Had 2 great experiences so far with Scott and his team at Mcilvain. They did a great job at replacing water pump and rear shocks on my Porsche 911 at a reasonable price. Also took my car there for inspection before a long road trip and because my car stereo was not turning on. They inspected the car free of charge and even tried changing the fuse on the stereo (requires removal from dash) before determining I fried it during a jump start. No charge for that either. I dont know what more you can ask for from a mechanic - good rates, great advice, and friendly people. Also Nate took me for a ride in his car to demonstrate his Numeric short shifter plus cables so Id understand how the car would change. Dont think I could see myself going anywhere else.
Excellent service and very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to service their Porsche.
Scott and his team do excellent work in a timely manner. My definite go to mechanic for Porsche maintenance and repair. 👍
Ive been going to Scott with my 987 for 3 years now and the service is phenomenal. Not only are Scott and the mechanics extremely knowledgeable with a wide array of Porsche models but they will also take time to explain everything in detail which I really appreciate as an engineer. Honest, very responsive to calls, excellent customer service, and work is performed quickly and always meets schedule. Highly recommended.
Scott the owner is so very conscientious and knowledgeable about all Porsches and particularly Porsche Cayenne Diesels. Service was impeccable and it was a pleasure working with his receptionist. She is so personable and always makes our experience a pleasure. If you’re looking for an independent Porsche mechanic this is the right place!
I have high expectations, as a car guy. Ive owned many Porsches for over 30 years. Been to many shops and dealerships in various states I lived throughout the US. .I thought my last mechanic in the North East was exceptional, then moved to AZ last year. One of my PCA AZ friends recommended Mcilvain,. I couldnt been happier with Scott and his team. They are no nonsense, direct, honest, really, really know Porsches, and dont oversell. Highly recommended!
I cannot recommend Mcilvain Motors highly enough. In dealing with a LOT of mechanics over my years, Mcilvain is the top of the heap. Theyre honest, reliable and fair. I took my Porsche to the dealership b/c I thought theyd be the authority on how to fix my car....$7k later, still no results. I took my car here and they knew my model, knew what might be wrong and they fixed it...I was thrilled!Bring your Porsche here 1st...they are the most honest and trustworthy mechanics I have encountered.
I have been a customer of Mcilvain motors for the past eight years. Scott and his staff have been by far the best set of Porsche mechanics I have met over a 19 year period of owning Porsche vehicles. Experts in all areas of repair, highly professional, customer focused and with the lowest hourly cost that I could find in the Phoenix metropolitan area. I would rate them 10/10 in every category.
This is the third time I have used this company and once again they did not disappoint. Work was performed on time, as quoted and to a very high standard. Inspection revealed additional work required, and this was also performed perfectly and on time, with old parts kept for inspection upon car pickup. Absolutely recommend this business.
Ive been taking my P Cars to Scott (Ben) for 10 years now! No B.S. Great Labor Rates, and Actually Factory Trained! These guys are Very accommodating to my schedule, and car is done when they said it would be! Did I mention No Surprises! :)
Don’t say I didn’t warn you. DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL! So after taking my car to the dealership diagnosing the problem I decided I would support a small business instead of going with my normal dealership service. Boy was I wrong. I decided to go with this shop to have some repairs done and and oil change. The shop was communicative so that was okay. My service was complete and it was time to pick up my car. I paid my $3600 for repairs and got in my car and headed home. Something was not right. My luxury car now sounded like a diesel truck! It was so loud and rough sounding, nothing like I left it. I called the shop and told them about the never before loudness of my car and let them know I wanted to bring it back because something was not right. So I drop my car back off couple days later and they look over my car and say they can’t hear anything abnormal. It’s very obviously loud and something is clearly wrong. So I tell them I will come in and show the mechanic what I’m talking about and they agree I should come in and explain. I get in the car with the mechanic and show him exactly what’s going on and he says oh yes this usually happens with these cars around this mileage it’s the motor mounts! I tell him this is absolutely not how I left my car this was never an issue till after this shop worked on it. He seemed not to care and said they have sent me a quote on what it would cost to fix it he then says is there anything else I can help you with I say no. He gets out of the car and goes into the shop. I sit in my car in shock about what just happened. This was my worst nightmare trusting a small business with my car only for my car to come out with more issues than it went in with. It’s bad business and I wouldn’t trust them at all who knows what they’ve done to my car, that I now have to go fix.
I live in NJ, but just bought a 997.1 C2S in Tempe. Before I did, I got a PPI at McIlvain Motors and Scott and his team did an excellent job. I highly recommend them. Not only were they thorough (including scoping the cylinders and cutting the oil filter), they took video and pictures of everything and then Scott got on the phone with me and we went through each bit one at a time. Each area of the car, each nick on the paint, each screen from the very deep diagnostic they ran, including over revs and the performance of the intermediate shaft (an indicator of IMS bearing health). These guys know Porsches down to the .1 and .2s and all the little things to look out for.Scott even drove the car for the day and reported back on the strength of the engine, the status of the suspension and engine mounts, and even if the heated seats and interior lights work.In the end, I had a very clear idea of the condition of the car and could purchase with complete confidence, which I did.But it didnt stop there. I asked Scott to replace the water pump and do a couple of other little jobs to basically complete the 60k maintenance on the car so it was all set when I received it. They did it all and their prices were very fair.AND THEN they kept the car garaged for me for 11 days while the seller arranged transport. They even removed a decal the selling dealer had left on the car.All told, total class, very communicative, easy to work with, and generally great guys.I cannot recommend them highly enough for Porsche repairs or PPI work.
Excellent attentive service as always. Highly recommend for competent professional Porsche mechanical work.
Expert knowledge of Porsche. Provided advise and recommendations for service and necessary adjustments. Everything done professionally meeting schedules and budget estimates.
Its all about being genuine, honest & the extremely positive attitude to listen & work with their customers. Recently moved over from another state to Phoenix, it was nerve wrecking trying to search for an auto service shop to maintain a Porsche 997S & an Audi Q5 that are no longer under warranty. Were so thankful that we came across Mcilvain Motors. Scott, Ben & team are just exceptional. Again, its simple, customer is really taken care of through diligent diagnostics backed by their extensive knowledge & experience on these brands, and then items that require work are the only ones recommended for service or repair, and the prices are very reasonable. Thank you very much Mcilvain Team!
This place employs a group of the nicest people you can meet.
After noticing a small coolant leak on my 911, I contacted Mcilvain Motors via email to get their thoughts on the repair. Response was extremely fast and included a rough estimate for the perceived repairs. Based on positive reviews online and the friendly correspondence through email, I decided to give them a try. They ended up doing a fantastic job on the repair (new water pump) and my car is running like a top, which gives me a lot of confidence driving in the AZ summer heat. The whole experience was very good and being new to the Valley, its nice to have found a good indy shop for future repairs.
They performed a PPI for me on a 121,000 mile 996 C4. I have since purchased the car and had it shipped to me in NM. I cannot say enough in praise of their thoroughness, courtesy and knowledge. They even held the car for me until a shipper could arrive for pick-up.No doubt, if I lived anywhere near the Phoenix area, they would be my go-to shop.
Wonderful service! Everyone there is incredibly nice and knowledgeable. Prices are very reasonable and they take time to explain everything to you. You won’t go wrong taking your car to them.
Mcilvain Motors is a godsend for Porsche owners. Scott knows everything the dealers do but does not charge an arm and a leg for his trustworthy capable service.Dont waste time shopping around for a highly qualified non-dealer mechanic. Your beautiful Porsche deserves quality care and maintenance, so look no further.
Scott and Ben have been awesome to work on my 911. Straight forward communication. Accurate in problem solving. What a great opportunity to have factory trained mechanics work in your car and allow you to be a part of the planning process. I have owned 911,s for over 30 years and have had the opportunity to have many fine people service my cars. After working with most of the dealers and indies in the valley, I can truly say these guys are the best combination of knowledge, accountability and value. Did I mention friendliness:)
All team members at Mcilvain were outstanding. Their automotive knowledge is exceptional and service unmatched. I feel so fortunate to have their team on my side.
After getting subpar service from another shop, they handled the repairs and got me back on the road in no time. Prices were pleasant as well. Definitely going back.
My HistoryOk, we all look and take a chances on shops that we dont know for the first time, we read reviews and if you know someone that takes there car to that shop we make our decision. I bought my 997 Cs going on 3 years now, with 100k miles, great shape runs great but need more power, did my first dyno @ goodspeed 357hp @ 7k RPM 119 MPH. I did all add on from FABSPEED and got it Tuned Now thats Power.. Blew up engine on the 101 wont tell you how.. Met Stott and Ben while looking for a engine and liked what i saw, Scott gave me choices also the internet. We found a used engine with 49k miles from a 07. litter did they( Scott and Ben) known of me i can hold my own with wrenches. I weighed my time and value and it was a no brainer, Four weeks after engine arrived i am driving. Car has more power now than before i can feel it. Second week put the car on the lift to see what it looks like and liked what i saw. I can call and talk to Scott or Ben and ask questions at any time, like that. Ok How fast am i now dying to know, Scott said Dyno not that good for engine and i said ok. What the hell it is only $$. 405 @ 7K @ 139, sorry Scott had to know. Any one reading this, take a chance you will see what i saw the first time. Derek Carter aka ISLANDAUpdate 7/27/2020Took the car in this year for wheel alignment after I went to coilovers, At the same time Had the errors clared because the battery went dead on the car. Thanks Stott and BenUpdate 12/3/2020Took car in for a oil change and look over today after a Pine Top run had a lot of fun, Car is running grate. Thanks Scott and Ben
The staff and mechanics were professional and kept me well informed as they repaired my clutch. The Porsche drives like new again! They are also Veteran friendly and offered me a Veteran discount!
Excellent! Scott and the crew are experts, highly recommend the shop.
I have used this business before and their attention to detail is impeccable. They take the time to answer questions you may have and their prices are very fair. I do like the fact that they keep the parts they replaced to show you what was wrong. I would trust Scott and Ben with any of my cars.
Amazing shop. Im in the process of selling my Porsche so wont see them again for awhile. But they were fantastic from doing my PPI when I was buying all the way through all the maintenance I ever needed. Very open and honest, friendly, and affordable.
Ben and Scott are exactly who you want to be interacting with when it comes to Porsche repairs. I felt like they were very reasonable, quick to diagnose, and Carol provided updates almost daily as progress was made. Obviously the parts costs are high (its a Porsche, not a Honda Civic), but the labor costs were lower than I anticipated which solidifies them as my go-to for all future maintenance. A+
We have been clients of Mcilvain Motors for a few years and have used them for regularly scheduled maintenance and for those issues we never saw coming. The one thing that is worth it’s weight in gold is an honest, talented and a reasonably priced mechanic you can trust. This is what we get when we take our car to Scott Mcilvain. His passion for Porsche extends to his dedication to getting your Porsche back on the road in perfectly repaired condition. I recommend Mcilvain Motors to anyone who values their Porsche and wants nothing less than an expert team taking care of it.SincerelyJoseph and Christine Velez
Ben & Scott both jumped on my car when it arrived, and I was in and out in an hour! Great team work, awesome service, and excellent knowledge of Porsche vehicles. Will definitely be my go-to shop from now on.
If you are here you are looking for a solid recommendation for a Porsche mechanic. Look no further. I have tried a couple other Porsche specialists in the valley and all were good, one stands out. Scott McIlvan and team not only had a competitive price for replacing my IMS bearing & clutch. They were thorough in their assessment of what needed to be done and did more than asked for the initial quote.Scott took me on a tour of the shop explaining his experience as well as an in-depth discussion of the solution and what they were going to do. He provided pictures both before and after of the condition and repair as well as a comprehensive look at potential other trouble spots for my now 20 year old 911. He did all of this all without the salesmenship you ordinarily get from a mechanic. (think: oh well, you need this, and this, and this... and the competitive estimate that brought you in balloons) - That didnt happen.I highly recommend Scott and team and will continue to have my car serviced there whenever it needs it.
Scott and crew were timely, professional and very helpful performing service on my 991. They explained the service, shared their insights about my car and were generally very helpful about any questions I had. I highly recommend Mcilvain.
Scott and his team always provide top class servicing. Highly recommend them for any/all of your Porsche needs.
All I can say is if you own a Porsche, you have take it here. The service provided from Scott and Ben is remarkable. I tried another Tempe shop that was highly recommend. They had my car for over two weeks and just kept giving me the run around with no results in site. Just kept saying I needed this part and that part to repair my Porsche. I left that shop and drove straight to Mcilvan Motors and within two days they had my car running better than new with zero parts needed! Very Honest! They will tell you exactly what you need and how long it will take.Their prices are literally 50-60% less expensive that any Porsche dealership in town for the same work and same high quality workmanship. Mcilvain has earned my business for all my cars. Thank you Scott and Ben
Definitely the best Porsche shop in the valley. Hopefully I wont have to be back any time soon, but its the only place Ill take my car.
These guys are awesome. I just bought a car and they went well above and beyond to make sure it was safe to drive. Ill be back for sure, its hard to find honest shops like this.
Mcilvain is the premier shop in Arizona to service and maintain your Porsche. The folks that run this shop live, breathe, and eat Porsche every day, and have for decades. They are on another level, and not only are they highly trained, and extremely qualified, but their zeal and passion for what they do shines through. Conversations Ive had with Scott and Ben are proof. When discussing which fuel to use in my Porsche, I learned that these guys actually went out and tested gas at a variety of local stations to verify whether representations of Octane levels, etc. are accurate. And guess what - some are not. Knowing which service stations to trust is invaluable information. Scott also devotes personal time to Porsche Club of America and is their chosen go-to expert on mechanical issues. His articles published in their magazine are well-written, on-point, and excellent in explaining concepts that are important to all Porsche owners. Keep up the GREAT WORK!
Did a great job on my ppiim from chicago and felt like i was there with the follow up call and pictures sent from ppi.would def recthank you!
Great shop, explained everything. Went above and beyond expectations.
Absolutely Professional & Exceptional Service & Repairs. Will Use Again
Scott and his team at Mcilvain Motors do a fantastic job all around. Theyre experts at what they do and the value compared to taking to a dealership is phenomenal. Dont hesitate to take your car to Mcilvain Motors!
Awesome. Very fair, trust worthy and honest. Brought my 19 year old Poirsche up to 2020 standards. THANK YOU
Scott and Ben are fantastic. My check-engine light came on. I live about 250 miles from the shop--nowhere near any Audi mechanic Id trust. They walked through troubleshooting steps with me and were able to help me out. I appreciate them.
Pretty honest nice guys with your personal interests in mind. Theyre detail oriented and will take the time to explain everything thats going on with the car.
Reasonably priced, quick, transparent. great experience working with the whole team there.
These are car guys, who intimately know their skills, the cars that theyre working on, and have been factory trained. Not dealer mechanics who may need to answer to priorities other than your cars condition. There are rare times when you can hand the keys to someone and walk away, completely comfortable with how your baby is going to be treated.
Amazingly competent and they reasonably priced. Thats not something you can say for most Porsche services. (My Porsche is a 911 turbo)Man If you want your Porsche serviced or repaired and dont want to be robbed, go to Mcilvain Motors. You will thank me for the tip and never regret it.
Scott and his team are great! They have been servicing our 2002 911 Turbo and 2006 Cayenne S for years. Always professional, on time and great work at a reasonable cost. Would not go anywhere else!
The service was for a Porsche Cayman R which I autocross. Timely oil service and checked the brakes since it is raced. I was told brakes at 50%. Very professional and honest folks. I will return for service.
Ben and Scott were able to get me in right away to fix my leaking coolant issue on my 2002 Porsche 986. The problem was fixed quickly without unnecessary charges. Great work!!
Scott, Ben and team focus on one thing (Porsche) - and do it better than anyone in the Phoenix area. I have lived in 4 states and 3 countries, and have always had a Porsche and I would put Mcilvain Motors up against any Porsche repair that I have experienced. Pricing can be high at times - but only when something is absolutely required (i.e., I do not feel that Mcilvain Motors does repairs that arent absolutely needed). What I like most is the repair folks are personable, approachable and talk about solutions that work for the customer. For example, a transmission leak I experienced could require a $3000 overhaul, which for my year of Porsche would be difficult to do. Instead, Ben and Scott found a way to fix the problem (O-rings, epoxy, etc) and then test and see. The cost was less than 25% what I thought I would have to pay. This makes me want to come back -- because I trust them. And my Porsche the past 4-5 years under Mcilvanes care, has never run better (with less stops at the repair shop). Well done, Scott.
Just let them do their thing on your car. So thorough, so knowledgable, so patient, such good value - if only they had a paint gauge they would be perfect - that is a joke but also true. Anyway Ben and Scott are the bomb. They LOVE the cars they service and it shows every moment with every interaction. Cannot recommend them enough. david
Love this place. Their idea of we are booked, its gonna be a wait is a wait of less than 2 weeks. Its clear they know Porsches, and have a ton of passion for them. They go the extra mile and explain the nuts and bolts of what was fixed. Wouldnt go anywhere else!
Best Porsche Service in the Valley! Scott and Team are great! Whether you need something as simple as an oil change or as complex as an engine drop, I highly recommend this team!
Knowledgeable, friendly, and reasonable prices. Scott and team are a wonderful ally to fully enjoy your Porsche. They replaced an engine in my Cayman S and the car drove perfectly out of the gate. No rattles, no low coolant, not a single adjustment required. Great quality workmanship that I can afford.
Scott and the team did a great job servicing my 911 and Cayman. Very knowledgeable and affordable. Plus, they can help you get set up for your first track day!
These guys are about 25 miles from my house so it’s not exactly a short drive, but there is nowhere else I would take my car for service. Top notch Porsche mechanics, no upselling BS, and prices that are far more reasonable than the dealership. As long as I live in Phoenix and drive a Porsche, I will use this shop.
Scott and his team are the best in the auto mechanic business. Very straight forward, pricing is great compared to the other shops that I got quotes from. If you have any questions they explain things in great detail and you cant beat how much his techs know about Porsche.
Very happy with the work from this shop on my Audi. High quality work at a reasonable price with minimal wait.
Scott and Ben do fantastic work. Highly recommended for anything Porsche or other brands for that matter.
So grateful to have found this place! Called around to a few shops and these guys were not only the best price but the nicest and most knowledgeable. The whole experience was amazing and I had confidence they new what they were doing more than the Porsche dealership. They immediately knew the common thermostat housing issue my Panamera had. Talked me thru the process and took pictures to show me the before and after! They also saved the parts to show me incase I had any questions. Will definitly go to them for all my Porsche maintenance!! Thanks Scott and Ben!
Scott was wonderful in diagnosing the problem over the phone.
Repairs completed in a timely manner for less than half of what most other places quoted me. Parts cost was to the cent what I would have paid purchasing myself.
Knowledgeable about Porsche’s. Stand behind their work. Attractive pricing compared to dealerships.
On this last occasion, McIlvain Motors serviced four of our vehicles in a matter of 10 days. Two required track prep and two others brake fluid and oil flush etc. As always, McIlvain did excellent work and discussed required repairs and prep in detail. One of the things I enjoy most about using McIlvain is that I learn something new about our cars nearly every time I take a vehicle in.
Just bought a 2009 Cayman and wanted to get it checked out and serviced. I had contacted Scott via the website a couple of years ago when I owned a 2007 Cayman and asked him about an issue I was having. He answered my question so I could get the problem taken care of and didnt try to get me to bring the car in or up sell me anything and I really appreciated that.Recently, when I was searching for my new to me Cayman, nearly every dealership I spoke to recommended McIlvain Motors. So, even though I live an hour away on the west side, when I bought the car I made the decision to take the car to McIlvain and it did not disappoint. Ben serviced my car, ran diagnostics and gave it a thorough check up. Finding a great mechanic/shop that charges reasonable prices and you can trust is very rare but having found McIlvain, it will certainly be the shop that maintains my Porsche.
In and out in an hour for routine oil change with walk through and explanation afterwards. Scott, flashlight in hand shining on the underside of my Boxster on the lift, gave me a step by step explanation on how to do the oil changes myself. What business shares that kind of information with customers? Unrushed & completely answered all my questions about other maintenance issues. Professional, friendly, reasonable and efficient. Nothing more I could have asked for: thanks very much, Scott.
I see why this shop has all 5 strars... I would give them 10 stars...seriously.I was relocating to Sacramento CA and need to know the status of my 2013 5 series with 100+ miles from a RELIABLE mechanic, so I took it to Mcilvain Motors and they looked my car over and I mean they looked it over...smile.Came back for the analysis and they sat me down and went through what needed to be done and things that I should consider in the future...WITH PICTURES.I had the do both front and rear brake and change the braided serpentine belt. They did excellent work and actually I think they did more work than stated because my car ran like it was 10 years younger.Heres the awesome part, after a week in Sacramento my brake came on and just figured the code was not reset so I called and they told me to find a mechanic and they would take care of the cost. I did and found out that the rear brake sensor cable was snapped. They worked with Sacramento mechanic shop over the phone, issue was resolved at no cost to me with no questions asked...smooth as silk.I know we have delt with situations where there are lots of questions, finger pointing and doubt...DID NOT HAPPEN...went smooth as milk and honey...or silk.👌🙂😉👍
Great people. Very honest. And are very helpful giving you options with the best and least expensive alternatives.
Great shop. Needed a new clutch and Flywheel quick turned it around for me in 2 Days. Clean and knowledgeable team.
Ive taken my old Boxster to McIlvain Motors several times for different tasks: window regulator, spark plugs renewal, complete brake package replacement, oil change. Each time the repair was done right the first time. The owner is a true Porsche expert, most professional and a pleasure to deal with. The place is very clean. The hourly rate is extremely competitive considering all of these. Highly recommended! I will not take my Porsche anywhere else if I can help it.
Big thanks to Scott and his crew to have my GT4 well serviced. They are professional, knowledgeable and patient, and you can tell their enthusiasm in Porsche. If you have a Porsche, you need to bring it here.
I have piece of mind that my car is in the hands of real Porsche experts
Scott and his team come through (once again). Incredibly polite, timely and always fair.
Scott and Ben are both not only very knowledgeable but also very professional. A great place to have my Porsche serviced!
I took my VW Passat to McIlvain Motors for some routine maintenance (oil change, air filter, tire rotation, etc) and could not be happier with the experience. They were promptly ready to work on my car, use genuine parts, and pricing is more than fair. They gave my car a clean bill of health and also told me a couple things that would eventually need done to keep it that way which I greatly appreciate. You can bet when that time comes they will be the only shop I call. So if you dread going to the expensive dealer or run of the mill shops that always “find” a laundry list of things to pressure you into then call Scott & Ben at McIlvain Motors. They are honest, do great work, and are genuinely happy to earn your business!
Scott is outstanding...Not only does he a do a great job. He knows these cars in & out and most importantly...hes honest! Thats why I travel 100 miles each way to have him service my car.
What can I say, there is simply no better place to have your Porsche serviced than Mcilvain Motors. Scott and Ben provide excellent customer service and are extremely knowledgeable about the cars they’re working on. I’ve had extensive work done on my 2002 Porsche Boxster(S) at Mcilvain such as my ims bearing, clutch, flyhwheel, coolant expansion tank, waterpump, etc.. Scott has always been very honest about all the work that needed to be done and the pricing is EXTREMELY FAIR! I haven’t gotten better quotes anywhere else. I highly recommend this shop to everyone in need of repairs for their Porsche!
Scott has treated me and my car with such care he is a true professional who goes above and beyond, and is so knowledgeable about Porsche’s
Courteous professional and did more than was expected
Serious Porsche service very friendly with a nice spacious clean shop.
Scott is the ultimate Porsche service level tech in Phoenix who simply pays the one-on-one attention to your car. The other places are just too busy, high turn over rate, treat employees crappy and in the end leave you with sloppy and expensive service. If you want trustworthy, precise and reliable service from the end guy, Mcllvain is the man for the job! He can drive too! We at Euro Parts West, LLC highly recommend him! Thank you Scott, see you on the next one!!
Awesome service and they know their business
Fast and friendly service. Thanks!
Had them change the oil in my Boxster, very cool place, owner Scott seems very knowledgeable, find them on Yelp for a nice discount, Ill be coming back with no hesitation!
Scott provides great service with the best rates in town. Will be going here for all future maintenance.
Scott is the best, hes always willing to help with any task at hand.
