My Sulcata Tortoises (3) was boarded there for a week. They didnt feed them any of the food (fresh greens hay mixed and hay) I sent for them to eat nor given any water. They feed them dry pellets that they wet, which they dont eat. As to why I sent food. It was molded and dried out food in their dishes upon picking them up. Signs that they wasnt eating it and they continued to give it to them. The oldest one wasnt let out of his enclosure nor was it cleaned out. Ill never take my babies back there for any reason. Id rather leave them at home by their selves before I allow them to boarder mines again. Im just upset that nothing that I was told far as how my babies would be treated and feed was true. This isnt okay with me.

One of if not the best priced pet store in town. The staff are very knowledgeable & the enclosures are kept clean. Extra points for keeping the reptiles correctly. Definitely my go to pet store in Tucson now.

Went in yesterday to check the place out. All the enclosures were clean, majority well set up, not cramped, and ideal for each species as temporary holding tanks compared to many other stores. I was so impressed by the welfare of all the critters and the variety of equipment you can buy there. Big box pet stores could never. Looking forward to getting some pet mice from them soon. 😊

After posting the following review I was contacted by Jen who explained that their policy is in place because some vendors have a strict policy on returns. Under circumstances Jen offered a store credit for the full purchase price. Until this situation arose I had been quite happy with Desert Pet, including their products and service. Im glad to report being happy once again!(Even if you have an account with this store and they know what you have purchased, they will not give you a refund without receipt. In my case this was $130 worth of dog food. Ill never set foot in Desert Pet again.)

Prices are great. Good variety of rarely seen fish. Has food for exotics to include fish, snakes, lizards and spiders of many kinds. Tuesday is feeder food shipment.

They have everything, I need for my little girl dog. I do recommend this place is very good and they have very nice employees 👍🤗🙈

Lots of variety. Fish tanks are nice and clean, reptile enclosures arent perfect but definitely way better than tropical Kingdom and several of the other chain pet stores. They have live feeder rodents here as well. My biggest complaint is that the birds up front are overcrowded and they have some bird cages in high traffic areas which is stressful to the animals. Most of the big birds are in the back and blocked off from customers which is great.

The store manager is always great. Shes extremely knowledgeable with anything I ask her. Great personality too!

I’ve been coming to this store for years, and I feel like it’s gone downhill. No the enclosures are not clean, as far as the small animal enclosures are concerned. Their litter boxes are always dirty whenever I go in. Which is about once a week. They used to keep them impressively clean and I’ve just watched it go downhill. They seem to be having a turnover of employees as well, every time I go in, there’s someone new. And having to navigate through all the boxes in an already tiny store is getting old. Like I said, I’ve been frequenting this store for years, and I know what I’m talking about. I hope they shape up soon

Their employees are knowledgeable and helpful and a lot of fun. I loved holding and playing with the ferrets. But they are asking a little bit too much for their ferrets in my opinion. But I did have fun while I was there with my daughter.

Thy only care about money not there regulars. They didnt mind letting a depressed person leave disappointed. Came in after having miscarriage to get a pet. We found a turtle that interacted we me so much i was in love. There was no price so we found a employee to get a price when they came back we said well take it.got food toys all kinds of things. When we got to the register she said they were adiffernt price. I was very dissatisfied and all the employee said was have i nice day. This is one of my favorite pet stores in Tucson. Although it has gotten smaller over rhe years they have a pretty good assortment of live animals, fish, and reptiles. Recently they boarded my bird for $7 a day to include fresh fruit and food. They are also going to trim his wings and nails. Price wise they extremely competative.They also have a huge assortment of food and pet products. I have purchased several live animals here and have not had any issues.

Bought frozen rats here and realized they were the wrong size when I got home. Even at the smaller size they were pretty overpriced. The place smells really, really terrible when compared to the nicer reptile stores in the area. The reptiles and fish do not appear to be in the best condition (lots of urates and feces in numerous snake enclosures, all of which were pretty bare) and their aquarium systems appeared to be flooding when I was there. The employees at the counter are very helpful, but idk if Im coming back to this place.

My wife and I love going into Desert Pet mostly for the reptiles. I must add their staff is very helpful. My dog was having stomach problems and I got recommended a couple products that solved it within days! Dont hesitate to give them a visit!

Got my bearded dragon from there, he is a very happy and healthy little baby beautiful in color to! Service was very good. One month later he is still thriving!

Honest ma&pa. Healthy animals, one can get some feed in bulk(bag your own) and knowledgeable. Definitely not a glitzy mall chain, just pets and pet stuff.

Always a great experience here and animals always seem well cared for. Their prices are also the most reasonable in town. We go there for our reptile supplies and for their Fuzzy mice.

They have a wide selection of items to go along with some of the critters 🙂Didnt have much time, but they have a fish room thats always had a wide selection from fresh to salt fish. The other direction usually has pups, kittens, birds and sometimes more exotic animals. The only REAL way to know is to wander by and see if they have what your looking for.

Lots of selection with fish that are not found really in big chain stores. Friendly staff with tons of knowledge and extremely willing to help. They even opened a box with an aquarium bonsai so I would know what I was buying. What surprised me the most was the cost of alot of things rivaled and even beat that of Petco and Petsmart!!!

Expected better service for such a small shop, sadly tried this place rather than my usual spot for guinea pig pellets/kibble 😞

Surprisingly large selection of fish and lizards, given what seems like a small store from the front. Better selection of fish, reptile, and bird supplies than most of the chains. Prices are not too bad for a non-chain store. Staff is very helpful

Staff is knowledgeable (except for snakes-I have written more about that farther down in review) & friendly.They have everything for your pets including rabbits, reptiles, fresh & saltwater fish, spiders, pet toys & food plus another thing I like is they always have whats going on around Tucson for whatever your pet maybe. They have a nice birds & fish. They do not have cats or dogs for adoption unless they are having a special event.I would like to remind you to do your own research on snakes regarding type of light (UVA, UVB etc) & heating, bedding & what makes the best home for them, because snakes are the area most of the employees are not knowledgeable in. Only 1 out of 4 employees I spoke to had knowledge about snakes, 1 of those 4 tried to sell me a light that WAS NOT for a snake & said I needed to take my snake my snake outside daily. A different one of the 4 told me I should take my snake back to where I bought it (I received as close to a Birth Certificate as you can get on a snake where I bought mine, when it was born, what day it ate & what it ate, the ht & hp). I ask them where they got a certain type of snake from & did they offer what I received. They said they received from different breeders, some out of state & none offered what I received. Because of this I wouldnt recommend buying a snake from themI would say all other things are good!

A Tucson institution! Loved visiting the ancient parrots when I was little, they catered to all our pet needs growing up and now as a mama the amazing staff helped my kids pick out their first bunny...although we wanted all the reptiles and fish and birds too!

Pretty fish, but lots of them had white spots all over them so stop myself from a purchase.

This is one of only a few locally owned pet stores left in Tucson and Im glad to see its still going. Been shopping here since my dad got me my first aquarium over a decade ago and it will always be one of my favorite stores. They have a decent variety of fish and reptiles for sale and an abundance of pet food choices, looking for some real wood pieces or some nice stone theyve got you covered. Theyve even gone as far as to special order certain items and fish for me all with no hassle. If youre looking for a good pet store I cant say enough about this one!

I have bought birds and fishes here. I bought a 30 gallon fish tank withstand. Their prices seem to be very reasonable I have no complaints. They have an assortment of animals from A to Z. The employees are always very helpful and understanding when I have questions. And Ive had a lot of questions. I would recommend this store to anybody.

Bought my blue betta fish and both of my snails from here. I love popping in from time to time to see their selection of fish and snails. It’s a clean store and everyone’s always willing to answer any questions you might have. I’m only giving 4 stars because their selection of betta fish is sucky sometimes. And there’s been a few times where there’s been dead betta’s on display. Other than that, it’s a great pet store.

Good variety of live foods for any reptiles you might need to feed. Large store has a good selection of supplies for your pets, but not as large a selection of foods for dogs&cats like big chain pet stores. Support local and check this place out!

Was a little upset when I got home with my baby ferret and put the cage together put her in and then realized that the spaces between the bars were too big as she was runt of the litter. They should have known and warned us so we could find a cage with closer bars to make sure she couldnt get out. So now Im out the money on a brand new cage unless I can sell it myself and I spent just over $400 there. Wanted to bring it back but they said because she was in it for a VERY SHORT time that they wouldnt take it back because would have to get it cleaned. OK bleach costs that much? Cause you know that is what theyll use. So I went to another pet store and got another cage for $200 Grrrr

Some of the staff is very polite but not all there feeders for reptiles dont last long and tend to die. The supplys are reasonably priced but not there pets

So easy to schedule low cost vaccinations and tests here with an appointment time. No standing in long lines with other dogs that may be reactive. Vet techs are super friendly. Store is well stocked and clean. Well be back again!

Hattie was so nice on the phone!! Even more pleasant when I got to the store!! She held the last large bag of Fromm Adult dog food for me the day after Christmas. If there was more, I would have bought it.

This is a family run business, it seems like. Its small, but clean and well stocked. Its the only place I can find all of the live food for my Bearded Dragon. The only place I know of that always has the Dubias roaches and King worms. Everyone there is friendly and helpful. I just wish they were closer to Amado!

For local venue this fares better than most. Its like a glorified convenience store without the convenience store prices.

Had a very pleasant experience here. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and help as much as they can. The environment is clean which is very important given the pandemic situation. Theres a great selection of fish and other pets but mostly aquatic animals and birds.

Its a small pet shop, but its so quaint! The staff there were so helpful and so friendly! All the animals are well kept up, their cages are clean. I was very pleased with the experience! So please that we ended up taking a little guy home today it was a good experience. If you are a first-time pet buyer I definitely recommend to go through them. Look around and ask questions and take a look at the animals and have them give you some helpful advice and maybe hopefully you will find a furry little friend a forever home!!

A few months ago we started going in to just look at the fish and they couldnt be nicer about us just browsing. Thomas taught us a lot about the fish and let my son feed the Koi and hold the ferrets. We have a medical condition that prevents us from wearing masks and they were completely ok with that. Now we have made them our new pet store, we decided we want to give our business to locally owned companies and theyve gained customers for life. Thank you Desert Pet!

The store is run down and only ever seems to have 2 people running it at a time, the staff are friendly but always rushed. The selection series of animals is ok but the health of the animals looks a bit questionable.
