We had a family get together for lunch and had a wonderful time! The service was good, the food was also very good. The menu has interesting choices, very unique and it made it hard to choose just one item. It was nice watching the hummingbirds fly around as we ate. We definitely will come back again.
Such a neat place! Ive lived in AZ a long time, so it was really interesting to see all of the native plants and animals! The butterflies were EVERYWHERE, and it was truly a site to behold! The Garden Bistro has great food and choices. The little kids area was super cute and had interactive pieces. A great trip!
Brunch on a weekday?!? Yes! (Starting Wednesday). The fires are that crispy crunchy type that are perfect. The patio outside is spaced out and nice to sit and enjoy fresh air. Portions are big enough to share or split several dishes and try. Left full for the rest of the day. Friendly staff and quick service. Will need to go again when back in the area 🍻
A gem in the center of Northern Tucson! Tohono Chul is a desert park featuring lovely walking paths in the lush desert with museums, gift shops and dining areas. The green house featured has a wide variety of cacti and Sonoran fauna for your selection. Great place to take the kids for an hour or two or simply wander the grounds and learn about the ecosystem
It had been years since I had eaten in the tea room garden. Memories came flooding back(I proposed to my wife here, many years ago). Plants are bigger, the food better. The grounds have expanded dramatically in the ensuing years. Wont stay away so long again.
Really fun location! While we didnt eat and missed the turtles the walk was relaxing and beautiful
Great food, really great. Fantastic atmosphere.Cute, location, great people. Must try!
This was my first time here & I loved it. The gardens, butterflys & gift shop.We ate at the restaurant & the food was delicious. I will go back in spring & Id like to see the hummingbird area. Also bought a gift for my sister.
What an incredible gem! Im glad the map provided as it did feel a little bit like a maze but a well-organized one. Good signage we just got turned around several times. I know I never knew there were so many kinds of our land so many kinds of agave! If you love looking at the local plant life, do you include this on your visit. We lucked out and got there after a small storm, with cooler temperatures. A great respite from the city. Very extensive gift shop they seem to have a little bit of everything. Delicious Cactus candy.
Beautiful and peaceful place! Loved it! A must visit.
Nice plant garden. Lots to see but bring an umbrella or a large hat if you decide to take some of the trails. Otherwise you can survive with a simple hat. Nice shops.
Best Margarita I’ve had in Tucson. Go with the Prickly Pear Marg! Chicken and waffles were sublime as well. The grounds are beautiful to walk around and look at too!
We attended the self-guided park today. Our expectations were surpassed. Quiet, relaxed atmosphere- lots of volunteer tour guides to offer help along the way. We easily spent two hours here yet we kept moving - and we skipped the desert walk only because we were running out of time. This is a great, small, compact tourist spot without the need to go hiking for hours! Beautiful display of art, cactus, aloe, and other foliage unique to Arizona. We were impressed.
Not good people, was probably just those I interacted with. But still it’s a sad for a place so beautiful
This is a beautiful location on the outskirts of Tucson, and its worth the trip. If you love the Sonoran desert, this place will give you an overview of the plant life, in a setting that is peaceful, relaxing and very inviting. Lots do to here. The gift shop and restaurant are a great stop as well.
Great photo ops of desert plants. Knowledgeable docents explained the winged creatures, including bat behaviors. Lovely shaded cafe with Prickly Pear margaritas and infused chicken salad, as well as my favorite chicken and waffles! I highly recommend the desert grounds and the cafe. Oh, and you can buy seeds and plants in the green house.
Gross food. Entire place in attractive from neglect. Extremely overpriced.
I got married at Tohono Chul, and it was a beautiful day! The scenery was everything I wanted for an outdoor wedding, and there were options to choose from regarding the location of the ceremony and reception. The wedding coordinator did so much for us to make sure our day went smoothly. Definitely recommend Tohono Chul if you are looking for an outdoor, unique, desert-themed wedding 😊
Tohono Chul was a lovely respite for the day. Theyre are so many elements of the preserve that are worth exploring; the architecture, the lovely plants, and an excellent gourmet lunch. For those people looking for gift shops there were several and they were all stocked with very representative goods of Arizona, with many of them handcrafted and local.
First time here. Came for lunch. Food was awesome, property was beautiful and great little gift shop. Well be back.
First visit there! Beautiful park! Friendly people and the butterflies were happy we were there! 🐛🦋🌵🏜
September 2021: Very nice, well maintained garden. Reciprocal garden with the American Horticultural Society is a plus. Bistro expensive.
Beautiful place, never had been here before. Nice walk, make sure to wear proper shoes & sunscreen. Lots to see in regards to what our desert has to offer. Theres a walk thru museum, gift shop. Also a place to eat, but at this time is currently closed. Will return!
Great park to visit and understand Arizona plant life. Also to get an idea of what to grow in your gardens in Arizona. The staff are always warm and welcoming. Plenty of benches around to rest. Bring plenty of ice water but there are some fountains. Reasonable prices. Nice to get away from city life and relax in nature. Highly recommend a trip. Perfect day date. Perfect reading areas.
Nice place to visit. We got there right when they opened so there was plenty of parking. We took one of the bird tours. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Lots of cool plants to see. We saw cardinals and hawks all near the restaurant which had excellent food.
The park is really excellent and family friendly. Many species of plants and trees clearly marked. Great docent tours with lots of information to share.
Food was excellent like always..but the service from our waitress wasnt near close to what we are use to when we eat there.
Outdoor dining was lovely. They expanded it beyond the patio into the trees and the social distancing was perfect. New items on the menu were interesting and tasty. Busy time, so the wait was long, but expected. They dont take reservations for less than 6 I believe. However, a glorious day to watch the humming birds and passersby. We also walked the gardens, bought a plant and cruised the gift store. Perfect spring moment for flowering plants. Tohono Chul is always a total experience, but yesterday was particularly good.
Lunch with friends on their lovely patio. A very interesting menu that gives a unique twist to some local favorites. As usual the service was excellent and the food was well prepared and beautifully presented. Great place to take out of town guests. Wish they were open for dinner.
Great birding area. Masks required full time in the park.
Excellent food in a great Southwest atmosphere. Lots of standard fare, great cocktails and eclectic Mexican and Southwestern dishes. A tad pricey but the proceeds support the garden.
Gorgeous hike through the gardens! Beautiful Park! And a Delicious Restaurant with great service! 😍
Excellent gardens with knowledgeable staff and volunteers. The bistro is excellent for lunch and prickly pear margarita. Do wear a hat and suntan lotion. Saw a saguaro blooming for the first time. With a greenhouse and gallery you will not be disappointed for things to do. Very worthwhile to purchase an annual pass which comes with more than just entry to the park. Go to their website for further details.
All the food and drinks were so good! I had the blue corn waffles and chicken, would definitely reorder it
Just so beautiful! Ive been here 12 years and had no idea it existed. Definitely a hidden gem!
My only regret about this place is that I didnt adequately plan to spend enough time here (and without my kids)!!!Before I ever visited Tucson, Arizona, I just imagined that it would be a bunch of empty desert space other than a few buildings and maybe some Urban and rural areas. But, since moving here in the summer of 2017, Ive actually seen a lot more life here than I originally anticipated. In the process I developed a greater appreciation for the unique beauty here.Tohono Chul Park is a place (among several others) where you get to see a lot of that life and beauty. But I really like this place. There is a lot more to also see about the awesome restaurant that is on the premises, however it looks like there is another place on Google reviews to do that. So I will post about that place there.Anyhow looking at the park and seeing the different types of plant life than what Im used to really highlights the beauty of Tucson and the desert. This is a must see place for any visitor.
Its a great park, perfect for the whole family. Its very relaxing walking around here. They have lots of events, lots of different gardens, and a very good restaurant. Inside is also a museum where you can enjoy some Native American art.
Great omelet! I ordered the Chul omelet which was very good and I also got the side of smashed potatoes which were excellent.
Very beautiful grounds and lunch was excellent, although a bit pricy.
Wow. Outdoor lunch doesnt get a whole lot better than this. We had lunch here on January 29th, 2020, with sunny skies and temps in the 60s. Hummingbirds came to visit nearby flowers in the adjacent Hummingbird garden. The food was absolutely wonderful. Chiles Roleno was delicious, and the quattro salades was great. The dessert was the Chefs whim which was chocolate flan which was out of this world. Great coffee. The wait staff was very nice. I dont know how they could improve.
Loved the mini pancake charcuterie board (and also the smell of the flowers while I was waiting) Cant wait to come back and dine in when this wicked humidity is over.
Tohono Chul Part has some of the most beautiful gardens in Tucson. You will find all local cactus and plants. You will also see other non-native cactus plants from other regions of Central and South America. This is the place if your interested in taking nice pictures with beautiful back ground scenery. They have well kept architectural along with the gardens. Every second week of November, they have free entrance and a Guatemalan Arts and Craft sales.
Love the outdoor patio. Perfect for weekend brunch. The portion of their specialty breakfast is huge! I heard they used to have high tea and I hope they will bring that back if there is enough interest. Will definitely come back to try other things on their menu.
The 49-acre (19.8 ha) site itself offers a setting for Tohono Chuls regional focus. Views of the Santa Catalina Mountains form a backdrop for the natural desert habitat and its location within existing migratory tracks provides a temporary home for many species of wild, native fauna. Thirty-eight species of birds make their permanent home here while another 57 migrant species visit seasonally, and a variety of reptiles and mammals, from Gila monsters to bobcats, may be spotted on the grounds.
Beautiful gardens to stroll amongst and learn about our great desert! I was there for their semi-Annual Plant Sale which benefits the park and has provided my home with all the desert plants I need each year to keep our Sonoran home looking great each year! Tohono Chul Park Bistro is also a great place to enjoy a fabulous Brunch on the weekends and lunch during the rest of the week! Be sure and check out their nice Gift Shop too!
Excellent venue for breakfast !All the staff are friendly, courteous, and work hard to create an enjoyable dining experience. Our server, Camille, did a great job.The gardens background makes it a very relaxing time. The Chef and staff deliver creative and delicious entrées that highlight some of the best of local ingredients.
Bloom Night is magical! Glad to see the park open again!! Bucket list item! Do at least once! Smells amazing!
Such a beautiful place to go outside and nurture your soul! You can even get free passes through the Pima county public Library! Their winter events are awesome! Very very beautiful place!
The Garden Bistro located here is one of my favorite places to go for lunch. Has a beautiful patio and great food and drinks. Need not pay entrance to the botanical garden to go to the Bistro, gift shop or the plant nursery.
Weve lived in Tucson almost 2 years and been members for 2 years. Weve learned a ton so far about desert horticulture (were from coastal California so didnt have a clue about high desert where we live now) and also have enjoyed the shops and restaurant (excellent choice for lunch!). Beautiful setting we most highly recommend. Do join as they are a non-profit in the very best sense of the words. We went to their XMAS event last night and it was just remarkable. What makes the holidays in the desert so special!
This was our very first time here. I am so impressed! 49 Acres you cant beat it! Whoever is the buyer in the gift store does a tremendous job! From now on when we have out-of-town company wants to take back a souvenir of our beautiful city or state, this is the place to go! We had a little breakfast out on their patio overlooking the grounds. The staff was helpful in happy the food was good and it was not overpriced we will go back again and we will take friends next time! They also have some amazing artwork all through the grounds. Heres one by a famous local artist who used all scrap metal from the desert
Tohono Chul Park, and Bistro, is a gem of the desert. We have had uniformly excellent experiences, whether with food, drink or events. Today’s “Chiles, Chocolate and Day of the Dead” annual event is no exception. If you’ve never been to Tohono Chul ... you definitely need to get there either TODAY or TOMORROW for a tasty introduction!
Cool Garden with many nice trails to enjoy and wander thru, Many Hummingbirds, Cardinals rabbits. Very friendly and helpful volunteers. Great place to check out when visiting Tucson.
We spent 3+ hours this am at Tohona Chul--and that was a good thing because it gets hot later in the day. The grounds are spacious. Assistance is easily available. (On three different occasions Liz was available to explain or show us about both flora and birds.) The saguaro and prickly pear were beginning to bloom. We had a fine time and will return. Tohono Chul is a short drive from the even more spacious Arizona -Sonora Botanical Garden. Both are charming. Tohona Chul is less visited and the absence of crowds is an advantage.
Had a wonderful brunch outside on the patio. The food was delicious with large potions. Endless mimosas and margaritas were enjoyed by some of the group. Excellent service. Very reasonable prices.
Prickly pear lemonade is a MUST! I got the prickly pear chicken salad on a croissant. The FRIES were super delish. Skip the sandwich. Its weird with the prickly pear with the chicken. It is kind of pink. There are so many more options. I saw the pancake charcuterie and hope to get that next time. Enjoy and sit outside weather permitting. The gardens are so lovely here.
Great inner city little desert park. Dont go mid day. Too hot.
Great location with various gardens that feature desert plants. Nice restaurant as well.
Beautiful park in northern Tucson, especially during spring in April and May!
A very peaceful and beautiful place,
Beautiful and unique urban garden. Always a favorite.
Nice place to stroll through native gardens. They had a Sunday concert which was great to relax outside and listen. We got a little lost on the trails, they could use better signs. We plan on bringing the kids for Christmas lights, which should be fun!
It was pretty all decorated with lights. They had some arts and craft vendors. One food vendor outside had great corn chowder. Several areas of different music entertainment, but not sure it was worth $16.00.
Theres so much to see and learn! Beautiful plant life everywhere you look.
I really enjoyed my visit there. Ill have to visit there when I come back again.
Nice and well manicured property with pockets of shade throughout the trails. Especially liked the area with the stream along the covered patio. Good place to read or chill out. One minor thing I didnt like was that it is located just off of Ina Rd so there is a lot of traffic noise. Saw that in Oct and Nov they have live music performances every Sunday.
Beautiful and serene trails filled with wildlife, like this huge Great Horned Owl!
I went on a Sunday morning and strolled the gardens in about an hour. It was beautiful and serene. Ive never been to a garden where there are signs warning you of active rattle snakes. How exciting! Theres also a really wonderful shop selling a well curated selection of succulents and cactus. I really enjoyed the quilt show at the gallery as well and the cafe! It was pretty hopping for Sunday brunch but they have opened a part of the garden beyond the patio which was quiet and pleasant. The service was friendly but the croissant they served me was on the stale side and Ive never been served a croissant sliced in half. The atmosphere and the coffee and the staff made up for it.
It was beautiful experienceMany historical plants and many different birds you can see here
Great Day of the Dead art show last night!
The food here is unbelievably delicious however the real gem here is the garden. One of the best spots in town to sit down and enjoy a meal outside. The staff is just wonderful to be around, the greenhouse has exciting plants and cacti and the gift shop is large and has many interesting nic nacs to choose from. I highly recommend!!
A few nice (short) trails to walk along to see the different kinds of cacti. They have tours but my parents and I prefer to do our own thing so I didnt get to try. I want to next time though, I saw two groups end and it sounded pretty informative; people were very happy to thank their guide! They have a garden area growing things from lettuce, carrots, beans, peppers, and lemons. Would be neat to go back in a couple weeks to see the progress. Too bad I dont live here. There was a kids area with no kids, the place was pretty empty both times I went during my stay. I liked that only because you get the place to yourself and dont have to share the trail. There were an aweful lot of people parked there though, I think they must have all gone to eat at the restaurant there so that must be a good place to eat. Theres plenty of parking with bus/rv parking available too.
Stopped in because one of my favorite local artists Kristin Harvey was having some of her work displayed here. I picked up this piece and cant wait to hang it!
Beautiful gardens! There is a lot of variety here and hummingbirds and butterflies
The meal was wonderful. They have the tables far enough apart that made my lunch there even more enjoyable... thank you for following Covid standards...
Went for the Night Blooms. Was incredible and beautiful. Very nicely posted trails even in the dark.
Beautiful gardens with a great variety of desert and not so desert flora!
One of the best botanical gardens I have ever visited.
This place is awesome! Not only are all the flora in this area covered, history, anthropology and wildlife are described, as well. You can purchase plants from the greenhouse and there are two gift shops. Its absolutely wonderful!
Ive always enjoyed going to Tohono Chul the patio is the perfect brunch spot and inside you get the cozy old Tucson home feel. Great place to take out of state visitors. Delicious food and drinks.
Beautiful place with beautiful friendly staff. We ordered the prickly pear lemonade. Perfect ending to a beautiful day. Gift shop is awesome and the staff is super accommodating.
