Union Kitchen Grocery has quickly become my go-to spot for grab and go food/drinks. I frequently work at nearby venues and stumbled across this place in need of a quick bite before work. They have incredible sandwiches, extensive drink options, and a lot of awesome, DC made provisions. Above all, the staff is friendly and could not be nicer. Huge shoutout to Bill for crafting some delicious sandwiches during my recent visit.

Nice selection, but the pizza i picked up literally came out warm on top and bottom but cold in the center where the sauce is, like when you incorrectly reheat a premade meal... at that price point, this is unheard of. That said, i give them points for offering products which you dont find in typical stores

Excellent service, selection and quality. Extra cool social entrepreneurship through their incubator kitchen approach. I had a delicious lunch from the prepared foods at the salad bar. And I had a really superb cortado made by a very thoughtful staff person who made sure to try the specific coffee before serving me since she hadn’t brewed it in a while.1 single stall bathroom.

Great selection of food staples, garlic, shallots, wine, beer and takeout. Lots of chilled wines priced around $15 range which is excellent. Did not try indian food but it looked delicious!

I had a hot chocolate with a delicious chocolate croissant. Great atmosphere, great food. 10/10.

The food is good—consistently good, quick and affordable. Its perfect for an easy lunch and theres a number of choices. Great go to place to eat. And, the service is great too!

I live in the neighborhood. I never shop here because they never have what I need, not even the basics. I gave it another try today, I needed whole milk. They did not have any on the shelf. I asked the staff if they had any whole milk. They said they had one. I asked if I could buy it. They said they couldn’t sell it to me because they needed it for coffee tomorrow. Which is infuriating, why tell me you have it available when you don’t. And how can a grocery not have milk?

Pros: Brioche breakfast sandwiches are awesome. Best chocolate chip cookies anywhere. Cold brew coffee and tea. Good selection of yuppie groceries.Cons: Too much dill on the salmon toast. Some of the staff were still training. Sandwich guy seemed unhappy.

Great avocado sandwich for breakfast, coupled with Compass coffee. This was great to find after finding out the Compass coffee stand disappeared from the Convention Center.

Has everything Id normally get from Whole Foods, but its a small store, so its a much more pleasant shopping experience.They have great wines chilling and ready-made food, so perfect to hit up before a picnic or dinner party.

The bacon egg and avocado sandwich (I added goat cheese) was easily one of the best sandwiches Ive ever eaten! I will be back soon. Folks seemed friendly as well.

They had delicious food made quickly. I had the BLT Avocado sandwich and a side of roasted brussels sprouts - very good!

Union Kitchen Grocery, while expensive, has without a doubt one of the best customer service I have ever experienced. I truly believe Sean (Shawn)(?) the cashier cares about the individuals he is helping. I just moved to the area and my mother, who helped me moved, was leery about the area, but after her encounter with the cashier at Union Kitchen Grocery has changed her tune. Thank you for the awesome service and the delicious drinks!

Had two isles for groceries and one was entirely beer and wine. Had a great pizza but wished it live up to its name as a grocery store.

Part of Union Market, this great little gem in the heart of shaw! Small (but yum!) salad bar, with delicious and customizable sandwiches and toasts. I personally recommend the salmon toast (and swapping the cream cheese with avocado). As for the groceries, you can expect local goods (made and produced in DC) and lots of healthy (and often vegan!) options. Keep in mind that this place is small and gets crowded fast! Go at a random time (3 pm?) to avoid lines and crowds.

Absolutely stunned by this place. I have never been treated with such disrespect. The woman at the register was extremely rude towards the three of us. The chef was rude as well. I ordered a hot cocoa and it was all foam! I went to the register and explained to her that my hot cocoa was all foam. Immediately she got defensive and the chef stepped in and was rude. I was ganged up on by 2 employees for asking a questions about their hot cocoa. The chef said make a new one for her and then the woman at the register said no and completely ignored me. I walked away pissed. I sat down and a few minutes later there was a new hot cocoa. I refused it, because I will not accept anything from a place that is so rude. I highly recommend anyone to NOT go here. Yes the owner tried to make it better, but she did not have her employees apologize. As a visitor of this area, this is the worst customer service experience I have ever had. I will be happily reporting this to Zagat, Google and all other review platforms.

Great neighborhood place, can be a little pricey for standard groceries, but if you need beer/wine/coffee/snacks or cute gifts, its perfect for that!

Cashier was stand offish when trying to order food. Didn’t even look at us and when they did, very passive aggressive attitude. I asked a question and she didn’t respond to my question. First time visiting here. Not sure if I’ll come back again.

I am only reviewing the over the food service, not the grocery part. The food was decent, but what bummed me out was the short selection of tea / coffee. The menu wasnt terribly long either.
