Rare Coins of Michigan is a hidden gem featuring an expansive inventory with very competitive pricing and quality stock. Often better pricing than large well known online venders. The phenomenal pricing is paired with very knowledgeable Numismatics ready to assist you in your quest.Perspective for sellers: Just because you see something similar or identical on eBay for $1000, that’s not an appraisal! e.g. I in fact have a rare card found on eBay ranging from $1200 to $3500…in 30 years I can’t get $5 bucks for the thing. Your stuff isn’t always the treasure you believe it to be. That said, this is also a business, a for profit business. If you want retail prices for your merchandise, with all due respect, get your own storefront. If you didnt notice, the lions share of poor reviews are would-be sellers that thinks their circulated wheat pennies are worth hundreds each and got bad news. The poor reviews are in no way reflective of this business or your shopping experience inside. Bottom line, VERY good pricing with quality merchandise and a healthy verity of it. Something for every collector and INVESTOR. If Rare Coins doesn’t wish to quote over the phone, that’s their prerogative! I strongly suggest knowing your current day pricing, go in to this location, inquire and I’m willing to bet you walk out a happy buyer. But if you want to stay away over phone calls and crazy people thinking their junk is treasure … all the more for me and my brother, Rare Coins of Michigan’s newest dedicated customers. Clearly, I highly recommend this hidden gem in Warren. It’s in the big white Comerica building. I enter the south facing doors (west facing doors face Van Dyke) go to the elevator, hit “3”, get out and walk just down the hall.
Mike and Pat are awesome. I was there yesterday for the first time ever. I just met them. I needed some coin flips. Great price for them. Mike answered all my questions about some Silver American Eagles I had purchased elsewhere. They looked a bit different but Mike assured me they were both Brilliant Uncirculated. Very informative. Pat even liked the one better. Pat was having a great day too, he was joking about how Mike sprung some really beautiful toned silver coins on him that he just had to have now! I think these two guys are great. They run a clean operation. Great shop on the 3rd floor of the Comerica building. Highly recommend. 5 stars for these guys. Keep up the good work gentleman.
Most rude people you’ll ever encounter. Worked with a women before and had a good experience. She was very informative and helpful... on the phone and in person. This was years ago, though. The gentleman that answered my call this time was rude and unhelpful. I’ve shopped here before but never again. The question was simple... how much above spot do you charge and/or how much at this very moment is a specific coin going for. Knowing prices change by the second... I just wanted buyers confidence before I brought any money in. The guys answer got firmer and louder every time I asked another question about pricing... “WE DO NOT GIVE PRICES OVER THE PHONE”. We’ll guess what... everyone else did give prices over the phone and that’s where my business went and will continue to go.
I dont understand these people that say Mike is a rude person because he is notthe store is a hidden gem with a fairly expensive variety of coinage and I hope to deal with them for many years to come.
SCAMMER. paid $100 over price (compared to multiple other coin places) and owner was incredibly rude. don’t go here
The worker was really rude and impolite. I do not recommend this place.
Id barely give this guy half a star extremely rude and I asked a simple question..do not go here...how this man has a business noones will know
Owner made us feel unwelcome. Wont be back. Just read all the reviews the majority of reviews feel the same.
I see how people complain but its all perspective. Stop being so sensitive. The lady owner was really nice and helped educate my son. Thanks guys!!! We enjoyed our trip. Look forward to more business in the future.
Seemed friendly on the phone. I was curious about certain coins my friend saved.
Had a large amount of hand-me-down coins and I wanted to know the value of them. I took them to Mike and he appraised them for me. He was very knowledgeable and professional. I have very little knowledge of coins and Mike was very patient with me and took the time to answer all of my questions. He even provided me with a bunch of interesting facts that I did not know before. Cant speak highly enough of Mike and his business. Outstanding service. If you are looking for a coin appraisal I highly recommend Rare Coins of Michigan in Warren.
I went here about 6months ago asking a question about coins and the man was very disrespectful.
My husband and I visit Rare coins every weekend. We are not serious coin collectors. We’re just trying to build a little something to leave our children - hopefully a long time from now. Anywho, I like to ask a lot of questions - like why some coins that look like they’ve been through a war are worth more than nice shiny ones. The owner is really knowledgeable and always explains the years, mint marks, volumes for each year, etc and how those influence the value of each coin. He’s always been super nice to us and his prices are right on mark or below what I’ve seen else where.
Bad Attitude smart mouth I simply asked him a question about 100 bill worth he responds with unprofessional way spend it. Like he have jokes. Lame person and wont let me speak to a supervisor. Do not do business with this Clown.
Called for details was immediately answered by someone with an attitude. I stayed polite the entire time hoping for a change in the persons demeanor.... I was going to try to sell my entire coin collection to them for a very good price so that they could make a profit because I obviously dont have time to sell it myself individually it would take years... my questions were answered but I was made to feel like I was bothering somebody. Because I simply asked what they charge to appraise the collection.... I got my answer but the tone in which it was received was unacceptable....Sorry I ever called here and ruined your day by asking a few questions. Wish we couldve done business. Im sure Ill find someone who likes to invest to buy the collection I havent had much luck with coin places as they all seem to be aggravated when you call them. Must be a depressing job, I have no idea.
The man working was extremely rude asked a couple of questions and was blatantly ignored or was issued a rude response will bring my business elsewhere. I do not advise shopping there
Let me first preface this by saying I am a working professional (accountant) and I dont get my feelings hurt very easily. I have been liquidating my coin collection over the past several years to get money to put towards my new house. I have sold most off, but still have various pieces here and there. I decided to try this guy out since Im new to the area. I brought him some proof sets, a small bag of wheat cents and several Indian Head pennies in great condition (from my searching on the internet they appeared to be worth ~$150). I entered and said, Hello, I was wondering if you could take a look at several coins I have to potentially sell. He responded by disdainfully dismissing everything I brought him as nearly worthless-he threw out an offer of $2 each on the Indian heads. I said, Im sorry, I must have had the wrong impression. Then he went on to ask what I expected and how foolish I was for even entertaining the idea that a price guideline found online would be remotely accurate. He repeated this process with all my items and I declined all his offers. I have sold thousands of dollars worth of coins at a time and I have sold several dollars worth of coins at a time-this attitude is simply unacceptable. Take your business elsewhere.
Mike is incredibly knowledgeable. He explains how coins and currency are worth based on grading. Many people assume coins worth based on internet searches. Please understand the internet does not take the time to explain grading like Mike does. I went to visit him to sell my international currency. He does not deal in international currency but pointed me in the direction of another dealer who purchased my entire collection. Thank you Mike for your time, knowledge and referral. I greatly appreciate you!!
I just called the store earlier, a man who answered the phone, i asked him how much he would buy my silver rounds for, he told me he wouldn’t give a price over the phone and i should come in, i called other places and they had no problem giving a price over the phone, I’m glad i didn’t waste my time driving to his store, i don’t think i would ever do business with this place.
Not worth even one star. The old guy should retire because he definitely sounded like he hates his job. He was a rude jerk (I d like to call him something different) He should also take a course in customer service. Every single item I showed him, there was a problem with it (according to him) I know he was interested but he was being a cheap greedy bastard. The sooner hes out of there the better your business will be.
I called and the guy was very rude. like I was bothering him. My business is going elsewhere.
Just started to visit with little purchased so far, but seems honest & reputable, with reasonably fair prices. I’d recommend them so far, quite highly in fact.
Love that place. Good man runs it. Go there!
THE WORST SERVICE EVER. The man was an a-hole for no reason, never said hello when I walked in and continued to have a sour attitude toward me. I took my business elsewhere because he said my stuff wasnt worth anything. This guy isnt well educated when it come to coins or paper bills. Too bad for him because one of my items I sold went for over $500 because of the rarity. That seems like a lit of money for something that Had no value DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME COMING TO THIS PLACE.
Just in case someone think it was a just a glitch in the staffing recently. About ten years ago I swore I would never go back to this place. I was used to showing forms of ID for transactions. ( of course ) To sell a gold Maple leaf I was asked to fill out forms that in years of gold and silver purchasing I had never seen before. Not only that but the price they would pay was way under spot and I was made to feel like that they were doing me some kind of big favor. In other words I was treated like some kind of crook..I and my business walked out the door. Id rather deal online.
His prices seemed a little low to me.... Like with wheats, nickels, ect. Gave me the generic .2 for wheat and .10 for buffalos like some stuff is worth more! But all in all it was ok.
The only going to tell me that my coin wasnt worth anything and all the pennies I had was only worth $0.02 and I looked him up online he lied he trying to steal people money
Rude owner I’m hung up on me before asking me how much I got to spend. I said depends. Hung up
Rip off dont waste your time
Great selection of coins. Knowledgeable sales staff.
Nice lady, very knowledgeable, and a fair price paid. She is fun to chat with too.

Lady behind the counter was quite rude. Acted as if i was bothering her. Didnt offer me full spot, then wants to charge $5 over for what im selling. Tried to bargain, she got offended.
RUDE!!! If he doesnt like what he does he should close up shop.
Very UNPROFESSIONAL and RUDE Went to this coin shop to be told that she has noway to tell if gold coin is gold unless she melted it down really?? Are they in the Gold Business or Coin Business? They dont know what a REAL Krugerrand weighs? Is this place that far behind in time or just DUMB maybe they just dont care or want to help you, DONT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS PLACE.
