An intimate Willy Wonka-like space serving old fashion ice cream, floats, shakes and malts. We ordered the blueberry cheesecake, mango sorbet and one of their gigantic ice cream bowl and sat outside. There is an outdoor patio and also 2 benches by the parking lot. The parking lot is a shared lot, easy to navigate but be on a lookout, as there are young children walking around with family. Cool 😎 spot !

Whenever I hear the word Valparaiso the only thing I can think about and remember is the time I stopped and got ice cream there. Several people told me that I HAD to try Valpo Velvet Ice Cream because its the best ice cream they had ever had.I was with several friends and decided to treat them, when It was my turn I ordered the coffee ice cream in a cup. The barrel of coffee ice cream was empty, so i figured they would make me choose a different flavor or go get a new container, neither of those things happened.Instead the server proceeded to scrape the sides of the container and down along the circular bottom in the crease, scrape, scrape, scrape, until there was barely enough to call it a scoop. This is what was served to me, and what I had to pay for.The ice cream was gummy and freezer burnt, in fact probably the worst ice cream I had ever purchased. No I didnt finish it, I sat there while my friends had their ice cream, then threw that little cup away.To this day, the word Valparaiso just brings up a bad memory and money wasted. Scrape, scrape, scrape.

What a DELICIOUS place to eat! Hubs and I got sandwiches. Both were so good, it was hard to pick which was better. We tried 5 different flavors of ice cream. The kids ALL loved their chocies and ours as well. Our toddler loved the sandwiches, too. He doesnt hold back if hes not a fan, so serious props.Also, all humans are welcome and safe here. We wish we lived closer but will now go out of our way to eat here!!

So adorable!This is the perfect treat for a hot and sunny day. I got the superman ice cream on a waffle cone. It reminded me of my childhood, sweet and gone to soon! The service was quick and accurate. The interior much like the ice cream was sweet, with ice cream themed painted wooden chair and beautifully scripted chalkboard menus. Great experience! I cant wait to visit again!

I love to old school atmosphere & I have been to multiple event with there food truck. Its always a pleasant experience. Prices are a little high for the portions but this is some exceptional ice cream non the less! Well worth the cost.

Super fun experience. Came here after completing the 3 Dunes Challenge, and were glad this was advertised as a good way to celebrate (saw it mentioned on the 3 Dunes Website). Ice cream was excellent, and I loved that the employees were willing to let my kid mix a bunch of weird types of sherbets and sorbets on his cone--the price is by weight, not scoop, so you have more flexibility than in other ice cream stores. He said their mango sorbet is one of his all time favorite treats!

Their green tea ice cream is my favorite iteration of it in town and Id buy bigger containers of it if they were available. All the flavors are fantastic really.

The ice cream is very good however the portions are extremely small. The banana and strawberry in the banana split were on the verge of going bad. If you are looking for a full size sundae or banana split this is not the place. However if you don’t mind spending higher dollar for smaller portions it is good tasting ice m and The setting is very cute and staff is very friendly!

My first time coming here ! It was very pretty inside and had a good vibe. The girls working here are very nice and made my ice cream fast. I wish they wore hairnets though to prevent any hair getting in the ice cream etc. will come again to try a smoothie and a sandwich!

Unfortunately I wasnt impressed with my strawberry shake. It needed more strawberries and less [artificial?] color and flavor. Perhaps substitute strawberry ice cream for vanilla...

A Valpo legend! Ive been eating here for 32 years. I love knowing that a local family owns and operates VV and makes the ice-cream themselves. If you are from out of town, I highly recommend a visit before you leave.

Ice cream I great. But 32 oz shake was $11 and is was a straight chocolate shake. For $11 they could at least offer whipped cream and a cherry on top. Very clean

I just recently found out that they have sandwiches and other things I just had a fantastic lunch from there chicken salad sandwich and a hummus plate. So not only is there ice cream fantastic so is there food will definitely be back there again

Valpo velfat has good ice creem but more then that it has other food to.I get to revew all the food i had there.The meetlofe was a meetlofe meetlofe dubbal beetlofe and came wif mash potados and gravey and bred.it tasted good but I wanted some more pazaz to it so I put my mint ice creem on the top of it to make a mint gravey and mixed it all up hoopy doop and it was the best thing my tast butts ever ate. I also tryed some creemy asbergers soop too and it was delisis.My faverate flaver of ice creem is prolly the browney one and second most faverate one is the bannanna and then the cocanut one.Next time I go I wanna get the sloopy joes samich and put cottan candy ice creem on it so it wood be hevan. Theres so many good combanatons you can make there with the food and ice creem to make it your fannasee. When its reel hot out you can smeer some ice creem on your face and arms to cool off so go here if your hot but just run fast becase the bees like ice creem to.

Drove from Chicago to stock up on their vanilla bean half gallons. The gals packed up several to go for me in dry ice for my trip home. The dry ice was actually more expensive than the ice cream, but everything was well wrapped and I am able to enjoy at home for the next few months. Totally worth the trip!

The “waffle cones” were mushy, my “cofffee icecream” had chunks up white crunchy stuff. And to top it all off I payed $18.20 for stale cones

It may look like little but they have tons of variety when it comes to frozen treats and even serve lunch sandwiches/soups. The location in downtown valpo is great and you can enjoy a walk around downtown or at one of their outdoor patio tables. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and now I bring my own family. They super pack their pints/tubs if you want to take some to-go, and they always have a new delicious seasonal flavor. BUT, I’m the adult that still eats bubblegum ice cream every single visit and Valpo Velvet has the BEST! It has the perfect proportion of gum vs ice cream distributed in every bite. Their shop is clean and the staff moves quickly, always with a smile. I’m happy to see they have expanded into local grocery stores, but I’ll still drive 30-45 minutes to stop by the actual shop for the inviting atmosphere of this quaint shop in downtown valpo.

73 years young family owned business and they treat each customer like they are part of the family! Delicious ice cream, smoothies, bread, sandwiches, and soup. Cozy environment and I love taking in all the nostalgic pictures adorning the walls. When you are in Valparaiso this is a must stop!

We celebrated National Milkshake Day saturday by trying Valpo Velvet. My strawberry shake was good but no real pieces of fruit were present. Hubby ordered a fudge sundae. His was delicious but he felt cheated by the size of that 3 scoop sundae. It was on the small size by our standards & compared to other ice cream shops as well. Overall, a bit too pricy for the sizes served! The food menu looked great with decent pricing, maybe next time well order an entree.

Valpo Velvet is a wonderful Ice cream. One of the best. Thier restaurant not so great. No seating right now I guess because of covid-19. I had an egg salad sandwich, average, I did not know if the bread was lightly toasted or just stale. I ordered a small mint chocolate chip shake but they were out of mint chocolate chip so no shake. My friend had their meatloaf and said it was good. My to go had no napkin.

Delicious, locally made ice-cream with a nice variety of flavors to try. Im in love with the Burgundy Cherry! Id love to find some grass-fed or organic selections. Cheers!

While visiting Valpo, I found this interesting concept and decided to give it a shot with my family. It was okay, and the ice cream was good, but they did overcharge me and seemed careless about that fact when I made the claim and I definitely think theres an opportunity to improve the experience.

Love to support local businesses, but valpo velvet is just mediocre. What I really dont like is they weigh out the ice cream, so its pretty pricey, where other places that make their own give you a lot more.

I asked for three scoops of three different flavors. The menu says $6.50 on the wall. I noticed immediately that it didnt seem like three scoops of ice cream and it rang up as $4.47. I asked about it, and she snidely replied its all sold by weight. Okay...well...not what the menu says. Got home and I got a small amount of only two scoops of what I asked. Poor attitude among staff and menu prices are irrelevant to how they actually charge you.

Good ice cream and food, prices are messed up, example 20oz shake $4.65 32oz shake $9.00 get two 20oz to make 40oz for $9.30.... same for floats. Also the 20oz shake is more a 17oz as they dont fill it........
