Set up 3 guitars for me. Great job.
I brought an old Gibson Copy acoustic that just happened to be my first guitar. It had broken nut and missing bridge and basically was in disrepair. Gene hooked it up, Made a custom nut and bridge from bone and gave it a set up. Thing plays beautifully now. We talked guitars for an hour or so when i picked it up. I recommend.
Several years ago, I took my inexpensive acoustic guitar to Allanoke to get the action lowered (set ridiculously high at the factory). He filed down the bridge and dressed the frets, but, in doing so, scratched the hell out of the fretboard. It was a good sounding set-up and the action was much better, but the scratches were deep and unacceptable. Gene was already up there in years when I went, so unless he has someone with better eyesight and dexterity doing the detail work, Id take my guitar somewhere else.
Im not a musician, but my husband is. So I asked a friend of ours where he would take a guitar to have it repaired. my husband had a 12 string that needed a lot of work. Our friend told me about Allanoke Guitars. For my husbands birthday, we got his 12 string fixed up. Gene did an amazing job! In fact, he did such a great job, that my husband took a small 6 string Gibson in that had belonged to his grandfather and is over 100 years old.We picked up the 6 string today and my husband couldnt be happier! It looks and sounds GREAT!Gene also gave us a lot of advise about maintaing both of these guitars! We know where we will go anytime we need work done.Hopefully Gene ont be retiring soon.
Gene is personable and knowledgeable about guitars. He returned my 1972 Epiphone 12 string and my 1907 Gibson parlor guitar to playable condition. I will continue to use Allanoke for my guitar needs.
Great guy
Knowledgeable and friendly.
