Ive been going here for a little over a year and a half and I love it! I drive about 45 minutes almost every day to go to classes here. Theyre basically family at this point. Brian is a very patient, helpful instructor. The other members are very easy to work with and willing to help each other when needed. It doesnt matter how old you are, if youre new and have no prior experience in Muay Thai, this is a great place to start.

Got here about a year ago I was recommended here from a friend. This place is great Brian is a great teacher and super knowledgeable. I had 0 experience in Muay Thai prior to coming here but have always wanted to try it. I was very happy to find a gym where the coach will be hands on with you. So places you go they show you a kick and send you to a bag but not here you actually get to learn and in a welcoming and stress free atmosphere.Ps :It’s so good I drive an hr away to come here even though there are places closer to me.

I recently moved my 13-year-old daughter to this gym in June after speaking to Kru Brian about my daughter’s desire to step up her training. After her first class she never looked back and has excelled in her physical ability in addition to growing as a young woman. This kid wouldn’t even order her own food a year ago at a restaurant and now her confidence is through the roof. She fully intends to compete at some point and again, something that wasn’t even a discussion 12 months ago. I often just sit back and watch the training and a few things consistently stand out. Kru Brian and his team work equally with everyone there’s no doubt about that. It doesn’t matter if your skill set is a 0 or a 10 your provided with consistent and equal training with Kru Brian and his team. That means a lot to someone whose dealing with the insecurities of picking up something like this for the first time. The gym is full of individuals who look and are about the culture. For someone foreign to that sort of environment it can be overwhelming the training is serious. However, this gym from the top of the organization to the bottom is full of individuals who are completely down to earth and respectful. In my experience not all gyms operate this way and sometimes you can feel the tension resonating in the air. Not Freestyle it’s a completely inclusive environment trust me on this. I have posted maybe one review in my entire life however, I felt like I needed get out there and recommend this location to anyone that’s looking for self-improvement. I’ll quote my daughter “Daddy I’m never leaving that gym it feels like where I belong” her words

Brian and his team have done a phenomenal job in the development and confidence in my son. The implementation of Jiu Jitsu to Muay Thai classes has been great as it offers a well rounded approach to self defense tactics. I discovered Freestyle Muay Thai when a friend invited me to try it out. Before that, I was only interested in boxing so I was only going to try it out temporarily while searching for a boxing gym. Fast forward two years and Im glad I stayed with them. Ive had a fantastic experience during my time there, met some amazing people and gained a real love for Muay Thai. Scott and Brian are remarkable trainers with a contagious passion for the art, as well as a wealth of knowledge gained from some of the greatest Thai fighters of our time. The gym as a whole fosters a supportive, no-ego environment that allows everyone to make the most of their time there and quickly improve their skills. Everyone is friendly and the more experienced members are always happy to help out newer members. I found that even if I didnt have the motivation to train, I never regretted making myself go.

First off I would like thank Freestyle Muay thai for an amazing experience. Since I was a kid I was always practicing martial arts, then trained in amateur boxing, and the quality of training here is the best I have received. Though life made me stop doing those sports I loved I always thought I would come back to combat sports at some point in my adult life. While in Tampa Ive been to a few places and either the training was not as high quality as expected or the instructors were not as interested in teaching. Fortunately these arent problems youll find here. Brian Cleary is someone who cares about the quality of his teaching and takes joy in the improvement of his students. His muay thai wisdom is also impressive. His brother Scott likes to drill techniques until theyre as good as they possibly could be in that session and his attention to small details is impecable. It was an honor to learn muay thai from them. Now there is a BJJ program ran by Professor James Dorner and its just as good as the muay thai program (just wish there was more haha). James is someone who combines both the passion and the attention to detail that is found in the muay thai program. Ive never grappled in my life but James took the time to improve my ground game to something I can expand further as I progress in my martial arts training. He and his students also made it a fun experience. I now consider James a personal friend and it was also an honor to learn from him as well.If you’re looking for a place to improve your striking and ground game, I highly recommend this institution, you wont regret it. I would stay if it only it werent that I have to move due to work.To Brian, Scott and James, thank you for everything. Thank you for making me fall in love with martial arts again. And I hope to see you all soon!Franky

Having absolutely no previous experience, I just started Muay Thai a few weeks ago with the head trainer, Brian! He is so professional, down- to- earth, and really knows his Muay Thai. Hes trained professionally in Thailand and has a passion both for the art and the culture as well. He makes sure that you are not only learning and practicing the moves properly, but are also getting a great workout! Even after the first session, I immediately felt comfortable working with him, especially knowing that I would be getting the best and most authentic training possible in Tampa! Definitely choose Freestyle Muay Thai over any other location, you wont regret it!

When I moved to Tampa, I was extremely nervous about finding a quality Muay Thai gym. I trained for a year in Savannah, GA in a very close-knit gym under a former Tiger Muay Thai fighter with 63 pro fights. I definitely didn’t see myself finding that elsewhere. My fears were realized when I tried out one of the other gyms in the area. It had a very businesslike “people factory” feel. With only a year’s worth of experience, I felt pretty confident that I was one of the most proficient people there. Then I visited Freestyle Muay Thai. Within a week I knew it was my new home gym. Freestyle is everything I could have hoped for. This gym teaches authentic Muay Thai in a no-ego environment that fosters learning. Kru Brian and his brother Scott are amazing instructors that take the time to break things down and push you to continuously improve. They both regularly visit Thailand and train in some of the top gyms in the world, so you know they’re giving you quality information. There is no one here to bully you around or embarrass you. Everyone is treated with respect, and day 1 newbies are treated exactly the same as the most experienced fighters. We train hard and we push one another. Just to put it into perspective, I drive an hour one-way to go to Freestyle, when I could drive 20 minutes to Tampa Muay Thai or some other gym. I am literally always learning, and couldn’t be happier with where I ended up. If you want to fight, learn to defend yourself, build your confidence or just get in better shape, this is the place to be.

When I first decide that I wanted to learn Muay Thai I tried the free classes offered at a couple of different gyms. My first class at Freestyle prompted me to sign up on the spot. Brian is an amazing instructor with all the patience in the world, which is needed when I continuously do the same technique wrong! He is more than generous with his time and knowledge and the overall environment of the gym is welcoming and friendly.I attend classes as much as possible and in just 7 months I have seen the positive changes to my body physically and I have noticed the progress I have made with learning Muay Thai. The conditioning, technical drills, and sparring are all a great workout and I leave class feeling like I made even more progress and learned something new.

I discovered this gym while traveling in Tampa for a few days. I had never tried Muay Thai before and started with a private lesson with Kru Brian, who then invited me back later the same evening to try a free class. Everything exceeded my expectations. Brian and his brother Scott are not just knowledgeable in the art of Muay Thai, they’re observant and insightful coaches. They had a children’s class before the evening class I took and they were as apt with the children as they were with the adults. The other participants in the class I took were very welcoming. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my first day of Muay Thai and can’t recommend Freestyle Muay Thai enough. I look forward to training here again on my next trip to Tampa.

I practiced martial arts in my younger years. Im now over 50. I have always wanted to get back into it and Muay Thai was my preferred martial art to join. Ive been training at FMT for about 6 weeks possibly more Ive lost track. Brian is a very kind and gentle natured person and it shows in his instructions. the work outs arent soft but well worth the effort. after a three class day I was sore for 3 of 4 days, my fault I over did it. but no regrets o loved it. I look forward to every day I can go. I lift weights and mountain bike regularly. the training Ive received has made me a stronger rider. the trails I ride arent easy. I look forward to my progress I hope youll give FMT a try Im sure youll love it as well

I started training at Freestyle Muay Thai back in July of 2012 and have no regretted it one bit. From affordable rates to one on one training unlike some of the other facilities that seem to be only after your money. Kru Brian has been a practitioner of this martial arts for years and has traveled to Thailand for training where the sport originated. Needless to say, Kru Brian knows what he is doing when instructing the class. With numerous heavy bags, speed bags, and a ring, this facility is perfect for training.

I have let myself go the last few years and gained a considerable amount of weight. I tried to lose some of the pounds by lifting weights for a few months but progress was very slow. I decided to look at some Muay Thai gyms around my area since I have a few years experience practicing the martial art. I remember it being a great cardio exercise. I searched on google and found Freestyle Muay Thai. I decided, what the heck Ill give it a shot!My first visit, I had a little trouble looking for Freestyle Muay Thai as I wasnt familiar with the area. As I stepped into the gym, I found it to be fairly large, complete with heavy bags, speed bags and a boxing ring. You know youre in a good gym if they have all the equipments for training. Bryan introduced himself as the head trainer. Super ripped and very friendly. I was a little bit early for the training so no one has arrived yet. We chatted for a little bit and he told me that he trained professionally in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Pictures of his training and fights could be seen hanging on the wall of his office. I was impressed and assured that I am going to be trained by someone who knows what he was doing. As soon as all the other gym members arrived, we started the training. I noticed that there wasnt too many people training. I realized that Bryan keeps the class small, between 4 to 8 people at a time so that he could give enough attention to everyone. The structure of the training was pretty standard. We started with skipping and jumping on tires as a warm up, techniques, shadow boxing, heavy bag work and finally pad work. I worked up quite a sweat, but it wasnt as intense as I thought it would be. Bryan knew how to pace the workout well. I didnt feel like dying at the end and went out of the gym feeling great. As the months progressed, training became more and more intense as I got fitter. Bryan would teach new techniques during every session so it never gets boring. He would periodically have tests to see where we are at in terms of our techniques and fitness. I think its great that he has tests as it ensures that we stay hungry to improve ourselves.Summary:In just 4 months of training,1) I lost 15% body fat2) Gained 10 pounds of muscle3) Lost 16 pounds of weight4) Fine tuned my Muay Thai skills5) Made a lot of awesome friendsI highly recommend this place, be it for weight loss or to train to be a fighter one day. Positive environment and a fun place to be. No one can ask more from a Muay Thai gym!

I stopped going here because this guy basically stole from me. I trained here for a couples of months no problem. The next month came and I paid for that month of class even though I could barely attend because of my (newly acquired) demanding work schedule. Before the start of the next month I knew I wasnt going to be able to attend so I spoke with Brian and let him know to cancel the automatic payments, he told me he would. Well this man lied because the money was taken from me anyway. I called him to resolve the issue and he basically told me oh well, nothing I can do about it. I went to talk to him in person to further explain why I could no longer attend and would like to have my money back and this guy completely blew me off, he just wouldnt give me back my money.. He basically robbed me. He was a decent instructor but what kind of a guy steals from his students? If youre thinking about training here, dont. There are much more qualified (and more importantly, honest) instructors in the tampa bay area than Brian Cleary.

Freestyle Muay Thai is the REAL DEAL! Owner Brian Cleary is a certified personal trainer who has lived, trained, fought, and won in Thailand. Dont be fooled by some BJJ guy who has taken a block of striking classes at the local MMA gym or worst yet some 1980s point-Karate tournament guy who has learned to aim his roundhouse kick to the leg and calls it Muay Thai. This is NOT Rex-Kwon-Do, learn Muay Thai from a MAN who understands the techniques, history, and cultural significance of the art.
