My name is Susan Whittington. I have a 2006 Subaru Legacy which is still in good shape. I see no reason to spend $$$ on a different vehicle when I have such a qualified crew to keep me rolling down the road. I have taken my vehicle to Marathon Auto for many years now. As an older, single woman.. I feel blessed to have this auto repair shop close to me when the need arises. I recently had an issue with an air filter.. it was still under warranty and was replaced without any hassle. Robert has gone over and above, and has been very professional, as have Erinn and Marty. I live in Georgia, and am visiting Traverse City. I had been told by a shop in Georgia that I needed to have the brakes replaced. I asked Marathon for a second opinion, and was told they were fine. They could have charged me for new brakes, but did not. Very honest of them.

Called in and Trevor quickly scheduled me for the next day to swap all 4 tires, and quoted me for the service before I hung up.The person that greeted me at the front desk wasn’t Trevor, and was a bit standoffish when I asked if they torque to spec (they do).Took about 45 minutes and no complaints - other than the extra 10% they added to my bill which is not what I was quoted over the phone. I trust the other reviews on here, but have my reservations for returning due to the pricing discrepancies 🤷🏻‍♂️Edit - Rob thanks for the call, and explaining the situation here - that makes perfect sense and is an easy mistake to make (and that you were more than happy to remedy). These guys are such a blessing! We are from out of town and ran into some trouble with our car at 5 pm on a Friday. Luckily, the guys at Marathon took a look at the vehicle right away and fixed it enough to get us back home. Their staff is incredibly friendly and willing to help. So, a woman walks into a car repair place ... and gets treated great!I was having a set of tires installed, from my husbands order. In response to my casual question to the front desk attendant about the suitability of the tires for heavy snow, the senior mechanic came out and talked with me for 15 minutes.He discussed the pros and cons of the tire model for longevity and Michigan winter driving, speaking with tremendous enthusiasm and no detectable condescension. Since we ordered the tires online for delivery to the store, it wasnt a sales pitch - just a knowledgeable opinion validating our choice and providing maintenance advice, for which I was very grateful.The front desk attendant also explained an air pressure sensor issue specific to the car model, and the warning was reset at no extra charge. The cost of installation/tire disposal was somewhat lower than we had expected, and the service was done in less than an hour. The waiting area was comfortable, with no loud TV.All in all, the best car maintenance experience Ive had in years.

We stopped in after having some issues with our car while visiting Traverse City. Luckily it was a simple fix and even though it was close to their closing time, they took care of the issue right away. They went above and beyond for us. All the guys are so great and very personable! Any vehicle issues, this is the place to be.

Attentive and professional, these guys really do the job well. I had tires replaced, and it took them 30 to 45 minutes and they were completely done. They really did a great job.

We have been taking our cars to Marathon Automotive for many years now. They are very friendly to work with, always do a good job, and just make the overall experience very pleasant. We also buy our tires there. Prices have always been competitive, and their products are excellent. I always feel I get an honest opinion from them regarding tires. They listen to my needs, and try to sell the most appropriate tire, even if its not the most expensive tire they sell. One year they even exchanged a set of snow tires for a different tire after I had them home for a few days. No charge, no hassle. They will always get my business.

Marathon is be best auto shop in town. They provide dealer-level quality, at much lower prices. You can find more affordable options in town, but I choose Marathon when I need it done carefully and properly. Theyre experienced and comfortable with all makes and models, including luxury brands. Theyre always friendly and helpful, and provide great coffee and shuttle service.

I feel as though Marathon Automotive is the best place to take your vehicle.From the moment you walk in, everyone is friendly, professional, and great to deal with. Did these guys get trained by the Ritz Carlton? Their prices are in line with others, and yet they give you so much more value. They are honest, timely, and they themselves go out of their way in order to prevent you from having to go out of your way. Do you need a ride? No problem! Catching a flight? Theyll drop / pick you up with a coffee! Seriously, the only way they could do better would be to give you a brand new vehicle off the assembly line (Dont get any ideas, guys...)Keep it up!

I just talked to Robert at Marathon Automotive over the phone and I think he was the nicest mechanic or shop owner I’ve talked to on the phone to date.No comment about the quality of auto service yet since Im bringing my car in later this week for the first time, but if their car care is as good as their customer service I wont have any complaints.

Excellent communication, trust and service. Have been repeatedly thankful and impressed by level of attention, care and genuine friendliness of the entire staff. Simple yet huge things like rides to and from work, a running tally of things on the horizon as far as our vehicles goes, conversation with desk staff and drivers on everything under the sun--makes for a wonderful addition to and break from my busy, often chaotic day. Always willing to discuss wide range of options too--in case unexpected bad news has come our way. Very satisfied and thankful for Marathons presence in our community.

If I could give Zero stars I would’ve. Told me my car had a blown head gasket on my BMW but that they didn’t want to take it because it was TOO many hours? I thought that’s how they made their money. Took it to the dealership and it was a CCV valve. They couldn’t even diagnose what was wrong.. be careful..

LOVE these guys! After my first trip there a few years ago, they remembered where I had moved from, my name, and my husbands name. They do not have to make a conscious effort to know you--it comes natural. They always take care of our vehicles in an honest way and have never done work without discussing it with us first. Went in for a break job/ battery replacement which went well. But left with dead radio that they claim had nothing to do with them. Was just a coincidence. It worked fine when i got there. They wont do anything for me. So gotta spend money to have my radio serviced in addition to the $1400 repair i went in for.(Edit: The GM contacted me and was very nice. He is covering the cost of having my radio serviced. I plan to do business their in the future, iv changed the review to reflect what his actions)

I was introduced to Marathon Automotive many years ago and they continue to service my vehicle today. The technicians are top-notch and their service is second to none. They always manage to fit me into their very hectic schedule even at a last minutes notice. I have had no complaints and no problems with the work that they have performed on my SUV. Im a fan of tires. Shocked by some who arent, I feel the need to tell. You can spend tens of thousands of dollars because of a cars appearance, comfort, performance or safety and significantly degrade all of those things to save a couple hundred dollars on tires. From this basic truth, Ive become a fan of Marathon. They know tires. They even read European magazine snow tire reviews. They only stock the tires they know are good. They also provide trustworthy service and have always shown themselves to be honest. If you want to optimize your vehicle, getting the best tires with the best service is where the rubber meets the road.

I normally let repeat business speak for itself and only leave reviews when I’ve had a bad experience—who has the time? In this case, however, I’m leaving a review for Marathon Automotive because in my opinion, they went above and beyond to provide service to someone else.We have had Marathon work on our truck several times. The last time we were there, we were getting new tires. There was also an older gentleman there—on oxygen, and I’d wager a vet based on the conversation he was having with another patron. Due to the partition, I only overheard what happened next, but it still makes me smile.The lady at the front desk (sorry, I have no name!) who was helping this man settle up was extraordinarily helpful to him. She was patient when he had difficulty speaking from the exertion of moving and helped him maneuver his oxygen tank. She also offered to go get his car, so that he wouldn’t have to walk as far. He replied with thanks, and asked her just to park it off to the side. She said, “Oh, no, Sir. I’m going to bring it right to the door.” I could tell she said it with a smile and that the gentlemen really appreciated it. I think she may have assisted him to his car as well.She went beyond customer service to really care about a customer, even knowing she’d be leaving her register and that where the car was parked might be slightly inconvenient for other customers. It was a good and kind judgment call!

Great service! We have been bringing our cars here since we moved to Traverse City four years ago. We have always received helpful advice and great service. Once a control rod on my old beater Jeep broke and Marathon found that it was under recall and we ended up getting it fixed free from the dealer. On several other occasions Marathon has gone beyond the call of duty. We highly recommend them!

The good folks at Marathon Automotive have been providing me superb and timely service for over a dozen years now. I trust them; I know the job will be done efficiently and effectively, and Ive never had a single issue with any work performed at Marathon. What Ive appreciated all the more is the friendliness and kindness of the people who work there, particularly Erin, Dave and Marty who greet customers. Good coffee is always on hand; free wifi is available while you wait. And over the years, theyve even welcomed Camry, my Australian Shepherd, who has been loved and adored by all and who knows where Erin keeps the dog treats. Living down set its hard to find a auto repair shop Up North that knows foreign cars - especially the MINI.Marathon Automotive was recommended by a MINI owner in TC, although I was skeptical since I was preparing for a journey to the Mac and needed some minor repairs I scheduled an appointment.WOW was I impressed with the staff and their familiarity with the MINI, the professionalism and attention to detail that I received was something I have missed for many years dealing with shops down state.Since we will now be frequent visitors to the area I will now schedule all my routine maintenance/oil change visits for both of our cars.PS- their support of the Leelanau Conservancy is commendable and also the coffee is very good.

My girlfriend an I have had a work done a couple times on our vehicles here and each time it was a great experience. The pricing was fair for the work done, but what stood apart was the communication, professionalism, and kindness of the staff. Of course nobody wants to have a car repair expense, but we are very happy going here and will continue to do so.

I take all my cars here, fast service even on my late model vehicles. The service advisors get to know you and deal with you as a person, not just a customer number. They dont try to sell you stuff you dont need, and inspect your car for damage to keep you running as smoothly as possible.

We needed nitrogen in my new tires because one was running low down to 40lbs. Stopped at four different places and nobody had any, but the last place told me Marathon Automotive on Airport Rd. had it. So we drove over there and everyone was so nice. We needed a new valve stem not just a fill up and they took care of us. We were on our way back to Saginaw hauling equipment with the truck and just didnt want to risk any problems. For most of the time I lived out west I had the same mechanic, so when I moved home to Michigan in 2002 I wanted the same thing. Just as you would do in finding a good doctor and dentist - you have to find a good mechanic/auto shop. I found that with Marathon Automotive. Theyve worked on my Jeep Barney for years and as a result, it runs like a charm - even with 207,000 miles on it. Ive even had offers to purchase it when Im ready to sell. I have been using Marathon Automotive for all my mechanical work, oil changes, and tires since I moved back to Traverse City in 2000. They have always been fair with me and never make me feel like an uninformed single woman who doesntt know diddly about cars (even though thats true!). I rely on them to steer me in the right direction when I need something done to my Toyota. I have recommended them to more people than I can even remember because they do such a thorough and efficient job. They will be my auto repair shop of choice as long as I own an automobile.

Usually these guys are pretty good, though i felt i needed to point out some disappointing service. A simple oil change prior to my leaving on Spring break, apparently the oil plug didnt get tightened properly and subsequently about a quart of oil had leaked all over my garage. Had to drive and drop the car another 20 minutes each way to the shop. They fixed it quickly and at no charge the next day, but a simple sorry for our error, your inconvenience and time and effort in cleaning up a large quantity of oil in your garage would have went a long way.

They did a good job wish they could of did more

I made the mistake of taking my rims and tires to be mounted and balanced at Walmart in Cadillac. Every tire had some level of leaking to them to the point where I would have to add air every week. I brought my other vehicle to marathon to mount the tires and they have maintained the same pressure for 1 year and counting. I decided to remount the other set from Walmart at Marathon and these are perfectly mounted as well. Well worth the cost.

Unless youre willing to pay $55 for a $25 oil change, do not get one done here. Employees were nice and the reason its not 1 star.

Took in for check engine light. Paid 2300 for repairs, they didnt tighten the bolts on the wheel (scary), so they towed it back. Get it a 2nd time, and check engine light is still on...

Ive been looking for an excuse to compliment Ross and the crew on their customer service, and now I can! Im in a customer-service business, and Marathon Automotive has it down pat. They always make me feel like the most important customer in the store (even though I know Im not), and the quality of the repairs is always top-notch. Theyre not the cheapest repair shop around, but they are the BEST!

They worked on my car for three days. When I picked it up, I only made it 2 miles before a coolant hose became disconnected. The car hadnt had any other work done on it for 10k miles other than routine oil changes so I knew theyd done it, but they refused to admit it, wouldnt pay for the tow truck, and charged me $150 just to put the clamp back on the hose that theyd left off.

These guys know their stuff. I ask a lot of questions and they gave me the best advise. They seemed to be thinking of my needs, not just getting my money. Big Plus, the coffee is great!
