This place used to be good.... USED TO BE. The only thing good here is the sticky buns. I used to like going to their mac and cheese all you can eat for 6.95. However, now if you want to share you have to pay an up-charge of 3.50 for the mac and cheese. The best part is you will not be warned about this until the very end when you suddenly see a 3.50 charge on the end of the bill. You also cannot take any of it home with you anymore. SERIOUSLY?! Im paying for the food and then an up-charge, and I cannot take it home?! Its ridiculous! Definitely will not be going again. YOU HAVE LOST A CUSTOMER.

Decent food. Yall need to provide more than one teeny little butter cup for the toast or better yet stop being cheap/lazy and butter the toast before serving it.No free refills on coffee??? Come on.The very young looking waitress that was friendly and fast is the only reason this place doesnt get one star.

Service could be really slow even when theres only a couple other customers. When the food comes out its always good though. Mac and cheese is very good as well as the stickies! Good for breakfast too.

I chose to eat here today simply because I hadnt been there in more than 5 years, and didnt want to end up smelling like homefries from dining at another popular breakfast place in town. Should have picked the other place. The service was great as we were one of two tables. But ... the coffee cup was dirty, the table condiments sorely needed wiped down, the place just looked tired. The cook must have been tired, too, as the food, while hot and fresh-looking, was salty. We both had scrambled eggs which tasted watered-down. The blueberry pancakes looked amazing, filled with berries, yet were VERY salty - what gives? And I was surprised that the staff was not sprucing up the place while it was quiet. Resting up for the lunch rush on a Wednesday? Just not the place I remember - and I was always the sober one when frequenting this place in my younger days.

They make fresh chocolate milk everyday with local milk. You must try it. The grilled sticky! It makes you happy even you are sad. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. If you dont know what you eat for today, go to The Diner.

Wow, has this place went downhill in the last 10 years!!! I used to love the cheap tasty diner food in my college days, but now they serve tasteless frozen hamburger patties and charge $7 for one. And the cheesy tator tot appetizer was also tasteless and outrageously over priced. We ordered 2 hamburgers and one appetizer and the bill was $23!!! Not quite the diner price range I was hoping for:( Also the quality of food was poor. I felt like my $ would have been better spent at a fast food drive in, because at least the food has flavor!

Nice breakfast place. Tasty selections and many come with the grilled stickies on the side which are delicious. Only negative is that you cant split checks on weekends and sometimes they only accept cash.

I have to say that this restaurant has done something very few other restaurants have ever done. I like to think Im patient, and that Im not the nitpicker that folks on restaurant shows can be. This restaurant, though, managed to make a superhuman effort that resulted in me actually going online and telling anyone who will care to listen, Dont go here.My friend and I went to the restaurant during the lunch rush on a Thursday. There was exactly one server in the entire place, with over a dozen tables, plus the two of us at the counter. A second server came in while we were waiting for our food, but she didnt appear to be running food or doing much else besides taking money for our food. We never saw a manager on the floor, either.With this lack of service, the wait was, shall we say, excessive. When we finally received our food, it was left on the grill long enough to have the flavor cooked out of it. I understand a little brown on an omelette, but mine looked, on the outside, as if it were deep-fried. The potatoes were dry.This place apparently prides itself on stickies, and Im not sure why. Slicing up cinnamon rolls and putting them on the grill for a few minutes doesnt strike me as being a big deal. The ones I had were all right, though I wish we would have had some pancake syrup or something else to keep them moist. I would have flagged down the server, but she was spending a lot of time helping other customers -- the servers work ethic is the one thing I will compliment about this place.My friend told me The Diner was a State College icon, and my impression is that somebody is resting on laurels. She had never eaten there before, and our brunch vindicated her decision. Fortunately, we found a place down the street, last year, whose food was perfectly good, and so we have a place to go next time Im visiting her.

Ye Olde College Diner is a State College staple, serving traditional diner food and conveniently located across the street from Penn State University. It was, as expected, very crowded; not only did we stand for quite a while until we got a seat at the counter, we then had to wait over 45 minutes for our order to come out. However, this was due to how busy the restaurant was, rather than any fault of the business. The wait staff was friendly and very helpful. The grilled stickies are an absolute must-try!One important note—the owner does not permit substitutions on any of the specials on the menu; however, they will allow for ingredients to be left off. While I am completely understanding of the integrity of the specials as they are created, this is problematic for those with allergies and/or dietary restrictions. Again, the staff was very good about explaining this.

The food matches its service.. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! The server got my order wrong (custom omelette and pancake) they return said order with the item that I did not want mixed into the next order they just added cheddar cheese. When I said that I would not pay for it. The manager was so kind as to give me $3 off of my meal. When I would not take that as a resolution, the manager storms over, interrogates me, rolls her eyes and raises her voice. Then proceeds to say Well next time dont eat any of your food before saying you wont pay. Didnt I have to take a bite or two to know whether or not I liked it and to know that you used the old items to make the meal? Long story short, they were rude, nasty and the food was just the same. Please save your money especially if you are a person of color, take Jim Crow rude and multiply that by 10. You have been warned. And the pancake was hard and nasty. SAVE YOUR MONEY!

Ye Olde College Diner is a novelty classic at arms with Waffle house. Would you go to Waffle house and ask for Poached eggs on a dang toasted English Muffin? No. If you had a brain you wouldnt. Its great for what it is.

Lady working the front register and managing the line was irritated and seemed annoyed by the presence of customers. She tried to make customers pay with cash although there are no signs saying that. Waitress was friendly and did well. Breakfast was good; coffee was ok...nothing special.

I ordered blueberry pancakes recently. My boyfriend order a cheeseburger. Simple enough, right? Apparently, not for the people that work at the Diner.We came in and told the waitress that sat us after five minutes (no one else in the diner, mind you) that we were just trying to get a quick bite between classes. After the waitress asked us what we wanted to drink twice, the only explanation for our thirty minute wait (when there was no one else there) would be if the waitress forgot to put our order in or the cook was using a blow dryer to cook our food.RIDICULOUS. The waitress then made a sour face when we didnt tip her over 20%. You didnt deserve it. What has become of restaurants in this town?

I went into this diner for the atmosphere and because I know that they have world famous State College Stickies. But I was severely disappointed with the food as it was dry, hard, and tasteless. Furthermore the bacon I ordered, if you could call it that, was flaky, thin, blackened and burned. The cost of the bacon, a whopping three dollars, was surely not worth the price. I would recommend this restaurant to a lame tourist who doesnt know what food tastes like.

Very disappointed on the service. I didnt find out they ran out of quiche until after my friends food came out. They gave me a sticky on the house, but the sad part is that it came out from the waitresses paycheck. I dont recommend this place to anyone.

Friendly staff. Food portions were generous and their signature stickey is well worth the price. The homefries were well seasoned and the omelet was nice and fluffy.

Just dont go there! people who work here hate their jobs, customers and apparently everything about life! I ordered toasted English muffins, buttered, with poached eggs first, they dont serve poached eggs, she brought me a cold floppy sliced English muffin and told me: YOU CAN BUTTER IT YOURSELF!I am not saying that it has to be a full service dining but at least dont talk to me like a mean step mother!She also messed up our check with another table!!The environment is horrible, no windows and not anywhere close to clean.Go to the waffle shop instead!

This place could be so amazing if they just fixed it up. Cant beat the PennStater breakfast though. If you are going here it is for the sticky buns though and they pull through in spades with those.

Terrible service. One time I went there for dinner with a friend around 7pm. We ordered but only got our food at 8pm and they were both the wrong order! We got up and just left...

I am a mother of a psu student and went to this diner over parents weekend. I was appalled at the quality of food and the service. Potatoes were rocks and the eggs were runny and undercooked. My husbands omelette never made it to the table. Worst dining experience at State College.

Very sad to see a Penn State landmark turn to such garbage over the years. The owner has left the restaurant by the way side to focus on other features, mainly catering and sticky bun sales. The result, underpaid unhappy employees with a massive turnover rate and an out of date seating area and menu. Now the place only attracts drunks at night (if theyre even open) and very confused alumni trying to relive their glory days but coming up short.

Stopped in to get breakfast for my kids during a college visit but was accosted while being seated for the half empty desani water bottle and half empty coffee cup I was carrying - Youll have to throw both of those out to be served here. Really? No wonder they are going under.What a shame. I spent many an early morning breakfast there. But clearly not the establishment they used to be.

How did this happen? This place used to be packed no matter what time you would come in. When I say used to I mean like 15 years ago. We came up to PSU to show our kids all the places we used to frequent in our college days. When we walked in the Diner there were no other customers in sight. We were greeted with a Cash only sign, followed by 4 employees sitting at the counter, heads down, playing on their phones to pass the time. We were told to sit anywhere. The server was nice, but lacked any sort of pep in her step, and looked like she just rolled out of bed with her slippers shuffling across the floor. The food was below average. We ordered fingers and fries, which you cant mess up, mac and cheese, quesadillas, a cheese burger, and the Penn Stater (from the breakfast menu). The fingers looked dry, like they had been in the freezer for a while, the quesadillas were average at best, the mac and cheese was plain tasting, and needed more time in the oven. The burger wasnt anything special, and the Penn Stater was less than stellar. While we sat waiting for our food we couldnt help but look around and notice the little things that could be done to at least give the appearance that they cared. This place is in dire need of a good cleaning. Lamp shades are mismatched, and supplies need to be put away. If Chef Robert Irvine got a hold of this place he would have a field day. We bought stickies on the way out just because we figured we couldnt go wrong with them, but we were mistaken. We got them home, and grilled them up the way we had for years, only to be met with dry, disappointing stickies. I didnt give them one star because I reserve that rating for places that dont stand a chance of redemption, and should just be shut down. I went with two stars because love is all this place really needs, love from the owners and love from the students.

Terrible experience. It took so long for the food to get to us. The scrambled eggs were cold, the bacon wasnt well done, and the home fries werent cooked all the way. Going to the Waffle Dhop next time.

I have been a server for 12 years...that being said this place should be out of business. Our server did not put in our appetizer, no drink refills, we were completely ignored for 20 mins waiting for our cold food. When we asked for fresh fries they came out burnt. The manager, who felt the need to tell every table the he was the manager and was very professional, tried to charge us sales tax at the register when our check already had sales tax added to it. When I pointed it out he refused to fix it and proceeded to argue with me like he was supposed to charge double sales tax and there was nothing he could do to fix it except pay for it himself. Absolutely horrible place. DO NOT EAT HERE! if u feel the need, I warned you lol

Im not a sticky bun person... But there stickys are Amazing!!! Def not your typical sticky bun... Its like almost french toast with this cinnamony gooey deliciousness!We also had a slice of apple pie while waiting for our food. It also was delicious and definitely fresh.The omlette my bf had was delish and so were the sunny side up eggs with bacon I had. When we got the bill I was pleasantly surprised at how little we paid... It was basically $10 per person before tip... Now our waiter rocked and was super friendly and was always checking up on us.. So we definitely left him an awesome tip!The only downside is if you want to come expect to wait at least 30 min in line...expect more for football weekends/graduation
