I think its great to have a supermarket across the street from the Foggy Bottom Metro. I usually get something in the bakery before heading for home when Im in the area. Today I met a friend for coffee before going to the nearby Textile Museum. I got there first and didnt have a problem getting a cup of coffee. My friend came later, stood on line for fifteen minutes to get a cup of decaf, and refuses to go back. If you have the time, coffee and the choice of so many good pastries is a good deal. If youre in a rush, go somewhere else and pay twice as much.

Dear Whole Foods, if you run a store that is open for business, did you ever consider it might be good customer service to staff it appropriately? In the last few months from a potential 18 registers you have MAX 5 open, only…….And a line of on average 60-70 people….. Really? You call this delivering customer satisfaction? Maybe creating a more fair working environment might attract more staff and ergo improve your image all round. Very disappointing.

I’ve been shopping at the Foggy Bottom Whole Foods for six years because it’s the only real grocery store in the neighborhood, and the best way I can describe it is utterly dysfunctional. If this store were a nation, it would be a failed state. Basic items like half and half are routinely out of stock. The produce is appalling (moldy tomatoes and rotten peppers are the rule rather than the exception). Products are regularly sold beyond their expiration dates. The deli is open arbitrary hours that seem to change based on whenever someone feels like staffing it, and even when it is theoretically open good luck finding someone to help you. And of course, there are the lines; waiting 20 minutes is normal, but waiting 40 is certainly possible on any given day. The root cause of these problems is obvious: neither management nor staff cares one iota about the quality of their work or the customer experience. They simply don’t. Whether you’re trying to purchase from the deli, the bakery or the coffee bar, there’s a sense that you are inconveniencing them; at the cash registers, staff sometimes refuses to speak to you. The consistent level of rudeness is surprising even by DC standards. Still, one could write this off if the store delivered on its mission to provide fresh, high-quality groceries. It doesn’t. Every single shopping trip is a hassle. And the truth is that it’s never going to change, because this store is the only option other than Trader Joe’s (which offers mostly prepared and packaged foods). Given that, there is no reason for me to write this review. You, dear reader, are still going to shop there. Just like me. Still, I feel the need to express the degree to which I find shopping at this location to be a miserable, frustrating and disheartening experience — one that often leaves me thinking about what exactly is wrong with society.

The check out line is understaffed to the point that there is usually a 10 minute wait, or longer. Also, there are no conveyors to put things on, so its just a few items at a time then put them down in your bag, adding to the slowness. Worst WF experience Ive had because of this. Big store with good selection that I dont want to buy from. Get it together, Amazon!

Im downgrading to one star because I now know that when GW classes are open, there are not enough WF cashiers to cover the amount of people online. There may be 40 or more people on line. Also, keep in mind that its a small store so they may not have all the products you used to seeing at a whole foods.Im downgrading this rating from four stars to two stars not because this location is small and hard to get around, but because they dont even try to staff their deli or inform you what the deli hours are. Sometimes I show up in the delis closed they tell me it closed at 5:00 or closed at 7:00, they just have no idea. Once I showed up at 6:30 and there was no closed sign and somebody was behind there but they told me that it was closed I just hadnt put the sign up yet.

I have newborn twins so cooking a traditional Thanksgiving dinner was not something my husband and I even considered within the realm of possibility this year. I saw that Whole Foods was offering holiday catering options so we decided to try it out. We got a whole roasted small turkey, the sides bundle (green beans with shallots, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and gravy), and Mac and cheese. It. Was. Incredible. Seriously, it was so good we already decided we’re ordering again for Christmas. And it made me question why I slave away in the kitchen (even though I love cooking) every other year. It was so easy to reheat the items, even in our tiny condo kitchen, and I had more time to spend with my family. Hats off to the chef, and thank you to the Foggy Bottom Whole Foods for making our COVID Thanksgiving a bright memory in this crazy time.

The stock is usually low and the lines are incredibly long. Going early in the morning is a must if you want a full selection of products. The hot food area is alright, and the pizza has been severely downgraded since they switched from the firewood oven to the electric one. The burgers are the best deal! The junior burger (one patty) is around $5 with tax. You can order these from the kiosks at the back and wont have to wait in line since you can pay right away.

Got street parking for once on this visit. There were signs as soon as you get to the front door about masks being required. All of the customers I saw were complying. The staff all wore gloves and for the most part, the store was very nicely laid out to accommodate social distancing. The food bars, like the olive bar and hot bars had pre-packaged options for customers to still get those items safely at the same price (if not cheaper). The checkout line moved quickly and was equipped with shields to keep the workers safe. The checkout workers also wore masks and gloves. Overall, a great experience.
