Joes a great guy with an equally great business. Two weeks ago I brought in a flat tire, he called me and told me I needed a new rim due to pretty bad rust on the inside. The guys could’ve just slapped a new wheel on and I would’ve never known. In fact I’ve taken that rim to two places (within the last three months) and I know for a fact they saw the rust, just didn’t care.Long story short. Joe’s a honest man with fair prices. I’d gladly go out of my way to support one of the few good bike shops in Chicago.

These are the only guys that I want touching my bike. I trust their word 100% on diagnosis and repair. Ive taken 2 of my bikes there and multiple times. Ive had my own issues with my bike due too my own situations and these guys alway give me the what happened this time look. Ive never gone back for the same issue. Once its done, its DONE. I would say the prices are a bit high for some services but if you know the way I am, I pay for quality. They are very fast and even have storage for bikes. Love this place. They dont take warrantees so dont try it. I recommend this place for most bikes.

I almost dont want to leave a review on this place because they are already busy enough but being a small business owner myself, leaving positive reviews for businesses that deserve them matters. These guys wont be able to get you fixed up same day you bring your motorcycle in, but when you get it back, its done properly. Not the most inexpensive repair shop but you get what you pay for and their hourly rate is justified by how quickly they can diagnose and fix the issues once theyre able to get to your motorcycle. Cant see myself taking either of my rides anywhere else!

I went in to get a tire changed and asked if they could do it while I waited. I was told that it may get done today but most likely by the next morning. They were busy which I understand. As I was filling out the service order a guy who was standing behind the lady said that he could do it right away. I was there and out in 15 min. That’s what I call service. Fantastic people there.

I recently purchased a 1981 Kawasaki kz440, first bike purchase and was going to be my first bike got it for cheap and was hoping cycle tech would take a look at it and see if they would help me work on it. And I know their a very busy business as when I walked in the front it was empty but was greeted by a awesome German shepherd but I saw a ton of mechanics working on bikes back there, my enthusiasm and spirits were lifted as the bike I bought would turn on but shut off once put into gear and seeing all these mechanics made me think like these guys are top notch! A nice lady greeted me asking if I needed help I told her yes was hoping someone can come take a look at a bike I had purchased, she called to an older gentleman letting him know I was there to get my bike checked out but he was busy test driving another bike but he’d be out as soon as he can I acknowledged it and went back to my bike started it up and waited for him to come. Unfortunately the bike shut off after a couple of minutes didn’t put it into gear but left it running idle. The gentleman didn’t come out in time so I tried turning on again and it wouldn’t run. So I head back inside and got distracted with the awesome bike they have on display but he saw me and and apologized for the wait. I understood as I saw he was busy, we go out to look at my bike he knew the specific bike just looking at it from afar I thought that was cool and felt even more confident. As soon as we got close enough he look at the carburetor and told me right off the bat that it wouldn’t be something he wants to work on since it was an aftermarket part. I gave him the background that the previous owner told me and he told me to discredit any other advice the previous owner had gave me. After all the talk he did say I’ll do something free of charge and he tightened the clutch lever so it wouldn’t wiggle and told us to to place a piece of metel over the solenoid. After that he apologized that he won’t take it in and left. I’m not going to lie this interaction really steered me from even continuing with this bike or even want to hop on a motorcycle like dang is this how brute motorcycle mechanics are? Feeing stupid and defeated I called another bike shop to see if they would check it out but it was the end of the day and he told me of another awesome bike shop that would help me unfortunately it was cycle tech. I told him I had just left there and was turned away for having an aftermarket part on it and he was confused as that didn’t seem like them to do that. Distant Brothers is the other shop that tried to help me find another shop. So after all that I just want home with my head down. But with a nonfunctional 1981 Kawasaki. Again I understand they are busy but so is Distant Brothers but they still steered me some where else for help. I gave them two stars because they seem like a very suitable bike shop and maybe I was just one they didn’t want to help but they look like they know what they’re doing just be ready for brutal blows like this.Edit: I appreciate the response and the more in depth reason as to why the bike was not took in. Although I would’ve appreciated it then and there. I’m not picky and I said you guys seems like a very professional bike shop by the work that was being done when I went it. I gave it two stars because it seemed very abrupt and unforgiving to just toss someone away the way he did with out explanation. Joe sounds like a pro by the way he spoke about the bike. I’ll edit the review as you guys did respond and gave me a more in depth reason as to why. I appreciate it and I hope next time he hears some one out to see if they’re willing to drop the money on it. Again appreciate the response I wish you guys the best!

Although I wasnt able to get my motorcycle fixed, I sincerely appreciated Joe taking a look at it and being very candid on the status of my bike. It was my first bike but it is essentially not worth it to be repaired. I was holding out hope that something could be done but he opened my eyes that this could be a deep rabbit hole and was very honest with me. He very well could have taken the bike and opted to crank up a bill but he gave the honest truth which to me is very important. Great guy. Honest guy. Shop was really nice and professional. Called on a Tuesday and asked if you need an appt or just show up. Told them I was in need of installing 2 tires on a Harley. They said no appt needed. They more than likely can get it back to me same day. Showed up at 11am and dropped off my bike. I provided my own tires so the gentleman helped me carry one of my tires from my truck. He asked if I had inner tubes because he wasn’t sure if my year and rims needed them or not. I told him no I did not have any. We left it as that, we weren’t sure. I signed the paper for $204 labor and $6 environmental fees, assuming they mean recycling old tires, $210 total. I called back at 5pm because I have yet to hear anything. The lady at the front desk answered and she had no idea what was going on. She couldn’t find any of my info. I had to explain what my bike was there for. She then asked if I had left my tires already. I said I left everything with the gentleman at the front desk. When I asked if it was going to be done today she said either today or tomorrow. I stated they said it was possible it might be done today and then she stated that they never say same day, either same day or next day. And then I asked when did she think it would be ready, she then said “Well it’s not ready yet, we haven’t called you right? We’ll call you when it’s ready.” I get a call the next day and they leave a voicemail stating my bike was ready and my total was $253 and some change. I wasn’t able to come in Wednesday so I went Thursday as soon at they opened. I was taken care of my the lady I’m assuming I was on the phone with and I asked why my total was more than what I signed for. She stated I needed inner tubes. I then asked why didn’t anyone call and tell me there would be an extra charge and then she stated “All spoked rims have inner tubes. You should know that.” So if I’m suppose to know that, why didn’t the gentleman tell me I needed them in the first place? Now leads me to believe do all spoked rims really need inner tubes since the gentleman who saw I had spoked rims wasn’t sure if I needed it? And why wasn’t I called to ask if I was ok with paying more? Seems pretty shady. What makes it even worse is that I received my bike back full of fingerprints on my exhaust and the coating for my white walls not scrubbed off. The gentleman who backed out my bike stated they didn’t have white wall cleaner, but all you need is soap and water and a brush to remove the blue coating. I sell tires for a living, I know what it takes to remove. Only reason I’m not giving 1 star is because of the pricing. Less expensive than the dealer. I chose them because they are local to me and I like giving smaller shops business. But after the service I received I feel as if I should go to the dealer and save myself the hassle of questionable repairs and terrible customer service.Response to your comment:The main point isn’t complaining about the inner tubes or the time frame. Upon dropping off they told me it could possibly be next day and I could possibly need inner tubes. I needed them and I have no problem paying extra for something I didn’t provide. It’s your customer service that was terrible. I called once to check the status and I got the response “We didn’t call you so it’s not ready.” And it’s a common courtesy to call someone to let them know there will be an extra charge to something your sales people weren’t sure I needed. And I’m assuming Joe is the gentleman in front who took care of me, he actually did see my bike because he showed me different spoked rims on a different bike so say those definitely needed inner tubes. Mine he wasn’t sure because of something circular he said. So your excuse that he didn’t see my bike is incorrect. He even came out and unlocked my bike because he didn’t want to keep my key because “they get lost pretty easily” and he also helped me get my tires.I am now changing my review to 1 star because of your bs excuses. So I need to buy your tires in order to get a clean bike back? It takes 5 min to clean white walls. Especially with the tires off the bike.

I took my bike in because I had some isues one being when I went over some bumps I would bottom out but my fender never hit the frame. The owner called me in to personally show me what issues he found once the forks were disassembled. Im feeling confident that the problem would be resolved. Take in mine he had my bike for 2 months claiming he was waiting on parts. Once the parts were installed now theres a new issue my fender is now hitting the frame. He didnt charge me for this but he damaged my fender & never told me. I had him to take my bike to another shop that dealt with custom front ends. He was carrying the fender upside down so I only seen the inside. Once he handed it over to the owner of the other shop is when I noticed the paint had been damaged. He should have put it back together the way it originally was & never try to conceal the fact he damaged my fender. I will NEVER RECOMEND THIS SHOP FOR ANYTHING. HES A SHADY BUSINESS OWNER!!!!

Responding to MR FSRWe did perform some repairs on his bike. he is correct about waiting 2 months for parts to come in. He may not have remembered but we were in the middle of a country wide stay at home order when his bike was with us due to Covid-19 everything was taking long to come in, especially Harley parts. his bike has a 23 front wheel and there is not enough room between the top of the fender and the bottom of the fork lower clamp. Everything is fine until you use the front brakes the fender comes up and hits the bottom of brake line junction box on the bottom of the fork clamp. the 23 wheel is to big to be used without modifications that our shop does not do.As far as me hiding anything, I told him about the fender damage and also showed him where the fender was damaged and repaired twice before in the past from the same thing. I even delivered his bike to another shop that does custom Harleys at no charge. He calls me a Shady business owner but he way off the mark

I was having an intermittent fuel problem with my 2000 Suzuki DR200. Sometimes it was hard to start (10 times before it began idling) other times it started on the first try. Sometimes when it was idling and I rotated the throttle it would die - other times it didnt. Same intermittent problem when riding - sometimes it would die when trying to start from a stop after running fine for 30 minutes. When I brought in to Cycle Tech, the bike started on the first try and the tech looked at me funny like I was crazy. However, they said they would take a look.A week later, Joe called me to say they disassembled the carburetor and discovered that a previous owner or repair shop forcibly hammered the fuel float valve into place creating a gap for fuel to bypass the float switch which was the reason for the intermittent problem. Joe went into a lengthy explanation of the problem and how they repaired it which I greatly appreciated. When I picked up the bike, Joe said that the handlebars were out of alignment (they were, but I couldnt figure out how to correct it), so he replaced the left side bolt that must have been bent from a previous owners drop at no charge.Joe and his team are very professional and knowledgeable. They operate a clean shop and the rates are fair. Ive brought my bike to two other shops previously, but CycleTech is the best hands down.

Joe who I spoke with over the phone such a warm spirit, I knew it was the place to go. Took it in, he looked at it, called me and stated that there was nothing wrong with my bike mechanically and that I only needed to clean the carbs, the owner did state he hadnt had it clean for 2 years, so he was right and I was glad when I heard that new, the owner stated that I had a good bike, so I got lucky on picking my first starter bike on my own and it is still in great shape and I actually sold it more than what I paid for when I upgraded my bike 2 weeks ago and Cycle tech will be my choice of shop for service. In response to Shane O this is Joe Laporte from Cycle Tech. Shane brought his wheel and tire in for balancing only. He had a mark on his Pulley that apparently he did not notice until he picked up his wheel. It was a line going all the way around the teeth of the pulley and we have no machines here that are capable of making that mark. I also explained that to Shane but he would not accept that.In response to Tenisha. They brought in a motorcycle that was in such bad condition that it was no where near worth repairing. The condition that this bike was in was that if we were going to take it in for service there would be additional repairs popping up that we have no way of knowing about until other repairs are done and then the customer ends up having money invested and no good motorcycle to ride and that is no good for either of us. There are some motorcycles that all you have to do is look at them and you know its not a good idea to take them in. Tenisha may have been unhappy with this but she would have been a lot less happy if we would have taken money from her and still ended up not having a good bike to ride.
