The Normal Diner has combined the 5 most delicious words....Chicken and Red Velvet Waffles! Wow!! There were two things that made this dish stand out. 1. The beautiful color, crisp, and light sweetness of the waffles was so good, I didnt need butter or syrup (they would have taken away from the flavors) and 2. The chicken was boneless and one of the most juiciest pieces of chicken Ive ever had at a restaurant. This dish delivers MORE THAN EXPECTED! I was so happy when I left and bragged about it to others!By the way, the diner itself is very nice. It was a very clean establishment, bright, open, and colorful. I liked the random pictures on the wall, the multi-colored light fixtures, and the diner seating right up front. The only thing that was a little odd was they cut their menu in half when there is a show at Gammage across the street so that they can get orders out quickly. Unfortunately they do not deviate from that, but its still worth asking.I would definitely love to go back and try the rest of their menu. I would encourage you to do the same! :-)

This was my first time in Phoenix and I had a blast. First thing that morning I went for breakfast. I was the first customer at 7am. I decided on the freshman breakfast with vegan sausage. It was incredible! The eggs were fluffy and so buttery. The home fries were so well seasoned that I didnt even need ketchup. This was the first time Ive been offered vegan sausage as a replacement. It was delightful. I absolutely love this spot. It is without a doubt one of the best eateries in the area! #ashsaidit

Visiting Tempe for a few days, I was happy to find a restaurant that offers food for every meal, including all day breakfast. The service is great and the food is on par with excellence. The chef is very particular about what gets sent out (try the omelettes), it will blow your mind. The staff worked hard and always kept me satisfied, Manny did a great job serving me.The restaurant/bar is attached to The Graduate Hotel (which is also great), but the restaurant is open to public and so it the pool.

I really enjoyed my week going to The Normal. The breakfast was good and decent price. The drinks were nice and cold. The staff was super awesome and friendly (Max, Adan, Antonio and especially Alyssa aka My Boston girl!) they were all attentive and treated me and my co-worker like friends we known forever. Thank you guys for such a good week and making us feel welcome.

The wifey and I stayed at the hotel for the past two nights. The restaurant is currently closed (not sure if it’s being renovated or what have you), but The Normal Bar area I believe serves all the food from the restaurant. We ordered the Eggs Benedict and the three sisters soup (corn, beans, squash). The potatoes that came with the Eggs Benedict were very good, while the Eggs Benny was above average. We were originally given the wrong soup and a young strapping lad waiter was kind to take it back to get us the right soup, but after almost finishing our eggs Benny meal, my wife decided to cancel the soup due to it taking too long. However, the manager brought us the soup anyways, free of charge. My wife loved the three sisters soup, which had a great base to it and pleasant seasonings. We were really glad we got to try it.We are still undecided if we will come back to the hotel in the future, which is mainly due to the unpleasant experience with an older lady at the hotel front desk, not being told that we had to pay for parking, and with our original waitress who only came out to take our order and never checked up on us after that. However, the majority of the other The Normal Bar staff definitely provides us with some great service and we would visit here again.Suggestions: Have the young strapping lad with mid length blond hair share with the other staff at The Normal Bar how he treats guests, because he does a great job at customer service. And maybe have some faint outdoor music for the outdoor seating area. Maybe bring in some staff from the best Graduate Hotels to provide some insight into that they do to provide a great customer service experience.

This place is a hidden gem!! Me and my boyfriend had no idea what we were getting into when we strolled in. The food was absolutely DELICIOUS!! We both walked in thinking it was going to be just all right, but were proven so wrong!! In the best way :) We walked an hour, hour and a half before close and I was randomly craving breakfast. Even though they were done serving it much earlier in the day, the manager on shift ( I believe his name is Maya) got the chef to make me an AMAZING breakfast burrito. My boyfriends burger and fries were so full of flavor, we both tasted each others food and just said Whoa! They have items on the menu that are exclusive to this hole in the wall, as some ingredients are brought straight from Mexico for that authentic flavor. Anyways, we LOVED our experience and will definitely be back!

Where do we begin....? We ordered a frozen margarita. It came from a machine. The manager on duty put the mixture into a plastic cup with roughly 2” of room to the top. He poured in some tequila and vigorously mixed it with a straw. Added no garnish. Charged $9. We then ordered a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. The salad was served in a paper boat with cold chicken and hardly any cheese. That was $12. There is absolutely no sense of urgency. The employees (management included) seem rather bored. Management can’t keep their shirts tucked in or boxers from showing. Maybe the new owner can turn this place around.

Yuck, Yuck, YuckMy husband, son and I went for a late lunch at the Normal diner. The food was just terrible. Both my husband and I had a salad which was so old and limp that it pretty much was inedible. There are much better places to eat in Tempe.

It’s supremely off-putting to order from the bar here. As a local, I use the pool often, for which I’m grateful, and in return I spend a fair amount on drinks and appetizers. But more often than not I’m treated with smug indifference, on the occasions when they actually acknowledge my presence. There’s a palpable arrogance exhaled from the bartenders, far more frequently than friendliness or gratitude.Additionally, prices on the 16oz Tower Station IPA have fluctuated back and forth between $4 and $8 per can. Some days it’s on the happy hour menu, and other days I get a another price from different bartenders. This inconsistency, coupled with the side of disdain I’m often served, make me reluctant as hell to approach the bar anymore.I hope management takes this constructively and can improve the experience for all guests and patrons.

Service has gotten slower every time we’ve gone before a show. Last night my son and I ordered a Caesar salad and cheese quesadilla. Very displeased with this establishment. Not only did they not have sweet tea (unsweetened only but you can add sugar and Make it sweet as explained by the waitress who took our orders) they have root beer in the other restaurant thats only open for breakfast and lunch. So I ordered water. When I asked for a refill on my water the waitress wasnt even smart enough to Make sure to refill the ice in the glass too. We ordered our food. Given the fact that there were 3 cheeseburgers, 1 patty melt and 1 Mac and cheese I Guess they had to go upstairs and milk the cow before they could slaughter it for our meal. After 45 Minutes of waiting without our food, we had to leave. We were on a schedule. I would not suggest this place. But I Guess its ok if youre a college student and dont need to worry about working.

Food was okay-ish however service was poor. We were a large group asked and hence has to sit at two adjacent booths. This resulted in some members of our party switching seats occasionally to talk to other members. We were told quite curtly to not switch seats after ordering because the server will be confused as to who ordered what. Service was also incredibly slow and we got our orders with so much delay that half the party just decided to eat instead of waiting for the food to get cold. Overall we all just felt as if we werent welcome there.

Ive been wanting to try this place since it opened and finally got around to trying it. There were several dishes on the menu that looked interesting but nothing that would make me come back. The Denver omelet was okay but the ingredients werent mixed into the egg, it was more like a egg taco. We ate there before a show last night and the food at the new bar restaurant is not worth even the happy hour prices. We ordered the vegetarian burro options, and honestly Taco Bell tastes better. I use the same canned style beans to make burritos at home, and they taste better. The sourdough bread dish was not tasty and the sauce made me feel horrible afterward, even though the pickled vegetables on that dish were not that bad. Seems like they are trying to do too much too arrogantly. The drinks were not that bad, but they are trying too hard to do stuff outside of typical American style bar food. I wouldnt attempt to try anything else even if I did eat meat. If the burger is not up to par, go here for the drinks alone, even though those arent all that great. This stinks because the old restaurant had an awesome reputation. I cannot talk about lunch or breakfast since we didnt visit there for that. With so many other places close by, dont waste your money here unless you are a hotel visitor and you get a free cocktail as a part of your room rate. It is sad because the staff has a great attitude, but that doesnt sell awful food.

No more waffles, Cajun fries, or anything else good from their previous menu. The fries were bland, the breakfast burrito tasted like a low end Filiberto’s burrito, and my sandwich was flat and tasteless. WARNING - UNDERCOOKED MEAT!!Our experience with this diner located across from Gammage used to be quite good. They offer a discount for theater-goers on the night of performances, and since we are season ticket holders, we enjoyed that discount regularly. The food is reasonably priced, and it is one of the few locations convenient to walk to after parking (a must, since traffic and parking can be a nightmare on show nights if you dont get there quite early). Our last three visits, however, have been problematic. The first problem was several months ago and involved an extremely long wait for our food. When the burger I ordered finally got there, I was prepared to wolf it down just to make it to our show on time. However, it was basically seared on the outside and completely raw on the inside. There was not enough time to have them fix it prior to our show. They did remove the charge from our bill and provided a 25% discount coupon for a future visit. The next visit there, I ordered a salmon, and it was raw in the middle. We sent it back, and they threw my partially-eaten salmon back on the grill and then brought it out to me again (Ive never had this happen before, as restaurants usually make a whole new meal, but I didnt have a problem with this - just thought it was different.) I dont recall if we were given a discount for this mistake. The last visit was only a few days ago, and given our more recent experiences, I ordered my burger well done (I usually like it medium well). The burger was medium on one half and rare on the other half. I asked for the manager. A harried woman who clearly had been in the back cooking came to our table. I told her that this was our third visit where grossly undercooked food had come to our table, and while we had good experiences in the past, we considered 3 visits over several months in which we were served dangerously undercooked meat to be our breaking point. I told her we would not likely be back, but that I felt management should be aware of the risk to customers presented by consistently undercooked meat. She listened politely, said she would uh... fix it, and left. I was seriously underwhelmed with her response. Honestly, I dont think she cared. They did comp the burger. If we go back, we wont order any meats... but its unlikely well go back. If they are that inattentive to foods with the highest risk of food-borne illness, I cant imagine what else goes on in their kitchen. Maybe the situation is different on nights they do not have a Gammage rush, but I cant speak to that.

This place is super creepy.Walked in as a group of three, the place was empty minus a few booths with what looked like parents visiting college kids and was asked if I had a reservation... A reservation for a diner? That was 99% empty? Wut?Anyhow we were asked to stand aside while the hostess went to check if they had space for us. There were more staff than patrons. The parking lot was empty. There were no other people on the way in. But we stood aside, for all the good it did.Upon her return we were seated near the entrance and we all started to get the creeps. While there were two or three other groups in the place, it was dead silent. It was cold, probably about 65 degrees inside. We overheard the hostess ordering staff to push the apple pie, forcefully. Two waiters dropped off menus which consisted of several sheets of paper stapled together. The food was typical diner fare but with what sounded like an attempt to make it fancy, think Beckets Table but devoid of warmth. And the prices were absurd. If your life is a facade of near-clinical fakery, this might be the place for you. We all bailed and went to Harlowes instead.

We went to what looked like the restaurant, but were confused by a sign in the window that said Closed. After investigation we discovered that the pub was opened, but in a different part of the hotel. The management needs to make the closed sign clearer for patrons who are not familiar with the lay out of the place. We didnt have reservations, but we were there early and were seated on the patio right away. It was great. From the beginning the staff was charming, personable and eager to please. We especially liked Kayla who, although was not yet a full-fledged server, was funny, helpful, and solicitous. Later Alex, the manager, stopped by all the tables near us and chatted with the patrons. He was interested in how folks were doing and was sincerely looking to be sure everyone was satisfied. We enjoyed the atmosphere and warm welcome we got.We all ordered drinks, both mixed and beer. The beer selection was adequate with a variety of draft and bottled beer. My friend and I both had mixed drinks they were good. I had a dark and stormy that was delicious. We didnt order apps. Three of us ordered burgers and one person ordered the Mac and cheese with crispy Brussel sprouts. For the price, the burgers were good. The meat patty wasnt huge, but we were fine with that. The fries were very much to the liking of three of us. They were the thin variety and VERY crispy. I loved them and although I never eat all the fries, I finished mine!!! My friend who prefers them softer wasnt as impressed. The Mac and cheese was mild in flavor and suitable to the person who ordered it. But the crispy Brussel sprouts were excellent!!!!! They came on top of the Mac and cheese and added crunch and pizazz to the mild flavor of the Mac and cheese. After our meal we got to sample the cheesecake. It was creamy, slightly lemony and the fruit topping was a perfect addition. We really loved sitting on the patio and watching the activity around us. The restaurant is across a busy intersection from the maroon parking lot at the Gammage, which is where we parked. It was a very easy walk. I would suggest more umbrellas for the tables as the sun is bright and at that time of day quite warm. The breeze was perfect!Overall, this restaurant is convenient to the Gammage, well managed, and staff is very friendly. The food is good for what it is. If you are looking for an elite, high-end eatery, you may want to look elsewhere, but if you are looking for a comfortable, reasonably priced pub atmosphere, you will most likely be happy with The Normal. We will go back and look forward to sampling other options on the menu.
