I came to Flying Needles for the 2021 James River Yarn Crawl. The shop had beautiful yarn and trunk shows going on but what really made it special was the kindness and helpfulness of their staff. They put me at ease when I was feeling overwhelmed with all of the choices and helped me make some great choices. I will definitely be a repeat customer!

I am grateful to have this as my local yarn shop. Addressed my Covid concerns. Have classes that push me despite knitting for many years. Also I am impressed with Robins promise yarn. All the staff will help expertly with color pairings.

So many colors and different yarn. Hubby got some wonderfully smelling soap and I got two skeins of discounted yarn. Will definitely visit again whenever we are in town 😁

Stopped at this shop while vacationing around Virginia Beach and I’m so glad we did! Immediately upon entering you’re greeted by so much COLOR. There are several samples of popular patterns from hot designers knit up and displayed throughout the store and were helpful to see how the yarns would knit up. The owner was friendly and helpful and provided a quick overview of the store and the current trunk show going on. Great experience and I left with a pattern book and many skeins of yarn from the local dyer.

A delightful relaxing shop! The yarn selection is dizzying! The shop smells lightly of the lovely soaps for sale. The artwork on display and for sale comes from incredibly skilled artisans! A must-see for knitters and crocheters!

Just moved to the area and needed to find a LYS. What a gem The Flying Needles is! The staff is so friendly and helpful. They helped my son pick out the perfect yarn and pompom for a hat. They also helped my husband make his own yarn advent calendar for me. This shop is what yarn lovers look for when looking for local shops. So happy to have found this treasure!

SHOP ELSEWHERE!! I have been a customer for years. Last week my son and his lady went I. To purchase some yarn for me as a gift. They were the only customers at the time. The older lady who works there treated them as if their questions were annoying her. She made them feel so uncomfortable they bought one skein and left. How did they deal with this? By denying it. The older woman KNEW what she did and wouldn’t look me in the eye. The owner responded by and blocking comments on Facebook

Very nice shop with great choice of yarns. Lots of hand dyed for socks. Karen was a sweetheart and helped me with matching yarns for projects. I hope to return when I’m in Williamsburg area. Looking forward to Zoom knit night!

I am no longer local to Williamsburg but every time I come home to visit I have stopped in The Flying Needles and I am never disappointed. The staff is always helpful and the yarn selection is hits several different price points and various fiber content. The shop is cozy and welcoming and is a short drive from downtown Colonial Williamsburg. I had to make a quick stop to grab yarn for a last minute gift and even during a pandemic I was happy to see the atmosphere hadnt changed.

The Flying Needles is filled to the brim with yarny delights and nifty gadgets, project bags and looms and loops. SO many wonderful things for makers! I LOVE this shop!

While I have never actually been to The Flying Needles in person, I have interacted with Susan, the owner and many of her staff and customers through the weekly zoom sessions. I have also purchased her yarn/ products through her website Robins Promise Yarn. Online orders ship fast and efficiently. Susan has turned the uncertainty of the pandemic into a small bit of comfort, building community (near and far) and providing joy through her virtual KAL, yarn crawls, Zoom and Facebook live events. It is evident that Susan cares deeply about her customers, her craft and the products she sells.

As a “day 1 knitter” (again), Susan and the staff of flying needles were accommodating and helpful while I tried to visualize my first project. It is a welcoming place to shop, very good quality yarn right outside our backyard.

A lovely bright store. The displays are mainly against the wall making it much easier to see all the wonderful, colorful yarn. The ladies who were in the store were fun and friendly. They had knitting and crocheting tools, mugs, socks, yarn bowls, and bags. They invited me to knit night. A great store.

My friend and I stumbled across this beautiful shop, and I am so excited that we did! The ladies were incredibly kind and helpful. I did not feel embarrassed asking questions and because of their laid back and approachable personalities I learned a lot and feel empowered to start my new hat project. As a beginning knitter I was a bit overwhelmed at first, but The owner Susan was amazing at making me feel comfortable. After taking her beginners class which was so much fun, I felt much more confident. Susan helped me select a project that I could manage. I even had to go in twice because I needed help and she was so great to help me get back on track.You will always get a warm welcome, a huge smile and free advice. Her passion for knitting is truly infectious and now it’s my favorite place to visit. Everyone who enters her shop as a stranger leaves her shop as a friend.

I have received help with every problem that I asked about and taken classes to learn new techniques. I really like learning new fabric structures but need help with color selections. I was very disappointed to get home with my purchase and find out that the price on my yarn had been sharpied out and I was up charged 20% of the original price. I do not appreciate feeling like I was taken. Very disappointing

This place is an absolute pleasure and treasure for Williamsburg! The owner, Susan, is an absolute delight, witty, funny and charismatic in everything she does! I have found my happy place! I just started back knitting after 20 years and was completely overwhelmed. I signed up for a class and received excellent instruction. Since then I have taken a couple more classes and anxiously await the fall class schedule to learn more! I love Wednesday Knit Nights and have made new friends. The staff is super sweet and Susan, the owner, always keeps me laughing!

This yarn shop is a amazing. Awesome selection of sock yarn, I had to exercise my self control lol. The owner was beyond friendly. She made my daughters and I feel very special. We will definitely be returning for more sock yarn and hopefully some classes!

This was such a wonderful find! Im heartbroken they are not in my own town so I could go there all the time! We dropped in while we were in Williamsburg on vacation. Despite my best efforts, I just couldnt resist buying a skein of yarn from a VA yarn dyer in a colorway created just for the store. The yarn selection here is wonderful, the owner is helpful and friendly and there is an inviting space for sitting and knitting right up at the front of the store. Highly recommended!

Beautiful yarns including locally dyed. Staff was very helpful for a beginner.

The owner of the shop is suited to being behind the scenes. Her manner is very off putting and she is not willing to help solve a problem, especially if she suspects the yarn wasnt purchased at her shop.The other ladies that work there, especially those that used to work at Knitting Sisters, are very friendly and helpful.The selection of yarn is somewhat limited, but has gotten better as time has gone on. The price of classes is outrageous.

It is a lovely little shop, however, in the 4 times I have been there, i have overheard the owner being extremely ugly to a student knitter(I would have gotten up and left), and she has been rude to me as well on 3 of the 4 visits. A shame really, because it is a lovely shop, and she has beautiful things. My yarn shopping will go elsewhere.
