Its a great little hardware store when you snap your drill bit in the middle of a project and dont want to drive to Aspen Hill for one small part. The selection is good and usually very well organized, especially considering theres a lot to fit in a small space.Usually a staff member comes by to make sure Im good, or theyve been easy to find in all but 1 of my many visits. You can generally find someone at the front right when you come in if you dont like wandering around hardware stores with your Saturday afternoon.Between the kitchen gadgets, the dremels & other tools, general loose hardware parts, and the grills you can get what you need for a range of household projects and misadventures.
Ive been dealing with Strosniders for about 15 years. Ive found them to be unfailingly polite and helpful. If a given employee doesnt have the answer, he/she knows whom to ask. They guided my steps as a new home owner and routinely have been willing to teach me about the best ways to reach my goals. Theyve even directed me to a different store if they werent able to help me. I recommend this place to every one who needs a hardware store!
Great place to find all of the random tools and parts you need to finish that repair or home improvement. So far Ive gone there for door knobs, keys, charging cables, rat poison, light bulbs, spatulas, screw drivers, etc. I even found a monkey stuffed animal there once, but it cost way too much. They have pretty much everything except for food
I have had a number of plants that I have bought from them die. I had 2 air plants which were completely rotted and I returned immediately. A succulent that I bought also died in a matter of days. Keep in mind that I had 2 amaryllis bulbs, an orchid, 3 other air plants, and 4 other succulents flourishing. So the problem clearly isnt me, but rather the complete and total neglect at this location.
Great variety for a suburban hardware store. Staff is helpful but not always the friendliest bunch. Still my go to if I know what I need to get the job done.
This was my first visit to the Silver Spring branch and I believe that I will not return. When I entered the store I asked where a particular item was located and the employee directed me to the aisle. As I was walking to the aisle I heard an announcement asking for customer assistance in the aisle I was headed to. I thought someone was coming to give me some assistance, but I soon found out that that was not the case. The employee who came simply stood at the end of the aisle and watched what I was doing. My guess is he was making sure I didnt steal anything because if he was actually there to help me why wouldnt he come up to me and ask me if I needed some help? This entire experience was very uncomfortable and humiliating for me. I was annoyed that both employees decided that I looked like I was a thief. My look isnt going to change anytime soon, so I can only assume that this treatment will be repeated. Even though they appear to be well stocked with decent prices I cannot return there to be treated the same way.
Strosniders has yet to let me down. Bravo! When I needed para. moth balls for beekeeping, they had them. When I needed lye for soap-making, they had that too! I feel confident that if I need a hard to find product that they are my store.
Ive been going to Strosniders in Silver Spring for 12 years, and today had a very frustrating experience. In general, the store has a wide variety of Items for sale, everything from department store stuff to hardware. But today, I found out that they will not cut a car key blank that you bring in yourself. Their explanation is an illogical mishmash of excuses about not being able to guarantee that the keys will work, and not being able to replace them. However, theyre happy to cut a blank that they sell you. If youre in desperate need of something, and cant wait for Amazon, they have a decent selection, but not cheap prices.
Has everything a lay person could ever need. No need to go to Home Depot. They could be friendlier.
This store has so much great stuff and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly
Good local hardware store. You have a chance to find needed without spending an hour over internet. Please note that place is a Benjamin Moore BM dealer, they dont carry SW paint. Also the store shares parking with Whole Foods so plan accordingly.
I give this store mixed reviews after shopping there for many years. Sometimes the staff is helpful and on other occasions arrogant and dismissive. Recently, when trying to price some confusingly labeled items, I was told to take them all to the cashier myself and return what I didnt want to the shelves myself. On another visit this summer to buy grass seed, I was near a confused woman also getting seed who was given blatantly bad advice by a dismissive sales person. When I questioned his recommendation, he said he was the expert and said I didnt know what I was talking about and should butt out. As I said, mixed results shopping at this store.
This is a great place to find stuff to finish weekend projects or repair emergencies. They dont have the selection of a Home Depot or Lowes and in particular lack the space for big things like lumber but they have plenty of hardware, electrical, and plumbing. The store is small but packed ceiling to floor and the staff actually knows where to find things.
Old fashioned assistance and courtesy with superb stock and decent pricing. A great hardware store.
I stopped in with my two young children to purchase some birdseed to make holiday ornaments. Three sales associates passed me and without saying hello or offering help, as we were unfamiliar where the item might be located. When we finally did, the price tags seemed jumbled and upon checking out I realized that was not the bag I needed. I said to the older woman who was ringing up our purchase I though I grabbed the $8.99 bag, the pricing is a bit confusing, and she snidely responded Well its 13.99. I said, in a kinder tone, The items on that aisle are mislabeled, and I couldnt find anyone to help me but I would prefer the cheaper bag, and her response again was Well, its 13.99. I stood there for a second looking at her and then said Okay, well then Ill go ahead and go back and try to figure out which one it is. At this point our young son was getting tired and started to cry. Three more associates passed me as I explained to our four year old daughter that I was having trouble finding the right product.Still, no help.We took our business elsewhere but I would highly suggest to people in the customer service industry to seek another field if they do not, in fact, want to help their customers.
Great hardware store in a good location. Friendly service and very informative employees.
Although finding parking in shared lot with a handful of other businesses including Whole Foods can be daunting, Strosniders is a great local hardware store. Every time I shop there (even on busy weekends!), the staff have been friendly and knowledgeable in helping me find the products to solve whatever home-improvement problem I had. Most recently, I went there to find a small pot for a plant. I came across the aisle with the WD-40, which reminded me of that darned drawer that made a horrible squeak whenever I opened it. I asked the staff for help on that and he recommended lube stick. Lo and behold - it worked! No more squeaky drawer. Much better recommendation than from the person at the giant home improvement center. Thanks, guys!
Its nice because you can buy whatever you need. You need to look by yourself what do you need! Nobody help me.
Very convenient, on the expensive side but they have interesting and high quality products. When I dont want to take the 15-minute ride to Home Depot its a wonderful option.
Terrible, terrible, terrible! The worst hardware store ever. I decided this is the last day I get sent to an aisle to wait for one of their associates to come help me. I waited for 15 minutes and no one ever came -- not even the lady who sent me there came to see if I received help. This is the third time this has happened to me in this location. Thats really bad, since Ive only been in that store four times in my life. You dont have to worry about me coming back. (P.S. Read your reviews Strosniders. People are not happy.)
Hard to believe this wonderful hardware store is in MD, the people are so helpful and friendly!
Very pleasant place. Well stocked with knowledgeable employees.
First review ever here. Have had multiple bad experiences at this location. The short chubby guy that is almost bald who has worked there for eight years needs to learn how to properly interact with customers. Because hes a dick.
Got perfect key cut for copy of my car key. Moderately large store in the heart of downtown silver spring.
For some reason they refuse to duplicate keys if you have your own blanks. Considering they dont carry my motorcycle key (because no one does, you have to special order them), I see no good excuse for this. Home Depot and my girlfriends local Ace Hardware have no problem with it.Admittedly a small issue, but an annoying one because it threw a wrench in my afternoon plans, for no apparent reason. I ended up choosing not to buy the other things I needed either, since they didnt want my business.2 stars instead of 1 because at least they were up front about their policy and didnt jerk me around.
You can find what u need and if u cant they will help u great customer service and very helpful
Ive had numerous good dealings at this local store - but last week the store manager, Jerry, refused a return of a snow shovel saying the item was damaged. If it is damaged, it was bought damaged. I ended up buying another shovel at the store and my wife contacted Ace hardware to seek assistance. Always try to support local businesses, but Jerry is making that difficult. He should put someone else as the customer service person.
Well stocked and if they dont have what youre looking for, they get it in a timely manner
Dont go to Home Depot or Loews. Strosniders is the best hardware store in the area, hands down. Their employees actually know what they are talking about, and this place is rarely crowded.
I go to this small hometown hardware store because of its location, less than 10 minute walk for me. and I can usually find what I need there...HOWEVER, the ladies at the cash registers, if you dont like people, please dont get a job where you great people and work with people! Say hello and smile for goodness sakes! if it wasnt because of the location, location, location, i wouldnt go back there. geeze. this one chick had her phone out and acted like I interrupted her when I wanted to be checked out!!!!! seriously!
A lawnmower there was more than 50% more than at other stores. For the exact same model.
Convenient location and knowledgeable staff, but you will pay premium for not having to drive to Home Despot
Have been going to this store for years, used to be Strosniders (before) becoming a combo of Stros&Ace. Thos small, compact &extremely well organized, the service is awesome, personnel were very knowledgeable, they kept it that way, even with the changes. Tho Id noticed slight change, generally the cashiers are not as receptive or friendly, helpful as previous Strosniders alone. They still stay true to the philosophy of no-upselling, especially if its a simple fix. Recently rented the steam/water carpet cleaner. I wanted a clean, no bug, well maintained and was very happy with the outcome. Look for Roy and/Terry if in doubt. They run a tight ship. I like that especially when you have limited time.
My favorite hardware store. Helpful folks and they nearly always have what I need.
Helpful staff. Not always the best pricing, but quality selection.
Good place for getting advice on projects and finding hardware items not always available at Home Depot.
Great selection of the nicer things and the staff knows their stuff
Its close but you pay for convenience.
One can usually find what is needed, as well as a person to help you find it easily.
The store is well stocked. But dome of the staff appear racist and dont appear to like LGBT, people either...😭
Overpriced undereducated about store products & Bad customer Service from two ladies at cash register. Next time Id rather go elsewhere for better service.
Youd think a hardware store would be open shortly after a big snowstorm, but Strosniders was not open, and did not even post a sign as to when theyd reopen. This is the only place in downtown SS that sells shovels, salt, etc. The CVS next door was open, so why not Stros? On a normal visit, they have a decent selection, though most (but not all) staff there are unfriendly and unhelpful. If I need help, I often have trouble finding an available staff member, and when I do, most of the time they just tell me approximately where to find something instead of actually showing me. Their prices are always higher (sometimes substantially) than Home Depot or Lowes. Disappointing.
Well stocked, very organized and the associates are very helpful.
Well organized and very helpful staff
Good selection of merchandise, and very helpful staff!
Dont answer their phones till like 830 bums
Doesnt sell plants despite being a garden center
I cannot fine for was I was looking for.
Always helpful 😊

A great experience
A real hardware store
Have what you need, when you need it.
