For my first composite boat, I bought a used NDK Romany Classic that needed some TLC. To the one, the veterans in my paddling club each said, Just talk to Rhonda as if who Rhonda was went without saying. Rhonda is the owner and operator at Kayakers Go Coastal, and it is now obvious to me why she is everyones immediate go-to person for kayak repairs. Rhonda fit me into her calendar in time for my first surf-kayaking trip, performed gorgeous repairs of multiple spider-cracking spots and gouges, charged me less than the quote (which was already very reasonable), discounted my purchase of other gear from her shop, helped me load my boat, was absolutely delightful, and doted on my dog while I was strapping down my boat! Go play hard in your kayaking with full confidence that Rhonda can fix whatever you break :)
Rhonda was wonderful, we needed advice on some minor repairs on my 20 year old Eddyline merlin, she showed us how to do them ourselves. She is so helpful and positive. She is a treasure.
About a month ago I picked up a GearLab Kalleq, carbon fiber, Greenland style paddle from this shop. I had been researching for a few months on Greenland style paddles and toyed with the idea of making my own, but with the cost for the tools, my labor, and the risk of not getting it right the first time, I decided to just purchase the paddle. I have been able to get out on the water with it a few times so far. This is a pricey paddle; however, I am very happy with it. It is light, extremely quiet—I snuck up on a fisherman yesterday—and well balanced. The technique is also different. It seems to tell me when I am doing it right or doing it wrong. The feel is very different than a Euro style paddle. Where the Euro paddle the weight is all at the ends, with the Kalleq the weight is spread more uniformly through the paddle. It has a feel as if the power is extended throughout a much longer stroke and the power is there all the way up to when it comes out of the water. It is very hard to describe until you feel it. I am still trying to master the technique. I carry my Euro paddle as my back-up, but I was paddling into a Force 3 or Force 4 wind about two weeks ago and was able to make decent forward progress.Rhonda was very helpful when I was debating on whether to spend the money on this paddle. She impressed me as friendly, very knowledgeable and wanting me to be happy as opposed to just making a sale. Her shop is what I expect of a kayak shop. Quality gear and knowledgeable people who enjoy the sport. If you are in the area, the shop is worth the look.
Great smaller store. Rachel is very helpful.
Any sea kayakers should consider themselves incredibly lucky to have a resource like this shop availible to them. The owner is simply the most knowledgable sea kayaker Ive had the pleasure of interacting with, she was willing to take a bunch of her own time to help me figure out the exact amount of deck line I needed. The products she carries are all best of the best from someone that has tried it all. If youre a kayaker this is probably the best shop within at least 100 miles if not much further. There are things that you can get here, or repairs and customizations that you simply cannot get done anywhere else.
TIP: call ahead and make an appointment to drop your boat off. Do not just drop in!!Repair work came in under the estimate and quicker than I expected. I had a fiberglass Necky double that had major structural issues in the stern. The estimate was $400. Final price was $356. Rhonda also ordered me a custom made neoprene hatch cover. She also gave me very good advice on how to remove oxidization and restore the gel coat to like-new appearance. Very easy to work with and generous in her experience and knowledge.
My experience at Kayakers Go Coastal was 100% positive. My kayak fell off the roof of my car and I needed to have my cock pit rim reattached. The repair is very tidy and looks solid. Various cracks and dings have been patched and the gel coat nicely matched to that they dont even notice. The Kayakers Go Coastal shop is easy to get and surprisingly well stocked for a small shop. Rhonda, the owner, is super nice and easy to work with, plus, she really knows what shes doing.
As a shop owner and paddlesports coach, Rhonda at Kayakers Go Coastal is my go to for repairs. High quality, economical, and prompt- she takes care of her clients! Highly recommend.
Rhonda is passionate at helping paddlers get out there with opinions and advice about gear, boat configurations and repairing dry suits. She hasnt repaired my boat, but she helped a lot with advice on repairing suits, though she also repairs suits too ... I think she does a lot of them. Was real helpful when it was time to purchase a new paddle. Thanks Rhonda.
Rhonda knows what shes doing, and she took good care of my boat and its unique glitches. She went out of her way to troubleshoot with me on how to best fix the problem, and I also learned how to do a few things myself. She actually teaches a class on how to do your own repairs, which I would think is a worthy investment. I dont live in the area, but Id sure recommend to anyone who does to sign up and learn some great techniques for repairing boats.
I recently purchased a carbon two-piece greenland paddle directly from a company. Upon receiving the paddle I noticed that it was chipped/cracked on the inside of the ferrule where the two pieces join together. The paperwork that shipped along with the paddle as well as the company’s website clearly stated that their products would be “free of material and construction defects for one year from the date of purchase.” I took pictures of the damaged areas and emailed them to the company as their directions explained. After a few days I received an email back from the company stating that this was simply cosmetic damage and would not effect the performance or longevity of the paddle so they were not willing to do anything for me in terms of replacing my paddle. While this may be true, I was blown away based on the company’s response because it was both a material and a construction defect! Needless to say I was frustrated and disheartened by the whole situation. The only thing I could think to do was contact an authorized dealer and at the very least try to have them put me in contact with a rep for the company so I could further explain my situation and see if I could get my paddle replaced. Expecting to hear “ Did you purchase th paddle from us.....No? I’m sorry there’s nothing we can do for you.” (which is totally fair) I made a call to Kayerks Go Coastal in WA which is one of maybe six places in the US that carry this companies paddles. A friendly voice answered, it was Rhonda, the owner of the business. After explaining my situation to her she couldn’t believe it, and took immediate action! She emailed the companies rep and assured me I would be taken care of regardless if I had purchased th padddle from her or not. A few days later I received an email from the company apologizing for the inconvenience and confusion. It also stated that a replacement paddle was on its way via express courier shipping directly to my home! The point is, Rhonda did not need to help me after hearing about my unfortunate situation, as I did not even purchase the paddle from her. She chose not only to hear me out, but take action in an atempt to right the situation and was successful. This not only speaks volumes about what kind of business owner Rhonda is but says so much about her character. I’ve not met her in person but I think it’s safe to say there needs to be more people like Rhonda in this world who are willing to not only listen but to help others given the chance, especially since she is one of the few retailers in the US try carrying high end kayaking products. Thank you so very much to you Rhonda and I wish Kayaks Go Coastal the very best in the future!
Rhonda was super-helpful and enthusiastic about a roll class and I can not wait to check out her shop.
Pro shop that will work with you to get the results you want. Brought back a well used Mariner Express to a new life.
The GO TO place/person for kayak repairs and upgrades... Rhonda is knowledgable about all types of kayak repairs and friendly. She placed a keelstrip on one of our boats a few years ago. She is repairing one of our boats with fiberglass cracking and a pretty big chip that broke off the bottom... were getting a keel strip on this one too.
