If you’re buying hardwoods and care to pick what you’re buying, take your business elsewhere.Under the new management, the selection of species is a small fraction of what it was, I have not been permitted to select what I bought, the match between what I requested and what was picked was disappointing and the process took several days. I won’t go back.
Absolutely beautiful custom service !!!!!!!!The only business had the specific material in time in Massachusetts area,A big lumber yard name told me about that business....Very impressive.
Great place, knowledgeable workforce 5 Hi-Vis stars 🌟
My rating isnt for the quality...This place simply no longer has the barn for hardwood. I went by there today and they are out of that business unfortunately. Need to find another lumberyard
Great selection of hardwoods. I was able to get 6/4 white oak which I was unable to find elsewhere. With the pandemic they are not allowing customers to pick the woods, but I provided my requirements and they turned around the request in a couple days with some milling and and had it ready for pickup
I just heard that its unlikely that Rugby ABP / Downes & Reader will re-open its retail space where a large selection of rough sawn hardwood and plywood was open to the public for browsing. This is really sad news, as there are few retail stores like it left.I guess the business model just wasnt there to support keeping this type of space open post COVID-19. So sad. For us woodworkers, it seems like there are fewer and fewer retailers left that we can go and actually handle the product before we buy.
The very cheeky ranger got me feeling right before the start. Finish it in 4 hours, and if you go slowly, you will get rid of it. While unable to even speak to the previous group ....iit was very slow day . The cheeky guy doesn’t even control anything.
It is a shame that the Downes and Reader company has lost its customer service and lumber selection at the Stoughton location. For years the company was always there for local woodworker or commercial accounts. If this is a sign of the future we are being forced to look elsewhere for the products we always could count on from the Stoughton company..
Love this place. Its a bit out of the way and wish they were open later for folks who work during the day. However - they have a great selection of high quality lumber. The staff made me feel like a long-term customer within minutes. Very friendly and down to earth staff
Friendly people, very helpful and knowledgeable. Impressive selection of exotics as well as special on sale items. I picked up Purple heart and Zebra wood so Ill be busy for awhile.
Great selection, service, and people
Great selection of hardwoods. Staff is very helpful and they will pull a palette of fresh stock if you can’t find what you’re looking for.
Great selection... Most in unmilled condition. Good prices.
Nice selection and prices, helpful staff
Everyone who works there is so helpful and they all provide great customer service, from the guys in the warehouse to everyone in the office. Best place for quality hardwood.
The best place around for hard to find woods and lots of buying option, in the rough, planed to 13/16 or finished. Milling service love the place just wish they would stay open a little later
This review is for the retail lumber barn in Stoughton, MA.My experience is that this DR is oriented toward professional woodworkers and tolerate but dont welcome amateurs.Their advantages are: 1) a moderate selection of species and sizes, 2) mezzanines to save you from having to perch on a ladder to pull long boards, 3) a moderately friendly helper to cut boards and help load.Disadvantages are: 1) Prices not available by any means (nothing on online or downloadable) except to go into the adjacent office and disturb the clerks who are there to figure out how much you owe. If price figured into your selection, there is little help, 2) no prices posted on the bins, 3) no shorts bins, 4) occasional specials that seem to be come-ons rather than usable lumber, 5) If they allow cutting off a board for a short piece, I dont know about it.From my point of view, this yard is an old-fashioned lumber yard designed to service professionals. I avoid it and instead to to Highland Hardwoods, which is 15 further from home, but worth the drive.Im an amateur woodworker and have no interest in any hardwood supplier. My comments are based on my experiences.
TERRIBLE! I went here and order 4 BF of some ash, and they wrote down and charged me for 8, DOUBLE the price. I tried calling in but since they wrote it down on the paper work as 8, they couldnt do anything. 0/10 Customer Service.
Pretty good service, and my friends dad is like almost a co-owner or something
Great selection of hardwoods. Nice, helpful staff.
Excellent selection of hardwood at fair prices
Very helpful, great milling services, and reasonable pricing
I came to Rugby Wednesday March 28th for some white Oak but was dissappointed in your stock selection and sizes. Also many of the bins were empty or very little stock.
Surly. Hardwoods are hardly firsts and seconds -- more like eighths and ninths. Everything is picked-over. There are alternatives.
Great selection
