I LOVE this place! Great produce and some of the best organic/vegan bath products without any harmful cancer causing chemical add ins! I love thier pre-made deli items as well. So tasty.

I love it here! The atmosphere is warm and inviting and clean. A variety of items are available and for being healthy choices this place is very affordable! If I lived closer I would be here everyday. The vegan chocolate cake is among of my favorite sweet treats to buy.

I would give this a five but since this was my first time there, I dont know how they do things. I had two of their big paper bags full and one was especially heavy. I thought they would help me get them to the car. Im 71 and could not have handled two at a time. These paper bags did not have handles either. No staff offered to help. So I put the bags in the cart then had to manipulate the cart through one door into an entry way and then through the next door to the sidewalk. Then down the curb to my car across the street. Of course I had to bring the cart back and manipulate it again through both doors. Not even when I got back inside with the cart did they say anything.... Not even thanks for shopping. Guessing this will be my one and only time going there.

One of my favorite spots to grab a quick bite in Wausau. It’s hip and cozy. The live acoustic music that often plays over lunch is soulful and just puts me in a good mood. One of the few places I don’t mind eating alone with my laptop. Besides that the food is fresh, healthy options and delicious!

Always a positive experience here! Amazing produce and great local options for almost everything they also have a great wine and alcohol selection! Years ago they carried a riesling that I adored and would sometimes get myself as a treat. I asked about it a few weeks ago, they said sorry they no longer carried it and hadnt for awhile. Today I came in and it was back, just like that! Great customer service and they clearly listen to and value their customers opinions.

This place cares about the environment and thus all its products are with good quality and healthy. It also support local farmers. Staff is very friendly and their food bar is delicious. They have vegetarian and gluten free dishes.

My favorite place in Wausau!

So much more than an organic market. One stop shop for the whole array of hard to find items including ethnic foods. Charming building and wonderful staff. I was able to pick up rice paper wrappers and some hard to find flour and other ingredients for baking bread that I am not able to find in larger groceries. Organic items are in a lot of instances priced less than the largest grocery stores.

Very good selection of organic goods and fair prices. Good wine and spirits. They also have a by the pound seasoning/seed/beans section which you can fill Jars, bags, and such.

This local grocery store carries a variety of ethically sourced goods. They carry organic produce. They have a got and cold food bar for people on the go. They have a nice selection of vegan and gluten free items for those with alternative dietary needs/restrictions. The prices are fairly comparable to a co-op for organic but less than many grocery stores will carry the same item for. Items do not contain high fructose corn syrup- which is amazing when you have a corn allergy... One less corn based ingredient to have to scan for! Staff is friendly and helpful. They also have a grab and go sandwich and snack section.

Downtown Grocery is in the vanguard of the emerging (emergent?) local & natural food businesses. As a community and economic development professional studying this subject and visiting as many of these types of businesses as possible, I can say that Downtown Grocery is among the best. It may be only 2,000 square feet- but the selection is excellent. Great selection of made-on-site and local/regional produced prepared food items, as well as local produce. Also, a daily selection of excellent hot breakfast, lunch, and dinner items, as well as salad bar, which draws a good crowd.

Best food ever ..... is an understatement. The food here is better than chef quality. I think there might be alternative lifestyles cooking in the kitchen, Amish? Vegan? Something? I dont even know or care, whoever writes these recipes knows food. I literally have never tasted better food at any other cafe or restaurant. The menu on the buffet changes daily, but its always insanely good.

I was employed by Downtown Grocery in 2015 and had a great time working for the owners! The hot bar and salad bar are delicious. You can always find something healthy and flavorful. Huge selection of goods for any diet. The baked goods are also great! The Vegan Chocolate Cake is my favorite. Truly a gem.

A wonderful grocery store. True gem of the city. Has unique and high quality food along with all the staples of modern life, at competitive prices. All the employees and the owner are extremely helpful and ready to discuss food and nutrition. I would highly recommend to anyone as a place to take out of town visitors as well as a place to get your all your weekly necessities.

This grocery is a haven! It would also be perfectly situated on Main St. in a large metropolitan area. The wine selection is fantastic. It is very clean, well lit and orderly.

I have always been a fan of the Downtown Grocery. However, before the fire my son was unable to shop there due to inaccessibility. During their time in the mall, my son fell in love with their hot meals. We were concerned (happy for them though) that he would once again not be able to shop there when they returned to their old location. We were beyond thrilled to discover the opposite! The doorway is now accessible. He was able to go up and down each and every aisle! Downtown Grocery is on our weekly errand list now. The gluten free selection for my son is awesome. I no longer have to trek to Stevens Point for vegan products for my self.The staff is so helpful and friendly. Downtown Grocery is a true gem in our community.

We shop there A LOT (at least weekly) and we buy 95% of our food there. Everyone is so polite there and are so willing to help you out! We will continue to shop there for years to come. Very good healthy foods along with great staff! Grab breakfast or lunch while shopping, their deli there is wonderful! And you know you are eating healthy foods.

Cute little organic store in Wausau. They have really interesting items such as smoke salt flake and different kind of craft beer. Vegetables are not as fresh as Whole Foods, but it’s a nice plus for downtown Wausau.

The remodel is very very nice and they now have a wonderful open-air Upper Room to have lunch or coffee. Five star oatmeal raisin cookies with a cup of coffee.

I like getting lunch here. Theyve got a hot bar with a large range of variety so you arent getting the same meal every day. Im a big fan of theirs soups, especially during the cold winters around here. As far a grocery store goes, I only shop here for emergency ingredients since its nearby, but its a tad expensive if you were to do all of your shopping here. Theyve got a decent selection of alcoholic beverages, which is always a plus. Overall Id say a great option for getting lunch, and if you are into the whole organic food thing, than this is your place to shop. (I really appreciate the reply from the owner in regards to their grocery prices and am editing my once four star review to five. Although I will probably still only do grocery shopping here for emergency supplies I thank you for taking the time to read my review and give feedback)

Everyone at downtown grocery takes a lot of pride in what they do and really believe in the small community store model. Some of their products are a bit more expensive but theyve been picked out to be of high quality rather than based on their price.The foods that they made in the store are extremely good, breakfast especially.

Great food from the salad bar and excellent wrap/sandwich in the cold deli section. Locally made food from great ingredients. The service was excellent and selection was great, especially for up in the northwoods (Wausau). The added appeal is the interior and exterior of the building. Wausau has done such a good job revamping the downtown. I had not been here in 15 years and it is totally changed, for the best! Im happy to leave my money with an establishment like this...as local as you can get!

This is my favorite business in Wausau, hands down. They have multiple hot and cold meal options for breakfast-dinner including main dishes, soups and a salad bar. Even my meatetarian boyfriend loves it. Their produce is all organic, often local, and most items are not over-priced. The only thing I wish is that they used compostable containers for their to-go food instead of Styrofoam as it seems to run counter to the sustainability mindset their business and customers embrace.

This is a great place to get a variety of groceries with many healthy options. :)
