I was introduced to The Bookshelf from a friend who used to live in town (I live in WI) and hearing her talk about what this bookstore meant to her made me fall in love with it from afar. I started listening to the podcast, and following on social media and I knew if I was ever remotely within driving distance I had to stop in.Yall. This shop is one of the most gorgeous, thoughtfully curated bookstores I have ever been to. I was greeted so warmly entering and asked if I was looking for anything specific or if she could help with any of her recommendations (which I Love!) I have to note: I am childless but the childrens section was so beautiful and full it made me tear up. I wanted to buy childrens books just to have them in my collection! I am lucky to live within walking distance of my local bookstore (love you Boswell Books!) But I can assure you if I lived in Thomasville- I would live for The Bookshelf.

This is my favourite bookstore. We planned our route home from Blue Ridge to Tampa to include a stop. The collection of books available is incredibly diverse from collector’s editions to beach reads. The staff are so friendly and helpful. If I could live in a bookstore it would be this one. It has the perfect small bookstore vibe. AND they ship books! The owner hosts a podcast. Check it out. And stop by if you’re in the area.

I love the Bookshelf and make sure to stop in whenever I’m in Thomasville. Their book selection is great, but my favorite part is looking at all of the local products when I am there. I love that they support local artists and other small businesses. Their staff is always wonderful and knowledgeable about their new items. Highly recommend!!

What an amazing shop!! It totally appeals to my somewhat OCD senses😊 beautifully organized and arranged. Clean and neat. Not overwhelming like so many bookstores can get. Loved it!! Made me want to buy books!!! All of them.

As an educator, I was disappointed with the children’s selection. If you want to indoctrinate kids with leftist propaganda, this is the store for you! If you, however, just want a good book on George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, or our wonderful country, you won’t find it here! Instead their kids section consists of liberal progressives, books by or about Obama, Hillary Clinton, liberal senator Kamala Harris, leftist activist judge Sonia Sontamayor, etc. And several kids books about how to be a little revolutionary Marxist in your own country. 😡👎🏼 Not sure what they’re thinking here. This IS the Deep South. Hope next time we stop in, they’ll have some better choices. Maybe carry the Rush Revere series or Lynn Cheney’s patriotic books for children.

Ive been in independent bookstores that have a larger selection, but thats kind of what makes Bookshelf cool - it feels curated. Probably 10 or so shelf plus a magazine rack. Like any good bookstore it really seems to serve the Thomasville community. The owners do a neat little podcast too. Plus, they have done a really good job on managing covid w/ browse by appointment, limits on how many folks can be in the store, and having you put anything you touch in a basket so they can sterilize what you dont purchase. Not sure how much of that they are still doing, but they definitely take covid seriously. If you are in Thomasville or Tallahassee check them out.

I love The Bookshelf! It has an extremely cozy feel and everyone who works there has always been helpful and knowledgeable. They have wonderful selections for a multitude of genres and an adorable kids section.

Compared with other bookstores that Ive experienced, the Bookshelf tends to be a smaller space that caters more toward branding/aesthetics rather than to filling the space with a wider selection of books. If one is not opposed to second-hand shopping, the same books are available for much lower prices elsewhere.

I live in NY but these people were so helpful to me. A close friend just adopted a baby and I was looking for advice on what kind of books would work best for that age. These workers cane back with a long list and explanations for each one. They even gift wrapped for free! Everything looks so wonderful and was so easy. I really miss having a local book store, but I’m sure glad I stumbled upon the Bookshelf.

I love ordering from here online. I can’t wait to visit in person one day!

I love this little bookstore but not as much as I used too. The old manager Rebekah Arwood (now) Hemphill was kind of the heart and soul of the place. She knew me by name and always greeted me personally when I came in. None of the new people do this although they are quite nice. Its still a great store with really good prices only $1-2 more than Amazon which is pretty great. I just miss that personal touch. I still go in once a week on my lunch breaks to see what is knew. I have yet to go to one of their events due to work but I would like too. All in all its a lovely store.
