These cupcakes are fire!!!! If I wouldnt gain weight I would eat at least three of these a day! Thats how amazing they taste. I got these for my sons birthday and he was extremely pleased with the different choices. The staff was extremely welcoming and their customer service was outstanding! Maybe Ill make them my once a month treat....

I wanted to come in early morning of my boyfriend’s birthday to get some cupcakes for him and his family and leave for the hour and a half drive to his house from there. I got there at 9:35 and two of the employees had just showed out of uniform. I asked why they werent open and was just told they would be opening at 11. Disappointed as I adore scratch cupcakes.

Ordered my wife a Chocolate covered Almond cake for her birthday. The best cake I have ever had from a business. A must!!

I placed an order over the phone. The next day I was scheduled to pick up. When I arrived the doors were locked, and there was a sign that said they had gone home due to the weather. Obviously I want them to send people home if they think theres a safety issue, but they could have called...Instead, I had to drive around frantically 30 minutes before my kids birthday party to handle the dessert.

Nice tucked away cupcake boutique thats a special treat kinda go-to. Lots of revolving flavors, simple contact-free checkout. I dont just hand out 5 stars for cupcakes. Theyre generally messy, so consider this basically 6 stars.

Always wonderful. We had their red velvet as our wedding cupcakes. I even asked for them to use a specific wrapper and they were WONDERFUL. They are our go-to for every birthday and every special occasion.

Cupcakes are unique and well crafted. A lot of options including shakes. We finally tried the shakes the other day and they were made by a couple of newbs. And the shakes reflected such.

We came for a quick snack. Im sure the cupcakes and cookies are delicious. The coffee machine wasnt working. It still was a good visit.

2 Things:- Scratch Cupcakery is amazing.- Anyone who tells you differently is a LIAR.Ive been to many gourmet cupcake shops and have yet to find a better value. Cupcakes from some other places may taste *slightly* better, but they cost $4 each. Scratch sells large cupcakes for $2 a piece (lowest price I have EVER seen for gourmet cupcakes). They have a wide variety and are delicious. The buttercream on top is amazing.Special note: I saw a review from a Local Guide that said this business wouldnt be open for long. Dont believe it. They originally opened in Cedar Falls and have been growing like crazy ever since. Truly a small business that has found success (Cedar Falls, Waterloo, West Des Moines, Coralville, and a mobile cupcake truck).

Cupcake ppearance is delightful. However received 40 cupcakes through fundraiser and mishandling lead to cupcake failure. Taste and texture not impressive. Sugar granules in frosting is prominent. Overly sweet and flavor balance is off.

Cupcakes here are super yummy! So many different flavors. My new favorite treat is the cookie dough though! I usually go for the monster flavor (peanut butter, oatmeal, chocolate candies...), but I tried butterbeer cookie dough yesterday and I think it’s my new favorite! Please, please keep making this flavor!!!

We were in town so we stopped by to see if we wanted something sweet after dinner. The cupcakes looked Amazing. I expected real buttercream frosting but what we got tasted very sweet. There wasn’t much cream flavor. The cookie dough ice cream is good.

Best cupcakes ever! I’ve always been picky about cake, but not when I go to scratch. Their cakes are always moist, creamy, and flavorful. Not to mention they also have cookies and cannolis! Absolutely the BEST tasting cupcakes. Wide VARIETY makes it hard too choose. My very favorite is the Creme Brulee Cupcake. Elegantly presented to serve for any occasion. My sis n law grabbed a dozen for work - all different flavors with a nice cardboard carrier to keep them separated and looking good for travel. At $2.00 each, worth every penny.

Called in short notice for an order of four cupcakes for the birthday of a family member that had flown in on his birthday for the funeral of this 23 year old daughter. When I came in right at closing time all the employees were extremely sincere and helpful. They had given me my order and happily let me know that it was all on them. Cupcakes tasted amazing🤤❤ (my favorite peanut butter pie). If you go to their cupcake tasting you recieve a discount towards your wedding purchase. Raquel helped us and found us exactly what we wanted. Unfortunately when I got my cupcakes some of them were missing flower designs that tied them into my theme. Raquel addressed it very quickly and made things right.

Buttercream makes these cupcakes absolutely wonderful. The employees who work here truly care about how the product turns out. If youre in the area you must stop by and grab not one but two cupcakes!

Ordered some cupcakes from a fundraiser and very disappointed. Cupcakes are dried and crumbly. Very expensive. You cant even take a bite without having the cupcake all over the place. Wont ever consider buying again.

Went here for a wedding cake tasting and the director was so nice and answered so many questions. We are getting married out of town so we had a million questions and her patience and kindness never faltered! So excited to get our cupcakes for our wedding from here!

Stopped in a few days ago to get cupcakes for a work event. I was pleased with the selection and the friendliness of the staff.Most people loved the cupcakes, some flavors were definitely better then others.Will get again, but will also look for other places in the area.

Scratch seems to have lost its focus. The last time I went, the menu had expanded to include cookie dough and frozen lemonade and other periphery. If Scratch wants to evolve into a desert cafe, fine, but I love the bare bones of just cupcakes that are done well that constituted Scratchs beginnings. I ordered a frozen lemonade and it was too sweet, gritty, and I had to search to taste lemon. The staff seemed confused and lost and frankly overwhelmed. I havent given up on Scratch, but it will be a while before I return again

I really like this place but.....I have been in there 3 times in 9 days and was only able to get the plain cookie dough once. First time they were sold out. The next time I got the last in the pan and this time didnt have the plain at all. It is a 22mi trip for me...Disappointing. They make very good edible cookie batter. They have a plain which you can dress up or not according to your own taste. Then they have other flavors also. It seems like plain would be your basic along with other flavors.

We arrived and there were very few flavors to choose from which was somewhat expected as it was just after 6 pm and we asked if those were the only flavors left and they told us yes. So we order cupcakes from the not great options that are left. The “Hot Fudge Sundae” cupcake with “fudge cake” had no chocolate or fudge flavor. It was dry and the frosting was slightly crusty from being out all day. There were nuts in the frosting which it did not advertise that it contained nuts. Was not impressed with the cupcake. As we finish eating our cupcakes they bring out FOUR more flavors that weren’t an option and “what they had out is what they had left” which did not impress us. Disappointed in the cupcake and the staff telling us there was no additional flavors then bringing out more while we are in the store.

Their Just Dough is a great treat, though avoid eating it in large amounts unless you want to go into a sugar coma. Their cupcakes are consistently fantastic and my wife has me pick them up every year for her co-workers on her birthday, and Im lucky if I get anything when they are done.

Amazing cupcake selection and don’t even get me started on the cookie dough—scooped like ice cream and so buttery and delish. Awesome staff even gave our kids a free cupcake because I misspoke when I was paying. Stop in for a sweet fix you won’t regret!

Some of their cupcakes are really good. It makes for a great low cost present or surprise to brighten someones day. A relative of mine used to work here. They really could care less if something was labeled vegan, if they didnt have a vegan margarine to use they still made it and said it was vegan. So if you are vegan or need something dairy free I wouldnt stop here.

Best cupcakes! Coffee is not the greatest, not very many cold drink choices (i was hoping for milk). Limited seating, we had a group of 4 adults and 2 kids(5 year old and infant) and the 5 year old had to sit in one of those little high chairs to be at the table. People dont normally stay very long, but if you want to meet up here for a cupcake or two with a friend (or five), to hang out and catch up, keep that in mind.

Was very excited to go to the West Des Moines location and get one of the gluten and dairy free cupcakes they carry. It was plain and flavorless. It was dry and the frosting was very crusty as if it had been sitting out for a long time. I went up and asked how old it was and was flippantly told, Oh, I have no idea. I told them they should think about putting dates on them and they said the place they ordered from doesnt tell them when theyre made they just ship them. I said, You cant just ask them to put a date on it? And she said, with plenty of attitude, Well, we never have. Weve been doing it for 2 years. Threw away half the cupcake, wont be back.

My favorite cupcake anywhere in Des Moines. Love they have the calendar so you can always see ahead which day they will have your favorite cupcake. Plus there is a reward system for guests.

Had a chocolate peanut butter cup cupcake today. It was good but just good. The cake part was quite good, moist and great taste but the icing tasted clearly of shortening to me and Im not a fan of that taste.

This review is purely on the customer service and not the cupcakes. The cupcakes were delicious as always. We were in there towards the end of the night. There were like 4 options of cupcakes - which I get, it was towards the end of the day. I asked if they had any more (one in our group was looking for a peanut butter one). The lady said no. Then a big group came in right after us and what did they do......pulled out at least a handful of other flavors of cupcakes. Nice lady......you LIED straight to my face......and I’m still in the store!!!! Disappointed in the lack of character by your staff!

Their cupcakes are delicious- when you get it right. I just bought some cupcakes there yesterday morning, the first one had many small clumps of flour in the chocolate cake, and another cupcake was missing the filling that they had advertised. So frustrating!

Make sure to pick up the list that shows which flavors change based on day of the week, month, etc. I remember getting a vodka redbull cupcake here back in 2013. Love, love, LOVE this place. Ive honestly tried just about every bakery in the Des Moines area and Scratch definitely takes the cake (ha!). They have a vast variety of cupcakes on a daily, weekly, and montly rotation. You can also special order any of their creations if you buy the minimum quantities.If you want a truly amazing dessert experience, order two dozen of the mini cupcakes in all of the different flavors! Some of my favorites are the strawberry shortcake, and the no-bake oatmeal cookie.

Early bird gets the worm here. If you get here in the last few hours, not as many flavors/types to pick from. However, that really isnt a negative because that is how the baking business model works. I was next to a lady that was being rude to an employee about the choices she had left (about 30 minutes to close) and the employee was so patient to explain that cant anticipate 100% of orders from a day to day basis.
