Everything I remember from Doc’s, and then some!I had the Hash Attack - and it was awesome! The service was definitely diner-level (think “coffee always full” and a staff with laughter and attitude).This Syracuse classic can’t be missed - absolutely make a stop for breakfast or lunch and you won’t be disappointed!
Always come here for breakfast when I visit Syracuse NY. One of the few remaining GEMS left in the city. The Fritatta is also great! I suggest the half if youre not a big eater like me! Coffee is always hot and fresh, and the atmosphere with the old school NYC/NJ chromed out caboose diner is where its at! I remember coming here before it was remodeled and cleaned up!
Great spot! Passed through Syracuse, looked for a local diner for breakfast, and found this Gem. Plates were huge. Food was excellent. The staff was on point and operated like a fine tuned team. Tables were cleared quickly, people seated quickly, wait staff was quick and attentive, always checking in. The Gem was exactly what I wanted to find, and diners like this arent that common anymore. If Im ever in Syracuse again, Ill be stopping by for sure. Passing through? Dont miss this if you like good American style food.
Cute, medium seating Diner. Get there early on Sunday it does start getting a wait line around 10:30. Good food, nice portion sizes, decent prices, friendly waitstaff

Our family chose The Gem Diner for breakfast. The service was fast and friendly. The decor is fantastic with a 50s old fashioned diner vibe. Our breakfasts were served hot and fresh to order. Overall, with many different choices in the area, The Gem Diner is one of our go-to favorites. Highly recommended.
Went to the restaurant by accident, was meaning to go somewhere else but somehow put little gem diner in the GPS. Must have been divine intervention because my granddaughter and I had the most delicious eggs over medium, real home fries, and thick warm buttered Italian toast that we’ve ever had in our lives! The coffee was excellent!! Our waitress was superb. We were served quickly and were able to make it to an appointment on time even though we were several miles away from where we were originally going. We plan to return to the little gem!
Local diner with a lot of charm. The food is great too! Ive been here a few times and Ive really enjoyed it each time. The homemade corn beef hash was my favorite thing on the menu so far.
Excellent dining experience. Sit at the counter for quicker service or wait to be seated, either way youll enjoy being waited on by the friendly staff. Coffee is always hot and ready for a top off and the food is well portioned and delicious.
The food was delicious. I had the grilled chicken with feta cheese and spinach.
First time here and I wasnt thrilled. The food was acceptable however the service was horrible. I showed up with a friend of mine to just grab a burger and shake however we ended up ordering appetizers also. The waitress we had couldnt care less about getting our order perfect which was sad since there was only 3 other couples in the place so its not like the place was really busy. We get through apps and most of the burger and we both asked for another shake. I guess thats a huge no no due to she had an issue with it. Im fairly certain that if a customer requests something then you should be more than willing to comply with the request. So after about five minutes we got our second round of shakes along with the bill. Seems like we were being rushed and yet for what purpose really, we were now one of two tables of people in the place.. However we quickly finished our meal and paid the bill and left.. I get people have off days so I am willing to go back and give this place another shot. However for a first time experience it was pretty horrible

Solid choice. It is a lot bigger inside than it appears from the street so go inside and check if it looks full from the lot. Got the corn beef hash as i do with most diners. I figure of they can actually make the corn beef, as opposed to opening a can Im winning. And this was a win. Great service. Clean bathrooms.

Great diner! Charming retro interior, but you dont come here to eat the linoleum. I had breakfast and it was delicious. Giant pancakes, a thick slice of ham steak, two eggs cooked perfectly, and four big hunks of rye toast. I took a lot of pancakes home!My partner tried the cookie dough pancakes which were awesome and super rich. She also boxed up more than half!The staff is friendly and they run things efficiently.

Delicious Mother’s Day breakfast! Went here on a whim driving through the state and had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, they’re a pretty popular place especially on a Mother’s Day Sunday. The wait was right on time and totally worth it. Their corned beef hash is delicious. We got the Hash Attack and the Irish Benedict. Both were amazing. We also tried the kids French toast sticks and they were homemade & fluffy.
The menu had a pretty large selection of items priced within a reasonable price range. The place is kept very clean. My hash browns were a bit greasy and plain; however, the omelette was delicious, you could really tastes the veggies. Coffee wasn’t burnt and tasted just right. The staff was very friendly and young. It was crowded and there was a pretty long wait as far a diners are concerned. Other than this everything else was just right if you’re really looking for a great diner experience

Been here few times. The girls (hostesses) are not very welcome. A smile here and there would be nice. The place is usually busy and the food is great. Tasty! In general, staff could be more welcoming. On one ocasione the check was placed on the table 2 seconds after food arrived. Was planning on ordering cakes from the front but didnt get a chance.
Love the Gem! Been going there for over 40 years starting when I was just a kid stopping in before going hunting and fishing with my father to now when I come back to upstate NY to visit family and friends. Since the new ownership its just flat out amazing. The staff and the food are unparalleled.

Always pleased with the service and food anytime I visit The Gem. My only gripe is that I always forget theyre closed on Mondays... Ive more than once had cravings for The Gem on Mondays & forgot about their hours until I pulled up to find the parking lot empty.

This place was packed! The line was out the door and it was easy to see why. The food was delicious and the prices were exactly what they should have been. The staff were clearly well trained and used to the rush. They moved quickly and efficiently, but were still polite and friendly to everyone they interacted with. Ill be coming back again.

I am originally from Syracuse and enjoy coming here when I am in town. I always find something yummy on the menu. I especially love the selection of pies! The servers are always friendly and attentive. Portions are generous and the prices are good. Will continue to come back here for the friendly service, comfortable vibe, and delicious food!

Not only do they have the best food, staff and menu around, they totally follow recommended guidelines to combat covid. I watched staff completely disinfecting booths between customers, and mask-wearing is followed! I feel safe here. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
