Amazing food! I can’t say enough about this place! We sat outside and it had a fantastic atmosphere, the servers were very nice and the service was fantastic. I had the eggplant panini for dinner and we got the watermelon salad for an appetizer. I definitely recommend! Don’t pass this place up!

27 years of hidden Jem of three village.Pentimento has an amazing romantic new garden, they have a beautiful water fountain in the garden so we hear water running while having a great dinner.Calamari, cheese board and ravioli with salami brings memories from grandma recipe.Wow. Always my best place to bring my friends who are visiting from out of town to get the best hospitality.Love you lisa and Dennis.

Terrible rib steak. Steak lovers be aware. Sorely disappointed because I specifically asked the waitress if the steaks are particularly good. The steak had alot of gristle and a large, obvious vein. I do not think it was a rib steak at all. Also the herb butter has lemon zest which I love but never on a steak. The rest of the meal was good. The ambiance was nice outside.

Delicious menu with some nontraditional items that Ive never found anywhere else. Lovely atmosphere inside and outside, great for a fancy or casual experience. I put 4 stars instead of 5 because they seem to open late on some days, like Sundays they dont open until 2pm which caused us to be unable to dine with them once. Be aware of their times, but otherwise its a fantastic restaurant!

Pentimento catered the meal for my covid micro-wedding. I can’t say enough about how wonderful they were to work with throughout the whole process—from planning to serving plates at tables.Elaine worked magic for us. All our guests raved about the meal and service. Personally, as the bride, I feel so incredibly grateful for this wonderful group of professionals who went above and beyond to make our day great.

World-class Italian restaurant in Stony Brook village, near the University. Really enjoyed my dinner: seared tuna; a non-alcoholic grapefruit drink and a delicious budino - think chocolate mousse, but thicker and delicious-er! Really knowledgeable and friendly server, too. I’ll be back.

Sat at reception despite being given specific instructions to alert reception which room it was going to and to which name. Had to figure out on my own it was delivered almost 2 HOURS AGO! Excellent. Thoughtful modern italian executed with finesse. Service was solid. Had the signature salad, pasta in a wild boar ragu, and affogato. Nothing was wildly outside of the box but all classics well done, with layers of flavor to be explored.

My favorite restaurant! Warm and inviting atmosphere, friendly staff, beautiful outdoor seating, and constantly rotating seasonal menus and daily specials make this spot a favorite among locals. Ive been coming here for many years now, as both a special occasion spot and a date night favorite, and have yet to have a bad experience. As with any nice sit down restaurant, entrees can lean toward pricey, and on busier nights there can be a bit of a wait. I recommend making a reservation for peak times and weekends.

Finally made it here! Great food, lovely staff, cozy atmosphere with plants everywhere. It was a little too cold to sit in the courtyard, but it was filled, next time! The tangerine cosmo, pinot grigio, juicy lamb meatballs, corned beef sandwich & lebneh dip with hot toasty pita wedges are a must.Tables are spaced apart, including just 3 pairs of high top tables at the bar. Make a reso because we walked in at 5:30pm on a Saturday and were able to get a table, but it was mostly occupied (and tables spaced apart) when we left.Got so many interesting italian goodies in the mini mart connected to it: dried/fresh pastas, pinenuts, fresh salmon, basil tomato sauce, etc., including a bottle of the pinot grigio we liked. Thanks!

Hosts, management and staff are all lovely. Guillermo is our favorite waiter. Hes so attentive even when he is handling every table in the room. He is very knowledgeable and friendly. The food is always always always amazing! We visit multiple times throughout the year. Once we even went two days in a row just to enjoy their atmosphere and try another one of their delicious and interesting dishes. Its a true gem of the neighborhood!

Not a huge fan. The food was decent, and the waiter and hostess were incredibly nice, but we were guilt tripped for not eating something that we didnt like. Not someplace Id go again or recommend

The food was ok but very skimpy on the portion size and when we asked for some bread to fill us up it took ages to arrive and then was only two small pieces. The outside set up was very nice but you will allways lose me when you skimp on food. I would rather pay more and have a great meal!

Pretty delicious food with options for small plates or larger platters. Excellent bar selection add the service is top notch. My only complaints from my last visit are 1. They did not have the item I initially ordered and 2. They have me the wrong side order. Everything else was great including the quality of the food.

Love the atmosphere, i must say what a wonderful server we had twice. Her name is Jennifer, she is very attentive. Food is delicious. It is our new favorite restaurant. It is very clean to add.

I had not been in a while and I really wanted to love it. My wife’s first glass of wine had “turned”. Her steak tasted “Smokey” (I tried it), the lobster linguine was “bland”, and my sons margarita pizza was not good at all. Rare for all 4 of us to not finish a main dish. Great ambiance, great service but the food was a huge disappointment. I’m so sorry to post this. 4 years ago (when I last went) I remember it to be better.

Always a good choice, this place has a nice menu where you will find something for everyone. Well cooked, I went with a vegetarian and he was happy as well. Service was good and the atmosphere is date friendly but also good for meeting friends and colleagues. Highly recommended.

This restaurant has consistently delivered high quality, classy modern Italian food Over several decades. Recent addition of excellent and varied vegetarian options, makes this more attractive. Tasty preparations and courteous, efficient service. All in all, a delightful experience.

Ate here this past Sunday( July 5) during Covid. Everything from the time we walked in to when we got our check was spot on perfect under the stressful conditions that they have to operate under. It really deserves 10 Stars! Also check out their new market, everything looked delish.UPDATE: Tried to eat here again on July 12th, but this time the owner who treated us like royalty the week before told us that without a reservation, we could not be seated with more than 45 minutes until the first reservation at 6PM came in. Totally confused and disappointed ☹️.

Food is always good here. Got the lamb sausage and pasta special. Kiddie pizza was good as well. Desert and coffee were tasty. The staff is mostly friendly but something is lacking on the service side, which is usually the case here. The iced tea tasted like coffee on the first round, but they brewed another pot that tasted less like coffee, but still had a coffee flavor hint.... so they made good on that pretty quickly.

Food was good. Prices were good. The atmosphere was my favorite. It’s a little fancy but homey at the same time. Overall a great places. The food was very good and I may be bias because I’m the not the biggest Italian food but again it was very good just not amazing like some Spanish or Asian cuisine places.

Had Fathers Day dinner with family. They ran out of eggplant and clams, I ordered one of the specials, not my 1st choice, Small portion, had to use a knife to cut the zucchini! Service was very good. Appetizers were good, only got mussels bc they ran out of clams! Desserts were small portions very good. Wine selection was good.

Love this place...delicious drinks, excellent service, really nice ambiance and great food. It is my favorite local restaurant and thats saying a lot since fortunately I live in a neighborhood with no shortage of good restaurants.

Disappointing, we had such a great time the first time we ate here. We had a reservation, and the dining room was almost completely empty, but they sat us in the bar in a space so tight I couldnt get up to use the restroom without disturbing diners at the next table. My first menu choice was not available, so the waiter had to come back to adjust my order. And one if the mussels in the dish I finally was served had not opened. I was not going to pry it open at the table. The food was very good, but did not compensate for the haphazard experience.

We enjoy the food and friendly staff but the thing I dislike about Pentimento is they tend to rush the food out of the kitchen. If you order an appetizer and salad, quite often they will bring them at the same time. Also, you will be finishing your first coarse and the main course will be hitting the table in a couple of minutes afterwards. Dining is an experience, not a race. I recommend slowing down the food out of the kitchen....

This is my favorite restaurant in Stony Brook. Every time I visited the food was phenomenal. Great cocktails (the only place I found on Long Island that serves Spritz - the same way as you go in Italy). Love the outdoor seating. You can really relax and enjoy a night out here (or lunch).

All pasta is homemade in-house. Salads are all yummy. Get the cheese and olive plate. Amazing, unique desserts. Service can.be slow.

Nice, hidden spot tucked away on the north shore, in the heart of Stony Brook.The staff are friendly and know the food well. Im never one to blindly take suggestions by waiters or waitresses but I wouldnt be opposed to doing it at this place. Again, they know what youre talking about. And, its a great place to take or be a date

This is a unique hidden gem in Stony Brook village. Int et testing menu that varies seasonally. There were 4 of us, appetizers sandwiches and dessert. Everything shared and good. Ate in the lovely outside area.

The Wait Staff was absolutely fantastic and went through the entire menu with us and made appropriate suggestions. Went here for a belated Valentines Day and we stayed for almost 3 hours. I have not had such a memorable food-experience in recent memory. The food was delicious and, you can taste the care that the Chef put into prepping each dish and that he has his craft down to a science.Try the Cesar Salad!

We love this place for special occasions. You cant ever go wrong with the calamari and aoli mayo. The short rib is great as well. We have never had a bad meal here.

The best restaurant I have been to in the Stony Brook area. Every meal was unbelievably flavorful. LIttle on the pricey side but I did not mind paying what I did for the quality I received. And to top it off, they served the best cheesecake I have ever had.

Went here to celebrate an anniversary, wanting to try something new, that had a decent amount of vegeterian options. I was highly impressed, from the fabulous food to the attentive service, it was a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. I sampled the cocktail menu a bit and started with a cheese sampler plate and the in-house made olives which were an absolute delight! The eggplant I ordered was crisp and tasty, I enjoyed the cauliflower as well. They had a decent variety for my food limitations which as pleasing. The desserts were amazing, everything overall was so very satisfying.. I honestly cant wait to return. I found a new favorite spot in Stony Brook.

Fancy and romantic little Italian place close to my house. I prefer to go their during holidays and festivals, especially during Christmas. Their food is worth it. They also have late night menu after 10 to close which is also pretty amazing. I, most of times, order crispy cauliflower and their tatsy falafal sandwich. Yummyyyyy......:)
