It was heaven sent that I walked in to Start Haus after a day riding at Northstar, I needed a small repair of my bottom bracket, I ended up with a brand new bike (evil offering) full of custom parts switched over from my old one.From the first phone call to the delivery of my bike their customer service was flawless and the best Ive experienced from any bike shop in 25+ years of riding. Consistant updates and ideas as to how to use my old parts, including lacing up a carbon rim to the hydra hubs that came stock on the new bike.To top it all off, Jared who had been over the top with his expertise and guidance through the process drove my bike to the Bay Area because he needed to visit family here.

I managed to mangle my kiddos bike wheel. Mark and Jared were wonderful and willing to look at it right away. Hands down, this oasis of skis, boots, and customized fitting services deserves five stars. A friend told me about Start Haus and Id checked out their online presence before booking my appointment for boot fitting. First off, the store (new location) couldnt be any easier to get too, located right off of 80. Secondly, everyone in the shop is professional and accommodating. I was running an hour late for my fitting due to a pile up on 80; I called to say as much and the person on the phone was accommodating and let me know theyd do what they could when I got there. Mike did my fitting and I was bracing for the worst in terms of expenditure, because Id heard things could get pricey. To my surprise (and this still has nothing to do with the absolute professionalism of the shop) my boots where actually good and only modification was suggested. After determining that my current inserts where also good, Mike evaluated my foot and boot and proceeded to make a few punches to allow my foot more room in the front (due to bunion). Wow!!! What a difference when I got on the snow later that day. The boot felt altogether different and I wasnt in wrenching pain. This place is the real deal -- excellent selection of skis & boots and exemplary service & knowledge. Thank you Start Haus -- Ill definitely be back. This is the epitome of a great local business!!!

Quality shop. I lived in Verdi. Tried a few different shops in Reno, but never left very impressed with the mechanics/price/value. I am willing to pay if the quality of work deserves it. Start Haus mechanics were great to work with. Knowledgeable and friendly. Shop price was affordable. Turn around time on repairs and trouble shooting was always fast. Shop was well stocked. I worked with Mark and Aaron mostly. Both did great work.

Got my first pro boot fitting from Doug today. Very nice guy. Im not a racer and dont spend time reading or researching the latest ski equipment. Doug made me feel perfectly comfortable. I recommend for anyone wanting to take the next step with custom fitted boots and skis. Cant wait to try my new gear on the mountain.

I INQUIRED TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO MY VISIT ASKING IF I COULD MAKE A RESERVATION TO HAVE TWO SETS OF SKIS IN FOR BINDING ADJUSTMENTS. I WAS TOLD THEY COULD EASILY HANDLE IT ON A SAME DAY BASIS, JUST COME ON IN. WHEN I CAME IN, I WAS TOLD ID HAVE TO LEAVE OUR SKIS FOR 5 DAYS. THERES A SERIOUS DISCONNECT BETWEEN THE PEOPLE ANSWERING EMAIL INQUIRIES AND THE PEOPLE RUNNING THE SHOP. FORTUNATELY, A NEARBY SHOP WAS ABLE TO SERVICE OUR SKIS IN LESS THAN A HALF AN HOUR. GUESS WHERE MY FUTURE BUSINESS GOES!

This is the best ski shop in the north shore area & they have a terrific bike shop. They have awesome boot fitters. If you want boots this is the place to go. This is the shop for racers! After being a customer for 35 years at Granite Chief, I now go to Start Haus!

Brought 2 pairs of new skis and new boots to Jim to have them tuned and the boots worked on. I came all the way from Kentucky. Although I didn’t buy them from there, I was treated like I had. Skis were perfectly edged and tuned. Jim spent all day fitting my difficult feet and never tried to sell me additional items. His punches were on mark and his cants to correct my alignment were awesome. I went to Alpine to test them out and came back that same day to have them fine tuned. Both my skis and boots feel better now than when I left over a week ago. I probably won’t go anywhere else for my boots in the future probably to Jim’s chagrin.

The locals choice for ski tuning and better yet the bike shop. Aaron keeps my Santa Cruz spinning like a top. It good to be able to trust your toys when prepped by the pros at Start Haus. Great all around shop for Mtn Bikes and Alpine skis. Managed by locals who all ride and ski better than most of us.

Im a Truckee local and have always liked this shop. The only negative is that they inexplicably stopped carrying three piece ski boots. I am a ski coach and they are so comfortable that I refuse to wear anything else. Ill still buy all my other gear here but hope they see the error in not carrying such a popular boot style.

Best ski shop and bike shop in Truckee for sure. The techs know what they are doing but arent so aloof as other places. If you need ski boots fitted, skis tuned or your bike worked on this place should be your fist choice.

Was passing through town needed some work done so I called to see if they could fix it now and they said theyll take a look at it, and sure enough they seen it was a quick fix and stopped there other project to get me otta there in about 15 min plus got some great info about the area, I been wanting to take a trip here for some mountain biking and what ever else then city had to offer great job guys Ill never forget you 2 thumbs up ;)

Heard this was the place to go in Tahoe for boot fitting on the internet and I think they were right. Although they do have a one year timespan where you can get your boots punched out for free after purchase, I won’t be using it because my boots were fitted perfectly in the first place.

I was looking for new skis after skiing on my old faithful Dynastars for 12 years. The staff here were very helpful and assis Ted me in selecting an excellent pair that I probably would have passed by. Very happy with my new skis.

Disappointed. Walked in looking for cross country skis and or boots and they said I needed an appointment despite the fact that there wasnt a single customer in the store but me. In any case, they said they dont carry telemark or cross country ski boots and didnt suggest any other places to try.

After skiing many days on my old K2 Apaches, I thought it best to get a professional tune up. I brough them to another ski shop and they were ruined. They wondered in the flat hard pack and the tails would break away when finishing a tight carving turn. I brought then into your shop and you tuned them up. They are better than new!
