I started having my cameras repaired by Victoria Camera back in the 80s. My daughter took her camera there as well. They told her it wasnt worth the money to have it fixed. The people at the shop are great. No trying to take advantage of you. There is a fee diagnostic fee which is put towards the final bill if your camera can be fixed. My recent visit there was on September 21, 2021. The camera was repaired quickly and now works like a charm. Instead of buying a newer model of the same camera which had very little upgrades compared to mine and at a cost of over $650, I paid $166 to have it repaired. It was a no brainer. I recommend Victoria Camera Service to all of my friends. Oddly enough, when I told a friend about the shop yesterday, she said thats where she has her camera fixed too. Eliminate the middle man and go straight to the repair shop. Youll save money because youre not paying a store that sells cameras only for them to send the camera to Victoria Camera Service.
Dont waste your time here. They told me the diagnostic fee was 40$ and would go towards repairs or parts but apparently then at the end of the day they would have charged me 20 dollars extra just to put batteries in.. I got charged 40 dollars for nothing.I just wanted someone to quickly check my shutter ( which was locked) and would appreciate it if someone friendly told me that and I could figure it out on my own rather than wasting my time and money thinking there was a part missing and getting charged for nothing. Very terrible service, I feel robbed and should have gone elsewhere.
Just visiting Victoria. Dropped camera off on Tuesday, got it back on Wednesday. Cleaned the lens from the inside. Good as new. And I was ready to buy a new camera. Will accept camera via mail. Good to know its possible to fix a digital pocket camera. Thank you!
Ive dealt with Victoria Camera Service for years. Needed a camera repaired. Staff was polite and knowledgeable. Received an estimate in a couple days, repairs done in a week. Very happy with the service, highly recommended. There are not many camera repair places around anymore, we should support local independent businesses. Thanks VCS!!
My 12 year old son inherited an older Canon DSLR and we took it in for cleaning and adjustment -- they did a great job and got it back to us in about a week and a half. A week later, the memory card stopped working so I took it back in. The pins inside the body were bent and it was going to cost more than the camera was worth to repair, so instead they swapped the whole body out for another one that was in better shape. Total cost: $60. All to encourage a budding photographer in a tough situation. Kudos to them for real generosity and creativity in solving our problem for us. Ill go back in a heartbeat.
Sent my camcorder in, in March. No one opened it to remove the rice inside, so, no one actually looked at it.Opinion given that it could not be repaired. Opinion cost $$$Sent it back to me with nothing at all done to it.This know-nothing gramma went to youtube and was able to get it running. Also removed the rice myself.Still works great ! July 14/21Really, zero stars from me
Good unique service, thats hard to found this days. Thanks
Know thier stuff but only open 2 days a week.
I brought a second-hand Pentax camera in to see what was wrong with it...the service was fairly quick. It took them about a week and a half to call me back and tell me that it would cost more to fix it than it was worth.I only gave three stars because of the fact that they REQUIRE an UPFRONT FEE PRIOR to ANY DIAGNOSIS of the problems...which caught me completely off-guard. They DO apply the initial fee charged to any issues they find, so at least thats something!
I recommend Victoria Camera Service. I have had numerous cameras and lenses repaired, cleaned and maintained by Victoria Camera Service over the past 15 years and I have always been happy with their service, workmanship and results.
I have dealt with Victoria Camera Service for years and happily use them for all my camera needs old and new. They are friendly, very knowledgeable and easy to talk to.I deeply appreciate their bricks-and-mortar presence because I do not want to mail my camera off to another town.
Under promise and over deliver! So refreshing in todays world. Friendly on the phone and in person; up front; knowledgeable; trustworthy - and turn around time is prompt - often before the time they tell you, at the price they quote. Comforting that theyll be there when I need them! Thank You!
Horrible and not friendly environment! I wouldnt recommend VCS for anyone. Tried few DIY at YouTube, bang! I fixed by myself.
Was worried because of the mixed reviews but my particular experience was good! Had sticky buttons on my camera and took it in for diagnosis. I followed up 2 days later because of an upcoming trip and the camera was fixed/clean!Overall, Id say take it here if you think its a fairly straightforward fix. If youre really concerned, might be best to send back to manufacturer?
I highly recommend Victoria Camera Service for repairs and service to all camera equipment. They have, at various times, repaired a camera, tripod and lens for me. Each time, the diagnosis of the problem was clear and precise, the remedies carefully explained and the repairs and service expertly completed on a timely basis at a reasonable price. Their encyclopedic knowledge and experience with camera equipment is unrivalled.
They were able to diagnose and offer the only reasonable solution with regards to repairing my Canon Digital camera. I hate to throw away a piece of equipment that has served me well. They had a very reasonable turn around time considering they had to send away for parts. Very happy with this service and would go to them again every time!
Excellent, friendly service at a fair and reasonable price. Saved having to purchase a replacement camera AND avoided creating electronic waste.
They did great work clean up our Nikon that got mixed up with a bunch of foraged chanterelle mushrooms. More thorough cleaning than we could do ourselves. Fast, and effecient. Not inexpensive, $125, but nothing with cameras ever is...
I have had work done on two different cameras by this business and have been extremely satisfied on both occasions. In the first instance, they corrected a problem with my Nikon camera that the Nikon repair centre could not rectify. Most recently they repaired my Samsung NX1after it fell out of my backpack and sheared the lens off. In both instances they provided quick service and were fair in the charges assessed for diagnostic service on the lens and body. Repairs were done within the time frame and charges quoted. The staff that I spoke with were open and communicated in a style that provided all the options available. Great team!
When the shutter stopped working on my beloved Canon D-SLR I brought my Camera into Victoria Camera Service for them to have a look. They followed up a couple days later with a cost estimate to replace the shutter. The work was completed at the discussed price (a fair price), and in addition the technician let me know some water damage and loose screws were also tidied up. The work was also completed in the time frame we discussed.I should note, a couple years ago I also had a lens serviced by this crew and experienced the same great service.Should you have camera troubles, the staff here will do their best to come to the rescue.
Courteous, prompt, competent service. Ive had cameras repaired here a few times in the past many years and always been pleased with the work. This time, completely fixed a broken shutter. Good email communication throughout.
Wonderful service....I took both my Sony and Canon Cameras for a sensor cleaning. The price was fair, the work excellent. I was thrilled to have them looking like new....I will definitely be going back. Thanks Greg and staff, I so appreciated your help and efficiency~
I brought my camera in with a crack in the mirror box under the lens mount. I got a call saying they would glue that replace screws on the lens mount and clean the camera. I thought ok if it works I guess that’s acceptable. I got the camera back and I feel like the crack is bigger than I remember. I now notice an exposed pin some wear on a light seal. The camera has visible dust close to ports on the outside still. It doesn’t look clean. The only receipt is my debit receipt. I can’t compare what they claim to have done. But they should have told me to send it to Nikon because the crack is bad. They had my $25 but they had to squeeze $112 more out of me. I still have to send it to Nikon a week later and $150 poorer.
Thank you Victoria Camera Service. I brought in a non-functioning flash unit, received a quote the same same, and repairs were completed the next day. This was very much appreciated, as they responded willingly to my time constraints of leaving the city three days later. Thank you very much.
I went in to get my camera looked at to see if it was worth fixing or not. The two gentlemen went above and beyond to help me. It made my day. Definitely recommend.
Great service, great knowledge. I wouldnt take my gear anywhere else. And when I was the Tech Director at MediaNet Victoria we took all our repairs there, from DSLRs to pro level camcorders and always got great service and satisfaction
Informative staff - if they can’t fix they will someone who can. Please be patient because not all problems can be solved overnight.
Brought my camera in to get fixed (dust on viewfinder) and left with the camera not being able to focus on anything. Victoria Camera Service tried to put the blame on me that it was my fault that the camera stopped working while THEY had it in their shop. Pretty sure my blind dog could fix a camera better than these guys
Ive heard good things about VCS but was surprised how poorly I was treated.I brought in my working Nikon D90 to have the broken LCD screen replaced. I paid the extra cost of impact damage diagnostic fee of $50 which was fine, and I received a call back a few days later and was told there were some stripped screws, due to someone else trying to fix it prior to them, but they could replace the LCD and cover for $200, and asked if I wanted to go forward. I said yes, and waited another few days. The next call I received was a bit of a disappointment when they said they could not get the screen working due to impact damage to the circuit board and that I could come pick up the remains.I come in and to my shock the camera was still apart and not in working condition. They claimed it was not worth repairing and most likely wouldnt work if they put it back together due to the impact damage. Now, I bought this camera 2 years ago knowing the screen was broken and it has served me well. It works for what I needed but I just wanted the screen now to make my work more efficient. I told them it was working when I brought it in besides the screen and that I would like it put back together and in the same condition as when I brought it in. They said it would take a lot more work to even get it back together and If I wanted them to do that I would have to pay at least $50, and it probably wouldnt even work said the manager, tech, and other employee. I had to push them to even offer to put it back together and then even more to do it for no additional cost, and even at that they said it was not a working camera.Today I got them camera back and it is indeed working, besides the screen. So they tried to tell me my camera was broken, and wouldnt even put the camera back together or in the same condition as when I gave it to them, until I pushed on phone and in person and then it turns out it was still working after all. They complained about not making money and were very snide about the whole thing even though they were quick to write off a camera that is very important to me and did not uphold their part of the services originally.
As usual, excellent service. This time with a difficult problem requiring extra time and effort (no additional charge). Always go back to these guys.
VCS Ltd. repaired my binoculars about a year ago; but I did not use them for many months. When I did use them, the repair failed after one use. They told me there was no warranty given it was past six months and it would be $131 to repair (this included a 10% discount). I like supporting smaller business, but I certainly cant recommend Victoria Camera Service.
The folks at the Victoria Camera Service Ltd were friendly and helpful on the phone, and in person at the store. They very generously fixed my problem at no charge. This will be my first choice of camera service in the future. Five stars. -paul glover
I have dealt with VCS twice. Both times I was impressed with their excellent service. I am based in Ucluelet and could not believe how fast their turn around time was! All my communication with them ( in person the first time and via email the second time ) was friendly and professional and I found the cost to be totally reasonable. I would not hesitate to recommend them.
Would not, under any circumstances, recommend Greg and the people at Victoria Camera Service. I should have paid attention to the previous reviews I was reading.Spent almost $200 just to find out a number of items were not fixable.Get this! They didnt have the correct tool to open up my lens, so they told me they couldnt fix it. And yet, they STILL charged me. What a joke.Further, it took them forever to discern all this. For over TWO MONTHS I waited to be told that none of my things were fixable.... let that sink in... they charged me $200 to have me wait 2 months to tell me none of it was fixable. The only thing the Victoria Camera Scammers are good at is charging credit cards. Avoid avoid avoid.Youd be better off going to Camtex in Vancouver... or maybe just throwing the camera in a lake. Better than dealing with these fools.Owen
Charged me $40 to tell me that they couldnt fix my camera. I asked them how they came to that conclusion and was told that they had called Canon and been informed the required part was no longer made. $40 for a phone call. Rip off artists, would recommend avoiding.
Highway Robbers work here.I wanted to order 2 rubber items to replace on my Nikon Camera. The serial numbers were taken and I was charged a non refundable $28 fee, and told that I would be phoned with an estimate. When I got home I checked with Nikon to see what the prices were for the parts. One part was $3.60 and the other was $2.80. A few weeks later I got a phone call to say that the estimate for the 2 parts and installation, (stick it on), was $138.00. I declined both parts and suggested that I would take only one part that had come off and I had already paid $28. When they phoned that the part was in, they told me that to install the $3.60 part it would be $114.00. I suggested that I would take the part and stick it on myself and they told me that they dont sell parts. I left the store with nothing and contacted Nikon Canada, ordered the parts and they are sending me the parts. My cost including mail is $25.
Excellent and timely service - we are thrilled with the professionalism and courtesy we received from Greg and his team! Highly recommend! Lisa & Lacey (Island Moments Photography)
Brought a Canon DSLR in for service after a small fall. Found the staff helpful and the estimate and repair was done quickly as I needed it for a trip. The cost was reasonable so would recommend Victoria Camera Service to anyone who is in need of camera repairs, also they are a local shop so didnt have to ship the camera out east. Thanks Guys, you save my trip!
DAYLIGHT ROBBERYI brought my camera because the pin holding the lens and body was broke and I needed them separated. I was told it was 50$ instead of 25$ diagnostic fee because of the two pieces involved.Long story short, the VERY condescending repair guy ended up CUTTING and BREAKING the body to separate the two. Then I was told it wasnt worth the repair costs and that I would be better off buying a new camera. Really?I then phoned around different camera repair shops, including Nikon directly, and they said a good repairman should do the job without cutting the body. Do I need to say I wont be back?
They managed to salvage a wide angle lense that I had thought would be a write off and it is now as good as new!
Their diagnostic fee is a up front fee that you pay to get your camera looked at. It says 25$ but thats a lie, its actually 50$ (please update your crapy website). The lens was working, just couldnt focus on anything close or super far away. They didnt give a proper diagnostic of the lens they said they could fix for 350 $ after We agreed to that price. 3weeks later they tell us its going to be 950$. And that what they THOUGHT, was wrong with it wasnt actually what was wrong. So there diagnostic test that I paid for was just a guess. With out any actual hands on work with the lens. I denied this price. And the refused to put my lens back together with out paying 100$ on top of the 50$ We already paid. When we finally got the lens back, they put it back on the wrong focal distance ( they agreed to put it on infinity so We could still use the lens in the mean time). But it came back on the closest setting meaning We cant even shoot distances with a zoom lens. So its even more usless then what it was before it got sent away.Waste of time. And money. I dont trust these people.
Got a real bad vibe from these folks.I called looking for the cost of replacing the shutter on a particular camera model. I was clear that I understood my particular camera might have needed more work than that, but that I wanted to get a best case scenario so I could decide whether or not it was even worth repairing.VCS absolutely would not give any hints at cost without looking at the camera (and me paying them $25 for a complete estimate). I get their policy, they cant give a firm quote or give a repair estimate without looking at the camera. But there is no reason they couldnt say cost of just replacing the shutter mechanism on a Nikon D7000 is $XYZ.I live a ways away, and more than the $28 (after tax), I really didnt want to spend a day to fight the Victoria traffic just to find out their standard charge for that particular service (which may or may not be all my camera needed, I know). He said it takes a while to look up the camera model and part cost, so I offered to pay the $25 over the phone just to look up that cost (not even a full estimate looking over the camera). He still refused. That part was weird to me.I asked for clarification and he then said they dont really have a standard repair cost. That made me suspicious. Do they like to look at the folks, check them out in person, how they dress, what gender they are, or whether they can do some used car salesmen tactics on vulnerable folks? Who knows. Seemed strange that they wouldnt take the same amount of money just to do 1/10th the work over the phone.Anyway. We spent over 5min on the phone, me trying to find a solution that wouldnt need me to drive all the way down to get a simple price lookup. I was friendly and persistent, empathetic with his desire not to waste time, but they were adamant, and uncaring of my desire not to waste way more time.Overall, my spidey-sense went up. And more than just the non-focus on customers. I recommend looking elsewhere.Pre-post update: Just now, before I posted, I called up to see if we could reconcile the differences in private. I told my truth, that I had just written a review of my poor experience online, but wanted to see if we could resolve it privately. VCS first said that was a very strange thing to do, to write a review without being a customer to which we disagreed. We spent another 7min on the phone, and he said he probably could have looked up the cost in that time. I again offered to pay them for their time, the same $25 just for a simple cost lookup, but he kept saying they dont give estimates over the phone. I tried to get him to understand that I didnt need or want an estimate (an estimate is something like a guarantee, and I knew they couldnt give that over the phone).Again, this experience didnt pass the sniff-test for me. I didnt get the impression that he really heard or cared what I was saying. At one point when I said I value his time (20min to look up the details) and would gladly pay for it, to prevent having to waste a day to drive in, he said, I drive from Langford every day, the other guy drives from Duncan. Just a real lack of empathy for their (potential) customers that made me definitely not want to deal with them.Ive since read other reviews online and similar poor experiences complain about arrogant staff and an unwillingness to treat the customer honestly (several saying they get to the shop and the $25 diagnostic fee becomes $50). So I think my gut saved me from this one.Good luck and I hope my (limited) experience with this company was helpful.
They did an amazing job cleaning up the internal dust spots on my camera lens. Plus they had it done in a couple of days, great service!
Great services, great job quality. I tried different places. 2 in the lower mainland and those guys. Faster service. Better quality for DSLR repair or sensor cleaning. I have 2 DSLR, travelled with them in desertic sands area. Always good outcome ( Canon full frame) and fair price job done in a timely manner.
Quick and reasonably priced removal of a bent and cracked filter
Unbelievably horrible customer service. Would never recommend to anyone who values their camera. Highly suggest visiting any other store before even contemplating this disaster of a company- although they may fix your camera they will most certainly break another component of it and blame the customer rather than owning up to it. Do NOT consider this shop! I would give this place zero stars if I could!
Needed one screw for extension tube..$28 to find one...a search fee..$0 and out the door. Not impressed.
Did not clearly say how expensive the repair would be ..and when i asked why it was so expensive . he said any film camera will need many repairs over time .... a Professional photographer can afford expensive repairs not a hobbyist like my daughter who is earning min wage ..we paid $30 upfront and was told it would cost $150 to repair .. so we lost the camera and the $30
Great service from a very knowledgable staff
Fast turnaround on camera cleaning.
Great service
Not bad service
Great service
