This is an amazing store. The owner was incredibly knowledgeable. The guitar instructor is amazing. The ambiance alone will have me go back. You can actually sit in a historical building on furniture that makes the whole experience even more awesome. I have never been to a store with so much charm no sales person running behind you at every step you take. Im a firm believer in small businesses. This hidden gem will be my go-to store from here out.

This is a small shop with a limited selection. The owner is knowledgeable but the prices are high. I took lessons there for about a year and a half. My instructor, Dave Mulford, was very good and I enjoyed taking lessons from him. Unfortunately, Emmet, the owner was off putting with his constant requests for payment. At most music stores, payment for the months lessons are collected at the first lesson of each month. Emmet constantly asked for payment the last week of the month preceding the month for which you are paying. He tells you that he is doing it for your convenience. I always refused and his body and facial language made me very uncomfortable. He doesnt keep track of when you actually take lessons so it is up to you to be sure that you actually get all of the lessons that you pay for on a monthly basis. After more than a year of this, I finally spoke to him and told him that I always pay my bills on time but that I didnt appreciate him asking for payment the month before. He told me that I was the only one who didnt pay as he requested. Remember that when you pay the day of your first lesson of the month that you are paying between two and four weeks before the service is rendered. He agreed that I would pay with the first lesson each month for which payment is due. Despite our agreement, he continued to request payment early and make inappropriate comments and faces every month. After several more months I told him again that I didnt appreciate his approach. After my lesson that day, he told me that I should find someplace else to take lessons. This out of a business owner whose cash flow is so bad that he needs payment early every month. I no longer take lessons at Old Friends Vintage Guitars and have discovered that he misrepresented what he said to my instructor. This mans integrity is definitely questionable.

I took my amp to them in March. It took 3 weeks to get it back and I had to call them to find out it was done. Took it home, plugged it in and literally played one note and the amp popped and stopped working. Took it back the next day, again after having for almost a month I called and the store owner says oh it’s almost finished and the tech will call you right back. A week later, I called and it was ready to be picked up. Took it home, plugged it in, same thing only this time it started smoking. Took it back, they had it for a month with no communication. I went to the shop and now it’s a litany of excuses about the company not having any way to support the amp, couldn’t get parts, etc, etc. All of this may have been true, but if he couldn’t fix it, he shouldn’t have touched it to begin with. Long story short, after almost 4 months, this shop won’t communicate and made my situation worse than when I started. They may be great at lessons, but the shop is overpriced and the customer service sucks. If you need a repair, I would go somewhere else.

Outstanding shop and a real jewel for the area. The owner and staff are long time pickers, with loads of experience both just as players and on the professional circuit. Great selection of moderately priced instruments with top quality tone and a wall full of vintage instruments to suit the collector and accomplished player. The instructional staff really works with students and after almost every lesson give the student and appraisal. For the younger crowd just starting out Mom or Dad will hear from the instructors just how things are moving along. Youll be missing a sure bet if you dont come in to talk.

Great atmosphere. The payment/book keeping for lessons is a little odd. I had to show a receipt from months ago to prove I had already paid for my son. Although that wont keep me away, I would advise new customers to keep track of your payments to them.

Very small selection of guitars even though they have a billboard out on the highway. Apparently they have jam sessions and the owner was very nice. I was only passing through the area. A quaint little store and nice atmosphere if you have time to chat. Not really a place to purchase guitars though.

I had driven by this shop a million times since they first opened. They were just somewhat of a jam room back then with a few guitars and no service shop. Well let me tell you, they are a complete retail shop now with full set up/repair service and they do a fantastic job! I dropped off my neglected Ibanez Artcore that was covered in dust and had never been properly set up from the day I bought it 10 years ago. I picked it up 4 days later and it looked and played like a brand new guitar. They took out the buzzing I had in the strings, reset and oiled the neck, polished up the body and hardware to a mirror finish, and they even repaired a broken volume pot that was crackling on me. I absolutely love this guitar now. I had no idea it could play so well. I was so impressed that I dropped off another guitar the same day I picked this one up. Sales and staff are super friendly and very helpful. So glad I went here instead of other big name stores that charge almost double for I what i wanted. Their guitar tech does amazing work!! Would def recommend!

When I walked into the store, I was looking for bass strings. The interior was very nice, and had a smooth atmosphere, but that all soon faded into the background as I saw the prices, and received very poor service. The first thing I did was check out a guitar that I was interested in possibly buying. When I asked the only employee there if I could test it out, he gave me a weary look, and begrudgingly got the guitar down for me, and hooked it up. He made it very obvious that he was uncomfortable with me playing it through his body language alone. When I started to pick the guitar, I looked up and noticed he was still standing there! An awkward moment ensued where I didnt play for a few seconds giving him a look that was implying that I would like some privacy and space. He just continued to stand there for the full 5 minutes that I played the instrument. When I asked him about his cheapest bass strings, the cheapest kind they had was Ernie Ball regular bass strings, and they were $60 dollars!!!!! I ended up passing on them, and buying a Snark electric tuner for $40 dollars (I later found out that regular retail for it goes for about $25).Im never going back there again. The prices were just unrealistic. I know that mom and pop stores arent guitar center, but their pricing decisions are acting like places like guitar center dont even exist, and that its either them or no one (thankfully, thats not the case.) Whenever I go into a music shop, I appreciate an inviting and musician friendly atmosphere. To open up a music shop, and expect that people shouldnt play your instruments without buying them is absolutely insane.Yes, I understand that many people act like they are going to buy something just to play it, but thats one of the sacrifices you make when opening a music shop. To try and Nerf this, and control this dilemma in anyway will just be anti-consumer and will scare off your customers. Combine that with the ridiculously high prices, and youll begin to see why you should take your business elsewhere

Dropped my Gibson SG off for a restring and a setup and it came back in brand new condition. My guitar is a 1989 so when I got it a few years back it was in rough shape. I had it setup before and even cleaned it up myself for what I knew how to do. When I gave it to these guys they did a great setup. You cant even tell its been used. They even cleaned the rusty hardware that was on it and then adjusted the neck and set the intonation perfectly. I know how to do a basic guitar setup but sometimes I like to drop it off at a shop to get properly done because I dont always have the time. These guys have a great guitar tech!

We had work done on my sons saxophone and on top of waiting 4 weeks longer than it was promised when we got the saxophone back it was not repaired and serviced as described by the service man. We had to take it to another shop and it cost us another $220. Old friends guitars refused to reimburse our original cost.

I waited like 5 mins for someone, so I started to look around blahblahblah, idk how long the dude was standing there just staring at me on the phone, so I walked over there to talk to him, I was trying to talk to him, but he was still on the phone acted like I was wasting his time.

I have a 1984 Electra Westone Guiltar. Some how I lost a saddle on the Floyd Rose Bridge. This model bridge is not been around in decades. Ive been to Guitar Center, Pro Guitar Shop, and Wentzville Music. No one could find or really wanted to even try to find a saddle for me. After having my guitar for two week Old Friends came through. The found broken sodders and cleaned off the rust that built up the the lock nuts and polished it up nice too. Thank You Old Friends
