Very good. I’ve not had Texas BBQ, but it was explained to me by a customer who is, it’s just Meat salt and pepper. The cracked pepper flavor was very prevalent, luckily I like black pepper. Flavors were good, burnt ends were nice and tender. The jalapeño cheese corn was freaking fire- like I mean spicy AF. I love spicy and wasn’t expecting something claiming to be hot actually being hot. Four stars just because lunch was $50. Two sandwiches, two cokes and split a side. Ouch. Pretty pricey…

I have never had Texas BBQ before yesterday. Man I like it!! Went to lunch with my beautiful wife after mass on Sunday. We were greeted as soon as we walked through the door. The man who took and prepared our order was very helpful and nice. We were going to set outside so as we waited for our food I walked through the restaurant. It was very clean, inside and out. We did not wait 5 minutes for our food. We choose a table outside and pulled our food out of the bag. My wife had the burnt end sandwich. The burnt ends were perfect. I had the Sweaty Texan sandwich. It had brisket and Texas hot links. I was very pleased. We shared a medium jalapeño cheesy corn. It was delicious but it does have some heat. I will return.

As a Missouri native and Texas transplant, I can say this is some of the best Texas style BBQ I have had outside of Texas, and on par with many highly-ranked places in Texas. We had the brisket, and it did not disappoint. A little heavy on the pepper, but otherwise was great; simple, moist, perfect level of smoke. The house BBQ sauce was also great, a perfect hybrid between a sweet & smoky Midwest sauce and a tangy, tomato based Texas sauce. Arrived at opening and there wasnt a long line, but we did overhear another customer coming back after being too late for ribs that sold out at 1pm on a last visit. The sign says 11AM-sold out, and no doubt its worth showing up early for.

This has got to be one of the better places for BBQ in Springfield. Each bite tasted hot and fresh. The meat was so soft that the flavor melted in your mouth. The line was a bit long, but once you place your order it comes out speedy quick. The restaurant also has an air filtration system, another plus.

I showed up about 20 minutes before close, and all that was left was brisket and ribs. I knew then that this was the place to be! I got a brisket sandwich and coleslaw and potato salad (the only sides left). One bite and I could understand how they were sold out. Its DELICIOUS! Generous amount of meat on my sandwich, and the Carolina Mustard sauce is LEGIT! So happy the guy behind the counter recommended it. Amazing place, great food, and easy to find!

Maybe they were having an off day. They were out of brisket and ribs at 2 PM, which I understand for a BBQ joint. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and it wasnt all completely tender, but flavorful. They had BOGO on sausages. Potato salad needed additional seasoning, but corn side was good. Staff was very friendly.

Best barbecue Ive had in Springfield. We tried the burnt ends, the brisket and the jalapeno and cheddar sausage. They were all delicious and mouthwatering. The burnt end might have been the best Ive ever had. The sauces were all tasty, I think the house BBQ sauce had the most flavor, and my partner was more fond of the mustard but they were all wonderful. Oh and the coleslaw was amazing as well. Staff was friendly and service was fast. Would definitely visit again, 4 out of 5 because it was a touch expensive.

Holy potatoes, this is tasty! The tenderness, the color, the loads of pepper- Isnt it just shameful how many BBQ places skimp on the pepper? Its practically free! -and no excess of salt, the tenderness, the sauces, the potato salad, the tenderness . . . Are you noticing a pattern? We had pork ribs that were perfect and a burnt tips sandwich that was even better. It wasnt even like eating meat; it was more like eating a meat-flavored cloud.Service was spectacular! Friendly, personable, really giving that I work here to serve people, not just move objects feeling, real people.Prices at all of the local BBQ places stay pretty evenly competitive, so yes, its pricier than some other meals, but also filling, healthy, and super tasty, so worth it.Its also a nice, clean, fresh atmosphere, not only in appearance (which is pretty sweet on its own, honestly), but they have a good HEPA filter that gave me a rare break from my allergies. These guys are, as the saying goes, the boss. Enjoy!

I had the burnt ends sandwich. Very good burnt ends. Side of potato salad. Good! Nothing special about the bun. Menu seems strange. It starts of with meats by the pound as if setup for catering more than a restaurant. Because of this prices appear real high! Its alecarte. So, when you see the price of the sandwich you think ok it must come with a couple of sides. Nope! Its high. Disappointed theres no sampler platter. Read the menu before you go. Especially if you have kids. But, good meat.

After an hour not feeling as bad but took several pieces of gum to get after taste out of our mouths. Was all we could do not to tell people placing their orders to maybe try another BBQ place instead of this one. By their reviews it looked like the place to eat BBQ. Hopefully their not caring over leftovers for several days and reheating them. Good luck to the next customers and hope your experience isn’t as bad as ours !

I had the burnt ends sandwich, coleslaw, and a half link of sausage. It was all incredible. Burnt ends were crunchy on the outside and succulent on the inside, the coleslaw had a bit of mustard seed added in which was unexpected but now the only way I want to have coleslaw. The house barbecue sauce for dipping was tangy and sharp, but it honestly wasnt even needed because of how flavorful everything was. The sausage was almost buttery in the best way. It was rather expensive, but you could tell that the expense went straight into the quality of the meat and sides. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone passing through that has a chance to try it.

Their pork belly is also amazing as are the sausages my favorite sandwich here is the city smokestack it has a little taste of everything. Today I tried the Turkey and it was good as well. The young lady serving was sweet, kind and helpful. The meat was ordinary at best. The cheesy corn was all jalapeño and corn.....not very cheesy...far too spicy...and I love spicy. And the only flavor of the beans was nothing but hot (jalapeño?). This place is literally too good for Springfield haha, they should move down to Dallas wink, wink haha. I loved everything I tried there, I had the pork belly, texas sausage, burnt ends, brisket, potato salad and beans. The burnt ends were AMAZING and the potato salad was great as well, I was eating it trying to figure out how to steal the recipe! The beans are texas style and made with pinto beans and were great. I am a huge fan of BBQ, having a number of BBQ set ups myself, so when I came to Springfield on a recent business trip I decided to look into the local BBQ joints. And there are a number of them, but I settled in on City Butcher. Let me say, the BBQ here is excellent. I arrived after the lunch rush and unfortunately the pork belly was already sold out, so I got a 1/4 pound of everything else they had. It was impressive. The brisket was spot on, sliceable, but tender and juicy. The turkey was firm, smokey, and moist. The burnt ends were heavily seasoned with salt, pepper, and smoke. Almost jerky like with a very assertive flavor. Even the pulled pork, a rather simple item to prepare and a hard one to screw up, exhibited a smokiness and juiciness that was noticeably better than most BBQ restaurants.Location is inside a strip mall. Not the greatest, but I guess you do what you have to do. Counter service is friendly. Reminiscent of old-school Texas markets, there is no set menu - everything is basically a la carte.

I had City Butcher again recently, and I have had it enough times at this point that I felt like I could leave an honest review. (I dont leave bad reviews lightly.) I really dont understand why its as well reviewed as it is. I have had the brisket and the pulled pork multiple times. The brisket has overwhelmingly tasted like black pepper each time, and I can think at least a couple of other local BBQ places that have much more savory and flavorful pulled pork. The slaw, potato salad, and baked beans just dont taste very good, in my opinion. I generally consider barbecue as something I will like no matter what... So I am surprised by how much I dont care for their food.

The meats, with the exception of sausage, was very good. The ribs were dry rub style, tender and good, not spicy, flavor. The meat in the beans was exceptionally good. The beans themselves had additional onions and spices. The potato salad was not to our taste, and seemed to lack mustard. The sauces were good, and the spicy was sufficient for those that require heat. The pulled pork sandwich was very good and satisfying. Dont be fooled by the apparent size. We shared 1 and saved 1 for tomorrow. Im sorry I cant recommend the sausage. The ends cant be eaten, and must be cut. The flavor is ok, just not what is generally expected. The meat here is a perfect 10. I got the pork belly and brisket sandwich. It had amazing flavor and the house bbq sauce made it even better. My husband got the hot links and brisket sandwich which he loved. I personally didnt care for the hot links but then again I almost never do. My husband loves that kind of stuff and he loved them so I say go for it. I will say that you should only go here for the meat. The potato salad was very average and didnt have much flavor or character. The baked beans I liked even less. They had a lot of smoky flavor but lacked an adequate amount of molasses. They were also a bit watery for my liking. Save some money and just order a side of the meat or a sandwich. The best part is all the meat they make can be ordered by the pound (or any other amount you want) and taken home. I think in the future I may do something like that. If you arent sure where to start just go for the brisket. Its some of the best we have ever tried. I only gave this place 4 instead of 5 stars because the side dishes just arent very good.
