Good cappuccino but both times I went there the baristas attitude was downright hostile. She completely ruins the atmosphere and I will never to back because she was so nasty.
Really good coffee and amazing cookies. One of the coffees I had in Alaska
If it wasn’t for the coffee being good I would give this place 2 stars, strictly on friendliness and service. This was the first place my friend and I chose to go in Sitka and it was the worst experience we had while there. The 2 ladies that were working that day were EXTREMELY rude and when we said thank you to the lady who gave us our coffee she said NOTHING. Speaking to locals in the area i guess this is the norm for this lady but if that’s the case she shouldn’t be in customer service. Employees like that make a good business look bad and for both her and the other ladies attitude, we did not give them our business for the rest of our trip. There are several other good coffee places in the area with very nice employees. Such a shame.
Good coffee, nice selection of baked items. No wifi.
I am not one for coffee but the cookies and pastries are amazing.
Soteras lavender lattes are incredible! 💜
My favorite place for coffee in Sitka. Go there!
Great coffee and baked goods 👌
Small and quaint.
Was a little hard to find, but delicious coffee & almond scone. Fast friendly service.
After finding no decent coffee on a cruise, Back Door was heaven sent. Cool quaint book store in front also. Staff seemed friendly enough 😁
Step one: buy yourself an awesome book in the bookstore. Step two: walk through and then treat yourself to some of their amazing coffee and a snack. I had the flourless chocolate chip and oat cookie; so tasty and fresh! Id have loved to spend more time here just sitting, reading a book and enjoying my coffee, it just feels so relaxing!

Everyone is nice that is behind the counter. Their deserts are really good, and the reason they deserve 5 stars. Definitely worth a visit. Their pie is fantastic and my wife really likes the scones.
My idea of a great coffee shop. Barista pulled an excellent double shot, the pecan bar was like crack, and there was a quirky literary journal waiting on the table for me to browse.
My kind of coffee! But I am picky. I hate Starbucks because it always tastes a bit burnt to me ( not that Sitka has one - thank god) The Back Door is like an extension of the book store so how perfect is that ! Their pies are awesome, along with dandy treats and daily lunch specials. I’ve never had a lunch I didn’t like !!!
Hot damn if this place doesnt have some delicious bagels that they make in house. Dont wait too long because I hear they run out, but they usually arent ready until a half hour to an hour after they open. Coffee and service was good, but it was mainly about those delicious bagels. Ive heard delicious things about the other baked goods as well and I plan on trying them (and more bagels) next time Im in Sitka.
Amazing coffee, friendly staff and room for waking up that seems both communal and private at the same time.
This is a great place that places you with the natives of Sitka. I was even able to observe a group there to get the vote out for an upcoming local election. Everything here is prepared the same day. Once the food is gone, its gone. Get there early for lunch.
The regular coffee was hot and fresh. The ginger bread was delicious.
We stopped for a quick visit as my brother-in-law stated this one of his favourite places to visit while in Sitka, Millie and I loved the place. Quiet, great food and a bookstore that kept us browsing for longer than we planned. We ate, bought a few books and added The Back Door to our list of places to revisit.
Mocha was delicious, lemon blueberry pastry too!
Love the service everyone is nice and the food and drinks are incredible
Everytime I visit the Back Door its like family, super inviting and food/drinks are always on point, absolutely love this place..
My favorite type of espresso cafe: good espresso, connected to an excellent, local bookstore.
Good Carrot cake.
Great coffee hidden in the back room of a book store. Could have a little better selection of baked goods, but otherwise, great.
This is my favorite lunchtime coffee shop in Sitka. Staff are wonderful and they make delicious food and mochas. The atmosphere is friendly and I almost always see people I know.
Good espresso. Lovely atmosphere.
Sitka surprise: espresso coffee culture in Oz is significant, so finding Back Door came as a very nice surprise to meet our espresso coffee needs.
When I need a good 16oz. (and I mean good) triple shot moca w/ hazelnut the back door is my stop.
Very, very good. I especially like the chocolate chip cookies. : ) The challah there is excellent, too.
Kitschy, homey, eclectic. Great cuppa and pastries. Cool decor
Great classic coffee shop with very good coffee and very tasty pastries. Opens at 6:30 AM as well.
Great fresh bagels, pies, coffee, and other pastries here. Homey atmosphere and personable workers.
No sandwiches. Coffee & treats. Local haunt. Enjoy!
Backdoor is a completely unique establishment. Resides in one of the most pristine small towns worldwide. Employs friendly skilled baristas, bakers, and chefs to serve the picky tastes of Sitka, Alaska without issue. As a Sitkan myself, I have a special love for this place and its long time standing here with us. With fulfill all your coffee needs along with a delicious single item for lunch and delicious pastries or breads baked fresh the same day! Family-friendly, full of culture and a town favorite.
Some of the best pies I have ever had.
Great coffee, relaxing atmosphere. Tasty Chai Tea. (No other foods served though)
Right out the back door of the Sitka Pioneers Home is my personal favorite coffee shop in the entire World. It makes my visits to my Mom and Dad at SPH really special. Great pastries, excellent coffee, cosy, homegrown atmosphere.Thank you for being there - thank you for the wonderful service and delicious coffee pastries and food.
Hidden gem in Sitka. Opens early. Great service and delicious fresh baked pastries.
We wandered into the Back Door Cafe on a blustery morning in August and were greeted with great coffee and delicious breakfast berry bars. When in Sitka, this will be my place to stop for breakfast.
Great spot for coffee and a yummy treat.
The food and drink is spectacular
Great coffee and sweet morning treats.
My favorite coffe stop! I absolutely love the menu and the great service.
Nice quiet coffee shop behind a book store.
Great local hangout, wish they had WiFi though!
We were going to sample every coffee shop in Sitka (because); but having found this, we have come twice a day for the incredible pies, the atmosphere, the friendly staff, and great, great lattes!
Super cool and cozy shop
Best coffee in Sitka, hands down. If you get there while cinnamon rolls are being made, do yourself a favor and buy ALL OF THEM
Good coffee, better desserts and food
Cold brew was nothing but coffee ground sludge. Not sure if they dont know how to make cold brew or the batista just didnt realize that the dregs are unfit for human consumption but it was nothing but silt. Tossed it after second sip.
Nice people, relaxed environment.
Friendly staff and yummy lattes
Cute and great coffee
Homemade pastries, yummy
Centrally located try it !!
Great coffee sis
Line management is not great 😭😭
Homey, great drinks
Good coffee, good atmosphere

Love the pasta!
Loved it!
Great!
Love it
Cozy
The back of a beautiful bookcase hides this coffee, not too small, which serves tea, coffee and chocolate in beautiful assorted cups and excellent puff pastries and cookies, with a nice background of Red Hot Chili Peppers. What we would call a hipster place, but for me it deserves ten praise for the atmosphere.
