACK!This is a great spot for vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters. So many great options for everyone.Prices are standard.Service is excellent. There is parking on the street and in public lots.

We used to love the Burmese food at Myanmar in Falls Church. After they closed due to the pandemic, we were looking for a good Burmese place and this fit the bill. Reviews were solid, communication and customer service is top notch but the food just didnt cut it. Perhaps we were expecting the same quality as that of Myanmar. Brownie points for marking entrees clearly as vegan and vegetarian. Their hot sauce is bomb. We tried the sour mustard fried rice which is quite sour (as you could guess). We tried the tofu with coconut cream which was pretty decent and the sticky rice which was a little different than the sticky rice that you get in Thai restaurants.

If I had to rank my favorite dishes from anywhere, Mandalay would have 2 of my top 10: ginger salad and mango pork (I have to order the pork mild, because Im a wimp, but I know others who get it spicy and love it). Ive had plenty of other delicious things there too (including many vegetarian things), but those dishes are simply amazing. Also the service is quick and friendly! Im looking forward to them opening up again, but in the meantime, their take-out sustains me.

My hands-down favorite place to eat in Silver Spring, and we have some spectacular places. But Mandalay takes the cake. For those (and there are many) who are new to Burmese cuisine, let me provide you my go-to order. Start with the Burmese Ice Coffee (pictured below) and the Green Papaya Salad (also pictured below). If you have a fish or nut allergy, tell them and they can put the peanuts and fish sauce on the side. I then enjoy a main course of the pork belly with potatoes in onion curry. It’s DIVINE. For those vegetarians friends, the samosas and salads are lovely. Enjoy!

Ive come to Mandalay three times and each time it has been excellent. The food is fresh and flavorful. The dishes are familiar Asian favorites but with a Burmese twist. It makes for a unique experience, and the cherry on top is that the food is so good. Dont miss the Burmese dressing. I love that stuff.I think they could improve the quality of the interior. It comes off cheap when the quality and prices of the food arent.

Good vegan options as others have noted. I tried the green tea leaf salad, a tofu dish and the nyat kaukswe gyaw. Everything tasted yummy, and the nyat kaukswe gyaw was the standout dish for me. This place looks a little dated but the food is good. We ordered the ginger salad, samosas and Ngar Hin (fish with tomato base curry). All of our food came out fast despite it being a busy Saturday evening. If you like spice then ask for it above medium because medium spice was not spicy at all (regarding the fish dish). Even since moving away I’ve driven hours out of my way to get some LetThoke Sone or Nyat KaukSwe Gyaw. The pandemic-era takeout orders are massive, tooβ€”containers are practically bursting with fried rice that’s been jammed in there. We ordered tonight for the first time for our family of three adults, one of whom ordinarily resides in San Francisco where there’s a plethora of excellent Burmese restaurants. We were not disappointed. The famous tea leaf salad, the gram fritters, a wide rice noodle tofu dish and another tofu with veggies dish were scrumptious. But I cant pronounce nor spell them. I guess that is when you know food is authentic.) Seriously my mouth was an explosion of flavors.I seriously want to go back and their entire menu. And honestly the food is well priced. Lets be honest we pay around $10 for a fast food which is all low quality and sometimes fake food.
