Amazing, low key. The owner actually is on site and a real person you want to chat with; he explained the available drafts and the beer I had was perfect. Not too bitter, not too sweet. Comfortable, tucked away off the main street (41st) brewery worth visiting regularly.

By far the best beer in Santa Cruz. They have very well made and unique beers and plenty of top tier staples. The only complaint is that their AMAZING red IPA isnt year round like their phenomenal rye IPA. They have excellent food too so dont waste your time going anywhere else in Santa Cruz for beer

I love Discretion! Great beers. Tasty food. Good service. And the environment is amazing too. They are one of those good for all type of place and that is always nice. It is a kid friendly, dog friendly, loud conversation and laughs friendly too.Discretion is a family owned business. They rotate some of their amazing crafted beers so chances are you may find new ones from time to time. The food here is delicious. It is farm to table and unique. Really good combinations and flavors.

Reminds me of my favorite breweries in Colorado (o’dell and avery) Great sips and delicious food. Definitely won the hearts of two Colorado gals. The brownie was also pretty tasty. Beer was very good. Food was not your typical brewery food, but had excellent flavor. I would go back to try another item or two, but not a place I would visit often. You order from the counter and have to transport your own food. This can be difficult since the place is small and you have to squeeze between tables. Prices are high but that could be because I am from Oregon and everything is expensive here.

Visited the brewery a week ago and sampled eight different beers. Most were above average. We liked Good Faith and Scenic Stout the best. Especially the barrel age Good Faith. We also tried three of their morsels dishes. The sugar snap peas and bok choy were good. The chili popcorn was way to oily. We couldn’t finish it. We will definitely visit again when we visit Santa Cruz area.

Although I am a fan of the brewery, I am more of a fan of the kitchen there! Since I hv moved back home from LA, its bn very hard to find food that tickles my pallet. My gosh does the chef do that for me-- especially with my heart that I miss so much-- their ramen. Hands down best in SC for distinctive flavor. I watched from outside as he prepared my order, the chef meticulously seasoned separately every single addition to the soup, making sure every ingredient had its flavor sing. If u love soup, this is for you, with a spicy sidekick thatll keep u coming back for more, Enjoy!

Chill spot if youre in the neighborhood. My go to when i car wash or have to drop the car at g Toyota. 4 star rating since tap beer served in plastic cups. Whaaat? Whyyy? Actually, dont care why. Wasteful and not quite a classy feel. Respect your beer. Pour into glasses. Perceived value is actually worth something. You should pride your product more blatantly. Cause its good

Becoming a local favorite over the past several years. Family owned and operated, Discretion offers exquisitely crafted organic beers, harvesting sustainable solar energy to power the brewing operations. Not only are the beers thoughtfully crafted and delicious, their food is notable in its own right. Not being satisfied with your average pub fair, the Discretion family forged a perfect compliment to their organic beer. Shortly after opening, the chef-inspired Kitchen at Discretion was born, featuring a seasonally changing farm-to-table organic menu.- Ride the Redwoods | Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Tour Guides

Taking a break from making wine at Villa del Monte Winery, Suzanne & I visited Discretion Brewing on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered a sampler to figure out what to order. She went with the Shimmer Pils Pilsner (naturally). I ended up on the Foggy Forest IPA.She got a Caesar salad and I got the grits and greens (with pork belly). Her only gripe on the Caesar was that the lettuce pieces were enormous! Most were whole, so there was absolutely no way to eat it without looking like a slob (or cutting them up yourself)... Cant they tear the lettuce in the kitchen? My grits and greens were VERY good. A little spicy and very creamy. Definitely go for the pork belly. It makes the dish... Being from Georgia (and having livedd there, Alabama, Louisiana, & Texas) before settling in the Santa Cruz Mountains. They know how to do their grits. Super creamy...

Come for the beer, stay for the food. Discretion has a small selection of home brewed beers on tap that change regularly. The menu changes regularly as well. Highly recommend!

The Kitchen is some of the best food in a 100 mile radius (=including SF) —99% percentile, not exaggerating. From the Bay Area and come to Santa Cruz often and always eat here and at La Posta. Santos makes the best Caesar salad I’ve ever had in my life and his rotating menu is inventive (so accept room for error), fresh, and expertly executed. He is a totally brilliant chef that works out of about 50sq ft. and this is probably the best food spot in the state you can walk in to with shorts and a tank top. Discretion Beers are decent too.

Awesome micro-brewery with amazing food and beers!! Loved the barrel-aged scenic stout as well as the salted caramel stout. They have several seasonal beers, so Id definitely come back to try some others!Since this place is mainly known for their beer, I was pleasantly surprised that the food was also top-notch, even with a teeny tiny kitchen. The risotto (with kale, mushrooms, and more) as amazing. The ribs were a delicious mix of citrus and peppercorn flavors that complimented the pork very nicely. Also loved the truffle popcorn that surprisingly didnt have that pungent flavor of truffle oil!Staff were really warm and friendly, which made sitting at the bar pretty chill and easy-going. Love the decor, schwag for sale, and the creatively decorated beer logos.

This local brewery produces great beer and even better food. Good breweries are plentiful in Santa Cruz, but great food is hard to find. This out of the way brewery-barn hidden behind a furniture store on 41st Avenue is an oasis. The tiny kitchen run by Santos Majano produces the best Cesar salad I have found outside of San Francisco. The beer friendly fare is organic, locally sourced and inspiring. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable. This brewery might just be the best restaurant in Santa Cruz.

Meh. The beers were just ok. Theyre trying too hard to create something unique. The staff were non responsive- I stood in order here line for a long time before someone made eye contact. Dont bother with ordering food as its overpriced and guessing it was yesterdays cook as it tasted tired. Small amounts for brewery fare. And what happened to happy hour prices.

Nice brewery and great beers. Lots of beers to choose from and the food is fantastic. The brewery doesnt face the main road 41ist, but I found it easily with the Google GPS. Very bright and cheerful atmosphere, I was in 7/4/18, and luckily they were open. I had a delicious Saison and relaxed for a bit before heading to my motel to check in. Very reasonable prices, my beer was $6, I thought it was happy hour, but that was the normal price. High ceilings, to accommodate the brewery facilities, clean and well decorated, with a modern feel, dont pass this establishment up if youre into great beer!

What a great place awesome delicious food beer and atmosphere . Had the beet salad, super tasty and stylishly plated. Uncle Daves Rye IPA very good as well. Id give it a 4.9 overall but what brought it down a notch was unlike most restaurants of this caliber where you order your food and drink enjoy it and the atmosphere and then get the bill pay it and tip for good service. Here at Discretion as soon as you order you either immediatley have to provide your credit card to run a tab and or pay up front. The staff suggested that they have had problems in the past with payment ? But what restaurant hasnt ?I dunno it put me off a bit. Just a little bit though as all else was excellent.

Discretion Brewery is the best in town. I’m a former SC resident turned NYC resident but I chose to have my wedding in Capitola as it is awesome. We wanted to keep everything in SC as much as possible, including beer. We tried SO many beers and decided to use Discretion. We ordered a couple, Good Faith strong ale & Foggy Forest IPA and we were so happy with our choice. The food there is so good too. It’s simply a nice atmosphere. The people working there are super nice and unpretentious. There are other breweries in the area who think too highly of themselves and it was refreshing to work with down to earth people. We liked them so much that we gave them our coveted donut leftovers from Dunlaps when we returned the pony kegs.

It’s hard to enjoy the food listening to the chef’s insults and demeaning comments to his staff. The verbal abuse is incredible, no wonder the morale is so low. Poor people that have to listen to this guy tirades, he must think he’s chef Ramsey and that it’s cool to treat the staff this way. ):
