United Rentals quoted a price for renting a compactor over the phone. Once I got to their office in Sunnyvale, Calif. the price went way up. The manager, Jordan Cruz, helped me get the Vibrating Plate compactor. Then he added a charge for Rental Protection. He told me I needed to have an insurance policy which covered rental equipment. The charge for not having that insurance was $14.14. My rental cost was $111.14. That was over 10% increase. Watch out for this company and if you are comparing prices with other companies, ask for the full cost including Environmental Charges, taxes and of course the Rental Protection.
