Maddy did my color correction this last week. She is absolutely amazing. I’ve never loved my hair more!
If you want a great priced balayage and an amazing result, definitely check out Ultas salon! I personally had Ashley Musser, who is AMAZING. She is the sweetest person, and not only did she do a great job, but she put up with me for 3.5 hours (when its supposed to be around 2.5) PLUS stayed after closing for me. I previously went to Looks Hair Design for a haircut and thought about getting my hair dyed there too, but decided to come here because it is almost half the price, and I cannot say enough how happy I am that I did! I will definitely come back to Ashley for all my hair needs, but everyone here was super friendly and I would definitely trust with my hair.
Super knowledgeable staff and friendly too. Saved the day in the salon with a hair fix before prom when another salon failed to do the updo as wanted. Some good sales going on and a wide selection of off-season merchandise in the clearance section. Lots of hand sanitizing stations around the store. Masking clearly relaxed in the store at this point.
Love their selection of brands they offer! Some of their employees could be nicer, but that will differ from location to location. Overall, you should be able to find everything you’ll need, beauty wise, at Ulta! Love how they offer drug-store products, all the way to high-end products!
Absolutely great. Im a guy and I was trying to start a skin care routine, but I was worried about going to a place like Ulta because I would feel awkward in there and I had no idea what to get. But, in I went. I figured I could just pick up a few things and try them out, but I ended up asking Olivia for help in finding something. Once it was clear I really didnt know what I was doing, she asked me a few questions about what I was looking for, my skin type, and preferences. Then she just grabbed a basket, and went around the store with me, making recommendations and putting stuff in the basket. She was absolutely great and made me feel welcomed. Definitely going to return here for any other skincare products I need.
I went to the state college ulta location today just to pick up some shampoo and foundation. I was browsing the store, and a gentleman by the name of Matt, asked if he could help me with anything. I told him I was looking to try a new foundation and told him my likes and dislikes about what I was currently using. He pointed me in the direction of a brand he thought would work best, that I actually had my eye on myself. He asked me many questions, and gave me the best color match for my skin. After the many times of being to this particular location, I have NEVER received such great help and kindness in the store. Matt shared useful knowledge about the products I was using and was completely unbothered with giving me assistance, which I can’t say is something I often see in the store! Kudos to this young man for being so knowledgeable in his work and so happy, kind and outgoing to customers in the store!
Always a great experience at this location. Wonderful salon staff.
Associate sold a product they knew wasn’t the correct product - they even commented to one another that people were complying but when I asked what they were referring to they said “oh nothing” - took it back and nothing was done to completely resolve this customer service opportunity. 😊
ROBIN IS A QUEENNNN !!!! By far my favorite employee that works at Ulta! So sweet, hypes you up, and is overall amazing! My experience was lovely solely because of her!
Had been going to the salon at Ulta for the past few years. The last few times I took the plunge to play around with my hair color and every time I left extremely disappointed. I never felt like my stylist worked with me on my hair goals and ended up just doing whatever she wanted. For the price and positive opinion from the staff of the particular stylist I saw, I would have expected better. Ended up going to a local salon this time around and had a significantly more positive experience. Shame because I loved earning rewards and supporting Ulta for all my beauty needs.
Fabulous and helpful staff! Thank you so much 🥰 youre beautiful!
Ive shopped here on-and-off over the past several years and Ive always had a positive experience with every visit. Employees were friendly and helpful, and I appreciate that they sanitize the registers between every customer.
Very helpful and friendly staff member! She searched the store to find the exact Clinique Happy Set I was looking for. Perfect Christmas gift!
Terrible experience. 😡. I had an expensive bottle of perfume. The spray pump was broken and very little had been used. I was honest and told the associates I couldnt remember if it was a gift or if I had purchased it at the State College or Altoona store. She looked through my transactions and couldnt find it. This happened at 10:15am on 1/14/2021.I was honest and said I know it was purchased at an Ulta because thats the only place Ive found that perfume. The manager offered me a $2.20 refund since there was no proof it was bought at an Ulta and said Id have to purchase the bottle at full price. What a joke! 😡I expressed my displeasure with that response and asked if they knew how to fix the pump. Their response: We dont know 🙄😡😳. I left with my broken bottle of perfume and will not shop at Ulta again. At least Target and Wal Mart wouldve worked with me instead of against me.They made me feel like I was not being truthfulEdited: in response to the owners response...Yes, as I stated in my review, I was informed of that unfair policy. I will no longer shop at Ulta.
This store is a disaster. I don’t think the management knows what they are doing. The employees are great but you can tell there is a lot of negative energy in the store. Did not like the vibe I was getting so I left.
Ive been seeing Maddie as my stylist for almost three years, and I couldnt ask for better! My hair always ends up perfect. Her colors are especially phenomenal. Shes done a natural honey/caramel balayage on my hair, rose gold, and bright pink on my naturally dark brown hair, and each time its been perfect. She has an excellent eye for color and the tone always complements my complexion. She explains the products shes using and gives great suggestions, but isnt overly pushy with them. Its my go-to store for makeup, too, and Ive always had excellent service. Ive never felt pushed into buying something I dont need or is outside my budget.
Mary took so much time with my daughters and really made it a great experience. She is informed about her craft and helped us to make the best choices.
Avoid this location if you are high risk for Covid. I overheard one of the managers complaining about a worker calling out because they were waiting for Covid test results. Apparently the managers would like their workers to show up to work even if they have Covid symptoms. I didn’t catch the managers name but she should probably speak where customers can’t hear.
The hair stylists are WAY overrated and dont seem to know what theyre doing. My mom has curly dark hair and she asked for a balayage. First, they didnt actually give her a balayage and left a completely untreated bald spot in the back. Then they finally gave her a balayage but did an absolutely horrible, spotty job and completely ruined her hair. $600!!! NEVER go to this Ulta for your hair. The cheaper places are actually way more professional, dont make pathetic excuses, and actually take their time on your hair. Ulta severely damaged her hair because they refused her request to add a special product that would prevent it from getting damaged. They dont care about you or your hair like theyre supposed to, they represent workers who are only there for the money.
Very busy today, but good distancing and masking. The perfume smell is strong, even with a mask, not good for someone with migraines or who is sensitive to smell. Overall, good store and friendly staff.
Unable to get my eyebrows waxed because I was wearing a gator face mask, vs one that goes behind my ears. They didnt even have a throw away one to provide customers. They made no mention of the rule when I made my appointment!
Lisa is a great hairdresser. She really knows how to cut and color hair so that it looks good immediately and for a long time afterwards. Probably the best hairdresser I have ever had. Also, I find that customer service is excellent there.
Visiting PSU and decided to try last minute to get a new haircut at Ulta. My first time here. Maddy did a wonderful job on my hair. She listened to my concerns and offered suggestions. I was very happy with my cut and the customer service here.
What a great experience! I went to Ulta in State College PA for a full makeup lesson and picked up some great tips. My makeup knowledge is more in the beginning stages since I have not worn much makeup in years, but sitting down with a professional really helped. I am more relaxed about wearing makeup now. They helped me feel more confident and comfortable moving forward doing this on my own. I really appreciated the time that she took asking questions, explaining everything she was doing and letting me do some of the application myself with her guidance. I am overall happy with the ending results. I left feeling beautiful, got some great products and am very pleased with the customer service. I highly recommend a lot of their services. Everyone was so nice.
Love ulta, dont love being interrupted by every employee in the store while trying to shop. Once is expected, twice is even ok, 3 or more feels like harassment.
Stopped in for haircut/makeup on my overnight stay in state college. And got the best service/local tips from Maddy 1 and Maddy 2! Maddy 1 did an awesome job on hair/makeup, one of THE best cuts I’ve ever had! And Maddy 2 gave the best ideas for dinner/drinks for my first time visit to town. Glad we decided on the short rib nachos at Happy Valley Brewery! (Thanks Maddie!) The store associates were also very helpful with finding a perfect gift I needed for teenage girl. Really great experience and fun night on the town.
I really like Ulta. I appreciate being asked if I need help and that there is so much variety in the store. However, standing in line for 15 minutes and hearing Zoe the cashier ask for ID in order for customers to redeem their points for their purchase because she wants to Make sure no ones stealing points is hilarious. I got to the the register and used my credit card. Zoe did NOT ask me for my ID. Guess my plastic money isnt as important as the next girls points are. Hard eye roll. Seriously, she did this with 5 people ahead of me. Maybe they used a debit card that required a pin? I most certainly had to sign for my purchase. Can we focus on asking for identification for all transactions? Not just point usage here? Thanks.
Worst cut l ever had.
Absolutely horrible, I have never ever had a bad experience at ulta until 6/8/2020 with an ignorant worker in the state college ulta beside Trader Joe’s. Though masks are required in their store, governor wolf announced they were no longer needed. This ignorant lady threatened to “kick us out” if we didn’t wear our masks “properly”, meaning actually putting it over our noses, when in general I already have a health condition that makes wearing a mask even harder to wear for long periods of time. So good job ulta, what a great way to present yourselves👏🏼
Ulta is my place where I always get my beauty products but the one in this location has failed to give me good service almost every time I have been there. The first couple times I went to find a facial treatment to use at home which I have no experience and would appreciate someone to help guide me. But during those times I was there I couldn’t find the service needed while the one girl watched me when I was confused trying to figure out what I was looking for. Today, I went to find a exfoliating treatment and moisture treatment to start a beauty routine for my wedding but I didn’t want to buy the full products without finding a sample version which I walked around the entire store 6 times trying to find one and yet NO-ONE asked me if I needed help. It’s sad to say I rather go up to Pittsburgh to go to an Ulta then down here because their customer service is superb which is a huge reason why I shop at places. I am done wasting my time at this location.
Clean and organized. Decent customer service. Checkout is a little difficult since there is usually a lot of people. But nothing so bad that I wouldn’t go again. Was able to find everything I was looking for. Great customer “club” discounts and freebies when making a purchase.
I am very disappointed with my visit to this store. I traveled an hour and a half to go to this Ulta, only to receive no service. I struggled to get through the doors with my current handicap and made eye contact with a few employees who looked the other way as the doors started to close on me. I managed to get in and eagerly waited to be greeted by an employee so i could ask them for some guidance on a few products. I was prepared to spend a large amount of money there because I was looking for multiple products. Three employees walked past me without saying anything to greet customers that came in behind me. I started to look on my own but couldnt find what I was looking for and got frustrated that even when i made eye contact with employees and waved for them to help none of them did. I dont know if they didnt want to help me because Im disabled but thats sure how it felt. I am allowed to shop there too and should not feel discriminated against over something I cannot help. I left without buying anything and felt extremely discouraged by the whole situation. I will not be going to another Ulta; I traveled 80 miles just to feel inadequate enough to be serviced by their employees.
Sometimes good, sometimes bad. I am Asian but my English is far more better beyond reading the labels and the associate literally lied to my eyes when she recommended me a shampoo which was labeled for colored hair, even when I asked her the second time if the shampoo was for colored hair, she said no. It looked like she thought I couldn’t read the label - totally bias and no respect.2 stars for the mask mandatory policy - which protects everyone and thanks.
I love this place. Anything you need for bath, skin, nails, hair, makeup is here. I get my hair done here and am very pleased with my stylist.
Had my hair cut here. The stylist, Maddie, did a wonderful job. I called that day and for an appointment. There could be a bit more privacy for those who are getting their hair done.
I love the selection that Ulta affords. While Target has stepped up its game in terms of bringing in a competitively large makeup section, Ulta still wins out on having very specific items that Im looking to purchase. Plus, Ulta carries all of the prestige brands.I get coupons occasionally, and some of them are alright, but Im thrilled about the last coupon I was sent. It allowed a general discount to be taken off of my entire purchase, including sale items and prestige makeup brands. That means I was finally able to try prestige brands....The only downsides are that occasionally the drug store level products will be heavily picked through or not restocked. The occasional tester will be missing, which is unfortunate if there is an interesting product that really needs to be tested for skin tone match. The store is not cheap, but usually has some offers of interest for those of us on a budget. Plus, having product options available beyond what you can get at a drug store or a big box store has really improved the beauty merch selection in town.
I had an enjoyable experience with makeup artist Lisa for my PSU graduation photos. I would highly recommend her, great work in a great time
Mixed bag. Sometimes theyve got exactly what youre looking for, and youll be able to get it easily. Sometimes they dont, or its expensive. But its way better than what we had previously (nothing) and its worth the trip over Walmart or Target or Macys for high quality makeup and beauty products.
This location gives misleading, false information. Dont even think about going if you have ethnic hair. I called them because I needed my hair straightened last minute, and I figured a corporate chain salon would have some experience with all kinds of hair. I was given misleading information about their experienced stylists that can do your natural, curly hair! Yes, we have the styling tools needed for your type of hair! False. It felt like a 3 year old was playing in my hair for 2 hours, trying to complete a 45 minute task. Not only did they not have the correct tools I asked about over the phone, and they didnt even know how to comb through my hair correctly while applying heat. After I was told I wasnt going to be charged for the service, I noticed that my ends were all over the floor. I lost almost an inch of hair. The ends that were left were fried and in knots. I had to brush it myself at the end just to put it in a bun. This complaint is going straight to corporate.
Spent 300.00 to get the bottom of my daughters hair dyed purple. It was a 3 hour process. After 1 week the color was GONE. I called and they said they would re-do it but she did not want to sit there again to have it done over. Clearly someone there doesn’t know what they are doing. She had her ends dyed teal last summer and I had to get that color cut out of her hair in January so I know that her hair takes color. I will not return to this salon again.
Terrible experience last week with my hair. Paid 200 dollars to get a cut and color I didn’t ask for. I hate my hair, but the girls are nice, so it’s hard for me to say anything. I tried a few washes to make sure it wasn’t just toner or something and it’s even worse. They need better stylists. I’m in fear of going back to get it fixed and out $200.
They never have the free gift with purchase! Every time I go in they always are out of the free gifts! How can you have a certain number of products and not enough free gifts with the purchase when it comes to hair tools?!!
I received a haircut from Maddy, and it is absolutely the worst haircut I have had. I do not have bangs, but she assumed I did and just started cutting me bangs. I stopped her immediately and now have the shortest little hairs surrounding my face that are too short to even pull up in ponytail. Wouldnt it be smart to ask someone about their hair before you just start cutting it?
Love that the things I get are always in the same place so I dont have to search for them. There is usually a friendly staff member asking me if I need any help. Its hard for me to find makeup I can use since I have contact dermatitis. I like that I can sample things to make sure Im not having a reaction to them.
My eyebrows were looking like caterpillars. They were able to fix it. Now I look less homeless. Thank you.
I went in for a color correction after a home dye job went very wrong. Mary was very thorough in explaining how we could try a couple things first before covering the horrible pink and purple color. She was able to get the color out enough for it to be recolored. Mary fit me in for a last minute opening she had which was very nice. After she assisted in finding the right color for my hair she turned me over to Chelsea (I knew she had only an hour for me prior) and Chelsea finished my color and style. The entire staff was very courteous throughout and they worked together on the best option for my awful home job. The brow bar was just as wonderful as well. In fact the staff throughout were professional and patient. They have gained a new client for sure!
If I could give zero stars I would. Ultas Credit Card system and bank association is completely incompetent. I opened a Ulta Ultimate Rewards Credit Card (The store card, not the Mastercard) on 9/20/19. I was told I would be receiving the card in no more than 7-10 business days. I received the card on 10/11/19. My payment (with 24% interest) is due on 10/17/19. So after receiving the card way past its delivery guarantee, I went online right away to register it and pay off my balance. Ulta could not find my account in store or through their customer service. I visited the store I signed up at 3 separate times within the two weeks of waiting for the card looking for the manager about this time sensitive issue. I had always just missed him and was guaranteed a call from this guy, Dave, which I never received. Giving up on the physical store and employees, I contacted the bank directly, giving them all of my information for the card, only for them to tell me that I had received the wrong card and my real card was stolen ? They offered to send me a new card (but with 2 days left to make a payment or hurt my credit and owe 24% interest) I could not wait another 7-10 business days. I ended up giving my personal information over the phone (uncomfortable with btw) to pay the amount in full and was given a confirmation number that Im sure wont exist if I have another issue. Shopping at Ulta casually has never been an issue for me but I strongly recommend NOT signing up for any of their cards or services. Ill see in a few days wether or not my payment went through and they can confirm my balance owed is zero.
Kathy does an amazing job on brows & has a very friendly and outgoing personality, she even remembers details you told her about your life. I went in around noon yesterday and got an amazing brow wax by her, but first I went to the M.A.C area looking for a foundation, I had to probe the girl there to do anything, (ie “do you put the foundation on me now?” ) I was also never invited to sit down. I actually would have bought things from that section but when I said I wanted a certain item she kind of just stood there. Talk about awkward, So I went over to Clinique and a very nice girl helped me find the perfect foundation! She matched my skin tone & was so nice. So that kind of fixed my bad experience with the M.A.C girl, I would still give my experience 4 stars
I haven’t been there yet but on August 3rd I’m getting my tips done teal the person who is doing my hair is extremely excited to do it her name is Mary
Enjoyable experience with makeup here.
Staff is very friendly and helpful. However, the variety is sometimes not as good as an Ulta in a metropolitan city.
Good for on sale make up but other than that a lot of the women follow you around like you are going to steal. Makes me very uncomfortable to be stared at especially since I shop there alot. Also, all the Yes To face products and alot of the drugstore brands (NYX, Revlon, Physicians Formula, ect) are half the price at walmart even less sometimes. I did the math and even with the points and coupons you still save more in the long run at Walmart on those brands. Ask for the high end brands, some of the sales are definitely a win but you can normally find it cheaper online with different companies. The sale rack in the back has definitely had some amazing sales. Also the workers are a tad lazy. They just like to sit around and destroy makeup
The girls that work here are truly not pleasant at all
Product is there but nobody ever even looks at you. Their too busy talking to each other to even notice you. Rude!
I waited for a couple of weeks after getting my hair cut here, because I dislike posting negative reviews. I know that corporate jobs like this offer little satisfaction and perhaps even less compensation, and I empathize. That said: this haircut is terrible. I resent it every day—and it cost me $39 plus tip, which represents an enormous bait-and-switch over the $22 advertised in the pricing on the website for a dry, barber-style “clipper cut” for short hair (which I have).I was a first-time customer when I arrived for this cut. There was a very large sandwich board in the front of the store advertising a percentage off for first-time Ulta salon customers. When the cashier at the salon first rang me up, she did not apply the discount. When I asked for it, she acted like she had no idea what I was talking about, then only applied it begrudgingly.I will not be returning to this or any other Ulta location for haircare.
I feel at home in there #lol
I received very poor customer service in this store yesterday. I will not shop here again, and will get my products online instead. I went looking for TARTE foundation. They barely had any shades in stock. After being color matched for the light sand shape tape foundation I was told they were out of stock but they could order it and have it shipped to my house. I opted to ask the consultant to try and match me with a shade they did have in stock as I wanted to purchase the product as I needed foundation. She insisted this was a bad idea as a different shade wouldnt match as good. I hesitantly agreed. I took the tester shade to the register and asked for it to be ordered and shipped to my house as the consultant had advised. I was told i could finish shopping and they would start the ordering process. About and hour later I go to check out and ask about the product they were to be ordering for me. After a bunch of conversation back and fourth with the different girls working the register, I was told unfortunately they couldnt order the product because TARTE discontinued the shade. If this was the case why were they advertising it on the store shelf? I spent alot of time trying to figure out the right color and working with their representative to match me up, which was just a waste. I go home and look on the TARTE website and there is the color they told me I couldnt get. I was able to order it. The store clerks were too busy talking with their friends and each other to satisfy a customer. While in line I witnessed 3 different customers who were to receive a free gift with purchase only to be told they were out of it. I asked for a flyer when I first went in, they were out of them too. What poor business practices exercised in this store!!!!!
I love this store but alot of the staff are extremely rude and turn me off of coming back, but then some are really nice and helpful. I brought my baby with me once and she was screaming, not crying but just yelling and i felt the need to apologize because they were looking at me like i was sinning. Then the one lady said Dont let her grab things and pull them off the shelf. Also just about everytime i was in there it seemed like i was followed which made me feel super uncomfortable. They act like theyre organizing but the isle me and my 9 yr old were in was not a mess and she followed us throughout the store and went in every isle we went in just picking stuff up and setting it back down. I spend too much damn money at this store too feel that uncomfortable. Ive traveled to a further location this last time because of the staff at this one. They need to get it together here and start teaching the staff to be more respectful and that just because someone doesnt wear makeup when they walk in doesnt mean they dont belong. People enjoy going bare faced to these types of stores to test products out.
Called to schedule an appointment at the brow bar today, woman was very rude. I honestly am not sure how she still has a job there. I will never go there for services again, very disappointing. Maybe work on getting some customer service training for your employees.
Great place to find good brand names.
I visited Ulta Salon for the first time in order to get my hair done for engagement photos. I had a coupon for 30% off first time customers for blowouts. When I got to my appointment, the girl who looked up my appointment was the one who took me back to get my hair done (there were only two girls there). After it was finished I went to check out at the front desk with my coupon and they looked at me like I was crazy. The girl had to walk back to the salon to talk with the stylist and when she returned told me that apparently the girl who did my hair was a Senior Designer and my coupon didnt apply. I wasnt given a choice of stylist nor did I know she was one and I wouldnt have chosen a Senior designer if I knew my coupon didnt apply. So I ended up paying $47 + tip for a Go Out Blowout that didnt even look like anything was done to my hair. It didnt even last until my pictures which were an hour later. I dont mind paying as much as the fact that it looked like nothing was done to my hair! I am very dissappointed in not only the service but the deceiving coupon offer. I really thought of using ULTA for all of my upcoming bridal events because its so convenient but I will definately not be returning after this experience.
I was so impressed with the ulta salon. I decided to make a change from another salon I had been going to for about a year downtown. I was looking for better prices and better customer service. I definitely found what I was looking for. I had been blonde for close to 10 years and I was ready for a change but kept getting talked out of it by other stylists. Sam gave me an awesome bayalage that took me back to my natural color at the roots and transitioned to the blonde I already had at the bottom. I was told it would be almost impossible to do this. I guess Sam is a miracle worker because she made the impossible, possible. I would definitely recommend their services.
Beautiful employees very kind
Has all the makeup you could need. Helpful staff.
The staff are always helpful, good location.
Great place
Great product selection and friendly staff!
The place I can go to get my makeup obsession out.
Staff are incredible.
They were rude to my sister and didnt even bother to ask her if she needed help
Friendly staff, and lots of options to choose from.
Overpriced, confusing, home of the upsell, inefficient checkout.
Like a makup carnival!!
Diverse options
So. Many. Choices!!!
Good
Got what I needed
EXPENSIVE.
