I sold some jewelry and coins to Atlantis Antiques recently. Although antique shops are not regulated, antique shops, pawn shops and police depts collaborated to be licensed and must record daily transactions to the police dept to help stop theft. Their license must be clearly posted near the register. Many larger antique shops in the area are group shops. Each person in that location must have their own individual license to buy precious metals. Licenses are not issued to the business name or the physical location according to statute. Precious metals have a holding period to better help someone find their belongings in the event of theft. These dealers must obtain identification and give the seller (you) an itemized detailed list of what you are selling. Many other states have enacted these laws also. His knowledge and experience is outstanding. He knew the value of what I had and offered me more for my jewelry and coins than anywhere else.
Dealing with Guy Ferraro was wonderful. I sold some gold jewelry, and some costume jewelry to him. He was very professional and explained in detail why he was pricing each item for the amount that he was. I have items such as early dishes, plates, and glasses that I wanted to sell as well. He said he couldn’t buy them from me but suggested I put them on social media to sell and he spent time with me pricing the items. He went way above and beyond what I expected and I can’t thank him enough for all his time. I highly recommend dealing with Guy if you are selling jewelry.
I had a great experience at Atlantis International. The owner was so nice and looked through several boxes of Antique earrings to try and find the perfect Antique earrings for my daughters wedding.
Please be incredibly wary of this business and its owner Guy Ferraro. Please dont make the same mistake that I did and trust this man. The story is long and still upsets me to this day, but to make a long story short, I ended up having to call and involve the police in order to get my money and items back that he had taken from me and my family, which he refused to return. He tried blackmailing me for more money, to which I agreed at first, but once i gave him the additional money, he still refused to return all of the items and it was at that point that I had no choice but to involve the police. Even then, after the police had forced him to return most of the items, there were still a few that he refused to return and his excuse was that he couldnt find them (he didnt even have them for 24 hours). He also took some coins from my familys coin collection that he said were not worth anything, but proceeded to pocket them while I walked into another room to get something to show him. I didnt realize they were gone until he had already left. His excuse for those was that he had already mixed those coins in with his collection and it was impossible for him to know which coin belonged to who. He knew that I would have to take him to court if I wanted the rest of the items and he knew that I didnt have the time for that (he didnt think I had the money either, but I did).I should have read some of the other online reviews, before I ever did business with him. I should have gotten second opinions beforehand as well, but that was my first time ever doing business with an antiques dealer and I was admittedly naïve. Knowing what I know of him now, I expect him to respond to this (if he can) and turn the entire story around to make it seem like hes the victim, which is what hes done with every negative review there is about him and his business. Please, dont make the same mistake I did. I would avoid this man and this business at all costs. He has already threatened me for trying to tell people my story. Little does he know that we still have freedom of speech in this country. Also, please be wary of fake reviews. If they sound like an advertisement and not like a real person speaking about their experience, then you can most likely trust your instincts.
The owner is incredibly knowledgeable and goes above and beyond to be helpful - he offered me advice about how to sell two antiques myself since he said that would be a better way to get value than selling to him. I would highly recommend working with Atlantis International!
Guy provided me with excellent information and knowledge regarding some collectible glasses that I have - he was honest, and extremely helpful. I appreciate working with someone like him, and I wouldnt hesitate to call him again in the future. I will highly recommend his services to my friends, family, and coworkers.
I called and spoke with Guy about a beanie baby collection who was beyond helpful and genuinely a sweet knowledgeable man. Thank you for all the help Guy!
The owner, Guy was so helpful and informative. He has a wonderful selection! Highly recommend
I just called and spoke with owner and couldnt have dealt with a more honest or kind man. He walked me through a process that is unfamiliar to me and offered for me to call back and follow up with questions. Amazing service and honesty!
I called regarding a personal collection of items, the gentleman who answered the phone was very helpful in telling me where and how to start selling. I would definitely return here with any questions I have.
Guy was extremely informative and helpful. I definitely recommend working him.
I called to ask about getting my Beanie Baby collection appraised. The man who took my call was so kind, helpful and honest. He told me exactly what to do even though it wouldn’t make him any money. I thought that was amazing. A business owner who would rather help a potential costumer in an honest way rather than make a quick buck. I would definitely bring my business to Atlantis International any day!
I was very impressed with the depth of the owners knowledge. He knew where in the world my piece of jewelry had been made, gave me some interesting background on the type of artisans who made it, and took great pains to analyze and appraise every part of the piece. A friendly man who took pains to do a thorough appraisal without expecting anything in return. Invited me to come back at any time, which I definitely will if I have another piece that needs appraising.
Mr. Guy Ferraro runs a very professional, reliable business, and my father and I were seriously pleased when we made our appointment and met with him in his store. In fact, the entire way I collect has changed much for the better--with more care and scrupulous attention to value--because of his intelligent guidance and time-tested knowledge of foreign and domestic items. For one, he wants to take good care of you when you do business with him--he helps you in an honest, sincere, and practical way, and you will know how well you have been served after meeting with him in your appointment. For your benefit, you must make an appointment to see him, and that is clearly advertised. You will see that this aspect is particularly excellent about his business: you will receive the attention you need, and that he is thoroughly aware you will need for the sake of quality business and communication. I stress, when you deal with Atlantis Antiques International, you will work with a responsible gentleman who has uncommonly rich experience abroad and here. After your one-on-one experience with him, you will leave his store a better informed person. He will help you seriously and individually, and I would not waste time on anyone else. You should make an appointment, and you will learn for yourself. Mr. Ferraro is indeed a special professional, and his business is outstanding. I have made my appointment for an upcoming visit, and I will travel from out of the state (nearly 300 miles) to see my parents and visit Atlantis Antiques. This shows a genuine mark he has made on me with his expertise. In your dealings with him, you will learn what it means to work with a quality individual and business.
I called Guy to ask for some information about a marionette puppet I found while cleaning my stepmoms house that passed away, He helped me right then and there, asking for pictures and information about the puppet, and after I relayed all the requested info, he told me what I had and how much it was probably worth, . Although he wasnt inter in buying it himself, he directed me where to post it and what to list it as. I am beyond satisfied with his help he gave me and highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for something similar
He was extremely helpful with information, friendly, and took time to explain to me how to go about.Seems to be a honest man which are hard to come by in the business of buying and selling nowday
It was finally time to part with all the stuff we have been saying we were going to go through. It was a relief having someone in the comfort of our home explaining what the value of things are & the worth while appreciating our attachment to them. Guy was knowledgeable, respectful & simply a pleasure!! So happy that he is here in West Haven!!! Looking forward to doing more business with him!
As I was driving by I noticed the bright neon OPEN sign and saw a man hanging a OPEN flag outside the door. Walk up to the door, and it is locked. So I call the number that is on the window to only be told no you can’t come browse. Why put OPEN signs up if you’re not even going to allow people in?
I spoke to Guy and he was very honest and informative. I have had books for a while and didn’t know what to do and he made it so easy for me to understand and do some research.
Was out looking for antiques and saw this shop with a neon open sign. The front door was locked and had a sign saying ring bell. Rang the bell and was greeted by a rude man who told us we could not come in without an appointment. What! Why did you advertise you are open? Looking in through the window all we could see was what can only be described as a hoarders mess. Dont waste your time with this place. There are plenty of other places with friendly clean stores who actually want to have customers come in.
I have to say that the owner was amazing. He provided Great Customer Service with his friendly personality and his Extensive Knowledge. I felt he was very honest and trustworthy which all too often is hard to come by in this business. When it comes to antiques he knows his stuff. I will be back and would highly recommend him to anyone!!!
Wonderful experience at Atlantis Antiques International. Guy was able to appraise an antique helmet I came across, offering information on the time period and value of the piece. He is very knowledgeable. I will definitely visit again. Thanks Guy!
Luis Cruz out of Springfield ma, call just a few mins ago and spoke to a man didn’t get his name but he was super helpful and most of all honest. 10/10 would use them again
I stopped by to show Guy some photos of an old table that I had acquired on Craigslist - he was very knowledgeable and helpful, was able to give me a good idea of the tables age and history, and even offered some theories about the person who made the table, based on the style of joints and the materials used. He didnt charge anything for this, which was very nice - I had already told him I was willing to pay him for his time. A good experience all around.
I feel Guy Ferraro was thorough and careful in providing an appraisal of several items. He has considerable knowledge and took the time to help me understand the rationale of his appraisals. Plus, and this is very important, I feel he is most trustworthy.
I wish there was a ZERO stars rating. This man is beyond rude and pretentious and his workers look more like methadone patients. His shop, if you can call it that, looked like an episode of HOARDERS and he refused us entry until we showed him something of interest. He offered zero history or information on any item that was brought in and lowball offered us on an item that was appraised at quadruple his offer. Youve definitely lost some business on this end sir. TAKE YOUR ANTIQUES, COINS ETC AND MONEY ELSEWHERE FOLKS . 0/0 STARS
Kind and helpful, the gentleman that was assisting me date an antique piece seemed knowledgeable and informative. I would recommend Atlantis International.
Guy is a 5 star kind of guy! He knows his stuff. I called to inquire about a piece that I purchased from another state. He was infinitely knowledgeable on the piece and took time to really answer all of my questions. Thanks for your time and help.
Guy is very honest and helpful. He does not mess around when it comes to antiques or your time. Thanks, Fabio
What a wealth of information and a pleasure to work with. I will never sell anything again without starting here first. Honest, fair and wont waste your time.
Mr. Ferarro is extremely professional and helpful. Has a lot of great information and items. Worth it to check out if you are an art enthusiast.
I was visiting from out of state and noticed Atlantis Antiques, with multiple lit up OPEN signs and flags in the early afternoon. When I got to the door, it was locked, and there was a sign directing me to ring the bell. The attendant came to the door and opened it just a crack, asking me what I wanted, and informing me that they do not allow browsers, then rudely slammed the door shut and locked it back up.Thats one hell of a business model there.Later in the day while in Fairfield, I happened upon another antique shop in a warehouse building off I 95 and dropped over $800 while browsing for what I was looking for.
An amazing place!! A real live treasure chest, plan on spending some quality time there. Call first if you have something specific in mind and make an appointment. Guy is the real deal, worth making a trip to CT just for his store.
It was a pleasure doing business with Guy. He took his time, explained everything and taught me a few things during our transaction. Its complicated getting rid of family heirlooms and Guy is sensitive to that. I would definitely recommend his business and will return myself!
I renovated an old house in Connecticut, and wanted some special pieces of furniture to make our brand new kitchen and family room distinctive. I had heard about Guy Ferraro from several friends and colleagues, and his unique ability to hand pick the right pieces of furniture for virtually any setting. I have very discriminating tastes so I was a bit skeptical, but I have to say my expectations were beyond exceeded. We bought many beautiful pieces from Guy, including an 19th century tool chest that now holds our daughter’s toys, and a vintage metal kitchen table that Guy painstakingly restored.Everything we’ve purchased has been the highest quality, but I have to say the chestnut work table (a replica of a 17th Spanish work table) is one of the most beautiful pieces of furniture I’ve ever seen. It is not only a work of art, but it is practical as it holds at least 30 pots and pans from aged brass hooks Guy attached to the bottom of the table. It is a truly one of a kind piece. In the past, I have been unwittingly ripped off by other antique dealers, and in fact Guy helped me get my money back when I bought a coffee table that was actually a brand new metal table, and not made from an old gate in France as I was told.Guy is always honest, fair and cares deeply about his customers. He runs a 5 star business, and he is the only antiques dealer I trust. He gets my highest recommendation.
I have had the pleasure to work with Guy Ferraro and Atlantis Antiques for nearly 40 years. Guy was early on the scene importing Asian and European art and furnishings. He knew what to buy, what would sell, and understood how to produce items of quality that would endure. Whether crafted in silver, marble, or rosewood, made in Italy or Indonesia, I still own every beautiful ceramic object, work of art, and piece of furniture that Guy has ever found for me.Most importantly, I trust Guy. I have introduced him to many friends and family members, who have purchased a majority of their home furnishings from Atlantis Antiques (Guy even patiently helped my daughter find perfect items with her specific yet vague requirements). My husbands parents inherited rugs and Asian art that needed appraising; a local notable rug dealer offered a lowball estimate with an offer to take the items off their hands, while Guy exhibited detailed knowledge of the rug and artifacts, which were worth more than what the rug dealer had claimed.Guy has valued coins, jewelry, furs, and paintings (just to name a few categories) for clients. He not only knew the value of each item, but also their provenance and proper methods of care and maintenance.I have learned from and respected Guy for decades, and value his experience, knowledge, and integrity. My home and the homes of many loved ones are the better for it.
I have a dresser (I emailed pictures) that I needed information on and Guy at Atlantis Antiques LLC, spoke to me on the phone explained the piece with great knowledge and gave me advice on how to care for it. Also, Guy told me I could ask a few hundred dollars more than I had it listed for.I would recommend this Atlantis Antiques LLC, to anyone!Thank you again Guy!!!!!
I called looking for information on a collection. Guy was very professional, very helpful and honest on what I should do with the collection and I will be going back in the future.
Went on Line to look for antiques in west haven, where we found this store. The ad says open 10-5 Sundays by appointment. We got there big signs saying open. Tried the door and it was locked. Rang the bell and a very, very, rude man opened the door and informed us that we were not welcome to come in and look. Well if his on line ad didnt show their stock how can anyone buy. This place doesnt even rate a fraction of a star. 36 years HOW! It really Sucked!!
Guy Ferraro was EXTEREMLY helpful and took the time to explain what to look for to determine whether an article was really an antique or a replica. He also provided additional information about where we could learn more about military antiques, which was our primary interest.Very knowledgable and very willing to share his expertise and love of antiques.
I found Atlantis Antiques to be a great experience. The amount of quality pieces and home like atmosphere was just the beginning.Guy Ferraro took a look at a ring I was willing to sell.He took the time to educate me on the ring and explained that I would do better If I traded it in or sold it on my own.Honesty and class.......I will go back
Guy was so helpful even with guiding me to sell a piece elsewhere other than his shop! Thanks Guy !!
Atlantis Antiques was great! Mr. Ferraro gave me a quick, honest appraisal & great advice on how to get the most for my antique!
We had our Italian blackamore statues restored at Atlantis Antiques. The end result was flawless. Guy is a master at what he does. He is very knowledgeable in antiques and history. He was very thorough in explaining to us the process he would take to restore our Italian blackamore statues. We spent several hours in his shop walking through the aisles as Guy educated us on the history of every item that caught our eye, it was like traveling the world. Guy is a true talent and the shop speaks for itself. We have been back to Altantis Antiques several times since and will continue to do business with Guy. If you are looking for rear finds, quality items, coins, restoration etc. etc. etc. Altantis Antiques is place. Thanks Guy for the wonderful experience.Sam & Craig
Guy is a gem! Knowledgable, helpful and goes overboard to help in any way he can.
So knowledgeable and trustworthy!
I just called to inquire about a set of china i was handed down....the man was mean and rude and cut me off and hung up on me........take your money elsewhere in the valley for antiques
