Poor Quality - Extremely Rude - Not Safe.... I usually dont even leave a review for places if theyre below a 5 star but the owner/manager or this place went over and above to deserve this poor rating. You will see the photos of the sandwich I ordered which was suppose to be the Italian Grinder. You can see how pathetic the quality and amount of meat on this sandwich is for $10.75. Id get more of the same packaged deli meat at Subway as I did here. It was also missing onions, oil/vinegar and seasoning. So I went up to ask for onions and oil/vinegar. He asked me if I everything else was OK and i said, actually its a bit on the skimpy side for the price but it is what it is. Not only did he approach the window without a mask, but he attempted to abruptly take the food away from my hands with no gloves to add the onions and seasoning - I said, you can just give them to me on the side. So he came out of the restaurant (with no mask nor gloves) and comes over to our table, slammed the container of onions on the table and said Next time if you want onions, you need to ask. - I said, its on the menu that this comes with onions. Then he actually walked over to the window where the menu was, looked at it for a second, came back and says to me: You should get your eyes checked, that menu does not say there is onions on the sandwich. Well folks - you can see the menu for yourselves, right? :) He went over and above to be rude, condescending and just mean. To that man, Im sorry for whatever youre going through to be that nasty to your customers. Your customer who is an established local - not a seasonal tourist. We talk to locals. We return to good establishments. This will get the talk, but not the return.
Service was extremely slow and the food very expensive for what we received. Few seating areas available as of right now. I typically dont like to leave negative reviews but this was not a great experience
A delicious sundae 🍨recommendation is coffee ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream and malt. Its great with vanilla ice cream too. A small sundae is a lot of fun and never seems to take more time at all to prepare. An order-at-the-window must stop ice cream place.
Delicious, homemade ice cream. Be prepared for a long line if you go after dinner. Staff did a great job serving people quickly so the wait was not too long.
Kids and I got shakes. They were terrible, very watery. And at $7 each I was expecting a creamy delicious shake with plenty of ice cream. Very disappointing.
Great ice cream. Limited hours make it hard for customers to give them money
Be aware....no service inside. Curb service for meals and ice cream. Take out/pickup served in a to go package. Eat outside at tables as they become available. Food still decent and ice cream delicious!
Sat at table w ice cream. Person came out to yell us to vacate because we had bag from another store on table. We said we had ice cream from him. He stated he did not care. No other store items at his table. We will not frequent this establishment ever again. He ruined an otherwise fun day.
Decent ice cream on par with very good ice cream had elsewhere. Price isnt cheap, but you didnt come to the beach for cheap. Always busy. Rebuilt store after 1973 fire is solid and appears to be up to code. Many unusual flavors to choose from. Toppings include gummy bears, Oreos, and sprinkles. Root beer floats are available along with strawberry lemonade or frozen lemonade.
Solid selection of sandwiches and ice cream; no frills but quick service and delicious food. Great place for a quick bite, lunch, or anytime for ice cream.
Supposed to close at 8 but the grill closed at 7! I just want some food!
Fine enough Ice cream, but terrible over priced food. Sift or Cooked Goose is a thousand times better.
Great food and prices. Updated and nice atmosphere
Could not get simple order of two cups of ice cream right. The hair in the ice cream topped of the visit.
Didnt have the IC I wanted. And a little pricey
Literally was handed a bag with my BLT and Burger like i was at the lunch cafe in middle school. Also it was way to expensive. Sadly one of those places that does okay because its the only place...
We love visiting the local beach when we are in RI. And the trip isn’t complete without a stop at St. Clair Annex. My one complaint is that they only accept cash. I don’t get it. They would make so many more sales if they accepted Credit Card. We are always counting our dollars and limiting what we order. (Even though there is an ATM in the restaurant). By the time you get to the front of the line, you want to order more, but it’s too late because you would have to hop out of line and go to the ATM if you decide to add to your order. With COVID you can’t dine in, but I think that is okay. It usually packed and loud. So ordering from the window and then taking it to go was not an inconvenience. I would plan on $15 for a meal. (Sandwich and fries) You’ll definitely want ice cream, since they have such interesting flavors. So if that’s the case, have $20+Also, they have kids size cones. You won’t see it on the menu, but just ask. A little bit smaller than the single scoop, but still plenty of ice cream.
Great ice cream and great service.
Best Ice Cream ever.
Everything absolutely perfect friendly staff, delicious food, happy faces and they were crowded and still had a quick wait time. I recommend the clam chowder New England
Fantastic Ice Cream
Nice location but be aware CASH ONLY. They do have an ATM inside though. Sadly, the food is marginal at best. I probably had the worst lobster roll in my life here and the fries seemed to be something I would grab in the frozen aisle of Stop and Shop. On a positive note, the fresh made lemonade was delicious!
The food was hot and tasty. Fries were crispy! Italian grinder was large. Cash only establishment but there is an atm inside. Small drink is a small cup so order something bigger if you drink a lot.
Best Ice Cream in the area. Long lines sometimes but they go fast. I think they make the ice cream themselves because some of the flavors are so unique - so New England like whoa. Great food too - highly recommend to anyone - great for kids and families
Ive been going to the Annex for most of my 65+ years. Its fantastic. The best RI calm chowder on the planet and ice cream to die for are just the first two reasons to go. James, George, Joanna and the crew are wonderful as is their staff. It can get crazy in peak season but the foods always great, prepared to order and fresh. I defy anyone to find a better lobster salad roll anywhere. Always sorry when I go for my last one on Columbus Day weekend. ALWAYS happy when they reopen in the spring. Treat yourself. Its grand!!!
Pretty pricy
Good ice cream. Rude person behind the counter. I go to pay. Were cash only. Then walks away. Didnt show me an ATM (which we didnt need, had cash in car). Also was rude when leaving. Thank you.........no response......must be related to the owners to have such bad customer service/interactions.
Would give a zero star rating if I could. Cash only sign should be posted outside in bold letters so it doesnt blend in with the ice cream menu. Very rude owner particularly for a customer driven business. Would never go back there.
Stopped in here for something to eat. Nice location with few outdoor tables. New England Clam Chowder was bland and I couldn’t find much in the way of clams in it. Got our chowder right away but waited 15 minutes for a BLT. Folks next to us waited about the same and their order was wrong when it was done. Not sure why so slow as it wasn’t busy and there were half a dozen people working. It’s also expensive as you’d expect right on the beach, we paid nearly 30 bucks for 2 bowls of sub par chowder, a BLT, 1 coffee and 1 beer.
This little grill / ice cream parlor is a jewel! As weve traveled around New England weve sampled plenty of New England Clam Chowder, my wife and I agreed that St. Clair Annex has the best. Our kids rode the Carousel and worked up an appetite, we came over here for dinner. Its a must try!
Always great....to call any employee racist working here is unreal. I have been going to Watch Hill since 1962 and never witnessed anything like that. The owners are on top of their game and would never allow that type of behavior.
Cash-only business. No sign posted on line or window. ATM right next to window that rips you with a fee.
Best lemonade Ive ever had!
Stalwart of Watch Hill. Been in the same family for perhaps seven generations. Great food and reasonably priced.
Lobster Roll was amazing. And if you like Greek salad with chicken, this place has the BEST looking and BEST tasting version! Must try!
I love the food here but recently the breakfast service has gotten crazy long. The wait was ridiculous. However I still do enjoy the food very much
Good place to eat, but if youre looking for something sweet, Id say go around the corner to the Gelato Cafe and eat like a local.Still, this place is worth a visit, and so convenient.
The mint chocolate chip was okay. Not my favorite.
Former NE boy up from Alabama to visit some old stomping grounds. Someone said to try the clam chowder saying Its the best around. Being a chowder snob and not having had a cup of chowda in years, I wanted a cup that I could savor. OK, this chowder is absolutely World Class. As we say in the south, Itll make your tongue slap your brain.. Seriously, if ever in the area do not miss this chowder. Got to meet the lovely woman that made it and wanted to hug her....
Located in a convenient place, the prices are bit expensive in relation with the quality. Still basic hamburger and soda is at good price, if you take other food options then the price increase a lot. Hamburger is 6USD and a salad 9USD. Great place to continue the mood of the beach.
Expensive af 3.50 for a tiny ice cream and not that good tasting. Also a worker behind the counter was quite racist and made me really uncomfortable. I will never return to this terrible a business. In addition the employee serving me had a very hostile attitude towards me in regards to my allergies.
Awesome ice cream and awesome food! Grilled cheese is soooo good
Very good Ice cream, but not cheep.
Great place to go for breakfast or ice-cream in the evening.
Classic homemade ice cream. THE local spot
The Coffee Oreo ice cream is phenomenal.
The new England clam chowder was so disappointing. It tasted of onion and nothing else. What was worse was the racism from the woman behind the counter. She made my husband and I feel very uncomfortable. I will never go back there and I dont recommend it to anyone.
Loved it ....our usual stop when in Watch Hill
Rude and racist. Never going again. I would highly suggest that no one come. I feel offended and uncomfortable.
Slow service...pricey breakfast
Fast and friendly.
Service great, not so clean if you want to stay eat the ice cream, the trash can are in front of the seating spot, smell not so good...If you want to eat its just fried food, not any good healthy option....,
Much more than a dessert shop.
Owner was very disrespectful and had a know it all attitude regarding my food allergies. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in how i was treated. I ordered an ice cream & my allergy is not to gluten.
Best RI clear chowder 😉
Awsome ice cream
I went into st.clair and I ordered my food the guy who took my order was very rude never told me the price of my order, didnt ask me if I was dining in, didnt put my change in my hand and gave me the strangest look I wouldnt have thought nothing of it but the white guy after me was treated totally opposite it was the most racist experience Ive encounter in a long time.
Good food
