Chock full of music in every format as well as books and merchandise. If youre interested in the vinyl your knees may not appreciate it but there are some great finds and theyre well kept and alphabetized.
I normally don’t leave comments unless they are to show appreciation to an Employee or business. But I was looking forward to visiting this location since I am new to collecting vinyl and new to the community. But from the moment I called this location and ask if they would be open. A man picked up and seemed annoyed I called to ask him if they would be open on a holiday. Unlike a few places I’ve called, where the employee would explain why they would be closed and then offered to provide me with business hours throughout the week. This man just said no and then went to just hang up. I can see they don’t appreciate customers, I’ll be more then happy to take my business else where.
On Black Friday, I gave them a call late in the day and they had the release I was looking for. Explaining that I lived out of the area,, He said he would hold it for me until he closed at 8pm. When I got there, sure enough, he had it waiting for me! The store hasnt changed much from 20 years ago when I was a regular. Small aisles, packed with a variety of styles, genres - vinyl and CD. Walked out with a handful! Great to see Sound Exchange is still rocking after all these years! Worth the trip for any music fan.
Came into the store preparing to spend a lot of money. As I was shopping, the owner/employee and a woman were politic bashing. I understand everyone has free speech, especially when it comes to your own business, but this was hate speech. Generalizing and using derogatory words to describe a certain parties supporters. Very distasteful, immature and unprofessional. I left and took my business elsewhere. The owner/ employee should realize people from all political affiliations shop at his store.
Prices are on the higher side than other local shops, but good selection of CDs more than vinyl. Some of the vinyl covers are creased and bent from being packed together tightly, which shouldnt be when paying above online retail prices.
Good used and new selection and, if its not in stock but still in print, just ask.
The vinyls on the floor, there is so much stuff here which is great but there is no room to move around, so if there is more than just you in the place, it’s impossible to find anything. There are tons of hidden gems here but it’s difficult if you have back issues. The people there seem knowledgeable and have been helpful whenever I have come in there. There are 2 other record stores within 20 miles and I find they aren’t as congested so I go to places more often than this one.
Awesome Shop with an amazing varieties of Artist. Shocked I found a couple older albums I couldnt even find online
Very helpful ones at RSD 2020 at August he helped people got wishlist and packed vinyls before you enter shop .. thank you so much guys )
Owner or employee has little patience. I didnt even feel like roaming around to buy anything and left disappointed. The store holds more records than it can clearly handle it is just a pain. Ended up going to Station 1 Books & Vinyl in Pompton Lakes and these people are the bomb and are much more informed about vinyl records and willing to give you some helpful info. You will walk out of there with at least 1 or 2 records.
Wall to Wall, ceiling to floor. You want it? They got it. If not they will special order.
This place is chock full or rare and obscure musical gems for anyone willing to dig. The staff is friendly and helpful. I ordered a CD and it came in about a week later. They called to tell me. Nice selection of buttons and stickers too.
As much as I want to support Sound Exchange, I cant justify paying $6-10 more than Discogs or Amazon prices for CDs and vinyl whose edges and covers are damaged from being crammed in this tiny shop. I understand they need to make money, but when the condition of the content is that weak while charging premium prices, its hard to commit. Owners should make a more organized system to secure the integrity of the packaging. I will say that they do carry some cool bootleg and rare items that cant always be found online. Staff is normally friendly, although Ive had instances where Ive had to rifle through bins myself.
Great selection of CDs, tons of rarities, bootlegs, and imports. Cant say Ive looked through the vinyl but they have a lot of that, too. Store is small and a little hard to navigate, but thats fairly common with these small specialty music stores. Its still well worth the visit.
Staff are always nice. Big selection and willing to order anything out of stock! Boyfriend always leaves with some type of vinyl! Just a little crammed for my liking.
Great store with an amazing amount of stock. The only problem is looking through the items. There is far too much stuff and if Im being down to look for something and someone needs to get by you have to move out of their way. Ive always found CDs or LPs here I could not find at other stores. From literally floor to ceiling there is music or music related items.
Selection is good in this crammed little store. Unfortunately the prices are higher then anywhere else. Literally the one record store Ive entered and left with nothing more than once!! And I love to support cd/record stories. Owner is rather unfriendly.
The place is pretty small but has a decent amount of Vinyl. They are however located on the floor making it pretty hard and very uncomfortable to search. The records are well organized (A-Z) but only seem to stock mainstream artists. Pricing is decent, $6+ for used vinyl, they wont do a deal though, everything is priced final.
Solid rock and punk selections for vinyl. Skimming through is a bit rough, as all the records are on the floor and leaning back on each other. Overall, its def worth checking out. I recommend it.
I absolutely love this place. Im so glad it has lasted as technology has taken over. They have a great selection of music.
I love this store! They have CDs, used and new and they also have vinyl. I also saw some cassettes. They have a big selection and a lot of the ROCK music that I love.
I have kind of nostalgic memories of renting VHS tapes here in the back. They still have cds crammed into shelves and high pricing. Its not really a go to place for me at all.
Found an impossible to find album here. Check here first! Staff is always more then willing to help you look.
This store is actually pretty amazing if you are into metal/industrial/hardcore. I dont know where they find the stuff, but I have found very rare, out of print sealed vinyl there from the early to mid 90s, and this was sold at low prices. And their selection of CDs is very extensive, also with many rare items, but the new stuff may be more expensive than online. Some may see the space restriction as a con in this place, but the whole store is just packed with awesome stuff.
If it was made, they either have it or they can get it. Ive been coming here since i was a teenager! never left empty handed.
Ive been going to Sound Exchange for years. Its a tiny shop, but its comfy. Theres quite a selection. Have never had a problem with any records I bought that were used.
Same sentiment as most related to the albums on the floor, outside of lack of subsidies provided for knee replacements its a great store. Been my go to for the harder to find stuff for many years now, found many gems along the way, Vinyl and CD.
Pretty cool selection but kinda hard to sort through.
Great selection of cds... If dont have will order it for u.
Great prices knowledgeable staff
Its a small shop thats packed literally full of LPs, CDs, DVDs etc. Japanese album versions, singles, everything.
A great place for classic tunes and vinyl
If youre looking to build up your music collection, this is a great place to go! A great selection of Vinyl and CDs!
The store has a large collection of CDs, vinyl, DVDs, books, toys and more! Only negative thing I can say is its cluttered and hard to find things.
I hate to disparage any record store, but this one had a serious flaw. All the vinyl is on the floor, leaned against the wall under the CD displays with no dividers. It makes browsing very uncomfortable. You need to be on the floor and reaching underneath shelves to see much of it. It also had a pretty funky smell. I hope this is construed as constructive criticism. I wish the best of luck to ANY record store!
Boughtt a few good records at record store day they had some good stuff
Something for everyone there. Been shopping there 30 years
This shop made me who I am today. I used to buy random punk albums in the mid-90s when I was in junior high school. Half of them are still in my regular rotation today.
Awesome place filled to the brim with records organized alphabetically. The owner can tell you off hand if he has what youre looking for.
Still my favorite record store! Been going there for over 35 years and still the same owner.
So many oddities and different assortments of tracks
Great place to find that record or recording youre looking for.
Been going there for 35 years ! Great selection of cds & vinyl. If they dont have what youre looking for, theyll get it !
Hidden Gem!..Great service!
Great menu, great food, great service
The customer service could have been better but there is a great selection of vinly
Nice young lady helpful good selection
They have awesome stuff
Good vinyl selection. Prices are high and the owner isnt very welcoming.
Tons of vinyl and CDs, reasonably priced.
Vinyl record are on floor under shelving, making it difficult to search through. Larger space is needed for inventory.
Good store, bit overpriced. Lots of vinyl and cds, but difficult to browse.
Found some out of print cds may seem pricey but amazon will cost more with shipping
This store has got everything you are looking for and more. Looking for prog? This is the place to get it!
A true candy store for any CD you want. Anything hard to find youll find it here...
Rare rock albums and decent prices
Get your albums off the floor.
A+ selection and staff.
Awesome tunes
Lots of selections of music
