First time visitor to the store and the staff was awesome, very friendly and helpful. My daughter and i decided to do a little down town shopping and we are glad we stopped in. They found the right sizes for my daughter and she loved the clothes. High quality stuff and not over priced. We really enjoyed the shopping experience.
We LOVE this store, we could spend hours just browsing. Fun place for cool gift ideas, they carry top-tier brands in most outdoor equipment and have some extremely nice outdoor clothing. This is NOT a discount store. However, the materials feel wonderful, they are very well made, and often the same products professionals use and/or have tested.There IS, however, a clearance section upstairs where the discontinued models and styles land. I tried on and purchased my very first pair Patagonia Drifters (now discontinued) from the clearance area (last seasons colors I think). They became my FAVORITE shoes and I have been buying them used (in my size, of course) whenever I happen across some.Final thought: While some of the merchandise may be pricy, remember its quality and made to withstand the outdoors!
The two guys working tonight we’re super nice. They stayed way after closing to help us try on many different pairs of shoes and had an amazingly positive attitude. Very knowledgeable too!

Best outdoor shop i have been too. Its smaller than the big box stores but better, they have everything you could possibly need, including knowledgeable staff ready to help. The manager was a big help in helping me find the perfect sleeping pad and butane canisters for my backpacking journey out west. Talked with the owner for a bit too about local trails to hit in the badlands, who was very informative! If you are in South Dakota you have to shop here! -Jared
Went to find some boots for hiking, the staff was extremely helpful in helping me try things on and being knowledgeable about what they are selling. Definitely recommend for any of your camping, hiking, or outdoor clothing needs.
What a great little shop. I went in looking for a solid pair or daily shoes/boots. I am very hard on shoes and I find that outdoors and hiking boots tend to last the longest. The woman who helped me was very knowledgeable and helpful in finding what I needed, even though I am a bit vague. They had a tight selection but everything I could ask for at the same time. Almost went for a pair of Danners but they didnt have it in bigfoot size so they had me try a keen and a oboz. They unfortunately didnt have a wide model oboz in stock or I would have been sold, that said the keens are great. Later that day I ended up stopping back in after darn tough socks recommended I could buy a pair locally at thier shop, to my joy they had the socks and a couple other interesting things. I will be back, and if you are in need of outdoor apparel I suggest you give them a shot.
The thing I truly appreciate about this place is their love for the community of Sioux Falls. From doing demonstrations at local high schools, hosting events with free food, showing films, or providing educational opportunities, the Great Outdoor Store has truly grown over my lifetime into something unique and worth recognizing. If you have the opportunity check out their events or activities, do it! They are fun and worth it every time! And if you have questions about gear, this is your local place to stop in and ask.

Needed shoes, they recommended some, didnt have them in stock, ordered them, next week get text theyre in, go in and get my shoes fitted with machine and am on my way. Great, helpful people workin here. Highly recommend if looking for quality, albeit expensive, items.

This place has fantastic sales. I was in town for work and popped in. I had ordered a mens insulated quandary jacket from patagonia that was due to deliver in a couple days. I purchased it from Patagonia website for $299. And I got it on sale at this store for $179. I did an absolute double take and will be sending my order back to Patagonia. Thanks for the great deal!

Expect to pay for the kinds of brands you find here, but there is some price relief in their clearance room at the top of the stairs. Theres an awesome selection of outdoor gear. They have a lot of Fjallraven (one if my favorite brands), Patagonia, and other quality brands. The staff seem friendly and helpful. They so have free parking for customers if youre driving. Very nice find downtown Sioux Falls!

Love the store for the events they host. We went on Sherpa night and it was awesome. Thats where I had Nepali food for the first time and Im hooked. The prices of their merch are a little higher but the quality is very good.

Always a good place to pick up what you need for hiking and rock climbing adventures in the plains and out to the Black Hills and the bluffs near the rivers.Some say it is spendy, but when you check the warranties on the outer wear, it can be well worth the cost.
