The owner Jim is as knowledge as it gets when it comes to whiskey. He always makes himself available to give recommendations. Plus the store stocks a variety of local liquors as well as the big national brands.What pushes the Packie above the rest for me are the store picks. Jim has the palate of Dionysus. He picks only the best whiskey to share with his patrons and if you’ve had one you know why people keep coming back.

Phenomenal Shop! Veteran owned and the owner, Jim is a really great dude. I won’t shop anywhere else. I’m going on 2 years as a customer, and started working here about 3 months ago. Nothing but great things to say on both sides. Quality beats normality and I’m here for it. Really really solid.

The Packie is my new go-to liquor store. You might say they are my packie to get the best spirits. They have a wide arrangement of liquor and I like that they have new whiskey selections each week. Best liquor store in the area by far. Staff is awesome, selection is fantastic specially for bourbon. They didn’t have exactly what I was looking for and Casey hooked me up with something that I think may be better. Highly suggest for all your needs.

The best local liquor store. I appreciate being able to go somewhere where the staff is friendly, knowledgeable about the products, and real. They know what I like and make good recommendations based off that. They’re straight with me about what’s good and what’s not worth it my money. I’m happy to spend a little more than the discount stores for that service alone, but the prices aren’t high either. They’re competitive and reasonable. If you want quality service and products, The Packie should be your only choice.

Jim the owner was nice and friendly. He puts time and effort into picking barrels of bourbon. I bought an Eagle Rare pick from him that was hands down one of the best bottles I’ve ever had. Very competitive prices and a willingness to put in the effort to bring great barrel selections to the customers. Highly recommend.

I have been in several times and have asked about a number of spirits (mostly whiskeys) and not once has the reply been I have no idea. If he hasnt personally tried it, he at least provides context as to why he has decided to carry it (based on reviews he has read or requests he has received for example). Its never been because a distributor is pushing him to buy it. Trust me, once you get to know Jim, youll know hed never give in to that kind of suggestion. He gets stuff because he thinks his customers will appreciate it. Not because his distributors want him too.Its nice to find a store with such a curated selection to begin with, but what puts this store over the top in my opinion is that he also regularly has a nice selection of barrel picks that Jim himself has selected from various distillates. Youre not going to find this level of curated offerings from any of the big box retail chains.Definitely worth a stop or three. If youre still reading this review, what are you waiting for?! You could be halfway there by now!Pro tip: When you visit, softly hum or sing Baby shark, just loud enough for Jim to hear. Its his favorite song and if he hears you, youll get the hook up!

No BS. The Packie is a store that has knowledgeable staff that knows their wine and spirits.You could go to some chain store and get suggestions from little Timmy or Suzie who havent had a drop of alcohol. Or you could go to The Packie where youll get real suggestions that steer you in the right direction so that you have a great night with a nice drink in hand.Lets put it this way, would you rather have an experienced pilot like Han Solo (The Packie) teaching you how to fly the Millennium Falcon or would you want some random rebel pilot whos never even sat in the pilot seat?The answer is simple. When traveling it can be tough to find a great store that is clean with a staff that has the consumer at heart. I loved my experience at The Packie.Jim not only took the time to make sure that I understood what I was buying but also shared his personal story with me. It made the overall buying experience a true pleasure. These type of stores are few and far between.

Store has a great selection and fair prices. Jim knows about all the different spirits not just bourbon even though that’s all anyone wants to know about nowadays. He’ll get you away from chasing those overpriced allocated bourbons and get you something better based on your palate. He does gets allocated bourbons and instead of selling to restaurants or at secondary prices, he sells it to his customers at fair prices. Packie has some of the best bourbon barrel picks in the whole state. He takes pride in the store he has grown and a good contributor to the Summerville community.

So there I was on a rainy Charleston day stuck in traffic on Dorchester Rd., when all of a sudden a piercing ray of sunlight beamed down from the heavens upon a small store. I pondered to myself what establishment could this be to get such a heavenly sign. It was.....The PackieI walked inside and was immediately flabbergasted at the amazing selection of the nectar of the gods. After my shock wore off I was greeted by the purveyor of these perfect pots of liquid gold. Jim was quick to offer assistance and regal me on the stories of bourbon and yesteryear.Cheers to this fine store. I will be back tomorrow.

I’ll be honest. I don’t really do a lot of reviews but this place is well deserved of some love, maybe even awards. I think major distilleries should take note and send special allotments of their hard to find liquor to this store because they do such a good job. Fantastic family atmosphere, friendly, polite, and clean. We all know how important cleanliness is right now, and this store stays very clean. Maybe the cleanest I’ve ever seen. Also, if you use the password “big papi”, he’ll reach into the back for his hidden bottles of Pappy Van Winkle!

I live in Columbia and this store is worth the drive. They always have a good selection and the owner and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. I try to stop by whenever I’m in the area and the occasional random trip. They offer store/barrel picks that are highly sought after. If you are ever in the area you need to swing in and check this place out.

Going here can feel like more of an experience than just a stop at a liquor store. Great local shop for spirits! As an avid bourbon guy, I was happy to be able to sneak in while in the area and get one of the renowned packie picks — Pancake Batter. This lock was a highly regarded single barrel pick of Eagle Rare available only at this location. Would highly recommend stopping in to see what they have — who knows, you just may be lucky enough to walk out with a pick 🥃

Im a bourbon guy, and the Packie is the only place in the Summerville area where Ill spend my money. They have a huge selection of good bourbons at great prices. Also, they frequently (seems like almost always) have barrel select or single barrel store pick bourbons that the owner selects himself. Jim is super knowledgeable and eager to help find something that fits your palate. I occasionally venture away from bourbon, and the Packie has me covered there. They recently had a store pick Rum that was fantastic! Definitely recommend you stop by if youre in the area!

This place is fantastic. I have only been once but my favorite part were the cats. I love cats and he had cats everywhere! I mean all kinds of cats. Brown cats, black cats, white cats.....really all kinds of cats. Ill never shop for bourbon anywhere else. Keep it up with the cats!

The Packie is a great spot to grab all of your spirits. Large selection of popular items, including my favorite, bourbon, at reasonable prices. Jim makes the effort to know his customers and cater to their needs. Also love that he gets hard to find barrel selections of bourbon, rye whiskey and rum! Its a clean, veteran owned and operated establishment in a great location in Summerville.

There’s finally a liquor store in Summerville that you can go to where the ownership looks out and listens to their customers. Jim always makes you feel at home and is quick to start up conversation with everyone that enters the store. He’s always wanting to know what I’m in looking for and is quick to make suggestions based off of my passed picks from visiting the store. If you’re looking for a hard to find bottle, a good selection of all liquor or just a great conversation, The Packie is your one stop shop.

Those other big box stores are a waste of time. They cater to restaurants and dont really offer their finest products to regular customers. The Packie has some great liquid and it is competitively priced. And their staff is knowledgeable. And they care. We stop by whenever we are in town to see what store picks are available. My first trip to the Packie was yesterday and I was definitely impressed with their selection and the knowledge by the staff especially with bourbon. I saw two different single barrel picks, available in his store. Even though I prefer bourbon, I settled on a single barrel Rum pick that is delicious!! I will be back soon. Love the small store feel and the staff.

I learned about the Packie through a fellow bourbon lover, and it just happened to be on the way home (and only 5 minutes) from work. I have enjoyed many afternoons decompressing from work by chatting with Jim and company, browsing the selection for way too long, and often trying a new spirit or two. When you walk into the Packie, even if for the first time, you have arrived home. Jim is always there to greet his customers--the regulars and the first timers. You can hang out and chew the fat or get in and get out with speed. His selection is wide and deep, from cordials, Tequila, Rum, Whiskey (Scotch, Irish, Canadian, or American/Bourbon). For those who look for allocated bottles, The Packie is the kind of establishment where you will find these bottles at MSRP. And......if you happen upon the Packie when Jim has any one of his many barrel picks out...then be sure to snatch it up. I drive well out of my way to patronize the Packie, and you would do well to do it too.

Support your local Mom n Pop liquor stores! I dont know that Jim is even a mom OR a pop, but if hes not, he probably has one or two of them, so its support by proxy. I always stop in on Wednesdays which is the same day as Swig & Swines half-off Wing Wednesday right across the street, and Jim doesnt work Wednesdays, so I dont even get credit for shopping there, but thats alright. Hes shown a remarkable proclivity for picking whiskey barrels, and Ive plowed through a handful of those over the past year (bottles, not barrels). Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and if you catch them on the right day, you might even get to sample some socially-distanced hooch at the register. Also, on a scale of 1-5, Jim has a 6* beard, and smells generally inoffensive.Shop Smart. Shop the Packie.

Im not from the area but ventured into the store to grab a bottle of bourbon to take to a friend. I was pleasently surprised to find a nice selection and great customer service! Jim shares the love for bourbon and was a great reference to help me make a decision on which great bottle to buy! I only wish that this store was located in the midlands so I could shop there more often! Next time Im in the low country, I will be stopping by!

Regardless of your spirit of choice, The Packie is the place to shop. They have a great selection of bourbons, rums, tequilas, brandys, and vodkas. Jim is always quick to help with suggestions to help a customer find the perfect spirit. Be sure to check in regularly for his stores barrel picks. He has had great picks of bourbons, ryes, and even rums. I personally drive about 10 miles and pass numerous other package stores just to shop at The Packie. My husband is a bourbon drinker and I, admittedly, don’t know much about it. Usually I go in blind and don’t get much help. At The Packie, Jim takes his time and asks questions. He didn’t treat me like I knew nothing, and actually taught me a thing or 2 about bourbon. He gives honest reviews and opinions, making sure I leave with something great. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s a fellow Masshole (like my husband). The Packie has become our ‘go to’ place. Best liquor store in Summerville...that also sells wine. 😀

I could tell you to shop a local, veteran-owned liquor store, but that would be simply inadequate. I dont live nearby, but stop in whenever Im in the neighborhood because its the kind of place that improves your life. I walked in on a Tuesday afternoon, timid and down on my luck, hoping to earn brownie points from the wife by learning to appreciate Appletinis and Cosmopolitans. The owner, Jim, told me that was unacceptable. He taught me to drink hard liquor like a man. He taught me to like mezcal, rye, and especially bourbon. My life changed. I walk a little taller, lift more weight at the gym, grow a fuller beard, and impregnate my wife just by winking at her. Do yourself a favor: be a man; shop The Packie.
