I stopped in yesterday, and I had a great experience! The staff is very helpful. And theres a vast selection of comics to choose from. Would highly recommend to anyone with comic book or gaming needs.
Legion had a wonderful staff. Everyone was super friendly. I mean you could not ask for better. The comics are super organized, but due to some moving everywhere is absolutely packed. I was just passing through and wanted to stop in, and was surprised when I went in. So dont be caught off guard. Guys told me they would be clear by August. Definitely worth the stop. Again, guys were super helpful and friendly.
A boringly average selection of board games, comics that youd find anywhere else (mostly Marvel/DC/Image, very few indie titles), & some TCG that you cant get close enough to view without the staff barking at you. They are in the process of expanding, so I cannot comment on the current cleanliness, but lets hope they make major improvements before they are finished.
A little crowd but my family loves this place has become a weekly stop for me and my son. Wow the customer service is wonderful and has a lot of knowledge. Can tell the owner loves what he does. Thank for bringing our childhood back.
Legion’s staff is absolutely phenomenal. John and Paul took their time and went out of their way to make sure we were able to get exactly what we needed. We could not be more thankful.
My favorite comic shop. Great staff, large selection, cant recommend it enough.
Great staff, great people, and wonderful products. Absolutely fantastic to watch them grow and expand! Definitely check them out for all of your nerdy needs!
Visited Legion in Cahaba Heights today. The owner Paul Stewart was engaging and very helpful! I plan to visit again.
Paul is the best he helped me get started 13 years ago with my dad thank you Paul !!!!!!
Awesome card and comic book store. The owner is awesome and very helpful.
Best selection of boardgames, card games, and rpg stuff in town. If you like old bookstores where you have to dig around to find stuff, youll love this place. It is organized, its just the organization isnt obvious. Josh is a sweetheart and Paul knows almost as much about games and comics as he says he does.
Love this place Ive come here off and on for years. Paul is the store owner and is very helpfu.
They were so cramp with no room to barely move around, but they are in the process moving stuff around. Also lackluster response when asking for help
One if my favorite shops around Birmingham, Owner is awesome and I get lucky enough to see him every time I visit. This time I was home to bury my mom and acknowledge that with me, really nice guy and this business will always get my support
Staff was friendly and helpful. Still had a lot of inventory to sort out.But an overall good experience.
Nice store. A little crowded but a lot of comics for sure. Decent prices. The place to go for busts and other collectables. Bathroom could be cleaner
Wow! Amazing inventory and super helpful staff. They know a LOT about the items and have great recommendations on how to learn and save. My new favorite store!
Pretty cool stuff really crowded though so its hard to find anything.
Well stocked with GW products. A bit cramped
Real family of comic and gaming enthusiasts. Wonderful community and knowledgeable staff! Stop in, ask questions, and youll be surprised how much fun it can be to have a friend find your next favorite thing.
Awesome staff
Worst service and owner in 28 years of going to similar businesses. Customer service is the absolute opposite of great. If that wasnt enough the store is a wreck.
Lots of stock having about anything nerdy you could want. From comics to manga to models and paint.
The most knowledgeable and committed comic guys Ive met in a while - also with nice personalities 😃. Happy to help me look for titles, very apologetic and happy to order for me if it wasnt in stock. So fun to search through back issues and see what trades were hiding in there. Not many places have Johnny Boo. Definitely visit if your in the area and just want to feel happy in a comic store.
My grandson and I love this store. Its tucked away, so much so that I hadnt known it was there until I Googled Comic Book Stores Bham and found it just a couple of miles from my house. The owner is quite knowledgeable and so helpful. We had the nicest experience there and I know Ill be going back with others, Its a great retro-experience mixed with modern merchandise.
I really want to brag on the owner of this comic book store. He is such a kind man. My hands were full and he helped me bring my stroller and items to my car and assisted me as I was getting my little one into the car. I know that doesnt sound like a big deal but it meant a lot to me because he took time to help me out when he really didnt have to. We need more of this in our lives and I would rate 6 stars if I could.
Awesome staff. The store was extremely cluttered when I visited so it was a little overwhelming trying to shop. They did tell me that it was due to 2 shops combining to one. I will definitely go back and highly recommend that everyone visit. We have to keep our comic book shops alive!!!
My son and I stopped here a few weeks ago while we were driving up to the northeast. My son was looking for a few comics to read while we were traveling. The staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly! These guys have a massive selection including comics, boardgames, and card/strategy games. Highly recommended.
I went with my son for the first time this afternoon since we’re new to the area. While there were some cool figurines in the store, it was way too crowded with stacked boxes. It’s just not a fun experience. Doubt I’d go back.
They recently closed their other location due to safety concerns (it was in a rough part of town). Instead of having off-site storage for the overstock, it is everywhere. I couldnt browse, but the employee fetched what I asked for. Itll probably be better once they can get that sorted.
Love legion. Ive been going for years. The management is phenomenal and always willing to help out where they can. Lots of people have stopped going to brick and mortar comic/game stores but I will continue to give legion my business as long as they are open.
Owner is very nice great service. Will definitely be back.
Great store, might not always have everything I need but are always willing to find it and get it for me. Employees are great! Wonderful place to play Magic, D&D, or just grab some comic books.
There are thousands of books in this store. Even statues and figures. Just remember to know what you need before you go here. The reason is because there is just way too much to look through for random goodies. The owner was a nice guy and thats always good. Also his pricing practices are questionable.... after you pick your books he goes on some site to price them and the prices are way inflated. The same books are in other stores $1 bin and probably at a higher grade too
Entering this store, it’s easy for someone who didn’t grow up in comic shops to think “what a mess.” There are boxes piled EVERYWHERE and it’s intimidating to navigate. For me, someone who grew up visiting a New Hampshire comic shop with the same chaotic organization, it’s exciting.I came to Legion because Kingdom closed. Already frustrated by the drive from Calera, I arrived to find that they were sold out of my book. I was upset, but understanding. Kingdom warned NOBODY and their competition didn’t know to order enough books for their “refugees” (as one clerk called us.)But the owner could sense I was upset and wanted to make it right, and after informing me that they were opening a second location in a month that would be a better drive, he pulled his own copy from his pile and sold it to me.I felt welcome and wanted, which isn’t always the case as a woman in the nerd community. Another store in the area always makes me feel like an outsider when I have to go in there. This started off stressful, but I’ll be coming back. I’m on the pull list now.
Good inventory. The employees are all very knowledgeable.
There is a LOT of stuff in here. Which does, yes, make it moderately difficult to navigate comfortably. However, the selection of gunpla is pretty much unmatched by anyone else around, and the model paint selection is fairly extensive (at least for my uses).
The store is a Hidden Gem! It has tons of comics as well as gaming supplies and collectibles. Plus they host games. I will definitely be a regular here!
Great selection of comics, boardgames, superhero statues, and some card games. Staff is wonderful. Owner is friendly.
Great selection of products. HUGE comic and graphic novel collection and table game products!!!
Very cramped and crowded store, and extremely messy. They have a wide variety and good prices so that is about the only positive. The general staff is very friendly and helpful, but the owner comes off as rude and very pushy when trying to make sells, and he has been that way every time I have gone there. If you are looking for something specific, they probably have it in one of their many piles of merchandise.
Legion is the place to go if you need minis or TTRPG gear ASAP. Staff is always really knowledgeable, owner is super happy to order anything you might need they somehow dont have. Also a generally great guy to chat with, he seems genuinely invested in his customers. The only downside is the store is kinda chaotic/messy, but employees always know where things are--just hard to find on your own. Normally I would knock off a star for the chaos, but owner is a wonderful guy and his willingness to go above and beyond is worth 5 stars. Highly reccomend giving them your business
If there are some harder to find cards for MTG that you are looking for, there is a good chance they might have it. Really helped me complete alot of EDH decks and the staff was quite friendly ad well.
A good place to find any issues that you dont have, but it can be really pricey.
Paul knows his customers. Both in the sense that he knows what people come in for, and in the sense that he remembers people when they come in. He almost always has what we want, and in the rare event he doesnt, he has no problem ordering for us. He has space for people to relax and play games in, hosts events, keeps refreshments, and always has good suggestions when youre not sure what youre looking for.
The people were wonderful and the merchandise was vast...really vast...so vast, in fact, that we had to step over piles just to get in the door. Once inside, it was just as difficult to move around. We had to slide sideways down aisles, reroute around teetering towers of boxes to get to the merchandise we wanted, and climb over things heaped in the floor. Honestly, it made me feel like Catherine Zeta Jones in that Entrapment scene with all the lasers. Im 5-foot nothing in the height department and can still fit junior sizes, and it was a STRUGGLE. My 240-lb husband nearly turned back at the door. It was our first visit, though, so maybe thats not how it always is?
Friendly, local business. Great customer service. Knowledgeable gamers.
Paul is a super respectable guy. His and his teams knowledge of what youll need for just about any game is amazing. If he can hell help you find everything you need and more.
I love Legion. Ive been going here for 20 years. The owner is friendly and if they dont have what youre looking for, he will get it. Cant say enough good things about it.
Very customer / community oriented store. If you are looking for a collectibles or gaming store like the good old days, look no further. Paul and staff are always friendly, knowledgable, and there to help. Definitely recommended to all friends and family!
Great atmosphere and very helpful staff
Really amazing selection for tabletop fans, dice sets, all the newest RPG guides, they mostly sell paper back graphic novels in the way of comic-books.The store is a little hard to find given the sign is down at but the posters in the window give it away.
A good comic shop. Paul is always nice and knowledgeable, and they really do carry everything. If youre looking for something specific, I bet you can find it here.
The guy who runs this place is very noce and knowledgeable. I go here frequently to buy tabletop miniatures and supplies, and my girlfriend gets her comics. They hold regular tournaments and have a strong Warmachine/Hordes group. They also facilitate d&d sessions or any other games you may want to bring.
They have a great selection of comics, statues & other things as well!
As for merchandise there is more than enough and probably a 99% chance that they have what it is in particular you are seeking-- within the confinement of the comic book, action figure, card game, etc realm. The employees were extremely nice and helpful. Surprisingly though the owner not so much, he comes across as rude and could careless if you were in his store or not. For instance: I introduced myself when speaking to him saying My name is Daniel, good to meet you and his response was literally ok then turned away but still stood right in front of me... it was a bit awkward on his part let alone rude. Definitely makes me think twice about giving him.my business.
What a fun shop!So many statues, graphic novels, action figures, and all around nostalgia. 😀
Paul is a real genuine down to earth kind of guy and he cares about what he does. The store is PACKED full of comics. Prices are fair, and its overall a good experience. It looks a little messy but its because of the amount of material he has.
Comic book heaven
Excellent selection. Biggest gaming and statute selection. I’ve scene. Great owner and staff.
If they dont have it, you dont need it. Extremely knowledgeable with superb customer service.
Large selection suitable to a good store, very insightful and knowledgeable staff.
Has great comics pretty cool atmosphere
Wonderful store with great staff and awesome stuff. Always come by for freinds and fun.
Awesome spot to discover comics, huge selection and awesome variety
Great comic book and gaming store. You can new to old table top games
Best comic book store ever! This is the only comic book store I go to.
So Ive heard pretty bad things about this place, but it wasnt like anything that Ive heard. Good staff, nice environment, and a discount if you pay with cash.
This is last real comic book shop in metro Birmingham area
The staff that I have had the pleasure to meet have been very friendly and courteous. Their selection is impeccable and guaranteed to have almost any product that you may be looking for and the pricing is fair. The location can be a bit messy but the clutter has never served to impede my movements in the store nor has it hindered my (or the staffs) ability to find what Im searching for. One of my favorite stores to visit.
Awesome place and great selection for your table top gaming needs.
The sales person was rude the entire time. Apparently, it is odd if you come into the store to just see what is in stock. He questioned me about very five minutes about what I was looking for.The store is way too messy, no organization, and it feels very slipshod. Kingdom Come and Excelsior are WAY better places to spend your money. Not worth your time.
Nice selection but the gentleman running the register is very rude. Its a very disorganized store and you cant tell the pull list boxes from the regular longboxes. So he rudely gives a what are you doing to us for touching the pulls. They are extremely slow and we will not return again. Put a lot of comics back that belonged to the adults, but purchased our sons only so as not to disappoint him.
Awesome place to play Magic the Gathering really nice people and a very good shop
Young guy who was working today was EXTREMELY helpful and patient with me - the dad who came in to get his kids started in their first true comic books. Ill be back!
Prompt, courteous service!
Seeme to have a decent selection, though very disorganized. It was difficult to get to the rear of the store due to an apparent shipment. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable. Not sure Id be able to find specific items without help.
Great service, best staff in town for a comics and game shop. Great selection too.
People who work there are very knowledgeable, help ful to your needs
Tons of comics/gaming for the hardcores. Very cramped and claustrophobic.
I went to this store for a long time, but the place has just gotten worse and worse over time. Last time I was in the shop, not only did I have to wait 20 Mom for my pull list because Paul had to “wait on someone, and needed to be ready” but a dog was peeing on the floor and there was a temperamental child being yelled at by his mom. This is a regular occurrence at this shop. The lack of space makes for little room to move, especially when there are 8 people and a dog just standing around yelling about the police handle drunk drivers. I tried to hang in there hoping things would get back to the way they were, but it doesn’t seem it ever will. I will be exploring new options for my books going forward.
Very friendly and helpful staff!
Paul is friendly and helpful and he has all the products one would need for comic reading/collecting, tabletop gaming, boardgames, Magic the Gathering, statues, action figures, and more.
One of my favorite places to go to!
Narrow isles and cant see games or things he is selling. It still is nice to see the things when we pull them out to look at them.
Great place to meet new friends and get cool comics and board games
Cool store loads of comics and merch and a super nerdy staff just the way u want it
Owner is great, people are great, and while the place is undergoing some moving pains its still a fun and relaxing place to sit down and play some cards or read some comics with others who enjoy the same.
Great place for all your nerd needs!! Lol.. seriously though great place!
Very informative and great customer service
Paul the owner is the absolute best. i wont go anywhere else
Most relaxed place to play magic Ive found
Cramped and cluttered but great selection of comics and games. I read Chew and can always depend on them to have the latest issues.However... I came in to browse a couple of times recently and left both times empty-handed. I think the employee(s) got a bit suspicious and stopped me at the door on my way out to ask if I needed help finding something, etc. I felt like I was being interrogated for shoplifting or something. That may not have been the intention but I did not necessarily appreciate it.I
The people that worked there were very rude. They had a nice variety of comics and figures, but everything was very cluttered. The floors were disgusting. But there was one worker in particular who kept making witty remarks and the entire time the employees were being idiotic by talking loudly and bashing superheros. I just wouldnt go back.
Paul is always willing to answer questions or point you to somebody who can answer it. His store is well stocked or he can order anything you need.
Always cramped and disorganized. The inside of the store is uncomfortable and poorly lit. The store isnt well marked, and the entrance door swings the wrong way.It is, however, the best shop in town for back issues.
They are very helpful and have alot of things for comic lovers and whatnot
