Im in town for work and past this place a few times before I decided to look it up and see what its all about. Im always a fan of a local spot, especially one that has been around as long as it has. The atmosphere was exactly what I expected from an old diner. The menu has enough options to make it tough to decide and then comes the daily specials! I finally settled on the pick two combo of scallops and shrimp and completely satisfied with my decision. The scallops were fried to perfection with the perfect amount of batter. The service was great despite a busy lunch crowd. I highly recommend checking this place out!
Been passing this place by on the regular, to go to the car show at Bass Pro Shop...figured it was time to stop in. Pizza was great, bartender was even better. Served me a yummy-licious summer special drink. Order came quick, and was perfect. I will return... I should have stopped in a long time ago!
I dont think Ive ever had seafood that was so delicious. Everything was perfectly cooked. The fishermans platter is huge and every item on that platter was to die for. The service was amazing and they make you feel like family. If you love seafood this is the spot you need to go to.
Living in a neighborhood I was driving by thousand times but never was in. Despite all negative reviews we decided to give it a try. So..1. Service was ok, nothing special, nothing horrible.2. Interior - you might it look like 1920x, but you not suppose to clean it last time in 1920x - AC registers are covered with a black dust/mold, we breath this air.3. Most serious - Fisherman’s platter we got.. Fisherman’s platter is one of the important options in a menu of a seafood restaurant, this is a variety of everything you do, this is the best you can. Folks, first, I understand you do not have price on it, saying “according to local market prices”, but if you charge 45$ for Fisherman’s platter, this really should be the BEST Fisherman’s platter in the New England and Cape Cod. The Fisherman’s platter we got was far behind their competitors price-and-quality-wise. (I would suggest you folks go to any other place, e.g. Arnolds on a Cape Code, order same platter and examine the price (30$) and a content). I would like to pay a special attention on the onion rings (which is exactly 50% of the fisherman’s platter content in a case of Red Wings) - rings are TOO thick and badly peeled before fried in oil, making them barely edible.4. Bottled beer was ok.
Ordered a fisherman platter for $40, was told missing some items but would make it up in other stuff. I paid $40 for a glorified fish and chip platter.. that’s not the bad part... I have called 3 times to speak to Liam and have gotten no response.. that’s the reason I won’t go back. I’m a regular customer over 20 years!!
They had the best food out of places to eat there and the service was far out.
What a Gem! The locals know this because the place was packed. They feature genuine New England seafood with available whole belly fried clams which were very fresh, perfectly fried and not overly salted or spiced so you could taste the freshness. DELISH!. The staff were great and didnt try for overblown service. Practically a perfect restaurant.
On the plus side:The seafood is usually fresh, and the fried food tastes like clean oil is used. The bad side;Super bland, tastes like NO seasoning at all on the onion rings and fries and seafood, not even a pinch of salt. The place is kind of dirty, needs a new cleaning regimen and the bathrooms redone. There was food stuck on the walls, like lots of different kinds.Got to clean the place up before I would go back for a 40 dollar seafood platter.
Had a lobster roll with truffle fries. Was pretty good. Food came out super fast and was hot and fresh. Literally 4-5 minutes after order, food was out. Was a good experience.
Our first visit to the Red Wing in many years. Food is even better and menu more varied since my last visit. The interior dining room is renovated and very pleasant. The broiled halibut, the steak tips, and the fried clam plates were delicious. Wait Staff was highly efficient and knowledgeable. We will go back very soon.
This little shack is amazing. Then again, it always has been! Some of the best pizza you will get anywhere, at any price. Amazing home made soups and chowders, and insane fresh battered onion ring plate... The cherry on top is a warm and kind wait staff that aims to please. Love little gems like this!
Food excellent, server sweet polite efficient, wait time from kitchen to table…much too long. About twice as long as it should have taken. The restaurant was not busy or full of people. Only 1/3 occupied.Acoustics in dining area very noisy. Could use something to baffle sound. Lots of Drapes maybeI would return solely because food is excellent.
Good food, good service. They were out of the entree I was interested in, but my backup dish of a plain lobster roll was good. Should have asked for butter! My inlaws love the whole belly clams and fried scallops. The pizza is amazing!
Place does not look fancy, and the menu seems basic. But the food was very good. We had very fresh and tasty fried scallops and halibut. The onion rings were very addictive.
Red Wing is Awesome Outstanding Owner fantastic employees great food. Liam is one of the best people I know he has loyal customers for many years. The prices are great seafood Excellent and you have to try pizza its unbelievable. The fried clams and fish whole menu highly recommended. Keep up the great work looking forward to eating dining room soon. Have a great spring summer. Robert from Sharon.
Yes...they do fried seafood and many comfort foods, very retro styling and old-fashion hospitality. Whole belly clams were plentiful on volume but less so on flavor. Do try the chicken pot egg rolls.
The food is to dream over. The servers are awesome. Its abit noisy. Was a 50 mile trip to get there well worth it.
Fried foods (Clam and scallops combo) takeout placed directly into Styrofoam containers prevents me from ever going back. This never used to bother me, but now it does. Get paper. The world has changed. Adapt. Its not fair, but its reality. OK, its me not you. Sorry. This used to be my favorite seafood place, 5 star, best Scallops by far. It kills me to stay away. Ive sent so many people here. Its a really great place. Ill be back if they switch to paper.
I have so many good memories of the Red Wing Diner. Their fried clams and pizza are the best around. When you go, order them both!
This place is super nostalgic and Ill give it points for that. More points for the people. The servers were so wonderful. The food wasnt. Scallops were barely done. Chicken fingers were heavily seasoned. The fries were good though!
I had the fish and chips. It was very good, very large portion, and exactly as I hoped it would be. The service was very friendly. They had taken measures to ensure different parties were seporated, in most cases more than what is required, so they seem to take safety seriously. We didnt have to wait but it was fairly busy. Good prices, good food, friendly service. What more can you ask for?
Red wing USED to be so good and generous on portions. I went there yesterday got a small fried clam plate for $21.99 there were like 8 clams and loaded with onion rings total rip-off!! I told the waitress she didn’t really seem to care she said next time order the full size plate but guess what there won’t be a NEXT time!!! Must of changed ownership the new people are RIP OFF ARTISTS!!!!
Excellent food, generous portions. Very nice service.
Had fishermans platter for two was excellent atmosphere in dining room was old style nosey staff very attentive overall would come back
Great place for home style cooking. Today I had baked haddock with bread crumb topping, green beans and red bliss mashed potatoes (made without milk or cream) made to perfection. Fresh, flavorful and more then I could eat. Lisa was our server and was experienced and gracious too. Shes been there for 22 years and Red Wing Diner has been there since 1931.
They were so accommodating taking our party of 7 late. Wonderful service, great food!
Great food, service is kind of slow. But the food is worth the wait. I had the fish & chips.
Great place to socialize and wonderful food, very friendly staff and they are very friendly. Good lobster salad roll too
I can safely say that the red wing diner has all I love been coming here for a good 10 years and will always come back there food gets an A+ in my book n tummy😉
The place has changed a lot. Ordered 70$ worth of food and they forgot my bread pudding. They would not respond or replace it. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Food was great, service was good would recommend for a Nice relaxed dinner or a quick snack.
My Grandparents and my Parents used to take us here almost 50 years ago.. looks the same on the outside and a different paint color on the inside. But the food and the memories are the same as I remember. In a time where restaurants seem to come and go this place has stood the test of time. That says a lot about the character of this place. We started with the Irish Nachos... Really good... Then a Thanksgiving Turkey wrap and daily special Tuna wrap... Both were exceptional... Sorry I lost some of the pics I took ... Oh well I guess Ill have to go back again.
I went here with a friend after a business meeting. When we got there we noticed a sign for 16oz bud drafts for 3.10 we each ordered one and were brought 12oz glasses. When we asked our waitress Susan M about it she told us they were the only size glasses they had. When we mentioned the poster at the door she had no idea. I recommend they remove the sign; I was not giving an attitude and she became very combative and agitated. Susan informed us she would mention it to the bartender then came back and told us the bartender said our glasses were indeed 16oz with an attitude. I wish Google allowed photos because the glass we received was clearly a 12 oz draft which we were charged the 3.10 for. I would give more than one star as the food was okay, unfortunately after questioning the falsely advertised beverages we were treated very poorly by Susan. I have never felt more disrespected by a server. My friend and I are by no means stupid and telling us a 12 oz glass was 16 oz felt like an insult to our intelligence. The whole thing left a bad taste in our mouths. Unless youre looking for rude wait staff and lies stay away from Red Wing Dinner.Edit: after seeing the response from the owner I will say this. Ive been a temp bartender/waitstaff for 8+ years pretty sure I know a 12 oz a glass when I see one. Its possible that the glass provided by your waitstaff was 12oz and she didnt know. Regardless as I stated she was the worst as far as customer service goes. I took pictures of the glass and receipt Liam. I have a feeling your response was to save face. Does that look like a 16 oz glass buddy. And your waitress says those are the only ones you have.It was bad enough being insulted by your mediocre waitstaff and to be insulted by you; the owner just confirms my feelings about your waste of space establishment. As someone whose been in customer service the better part of my life I can honestly say you and your employees could benifit from learning some customer interaction skills. No matter how much a customer has upset my in my line of work Ive been nothing but nice. You and your people are just rude
Great food. Great service.
No frills seafood and pizza. Good service, good food and hefty portions.
Soooooo many times!Ive been here an uncounted amount of times, and my parents have been coming here many years before that. Although the pizza is great I cant stop ordering the clam strips. They are fresh and crispy and you can tell the kitchen changes the oil often. Although they address great warm, Im a weirdo and love them cold almost as much as I do warn.4 out of 5 stars because I dont enjoy the bathroom.
Love this place, a must visit everything I go home to Walpole.
The food was amazing and the staff were exceptional. Very friendly and efficient.
Best fried clams I have had in over 30 years.Calamari was amazing, insanely good banana pepper sauce. Great value, amazing quality. This place rocks!
That was the most blend, nasty food have had in a while. If you have zero taste buds this place is for you…just Disgusting!!!!
Tasty take-out! Unique chicken pot pie eggrolls! Adored the butternut squash ravioli special, and Hubby swooned over the garlic crust Hawaiian pizza! Great find near Gillette Stadium.
Great place i was in at there busiest time and the service was still excellent only gave 4 stars because they are kinda understaffed
First & Last time at this diner... Feel Lied to by the Phantom Gourmet & Ripped off by the Red Wing! Always wanted to try this place after all the hype I heard. What a let down! I should have trusted my gut when I pulled into their parking lot which has basketball size pothole right by the front door. Always nice when you come with relatives who use a walker! The building itself is a dive inside & out.Needs renovations badly! I didnt wanna ruin the evening for my party so I ventured inward. Inside the place has a musty smell...Bathrooms are very old and outdated! The toilet stalls dont even have doors! We were Seated at booth which has all kinds of old food debris stuck between the seat cushions...GROSS! This is the kinda place where everything you touch has a grimy sticky feel. Some people might consider this kinda restaurant has a cozy vibe? Nope! Its a dump! I ordered the Whole Belly Clams that are billed as Ipswich Clams Market Price $24.99. You know the real whole belly clams from Ipswich Massachusetts! The waitress tells me the clams are on the small side today!(((RED FLAG))) Looking through their reviews here on Yelp I noticed telling people the whole bellies are small today. Is line I found as far back as 2014 reviews of other customers. This is so they can cover themselves if somebody complains about the clams later. My clams were small alright..see the photos i included with my review.Tried one of the clams and it tasted like frozen clam strips from the supermarket! I asked for a doggy bag and took the clams home. Once I got home the clams went straight into the trash can. Again I didnt wanna spoil the night for my in-laws birthday dinner. The rest of my party had the Haddock which was most definitely Cod. The fillets were to big to be Haddock. They said it was very bland fish! The kids ordered a Pizza & Calamari which both were undercooked. Just a big disappointment overall!
Everything I have got here is excellent. would highly recommend
This place just went out of its way because my husbands birthday today, The owner went somewhere and when he came back he had a little gift which was the sweetest. Even the staff the waitress that took care of me answered all my questions from yesterday and she was super sweet. This place is awesome I cant wait till everything goes back to normal so we can eat inside. Thank for your wonderful hospitality ❤️
Great whole belly fried clams. Fish sandwich was huge and tasty. Will be back again for sure.
This place take its Chowda seriously! Great service, great food. Do not let the look of this place fool you, this is a cantiss if near Gillette Stadium.
Like a blast from the past...hasnt changed since childhood, and thats a good thing! Still great food and service!
Best fried clams around. Been going for years.
Best pizza I have had with a great customer experience . Have to go back !
No frills is an understatement, but the food was very good. Well be back for sure.
I love how the one star reviewers only have two reviews. Skip past them and eat here. The portions are more than generous and the food is great. The only disappoint is the oysters are no longer on the menu. Ive been coming here since I was knee high to a grasshopper and have never been disappointed.
Very friendly staff..generous portions, fish and shrimp very good, family friendly atmosphere, plenty of parking
Every time my wife goes back east she insists on going to the Redwing. Yea, its that good. She has been going there since she was a kid. I love the fishermans platter -I can almost eat the whole thing myself.
Excellent food and portions. Great waitstaff which always makes for great dining.
Fantastic, Haddock melted in my mouth. Fried clams were sublime. Thinly battered and sweet.
I read the reviews and had to try the fish chowder and the fried calamari. Both were really really good and the banana peppers sauce was wicked 😋. Ytaff is very friendly also
A hidden gem. Their chicken fingers are the best.
We had the clam cake appetizer and shared a fishermans platter. The platter easily serves 3; the app was the size of an entree (no sides). The clam cakes were a bit reminiscent of Rocky Point Parks clam fritters, though less deep-fried. The clams in the platter could have used a bit more cleaning, and were a bit small. The shrimp were big and nicely deveined. The scallops and fish were good; the haddock was perfectly cooked. The platter came with enough onion rings for a table of four, and plenty of fries, and a full cup of cole slaw. The slaw had bits of carrot and a good crunch to the not overly shredded cabbage. We got an assortment of sauces, including remoulade for the clam cakes, cocktail sauce for the shrimp, tartar sauce, and ketchup. Go hungry, leave happy, plan on leftovers.
Have been coming here since the late 70,s early 80,s....still great!
Hands down some of the best fried clams ever. Clam chowder is awesome too.
Outstanding still after all these years.
Friendly old school diner. Great food and friendly service. Its nice to diners like this one still in business!!
Fun Friendly! CLAMS WERE fresh and Clean!!!!
My family has been coming here for 60 plus years. My grandparents have taken my father and my uncles and it still has the homely feeling with amazing food. Cant wait to take my son and keep the tradition going!
Wonderful service and TR he food was excellent.
Never going back again!! Food was lousy and cold. My friend got the clams and they were cold. The place never did any updates, the bathroom the worst.
Awesome place great pizza and sea food
First time visit! Gentleman (owner maybe) immediately sat myself amd my son and got us drinks. Large menue with many dishes. My son got the lobster mac and I got the chicken parm. Both meals were excellent! Server was very pleasant and kept the drinks full!!! Food came out quick. All covid rules we being followed (not that I care for any of them) Will definitely be back. My new stop after a Bass Pro visit!!!
Best fried clam s Ever..
We ordered the Fisherman platter. It was so much food, definitely enough for 3 adults or maybe even 4! Everything was delicious. If you crave fried seafood, try this place, you’ll be happy with it. Staff was very friendly which is always nice to see.
Always great. Food is fresh and delicious. Please make sure to support them during these tough times
Went with a group of women from work on a Friday night. Didnt need a reservation and we were seated right away. Used to need reservations or had to wait in line but not anymore. The food is just as good but I think competition from Patriot Place may have made their numbers dwindle a little. Great for us. We had excellent service. Great wait staff. Food came out quickly. Seafood is market price, so it was a little pricey, but worth it. Large portions and always leftovers. Rest of the menu is super reasonable. They are very accommodating. You can split and share plates. The adult drinks were very generous and the beverage specials were delicious. The waitress was very attentive so we needed nothing and she even took a photo of us with our phone.
Excellent, Great food 👌
Great food, service, prices, and atmosphere
Great food great service
40 dollars for the fried seafood platter for 2They should be ashamedWe use to love this placeWere Done.
Delicious. Everyone very friendly and nice.
Had chicken parm sub and fries which was very good and espresso martini which were excellent
