Really nice little restaurant just off of the Town square in downtown Waxahachie. The restaurant is inside a antiques and craft store which is a little confusing at first but it is a huge background that has big windows with natural light and really warm decor.Staff was super friendly and took us right to a table to be seated at our drinks on the table before we had even opened our menus. Fantastic service! My son and I both had the burger with kettle chips and a corn relish and my wife had the heirloom tomato salad with fresh mozzarella. The burgers were kind of ordinary but still good and the fresh mustard on them was really good. The kettle chips and cornrows were excellent. The relish was sweet with just a little kick from the peppers. The heirloom tomato salad was one of the best salads she had ever eaten according to my wife. Everything was very fresh and the balsamic vinaigrette dressing had a very pleasant little Tang that she really enjoyed.Highly recommend this place for a light lunch especially if youre planning to explore downtown waxahachie.
The wait wasnt long at all & the hosts were extremely friendly. Food was extraordinary!! The chips that they serve with the panini bread & hamburger has such an original taste. My mother-in-law had the Cobb salad and said it was soo good! I wish we wouldve tried the dessert but foods servings were just right & hit the spot.
Very delicious food. That is someday I would like to own a place like that one very friendly and good food. It remind me of cracker barrel. I will come back and meet there again
Stopped in for a quick lunch, everything was clean, every staff emember was extremely friendly and knew the menu when asked questions. The food was wonderful, portions were on the smaller side but everything tasted fresh and delicious. Im so glad I stopped in!
Ive been visiting Waxahachie, Tx for years and one place I always make sure to stop in, is The Doves Nest in historic downtown. Its a very beautiful place to shop for unique gifts all year round! You can also have delicious lunch with friends, in their attached restaurant.
Cindy and the entire Doves made our wedding day amazing. I planned the wedding from out of state and Cindy guided me to success. From the moment I walked into the Doves Nest to the end of the night I was amazed by the attention to detail given to every aspect of the wedding from the table set up, food, professional staff, all the way to the flowers and decorations. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. We had the beef tenderloin, with mashed potatoes, and asparagus. The meat was tender, the sides perfectly seasoned, and the food came out hot. Our experience could not have been better! We highly recommend The Doves Nest for an exception meal, catering, or event.
Good food. Wonderfully staff. Hard floors, walls and ceiling make dining room a little louder than I prefer as conversations seem to carry.
The Chicken/bacon Curry salad is just wonderful! The atmosphere and service is top notch. I always enjoy my time at The Doves Nest.
If you find yourself in this area, then your in luck. This restaurant/store was great. Wonderful atmosphere and food. We did feel a little out of place as the sign said mask were a choice and as me being on too us Texans hate being told what to do. I had the ham and jam sandwich and the wife smoked turkey sandwich with the texas Cesar salad. They were both amazing. It was loud as hell because of the tall ceilings but it was still a great experience. You got to try it friends its a treat. Eat well everyone!
Truly a Waxahachie GEM!!!! Get the TEA and the ham and jam sandwich:) Also some of the best service you will ever have :)
Loved everything! The orange spiced tea and chicken salad were amazing! My husband had the chicken salad sandwich and said it was very good.
A real local gem in old downtown with friendly staff, excellent food and a cute souvenir shop as part of the restaurant. This place is always packed with diners and for all the good reasons. I would highly recommended Dove’s Nest. Thanks!
Second time there for lunch while visiting from Washington. Ham and Jam sandwich is amazing and tomato salad is delicious. My husband was hesitant about going there, but ended up loving it and wants to go back when we come back.
Stale kettle chips, stale crostinies. Sad because thats the side item, only side item for everything on the entire lunch menu. ABC spread isnt a spread at all nothing creamy holding it together etc. I was expecting like a cheese ball etc. Its not, its a bowl of straight up shredded cheese that falls apart and doesnt spread. Very disappointed. Nothing fancy or special about the place. All the breads and sandwich fillers i.e. turkey are just plain old regular grocery store junk. Completely overated on the food and atmosphere. Echo is so bad in the building the restaurant it is so loud uncomfortable. Chocolate pecan pie supposed to have scoop of ice cream on top, nope a tiny little sliver not a scoop like pictures. No food served comes out looking like the picture. Never again! Food is gross atmosphere nothing special
This place was very quaint and the food was delicious! We had a fantastic waitress who was just fun and a joy to be around! My wife got the veggie pita and I got the burger. Both were fantastic! If ever in this neck of the woods I suggest coming here!
Went in for lunch today. Quick and attentive service. Our server, she was great. The special today, blackened chicken on flat bread & asparagus soup, was very good.
This place only have orange spice tea not sweet tea like normal places and all of their food just about is seasoned with jalapenos which doesnt make any sense and theres salad only have two types of dressing one with jalapenos and the other one is a vinaigrette I dont think Im going back anytime soon
I just went here with some friends for the first time, it was great. Logan was so nice and the food was wonderful 🙂
Best buttermilk pie Ive ever had
Doves nest is a staple in this city... the menu for the restaurant is very limited and the store is kind of pricey but very beautiful items. would definitely recommend shopping here...
Ladies will LOVE this place. Just not a guy place. Food was good.
The food is great and so is the service! Tried the house burger with chips and the panini with the soup of the day (it was white chicken chili). Everything was delicious!! To finish it up, we ordered the blackberry pudding topped with ice cream. SO GOOD!! I wish this place was opened longer hours but it was worth the drive from Dallas!! Give it a try if youre in town!!
When in town we always try to get to the doves nest.Food is done just right, everything goes great together on the dish you order!! Dishes done with skills you dont find in most places!!
Great little place with amazing soups, salads, and sandwiches.
Amazing!Cozy, great food.Stop reading reviews and go see what youve been missing.
Friendly staff and a good environment. The food was delicious.
Incredible place, the special tea of the day was so refreshing and light, good food and service
Delicious menu, super sweet wait staff.
I have visited the Doves Nest for over 20 years and it has always been an excellent experience. I bought the cookbook on one of my first visits. Tonight was the 1st time I made the white chili. It is excellent. My husband likes it better than chile con Carne. AMAZING!!!
Love this place! Have to come everytime I am in Waxahachie.
I typically love eating at the Doves Nest. It is the only time I allow myself to have dessert. I first ordered the chicken salad medley. It was absolutely wonderful! I moved on to the bourbon chocolate pecan pie and was amazed when it was sat in front of me. It looked exquisitely divine, but unfortunately did not taste that way. The pie crust looked so appealing but tasted stale and was hard as a rock. I could not eat any of it. The filling was good, but I like crust with every bite of filling and could not eat it. The dessert is expensive enough that I should be assured of its quality and taste, and I was disappointed, otherwise I would have given 5 stars.
Food was good and fairly priced. But they sneak in little charges without letting you know. If you pay with a credit card, they tack on an extra fee without informing you before hand.
The best food ever! Had the Ham and Jam sandwich. Can I tell you it was the best ham sandwich Ive ever had! And the bread pudding...heavenly! Go to this place...you wont be disappointed.
The food in the atmosphere are good, be prepared to pay for it too.
Just love this place. It has been around forever and is always wonderful. The food is legendary and the service is great. The connected store is a wonderful place to shop. Highly recommend and buy the cookbook!
Adding the 3% credit card fee to your bill. Sign says due to lost business because of COVID. Like all of us did not have losses? Another excuse to pass on their own cost of doing business. Yes I can be inconvenienced and pay cash, but I can also choose to go somewhere else. Which I am.
Good customer service, delicious food.
Met a friend for lunch. Enjoyed shopping
Great all time favorite home cooked appetizers, meals, and deserts!
Food was good. Some of it was pretty spicy. Nobody wears masks not even the servers. So it was kind of scary for us we were all in our sixties.
The Doves Nest is one of the best restaurants in Waxahachie. The service is fast and very professional. The food is outstanding!
Charming and fun but not safe during a pandemic:If you like southern-style diners and boutiques, this place is great! Their shop is very cute and the restaurant is homey with great food. All of the servers were kind and patient with tons of southern hospitality. My only concern was with their protocol during COVID-19.None of the workers or servers wore masks or gloves. They even had a sign up at the front reminding people of their rights not to wear a mask (a bit passive aggressive and political in my opinion). When our waitress came to our table to answer a question, she stood directly over me and my food. When I visibly pulled back from her, she pulled in even closer. To add to this, they definitely seated over 50% of their capacity. The restaurant itself was charming with good food, but the staff need to be trained on safer and better standards of serving.
No masks in sight..this isn’t recent, this has been since the beginning of the pandemic, which, is a very bewildering choice seeing as how one of their employees died from Covid...Food is overpriced. Service is terrible. Save your money and health by going somewhere else.
This place not only has a diverse selection of beautiful decor, antiques, jewelry, clothing, and one of a kind pieces for you to shop for, but it’s been one of the favorite eating places in Waxahachie for well over 20 years. There isn’t anything you can order that isn’t THE BEST you’ve ever had! You can’t go wrong inviting someone to this place to eat, you’ll be sure to impress. Don’t forget to pick up one of their famous cookbooks on the way out so you can attempt to prepare some of their delicious dishes at home too! The owners and staff are first class, and welcome each and every person that enters. There should be more stars to select for this restaurant!
We’ve been coming to this restaurant for years and we’ve always had excellent meals and service. The owners are the best hosts ever! Y’all should also check out the great selection of their gift items, jewelry, clothes, books and furniture. They make the best “Bourbon Pecan Pie.” It truly is a great place to shop and the people there are very welcoming. Southern hospitality at its finest!
Delicious sirloin steak cook my way. Fluffy mashed potatoes and green beans. Loved it all.
We are so thankful to have the Doves Nest in our town. Recently, we were delighted that we could order home cooked meals for some dear friends. Cindy Burch has created evening family meals menu besides the daily lunch menu. Try the soup or specials or desserts. It’s a friendly atmosphere if you like to eat and shop! 😀
Ive been a few times, customer service is meeeeeh - i always feel they are looking down on me and would rather be anywhere but there. Food is meh. All just average.
Lots of fun shopping
Pleasant surroundings and good food. Wonderful!
We did curb side pickup this evening due to theVirus. We did the pot roast meal which served four. The meal was absolutely excellent. Brought back memories of eating Sunday dinners and moms cooking. For desert we had the bread pudding, buttermilk pie and chocolate pecan pie....couldn’t make up our mind so we got all three😀. All three were excellent but especially the bread pudding! We have found our new favorite place in Waxahachie!
So the food was really delicious. However not one person in that place had a mask on. None of the staff. It kinda seemed like a slap in the face. I was down from Oregon because my dad had literally just died from COVID at Baylor Waxahachie on 12/09 (he was only 54 with no previous health conditions). I reluctantly ate there because my dear friend wanted me to try it and like I said the food WAS good but I felt like they are trying to prove something by not wearing masks and it is honestly just sad. Get over yourselves.
The Doves Nest is always a favorite place for lunch with friends or family! The service is always friendly and the food delicious! During this time, take out service as an option is great and they have delicious family meals to go! Order ahead for take out or browse the gift shop while you wait. I always stop by the store for unique gift ideas!
The jalapeno BLT was so good and the Squash and cheddar soup is a new favorite for me!! Very nice atmosphere and when you are done eating you can shop all the beautiful gifts!
This is a great place to eat, but I was really surprised at the staff not wearing masks and not following CDC guidelines.
I was definitely surprised by the quality and portion size of the food. Honestly, the veggie pita is delicious. What I did not care for was the noise level in the dining room. That place is a veritable echo chamber of gossiping white women. Talk about anxiety. I really truly would have enjoyed myself if the environment wasnt so oppressive. Doesnt seem very welcoming to people other than suburban or rural christian whites.
We came to this place for a meeting. my friend recommended this spot. Well, it was very successful. The staff members were very polite and we had a fantastic feeling. The meal was great. We had a great time and we shall absolutely come back again. Keep it up.
Really good food & service! The chicken salad is fantastic!
The special attention to detail is what sets The Doves Nest apart from many restaurants in Waxahachie and is why it is one of my very favorite lunch spots. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. It is obvious the owners take pride in serving delicious food using ingredients that are super fresh or house-made. Recently I discovered the jalapeno BLT and I dont think I will ever look back!
I love this place, but was very disappointed when we visited on the 30th of September and none of the staff/waiters were wearing masks. They did not have the tables six feet apart either. Based on the signage they were making a political statement which really made me change the way I feel about this place. Now that the president has contracted COVID I wonder if they will care about their customers enough to have a mask mandate. SMH.
Excellent food, atmosphere, and service!
Excellent. Wonderful place.
I can always know that Sonic provides a good buy on a Route 44 coke during Happy hour.
We’ve shopped and dined at The Dove’s Nest for many years. The owner, Cindy Burch, takes great pride in making The Dove’s Nest a unique local destination in downtown Waxahachie. It’s a must stop if you’re looking to experience everything our downtown has to offer.
The salmon with Caesar is wonderful!
Absolutely a hidden gem! I worked here in college and had the best time meeting/serving people visiting from around world.
Awesome. Ben was our waiter and he was great!
Guys, check your man-card at the door; its about to get a little feminine in here. Despite the atmosphere, the food and service are always great. Good portion sizes, too.
Jalapeño BLT is wonderful and then some!
My very favorite lunch place!
We love this place!!!!! Phenomenal food and the staff is so friendly!!!!!!
The food was very tasty and very cool atmosphere too!!!!👍🤩🍻
Great little place. I ate there for brunch and had great service and good food.
The soup was fabulous! Ive enjoyed everything Ive ever tried at the Doves Nest and the store is such a treasure chest of goodies especially at Christmas time. Go check it out yall.
Very nice store! The store rents out sections of the store to various vendors. Whenever I visit my sister-in-law, we go shopping. The restaurant is excellent, too! I had the artichoke hominy soup that was amazing! I want the recipe! It was not in the cookbook that they sell. ☹️
Great!As Always
The Doves Nest is a quintessential tea room on the main square in Waxahachie. That is, the clientele is almost exclusively older white women who have the luxury of lunching at will.Ive been to many tea rooms over the years with my mom, and the drill is the same. Chicken salad sandwiches. Flavored iced tea. Good food. A genteel atmosphere.I was not disappointed. Food excellent. Service excellent. Good prices. Id go back.
Very good food. Service was spot on. Went there again with family. Again the service was personal. The food was exceptional and creative. This restaurant needs to have a sixth star. Eating environment is very appropriate. Prices are reasonable. Desserts were very good. The buttermilk pie wass scrumptious.
Great food! Ive tried the ham and jam sandwich, the BLT both very tasty, and pecan pie which is to die for. I also love their orange iced tea, super yummy. I love their spicy but sweet jam they serve, its very delightful. Service is always quick and superb. Food is reasonable priced.Parking is tough to find when busy and wait times can be long, but the line moves fast it seems. There is not a place to sit and wait per say, just the little shop to look around in. Very cute rustic decor, just pricey. All around great place, good food, great people and atmosphere. A true gem in waxahachie.
Beautiful antique store brunch place! A nice place for a morning or afternoon meal. Lovely atmosphere and great, friendly service. Definitely a favorite of all my female friends.
The food never disappoints. Love it.
Hamburger with bread and butter pickles was amazing. I also enjoyed the orange spiced ice tea.
Awesome little restaurant.
Really cute place in an old building with tall ceilings. Great food, friendly staff, reasonable prices. I will definitely come back. The ice tea is really good too (orange spice, but not overly done). You can look around the gift store in front while youre waiting for a table. It gets crowded, but we only waited about 15 mins for a table.
My husband, daughter and I are eating here at the restaurant right now. I had the avocado blt with the cheddar squash soup. Its amazing. My husband had the burger with the bourbon molasses mustard and he also had the soup. We both loved our meals. My 2 year old got the meat and cheese roll up kids plate with fruit and it was perfect for her! We were seated quickly, got our food quickly and it has a good atmosphere. We were looking for something new to try. So glad we tried The Doves nest. We will be back.
This is a nice cozy restaurant. I would have given it a five but they keep taking the sandwiches that I like off the menu. Theres not much there I like to eat anymore but for those who likes salads and for what limited sandwiches they have Im sure you would give it a five-star. Service is great and the food is great.
